Wild Swim, Wild Ride | The Dartmoor Double

- Lovely bit of British weather for today's Wild Swim Ride but such a good day nonetheless. Laura and I took the mountain bikes up Dartmoor for a wild lake swim then had a bonus river dip on the way back.
Please be careful, do your research and ensure you know what you're doing if you intend to either wild swim or ride on Dartmoor in the mist. Laura and I are experienced in doing this, both live locally and took back up maps, a First Aid kit, Emergency Blankets, tools and food. I'm a qualified Mountain Bike Leader and I'm Outdoor First Aid trained. Both of us have experience of cold water swimming. Please research 'cold water shock' and exercise caution.

That misty pool looked like a good candidate for finding "Excalibur" Last swim I took on a bike ride was head long swallow drive into the canal after a dog ran out lol..
That happened to me too, except it was a swan.

Trust Julia to spot a stream and instantly think of a nice dip - albeit icy! Many of us would go, ‘oooh a stream, that’s nice’ … But then we would never have known how pleasant an experience a spontaneous dip can bring. :))

I get it to in winter here in Canberra Australia.
Canberra winters are really cold -5°C in the mornings being common. .
Wild camping being illegal is understood but there's a few other youtube channels that I'm subscribed to that specialize in doing just that.

It didn’t. The scones looked rubbish when we went for a cuppa so I didn’t bother. They definitely came out of a packet

I missed you by a few days up there! Just come home from 5 days bikepacking around Dartmoor, passed by Red Lake last Sunday and it was absolutely scorchio!

Well done Ladies, as others have mentioned I expected to see the Lady of the Lake arise from the water with Excalibur. That mist was eerie today I cycled from Plymouth to Downderry and back along Whitesands Bay I could just see a few feet ahead. Your river swim looked lovely.

Nice to see some familiar haunts. I think I did that route once, without the wild swimming. I had a little help from the ebike though but the crap suspension was unbearable.
NGL, Half tempted to move down closer to Dartmoor. Cycled from Bristol couple dozen times but to have it on my door step is just dreaming.

Three people so far haven’t liked this little Dartmoor swim adventure. What dark world do they live in 🙄……….🤔!!! Like the speedboat heads racing around on the water 🙂
Always amazes me how warm the water is on Dartmoor. We dipped in at Foggintor near Merrivale and that was genuinely luke warm. Maybe its the dark peaty lakes on Dartmoor that absorb the solar rays?
Yes, we wondered if it was something to do with the peat!
