    Could you review the MegaBass Mag-Draft 6 inch swimbait? I've heard about them and I just want to get a trusted opinion...

    • @TheGolem105
      @TheGolem105 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I got mine last year and I’ve only caught 3 or 4 fish on it. When I first got it out of the package the tail was crooked and it ran weird in the water so I dipped it in boiling water which made it a little straighter but not by much. Nevertheless I went out a fished it and didn’t catch much with it. However, I’m pretty partial to glidebaits like the deps 250 because I’ve caught my biggest fish on those. such if I didn’t get a faulty lure it would’ve performed better. So yeah if you’ve fished with other full bodied soft swimbaits before and enjoyed them, I say go out and buy yourself a magdraft and see how you like it yourself. They’re not too expensive anyways so that’s a plus.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can check those out. I too have heard a lot about them but never used one. Thanks for the suggestion man!

    • @Michaelpruis
      @Michaelpruis 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mag drafts are great... the freestyle can be rigged however, the regular old mag draft with the magnetic harness needs to be retrieved at a slow but moderate pace to avoid it running on its side... once you have it down though, great lure. I'd be totally down to see debo throw one around

    Debo,my Buddy
    There is only a short window for casting those great looking glide baits from shore. You need to capitalize on using them before it is too late. Rain, muddy water, and windy days shorten the window even more. That is when using Spinnerbaits and thumping Chatterbaits shine. I like using big gold thumping Colorado Blades first in muddy water. That is one reason Chatterbaits out fish willow leaf spinnerbaits in certain conditions. One-ounce large single blade Colorado blades and black skirts shine in muddy water. The ones I like best thump so hard they shake the rod in your hand. This is why they work so well fishing at night; the heavy weight stops them from blowing out of the water. Chatterbaits took over because people didn’t use or understand how to use Colorado blade Spinnerbaits. What comes thru wood and weeds with fewer hang-ups than Chatterbaits do? Colorado blade Spinnerbaits that’s what. Inventing a better hollow body frog is like inventing a better pencil; it seems redundant. I once caught a big bass using a Troll Doll with purple hair on a size 5/0 EWG hook in heavy Lilly pads. I used worm’s pork frogs and spinnerbaits too. You just throw them on top of the Lilly pads and tweak them around until they fall under them and Wham-O I got bit! However, hollow body frogs are easy to use. You know what rod I used to do these feats of insanity. A Fenwick five foot six-inch fiberglass pistol grip handle rod and a round 5000 ABU-Garcia reel with no brakes. Now days you can’t possibly even think of doing such things. Don’t you just hate old guys who say stupid stuff? I can’t help it because it’s so much fun poking fun at young guys.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahah how are you, Gizmo? I agree, I'm interested to toss these big glides. I can't wait to get on some hot spinnerbait days! I know the Colorado is king in muddy water. I admittedly do need to pick more of those up. Hank Parker had me using the short pistol grip rods back in the day. I've still got a couple!

      @@DEBOSFishing You live in Iowa and Minnesota is the home of The Mighty Babe Winkelman and Al Linder. Sometime in the future you should make a pilgrimage trip to a fishing Camp in Minnesota at least once. Spend a week fishing maybe hire a guide one or two days and see what you might discover. Take a five-gallon bucket of Swimbaits and try to loose all of them. Most provide a boat and gas for the week. If that doesn’t sound like fun, you might need to seek medical help. Take Randizzle for backup, it doesn’t cost any more than one or two tackle unboxings. What you really need is a Big 50" Musky on the wall behind you while doing a lure review next year. You only live once! Think of it as business expense.

    The ice in my area (northern NY) is going fast. Bays are opening up on Lake Champlain and small lakes and ponds are just about ice free. Going fishing very soon and will try the following: blade bait, chatterbait, jerkbait, glidebait, lipless (red of course), and keitech swim bait. Going to catch my PB largie and smallie! Fish alone from the bank. Staying healthy. Now go wash your hands!

    I had the same problem with the Tokyo Rig. I tried back to back billet weights. Didn't help much with lead bullet weights. Have a bunch of new Tungsten weights to try. Hoping that those smaller sizes back to back will be better. I love the idea of the Tokyo Rig, just haven't quite got it dialed in yet. Stay safe! Thanks for the video!

    Hey Debo I always wonder what size bullet weight to throw on my Texas rigs. Most of my ponds are less than 10ft with not to much cover. Mainly throwing zoom ultravibe speed worms, baby brush hogs and other similar baits. What would you recommend for general use size bullet weights? Bully Wa 2 is a greet frog, walks really easy because of the keel it has, although that doesn’t make it as good in really thick cover because it wants to turn on its side and snag.
    Edit: also you should try the River2sea glide bait if you haven’t already, their smaller sizes are pretty inexpensive and great

    I really believe if you tie the Toyokoa rig correctly you won't lose your weights . Try tying to the wire leader instead of the lure , that will make your bullet weight pull small and through rocks and grass first . I think you will be pleasantly surprised

    I'm interested in seeing the hollow body poppers. I have never thrown a Tokyo rig but what if you just turn the bullet weight around with the cone going towards the line tie. Or is there a reason not. Dont know just throwing in my 2 cents.

    Debo on the Tokyo rig...use two lighter bullet style weights and get you some glass Carolina rig beads and put one or two beads between the two weights. Gives it a little different sound when the weights contact the beads. 👍🏻

    Debo,
    No real success with the Tokyo rig. I think it is too bulky, too much hardware. I run two tungsten bullet weights back to back. The cylinder weights should also be good. In fact I think they will hang up even less. Try the Jig (Jika) Rig it is awesome. All 3 of my largest bass were caught on it last year (almost every large bass, smallie and largie were because I used it so much). I had a very good fishing season using this rig. Put a Yamamoto Fat Ika on the Jig rig and hang on.

    • @DEBOSFishing
      @DEBOSFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! I had some success with the jika a while back and haven't used it since. Do you slowly reel it or hop it?

    • @telemarkmann6870
      @telemarkmann6870 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Debo,
      I swim it like a swim and swing jig. I shake it like a shaky head. I hop it like a traditional jig. I use it like every jig on the market. It is all a mater of what the fish want that day. It is a very versatile lure. My 3 largest bass 5+ to 6.25 lbs all were caught within @ 60 seconds of it hitting bottom. At the most after one or two quick hops. My state is non lead so the tungsten weight is legal here. I love tungsten for the feedback it gives and it’s small size.
      Not sure I answered your question. I start out with slow short hops for a full retreive. Then move to larger hops, then speed it up and will end up with short swims followed with hops.
