Suzuki VanVan vs Lifan Xpect

  • I have a couple more video's to upload regarding the Suzuki VanVan. But this is a comparison between it and the Lifan Xpect. Both are 200cc bikes and both are Dual Sports, though the styling is completely different. The Lifan was $1950 delivered, the Suzuki was roughly $5000 picked up from a dealer.

    Great review of the VanVan.
    I looked at a 2017 gray one for almost two years as it sat on a dealers showroom. I finally decided to buy one in late 2020. Then they were nearly impossible to find. While I was looking for one, I saw a camouflaged one for sale, but it was too far to drive. I found one the same color you have. I didn't really like the color until I actually saw it. After riding it I named it Little Darling because it is such a fun bike to ride. After seeing how well it climbed a rugged hill it became the Gold Goat.

    You have the same taste as me when it comes to motorcycle styling. I am looking for a used Van Van because I love the styling and am looking for a dual sport. Was considering a Yamaha tw200 but i don't like the 80's styling or the lack of fuel injection. So I was curious to ask if these two bikes perform the same off road or does one do better than the other? Also, did you put some fat tires on the KMP200. I'm seriously considering that bike too even if it's for just paved roads...love the styling and the price. Just hard to resist not buying one.

    • @gregslair4278
      @gregslair4278  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Sorry for the late reply (I never seen it). They both perform the same. The EFI bikes start easier, but that's about it. Nobody makes any DS tires for the KPM so I gave up searching, which is a bummer cause it would've been a better comparison to the Van Van.

    GREAT video! - Can you tell me, besides the look as you said in the video, why did you go for the Suzuki VanVan vs the Yamaha TW200?
    BTW, I just bought TWO Lifan KP 150 Mini-Cycles and I TOTALLY agree with you about quality. I did have a Bashan Brozz 250 that I liked BUT it did not have the quality, or warranty like the Lifan. Also, I already put Shinko Knobby tires on one of the Lifans, so far. 😊

    • @gregslair4278
      @gregslair4278  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi and Thank You. It was simply the looks. I know the TW200 is a fine bike, but don't care for the 80's kinda look. You'll love the Mini's. I put Duro's on one, still gotta do the other. I wish somebody made dual sport tires that fit the KPM. I like dirt roads and back roads much better than main roads. And that KP-Moto exhaust for the Mini sounds great. Not too loud (unless you take the baffle out). Now Lifan needs to make a clone of the new Honda Trail 125 and put the engine from the Mini in it.

      @@gregslair4278 - Hello Greg - Thanks for the reply. Lifan is coming out with the KPV 150 Adventure AUTOMATIC FUEL INJECTED the FIRST quarter of 2022 to compete with the Honda at a MUCH lower cost than the Honda. I spoke with a knowledgeable representative at Lifan about it.

      @@re3065 Yeah, I read about that. The problem I have is it looks too much like a scooter. I think it would need to kinda resemble the Trail 125. This one from Lifan doesn't even have a rear rack (neither do our Mini's, which sucks). The Trail 125 is a huge hit here, and I know there is a market for scooters (especially EU) but we need something to compete with the Honda.

      @@gregslair4278 I’m comparing the X-pect to the Hawk DLX in my line up. I know I’m not going to get an abundant amount of power out of either one, but I’d like to know that my choice could handle average back country off-road trails. Plus I’m over 200lbs, and factor in some gear. I never bought a bike for the purpose, so I’m trying to know where to start.

    • @gregslair4278
      @gregslair4278  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@leonardebron6032 IMO, the X-Pect is better than the Hawk DLX. Better build quality and just because the Hawk is 250cc, it isn't any faster. However, both could handle what your wanting just fine. You can always change gearing if so desired. The only downside to either is there (as far as I know) aren't any tuners available for the EFI. So squeaking a bit more HP out of a carb'd Hawk (carb, exhaust, gearing), might be a little a little easier.

      The X-Pect definitely ticks more than the KPM, the KP-Mini is pretty quiet. However, so I've read (and heard), they should tick to a degree. Just got back from FL where I was riding both the Mini and X-Pect and either the valves are too tight on the mini or too loose on the X-Pect. Next trip down I'll check the X-Pect first (easier to do). I think it's .03mm on the intake side and .06mm on the exhaust, but will have to double check. That's what kills me about the Japense bikes. Our American expectations for motorcycles are so insanely low. You can buy a CB500x for 7K before all fees and taxes, and that bike is coming with a dash straight out of the year 2000, abs is not standard, no gear indicator, tach is an afterthought and near impossible to read, seat is meh. Overseas they have bikes that are EFI, more fuel efficient, have all the bells and whistles and will cost 2.5K out the door is the worst price you could possibly find. We get all the reject bikes, for triple the price. Honda navi is $900 overseas. Here, it's 3K+. I'm just done with being screwed like that. Lifan all the way.
    P.S. Multiple time around the world adventure rider Ed March had his Honda C90 die on him mid trip. He replaced it with a lifan 150cc engine which is still going to this day, hundreds of thousands of miles later.
