People look at this movie today and think it flopped, but it was released right in the middle of covid and it was by FAR the biggest movie that year, people went out to watch even during the worst of it, and it was absolutely a success for its time, but sadly, it still means not enough people value it for what it is, a really solid MCU movie.
I'm one of those people who went to see it in the theater. I went to the first showing on a weekday and was the only person in there. So, I had my own personal movie. I kept thinking, if I had to go to the bathroom, could I ask them to pause it for me? LOL!!!
So in the comics The Mandarin - an Iron Man villain - wore ten rings one on each finger. Each ring bestowed a power: Ice Blast, Mind Control, Electrical Blast, Flame Blast, Laser Blast, Darkness Blast, Disintegration Blast, Vortex Air Blast, Sonic Blast, Matter Rearranger. The Mandarin found these rings in The Valley of Spirits in China inside of the wreck of an advanced race's spaceship known as the Makluans who appear to us as dragons. 😮 Shuriken typically are sharp pointy throwing stars. 😅
Zheng Shang-Chi, also recognized as the Master of Kung Fu and Brother Hand, is a remarkable superhero in Marvel Comics. The talented writer Steve Englehart and artist Jim Starlin brought this iconic character to life. Shang-Chi first appeared in Special Marvel Edition #15 in December 1973, during the captivating Bronze Age of Comic Books. He continued to captivate readers with his solo title until 1983.
15:37 Wong was fighting the Abomination... the main villain aka monster from the incredible hulk. There is a difference between eternal life and immortality. Immortality means you just can't die whereas eternal life means that you won't die naturally though aging or whatever but you can still be killed.
Absolutely feel you on the 12/10. This is no doubt in my top five marvel. The soundtrack, the visuals, the choreography. Oh and those big lions are Foo Dogs...good stuff guys
So don't get it twisted...this was not a romance story. Marvel wanted to make a really different movie here, and that included having no love interest for the hero. They are legit BFFs
Fun facts: 1) The OST for this movie was made by 88Rising, a predominantly Asian record label that famous artists such as Joji and Rich Brian are signed to. 2) The creatures in the village are all modeled after Chinese legends. 3) The 10 rings in the comics (the weapon) were originally rings that each gave specific enhancements such as intelligence, speed, ect. But the director of the movie thought they would be too similar to the infinity stones and Thanos' gauntlet that he changed them to the rings we see in the movie. They are modeled after martial art training rings. 4) When Katy and Shang-Chi was walking past the fighting boxes, you can see there is a Black Widow fighting as well as the regeneration people from Iron Man 3 (I forgot what they are called).
This movie was specially made for 3D viewing and I saw it in the theater when it first came out in 3D and it was mind blowing. I only ever saw it once in 3D but it forever changed the perspective in which I see this movie. 1:03 This part when he unleashed the rings, the closest ring looked so close like that you could reach out and grab it. 46:28 This part looked like the DiD came so close to me then Great Protector took it away really far away up the cliff. The scale of depth of the shots in this movie was so cool and crazy. I don't even care that much for watching movies in 3D but this one made really good use of it. If anyone reading this ever somehow get the chance to see this movie in 3D you should do it.
A highly underrated MCU movie in my opinion (Probably due to it being released during Covid.) But, this is still one of my favorites! The storytelling, back story & choreography during the fight scenes were great! Can’t wait for the 2nd!
Underrated by whom? It has a 91 critic score and a 98 audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It made $400 million at the box office. For comparison, Iron Man has a 94 critic score and a 91 audience score. It made $585 million at the box office.
@@havok6280 Underrated in the sense that it should've gotten more recognition and should have made even MORE at the box office but due to it being released during covid there were many who didn't get to see it in theatres and unfortunately skipped out on it. I get what you're trying to convey, since people tend to use "underrated" for something that is "under appreciated" or "overlooked"... but it definitely was not "underrrated" since those that saw it rated it highly.

Yep, he's a mostly self-taught martial artist as well. Him and his friends' stunt/choreo group are known as Martial Club and their aim is to revive and bring the old school Hong Kong style martial arts action into the modern day.
Destin Daniel Cretton drew inspiration from various sources in the martial arts and kung-fu genres and anime and video games when directing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Some of his influences include Jackie Chan's filmography, the Ip Man series, Enter the Dragon (1973), Tai Chi Master (1993), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), Kung Fu Hustle (2004), Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Street Fighter, and Tekken.
The mythical creatures from "Shang-Chi" are: Shishi - the Imperial Guard Lions or Foo Dogs Hundun - Morris Huli Jing - Nine tailed fox Qilin - as Trevor called it, "the weird looking horse". Fenghuang - an immortal bird There are four types of dragons in Chinese mythology. I believe that the ones we see in "Shang-Chi" are a combination of more than one of the varieties. They are Tianlong, or celestial dragon, guards the celestial homes of the gods Fuzanglong, which guards hidden treasure Dilong, or Earth Dragon, controls the waterways Shenlong, or Spiritual Dragon, controls rain and winds These are all Chinese mythical creatures. Pokemon, however, is Japanese in origin. But since China and Japan are so geographically close and have a lot of shared history, it is understandable that some of these creatures have found their way into Japanese mythology as well. By the way, throwing stars are Shuriken (pronounced shoo-ree-ken) is Japanese in origin, primarily used by samurai and ninjas.
The qilin is sometimes spelled "kirin" - there's a Japanese beer named Kirin, with a picture of one on the label. It was included among the monsters of Dungeons & Dragons since 1st edition. And it's also featured in the third movie of the Fantastic Beasts series, where they pronounce it like "chillin'". There is no one correct pronunciation, because of the different Chinese languages and dialects, and also Japanese.
@@PhilBagels Qilin 麒麟 ("chillin") is the standard Mandarin pronounciation 😊 Kirin きりん (this is written in Hiragana; the Kanji writing is the same as the Chinese one) is the Japanese pronounciation. To add on, since Mr. October mentioned Dragonball Z, the dragon in that series' name is Shenron. The Japanese equivalent of Shen Long. Also, throwing star are shuriken but the more dagger like weapon, also sometimes thrown, are called kunai (used heavily in Naruto, for example).

Regarding night life, etc., cities in Asia tend to be busy all night. They have night markets, so many street food vendors, etc. Granted, I've only been to Taiwan (principally Taipei), Karaoke, Pachinko parlors (a kind of gambling game similar to, but essentially completely different from Pinball), etc.
The beautiful thing about East Asian mythologies is that there are many similarities - the nine-tailed fox is a 九尾狐 (Jiu Wei Hu) in Chinese mythology, and 구미호 (Gumiho) in Korean folklore ☺
Wait, she thought Katie was his sister. She didn’t think it was weird when the grandma asked when are they going to get married or did that accidentally blow past?
I don’t know how many know this? But Michele Yeoh also plays a gate guardian in The Mummy III movie against evil and gives up her & her daughers immortality to summon the innnocent souls buried within the Great Wall in order to create an army of undead to fight dragon emperor army.
Kunai knife actually and shuriken.... The Kunai knife was originally a multi purpose knife/ tool. Shuriken meaning is hidden blade ... They can be any shape
Y’all should watch Crouching tiger hidden dragon if you like the Chinese culture and mythological cgi but in a more realistic serious movie. Such an incredible movie. Great Reaction
Fun Facts: Shang-Chi represents Peace and Harmony. Xu Wenwu (Father) represents Chaos and Destruction. They are interconnected. They both symbolize the Yin & Yang. When Shang-Chi has the Ten-Rings, the rings float and harmonize around him in contrasts to his Father's where he abuses them and leashes them on his arms. One is bright in colors while the other is darker. There's a bunch of different martial art style used in this film from Shaolin to Wing Chun. But the martial art style his Mother and Aunt uses is Tai-chi. They don't use force but are one with it, they are one with nature, they redirect everything. They do not use the closed hand. Now about the Pokémon that we keep seeing are actual creatures from East Asian mythology that are also based on it also. We see it everywhere in media. These creatures represent our gang in this film. The deer like dragon-faced creature that stares at Shang-Chi when they arrive in Ta Lo is called a "Qilin". It's a mythical East Asian creature told in many folklores for millenniums. They are a harbinger of good luck and protection. It's supposed to be the most genuine purest form of all things consolidated on Earth and only rarely shows up when they believe someone of purity is present. It represents Shang-Chi. He is the peace and harmony. It's his spiritual guide animal. The fiery bird we see flying when the gang arrives in Ta Lo is called "Fenghuang", it's a Phoenix. It represents loyalty and compassion just like Katy. These phoenix's are awesome, they always make a comeback. She had Shaun's back the entire film. In a deleted scene they are shown helping to clear a path against the Souleaters to allow Katy to send an arrow hitting "The Dweller" in the neck. Saving the "Great Protector" of Ta Lo. They white nine-tailed fox, another East Asian mythological creature called, "Jiu Wei Hu", it represents strength and intelligence. It represents Xu Xialing's (Sister) spiritual guide animal. Hence why she wears the white outfit and why she's such a foxy badass that does everything by herself. Morris is called, "Dijiang". He represents Trevor. It's a chaotic faceless being that is at times playful but always in a state of confusion just like Trevor is all the time. Having no idea what is going on but going with the flow of everything. The Entei looking one is also a creature called "Shishi", a guardian lion like creature with fangs. It represents playfulness, loyalty, and protects each other and their loved ones. It can be argued that it can be Razorfist's spiritual guide animal when he decided to help instead of hurting the people of Ta Lo. The one protecting Ta Lo is called the, "Great Protector" otherwise known as "Shenlong" a mythological divine dragon. A lot of Asian cultures classify dragons as "Gods" and see dragons as most the powerful and benevolent creatures. They can traverse the universe, give guidance from beyond the mortal realm or become a force to be reckon with. She represents Shang-Chi's Mother and their aunt. It is kindness and love. Last but not least is the "The Dweller", a demon locked away in the Dark Gate. Not sure what you would call it in specifically in Cantonese or Mandarin. But this creature represents Xu Wenwu and his state of mind. It is chaotic and shutoff away from everything. It is the embodiment of chaos and destruction. It is the illness of the mind. A plaguing cancer of the human heart that uses your greatest strength and twists it against you. It eats at your soul and everyone else around you.
You guys should have watched the 2008 Hulk movie first. That creature in the arena with Wong was an important character, and will be again in a future series too.
I believe i read somewhere the main actor was a dragon ball z fan and if im not mistaken he uses one of gokus fighting poses! And they referenced dbz at the end! Loved that addition!
You mentioned Avatar The Last Air Bender; For some reason I thought you guys had already watched the show. I hope it makes your list of shows to watch. I think you’ll have a lot of people backing that up 😁👍🏼
I still don't under why people think this movie is underrated. When it came out it was all the rage. Everybody, or mostly everybody, was singing its praises. There are a handful of people who didn't like it, or at least didn't love it (I am one, I think there's some damaging elements in the plot that cascade throughout the entire film affecting both the characters and story), but that doesn't feel like it's enough to make to film underrated. It just feels like people being upset that some people don't have the same opinion as they do and insisting the movie is misunderstood because of that, despite the majority of people liking the movie.
He was a baby ? Back in the day 12 year old kings used to fight wars and win . When he was send to kill the person who killed his mother , he didn't do it and ran away like a kitty .
I don’t know the exact pronunciation of it but those lion things that look like that Pokémon are quill on….I only know this because in back in my world of Warcraft days hunters could tame them as pets.the Pokémon design was most likely based on them

The knife things that they threw were Kunai, like a dagger, but there are also star shaped ones called shuriken
Back with the marvel reactions I love it . Another great reaction shang-chi is a very solid film
Regarding night life, etc., cities in Asia tend to be busy all night. They have night markets, so many street food vendors, etc. Granted, I've only been to Taiwan (principally Taipei), Karaoke, Pachinko parlors (a kind of gambling game similar to, but essentially completely different from Pinball), etc.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pachinko
The 9 tailed fox is called a Kitsune (Kit-soon-eh), it is a mythological creature from Japanese legend.
There was a couple of Pokemon in there. Moltres was the fiery bird, Ninetales was the fox, Cobalion was rhetorical “weird horse.”
I don’t know how many know this? But Michele Yeoh also plays a gate guardian in The Mummy III movie against evil and gives up her & her daughers immortality to summon the innnocent souls buried within the Great Wall in order to create an army of undead to fight dragon emperor army.
Those "knives" were kunais.
Shuriken are ninja stars.
21:11 Kuni knives. Shurekens are throwing stars
Kunai knife actually and shuriken.... The Kunai knife was originally a multi purpose knife/ tool. Shuriken meaning is hidden blade ... They can be any shape
Shang-chi is known to be the best hand-to-hand fighter in marvel’s history in the comics
The Iron Fist???
@@petestaley7903 they are very debatable but most times he is close second
better than the Immortal Iron Fist? IDK, maybe the comparison is not necessary.
@@oskarobit as I said in the other comment they are debatable but most times iron fist comes out as a close second
Gonna start a fight in the comments. Lol.
Iron Fish and DD are very close.
I just noticed the Warriors poster on Shangchi wall. Good movie.
Oh! The small throwing knives they were fighting with are called Kunai.
Yup, shuriken are Japanese throwing stars - think ninja's
The knives are called Kunai
“Katy” is in Jumanji 2 and Crazy Rich Asians
I laughed each time he said "it looks like" any other Chinese inspired story.
8:30 Let the battle begin! 🙏🏽💪
Y’all should watch Crouching tiger hidden dragon if you like the Chinese culture and mythological cgi but in a more realistic serious movie. Such an incredible movie. Great Reaction
commenting before i watch - this is gonna be fun!! 🤩
Fun Facts:
Shang-Chi represents Peace and Harmony.
This movie was amazing. I loved everything about it. I can't wait for Marvel to expand this part of the universe.
Too bad Covid hurt this film's moment. I think it's fantastic.
1 MINUTE GANG 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
3 minute gang 😭
In. This. Movie. I. Love. His. Sister. Because. She. Can. Take. Care. Of. Herself. Pretty. Well
One of my favs MCU movies!! Let's Gooo
You guys should have watched the 2008 Hulk movie first. That creature in the arena with Wong was an important character, and will be again in a future series too.
Damn near punched the click. Let's go!
i watched this movie with my brother couple years ago, this movie was insane
Shuriken are like throwing stars and the knives are called kunai
Thanks to Mrs. & Mr. October! ⭕⭕⭕⭕⭕ ⭕⭕⭕⭕⭕
You guys should watch Warrior, the best tv show ever with amazing fight scenes and asian actors
Such an underrated Marvel movie!
Yea this movie was dope to watch in the theaters 🎭
I believe i read somewhere the main actor was a dragon ball z fan and if im not mistaken he uses one of gokus fighting poses! And they referenced dbz at the end! Loved that addition!
That was definitely one of the good ones. "The Great Protector" is awesome, but Daeners's dragon is way more badass. Imagine that on the MCU...^^
blade lookin things are Kunai
shuriken are ninja stars
You mentioned Avatar The Last Air Bender; For some reason I thought you guys had already watched the show.
I hope it makes your list of shows to watch. I think you’ll have a lot of people backing that up 😁👍🏼
"huhuhu " "hahahah " congratulations
Fun fact. My brothers a professional ultimate player.
that’s actually really cool!’
34:55 Love Avatar: The Last Airbender! 🙏🏽💪
He was a baby ? Back in the day 12 year old kings used to fight wars and win .
When he was send to kill the person who killed his mother , he didn't do it and ran away like a kitty .
MMA references always appreciated👌
I believe the daggers are called Kunai's and the throwing stars are Shurikens.
I don’t know the exact pronunciation of it but those lion things that look like that Pokémon are quill on….I only know this because in back in my world of Warcraft days hunters could tame them as pets.the Pokémon design was most likely based on them
Yu-Gi-Oh in that pokèmon movie, wires crossed a bit lol.
Think you meant 'Kunai' when referring to those knives/daggers, 'Shuriken' are throwing stars.
Fellow Naruto watcher?
@TheOctobersReact I love your reactions! You two are the cutest couple! I have a couple shows i would love to see you react to. One is "The Vampire Diaries" and the other is "Smallville". TVD is my favorite vampire show. It is a super natural teen drama, but it keeps getting better.. the more you get into it.. And Smallville it is a story about a boy, and his life growing up. I can't really tell you more, because i don't want to spoil anything. But it is a really good show, and i think you guys would get into it.. I love this show! 😊 Have a wonderful day/night or in between!
DO NOT SKIP “WHAT IF….!”
Though it is animated, it is VERY MUCH part of the MCU & will play into upcoming movies/shows.
Yep, What If,is good
Skip The Eternals.
@@jgorms4054 dont skip anything

PLEASE React to these Action & Comedies or Both: Starring Chris Evans Cellular The Ringer, Date Night, Big Stan, Netflix Gabriel Iglesias: Stadium Fluffy, Netflix Jo Koy: Don't Make Him Angry, and Fire Up and The Family
There are a couple of Disney Plus shows that I might rank higher than this, but this is definitely my second favorite movie in phase 4 ( I enjoyed Spider-Man No Way Home just a little bit more). I agree that this one is very underrated
The little blades are called kunai
