I live in Turkiye and everyone is against the increase of Nitro to 74.99 TL. Unfortunately, the depreciation of the Turkish Lira against the dollar also affected Discord Nitro fees. Normally $9.99 = 234.22 TL, while we pay 74.99 TL. But this is still too much for us. Because Nitro doesn't have much to offer people other than a cool badge and a nice profile. While Spotify Premium is 29.99 TL and Basic Netflix subscription is 63.99 TL, it is seriously ridiculous that Nitro goes up to 74.99 TL. Discord should review this bullshit.

Actually, this happened with the Steam store in Argentina. They had localized pricing for most of the games on the store, and this made the games accesible in price for the people living here. Once people from other countries started to use a VPN to change the region of their account to Argentina and exploit the low price games, Steam forced a change where the games now are the full price than the rest of the world. That made some games imposible to buy, costing a third of a minimum salary for a triple A game. So, at the end of the day, because of some people from other countries that decided to exploit this thing, we in Argentina have to deal with the consecuences of leaving a big pile of local money to buy a new release. So please, dont abuse localized pricing 🥲
As an Argentinian, let me correct you. You converted to official Argentinian Peso, which is not the one we Argentinians actually use, we use something called "Blue Dollar" which is actually 1 USD = 484$ Argentinian Pesos, so it actually would be 12 dollars in the first argentinian peso thing, the last one is actually 5,50 dollars a year. The reason why Nitro is so cheap in Türkiye, Argentina, Brazil, etc. is because the governments there have put the people in those countries through hyperinflation. If priced equivalent in USD, Nitro would probably cost as much as either a full meal for a day, or a big chunk of someone's monthly salary or more, depending how badly a country is fucked with hyperinflation. Anyone that lives in America, Canada, etc. dont know how bad it can get in those countries. I read sometimes a lot of people have a choice to either get one game or movie, or get groceries for the entire month because of how bad the economy is. By actively abusing this, you are putting Discord Nitro or any other digital product at risk of being unaffordable by the average person in countries affected with hyperinflation. Furthermore, a lot of sites, including Steam, now ban those that abuse localized pricing. It shouldnt be encouraged, and localized pricing is one thing that shouldnt be abused.

Hey, Turkish guy here. I don't know and I'm sorry if you get me wrong, but someone did this with Steam and well, Valve had it, "fixed" the prices. This is actually being damaging us, in every possible way. In instance, Steam removed the regional pricing (or made it much more higher to "fix" it.), and.. there we go. Nobody can buy a damn 10 dollars game anymore because of the prices. Be more polite, work like a human being and buy it like normal human being like NTTS said. The localised prices allow people like us in countries with failing economies to still be able to buy stuff, but since people abuse this, they just jack up the price again. I understand you want to get cheap nitro and cheap games on Steam and stuff but please don't do this
I'm sorry to say but the type of people doing this do not care if it affects someone from the other side of the world. I personally have never region changed and never taken advantage of localised pricing but it will get abused and everything with regional pricing will eventually lose it. I live in Turkey and Discord knows that most Turkish/Argentinian people cannot live in a good economical state due to the problems we have (but that is not the case here). I agree and laugh with almost all of his videos, but as an Argentinian and having present the changes in the steam market because of people using VPN and abusing the regional pricing, I feel just the same as you. I know that he said that he does not promote this activities, but giving them exposure, makes a dangerous move to all of us who live in this countries and can enjoy the perks of the service in a affordable price. I think that the damage has been already done, and the we can only hope that discord doesn't change the regional prices just like steam did

my problem is not paying for nitro, i would pay for nitro if it was like 3-4 dollars but 10 is way too much each month for a glorified animated profile and a higher upload limit that i will use once every 2 weeks. In the end not paying at all is the obvious choice, but if it was 3-4 dollars I would probably get it.

The theoretical method you described via the giftcard methods is not possible. Discord checks the CC against a BIN list to determine where the card is issued. The BIN exists of the first 4 to 6 numbers of a CC and is basically a unique number that tells a website what card it is (Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay, AMEX, etc.) and what bank issued the card. When the BIN doesn't match the country you want to use localized pricing for, Discord declines the transaction. Like NTTS said, get a job!
here in argentina we have these cheap nitro but, we also have a 75% taxes for all online video games related purchases, that is, if a game is worth 10,000 pesos it will be 17,500 pesos (also this applies to nitro)

Yea, I'm the kind of person who was like 'cheap discord nitro would be nice' but I'm not so desperate enough (or even active enough) to go through all the hoops to do this. But I definitely think that people blame 'the grey market' (if thats what its called) for regional price hikes are wrong. The simple fact is usually you can still get it cheaper in the regional price than you can get in USD. Yes, thats not very useful when its over half your salary or whatnot, but it goes to show that in the end discord is going to try to protect their bottom line than their customers, They could make it so that regional pricing is more controlled, maybe by making you have to validate in some other way that you are from where you are, but of course they won't do that because its either too much work or they're worried it'd scare away customers who don't want to jump through the hoops. And then there goes to show the truth, they're not really worried about the actual people using the regional price, only that they're subscribed, and if they think they can pull more out, they'll adjust the regional price accordingly. I guess what I'm saying is that the regional price is less there for your benefit (it does benefit you, of course, but thats the point of 'every' service. to provide some benefit.) and more there so that discord can actually sell, and considering nitro is a superfluous service its a little irritating how many people are being dramatic about its pricing going up. I get steam games becoming expensive in other currencies, but I don't think Nitro should be the hill people are dying on.

By using Android Phone in Türkiye, you can purchase a nitro boost for 93 Turkish Lira that is approximately 7 dollars less from the original price. But I wanted to say that to remind you. As a turkish nitro user that’s a student (I also have to mention that almost ALL of us are students, like 90%) we CANNOT afford to pay 75 turkish liras just because you want to get your nitro for cheaper. Argentinian payment methods charge a big tax for purchases outside Argentina. That means the actual cost of a year of nitro using an argentinian payment method would be closer to 50 dollars, than to 25.
in philippines they dropped it from 500+ pesos (~$9.99) down to 269 pesos (~$5) which is a good breathing space for me for being a nitro user for over 2 years iirc
A dollar in Argentine Pesos isn't actually like 200 and something, the "blue" or unofficial one is $490 pesos and the real one is between $200 pesos, but adding the taxes it ends costing almost the same as blue (official dollar is harder to get too)

As an Argentinian myself, I do not endorse buying Discord nitro like this. Price localization makes Discord nitro, steam games n other stuff affordable for countries that are going through economic struggles. If you really want nitro that badly, but it normally, if you don't have enough money, just don't buy it at all. I don't endorse this not just because of the risk that price localization may be heavily nerfed or straight up removed, but also because it can be unethical to some extent, since it can be seen as abusing another country's economic struggles for your own benefit. Anyone who abuses this is just a bad person, with zero exceptions. You're the type of person that doesn't return their shopping cart and just leaves it in the parking lot. Discord doesn't have to offer regional pricing, but they do so that people in countries with a bad economy can actually use their services. If you abuse this system, discord cannot sustain regional prices and has to increase them, effectively making their service way too expensive for anyone in that country to buy. Have you ever heard of "tragedy of the commons"? Well this is essentially a variation of the same concept. So thanks for taking a single good thing a company is doing and making them regret it.
I don't recommend doing this - it'd be *trivially* easy for Discord to ban people who do things like this, where they purchase Nitro from Turkey and then only ever access Discord from the US. Also, it could technically be considered fraud.

Hey, Turkish guy here. I don't know and I'm sorry if you get me wrong, but someone did this with Steam and well, Valve had it, "fixed" the prices. This is actually being damaging us, in every possible way. In instance, Steam removed the regional pricing (or made it much more higher to "fix" it.), and.. there we go. Nobody can buy a damn 10 dollars game anymore because of the prices. Be more polite, work like a human being and buy it like normal human being like NTTS said. Don't F around with "illegal" things like stolen CCs.

The localised prices allow people like us in countries with failing economies to still be able to buy stuff, but since people abuse this, they just jack up the price again. I live in Turkey and Discord knows that most Turkish/Argentinian people cannot live in a good economical state due to the problems we have (but that is not the case here). I agree and laugh with almost all of his videos, but as an Argentinian and having present the changes in the steam market because of people using VPN and abusing the regional pricing, I feel just the same as you. I know that he said that he does not promote this activities, but giving them exposure, makes a dangerous move to all of us who live in this countries and can enjoy the perks of the service in a affordable price. I think that the damage has been already done, and the we can only hope that discord doesn't change the regional prices just like steam did

my problem is not paying for nitro, i would pay for nitro if it was like 3-4 dollars but 10 is way too much each month for a glorified animated profile and a higher upload limit that i will use once every 2 weeks. In the end not paying at all is the obvious choice, but if it was 3-4 dollars I would probably get it.

The theoretical method you described via the giftcard methods is not possible. Discord checks the CC against a BIN list to determine where the card is issued. The BIN exists of the first 4 to 6 numbers of a CC and is basically a unique number that tells a website what card it is (Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay, AMEX, etc.) and what bank issued the card. When the BIN doesn't match the country you want to use localized pricing for, Discord declines the transaction. Like NTTS said, get a job!

I am from a country where our local prices are abused to hell, to the point where we can’t afford anything. But also I feel like people are little overreacting. There is multiple reasons everything is getting expensive (even if abuse is a big part for online transactions). But still, if you “need” to abuse local pricing, shame on you. Yea, I'm the kind of person who was like 'cheap discord nitro would be nice' but I'm not so desperate enough (or even active enough) to go through all the hoops to do this. But I definitely think that people blame 'the grey market' (if thats what its called) for regional price hikes are wrong. The simple fact is usually you can still get it cheaper in the regional price than you can get in USD. Yes, thats not very useful when its over half your salary or whatnot, but it goes to show that in the end discord is going to try to protect their bottom line than their customers, They could make it so that regional pricing is more controlled, maybe by making you have to validate in some other way that you are from where you are, but of course they won't do that because its either too much work or they're worried it'd scare away customers who don't want to jump through the hoops.
And then there goes to show the truth, they're not really worried about the actual people using the regional price, only that they're subscribed, and if they think they can pull more out, they'll adjust the regional price accordingly.
I guess what I'm saying is that the regional price is less there for your benefit (it does benefit you, of course, but thats the point of 'every' service. to provide some benefit.) and more there so that discord can actually sell, and considering nitro is a superfluous service its a little irritating how many people are being dramatic about its pricing going up. I get steam games becoming expensive in other currencies, but I don't think Nitro should be the hill people are dying on.

But so long as VPNs exist and corporations aren't willing to put in place countermeasures people 'are' going to abuse it, no matter how many of us don't do it in good will. And I'd avoid say 'you americans'. I can clearly tell its a running theme that other countries blame america for their problems but simply put they aren't the root cause for it all. And theres the simple fact that if someone has a relatively easy way to get something cheaper that improves their life, they're gonna do it, its basically the entire way regional pricing works after all. I'd ask who are you to deny human nature like how you ask the americans who are they to exploit systems to save money, as in the end they're both motivated by selfish gains that neither party actually control in any significant amount.

As a turkish nitro user that’s a student (I also have to mention that almost ALL of us are students, like 90%) we CANNOT afford to pay 75 turkish liras just because you want to get your nitro for cheaper. You basically robbed us right from our rights to get nitro. You are straight up using the fact that our country’s economy isn’t being managed properly (which I cannot say more on, or else I might get the police on my front door tomorrow) to get your nitro, and rob it from us, who actually need that price as even Spotify premium is 30 turkish liras at the moment. (Price examples from stuff I use: TH-cam premium is 30 turkish liras, memberships are mostly 20-30 liras, and I have a markiplier one for 25 at the moment.) It’s not ethical, even though it doesn’t seem like a big deal.

As an Argentinian myself, I do not endorse buying Discord nitro like this. Price localization makes Discord nitro, steam games n other stuff affordable for countries that are going through economic struggles. If you really want nitro that badly, but it normally, if you don't have enough money, just don't buy it at all. I don't endorse this not just because of the risk that price localization may be heavily nerfed or straight up removed, but also because it can be unethical to some extent, since it can be seen as abusing another country's economic struggles for your own benefit. Anyone who abuses this is just a bad person, with zero exceptions. You're the type of person that doesn't return their shopping cart and just leaves it in the parking lot. Discord doesn't have to offer regional pricing, but they do so that people in countries with a bad economy can actually use their services. If you abuse this system, discord cannot sustain regional prices and has to increase them, effectively making their service way too expensive for anyone in that country to buy.
Have you ever heard of "tragedy of the commons"? Well this is essentially a variation of the same concept. So thanks for taking a single good thing a company is doing and making them regret it.

In EU you can choose to pay in € or $, I'm paying my Nitro in $ because it's a little bit cheaper than in € ($2.95 - 2.99€ = $3.27)
I don't recommend doing this - it'd be *trivially* easy for Discord to ban people who do things like this, where they purchase Nitro from Turkey and then only ever access Discord from the US. Also, it could technically be considered fraud.
