We ALL NEW you weren't going to fix it the easy way even if you knew some of those tricks would work. your Dave of Classic Car Cave, 100% Right ! and I need my sleep.
Thanks for your vote of confidence. We could just weld it across the join but it will annoy the hell out of me if we don't fit it correctly I‘m afraid. Cheers Dave
Same here , I am seventy and after a couple of hours on my mini , I am buggered ,but it gets me out of the household jobs . Like hoovering etc 😂😂😂😂👍👍👍👍👍
Clive, I know where your coming from on the household chores front 😉 I really enjoy doing Jobs around the garage but some days it‘s hard to push yourself to get started even more so on a cold day in the winter. That really takes some serious mojo and drive to get yourself out of a nice arm house and comfy chair 🤔Cheers Dave
We all make mistakes said the Dalek as it climbed off a dustbin, or was it the octopus and the bagpipes 😊 Good luck sorting it out. We know your work ethic will make it right.
Dave shit happens. I painted a hardtop for a series 3 E which turned out spectacular, but working on the boot lid for my series 3 I burned through the clear and had to redo again. As you say its got to be done right. I'm expecting delivery of my Jaguar 5 speed today so I'm excited. it sucks getting old I'm 66 and feeling polishing out that hardtop. Cheers and take care of that back John
Knew it / read up on it b4 . History repeating it's self ...Bmc days on mk l As You said .. , I worked with a Parts men . He said it while He was Working for Stuart and Arden ..
Marine sealant adhesive like 3M 520 or Sikaflex is incredibly strong, and flexible once cured. Or maybe more modern 2 pack stuff would work even better. Bare metal and careful trowelling of the goop. Welding or brazing ? Oof. Keep your options open and good luck. No really good answers here.@ClassicCarCave
@ClassicCarCave In that case, there is only one way forward. Obtain replacement panel(s),rip the offending bits out, repair the bent bits, reweld as per specification, and carry on with the next steps. Been there done that myself. Usually talk myself into an acceptable Plan B. But not always. Either it is right or it isn't. Spend the time and get it just so. All the best.
Paul. If we are careful we should be able to salvage this panel and then refit it. I have had a few friends that suggested just weld & seam seal 🤔Cheers Dave
Shit happens Dave ! I 'd cut the along the joint , then drill out the welds and "simply " fit inside to out or make a duplicate pattern . Good luck my friend 😊
@@ClassicCarCave MK3 minis had the remote change gear box not rod change. So they had ah round tunnel port in front like mk1 but without the starter bug.
Silly Mistake, if you don't do shit you can't make mistakes. Watta Mistaka to Maka (who said that, British comedy series). I haven't finished the video yet, but SEAM SEALER and Shutz, and Forgetaboutit.
Hi Dave we all make mistakes, I have made a few over the years that took more time to rectify than do in the first place. Keep up the good work.
Mark, Very true if you haven't made a mistake your not doing anything 🤔 Thanks. Cheers Dave
Dave.. what a find..
I have the same F4ck up on my mini shell.. who would know...
New toeboard will be the order of the day..
Top man you are.
We will unpick the weeds and fit it correctly otherwise it will drive me mad. Cheers Dave

No worries Dave, I fully understand.
Paul, I just hope the panel doesn't get damaged so we will have to be thoughtful about how we remove it. Cheers Dave

It could be seam welded and corked but it will annoy the hell out of me knowing I‘s wrong so I guess there is only one option. Cheers Dave
Just seem weld it!
Steve, We could do just that but I will know it‘s not correct and every time I see the shell it will be the first thing my eyes go to. Cheers Dave
Wow, what a shame!!
It was a mistake and it needs to be fixed. we just need to be careful so we don't damage the panel. Cheers Dave

John, I suppose it‘s going to happen at some point when everything seems to be going too well 🤔 Reality strikes back 😉 Cheers Dave
Hi Dave, it's a good fit as is. Why not tig weld or neatly MIG weld it to stop water ingress. Once the body sealer is on you won't even see it.
Paul, I agree we could easily do that but it will be on my mind and just bug the shit out of mr every time I look at the shell. Cheers Dave
You'll have to sort it, mate. It will be playing on your mind for the rest of your days if you don't.
100% agree as I have said to many of the comments it will be the first thing I see each time I look at the shell. Cheers Dave

It‘s always the way when the rebuild is going along nicely and you think you have it in the bag 😮Bang reality smacks you in the face 😉 Cheers Dave
Braze or solder the lap joints to avoid the possibility of water entrance? Looks very good to take apart.
I have spoken to a few friends that are Mini guys and there basically saying the same thing 🤔 Cheers Dave

Paul, The problem is it will need to be corrected as it will bug the shit out of me till it is fitted the right way. Cheers Dave

John, Still in two minds about how we rectify this mistake and taking it out and starting again seems to be the best option. Cheers Dave
How much work will that be once you get going on it?
I think we can fix it in one day I just don‘t want to damage the panel as it was around 200 bucks. Cheers Dave
The floor is also wrong. It is not ah MK3 floor.
John, I asked M Machine for a Mk3 complete floor 🤔 What are the panel differences from a MK3 to 4 floor. Cheers Dave
@@ClassicCarCave MK3 minis had the remote change gear box not rod change. So they had ah round tunnel port in front like mk1 but without the starter bug.
@@johncoopermorris The Mk3 did have the rod change as this was in the shell and the new one is a Mk3 floor 🤔 The toe board is wrong 😉 Cheers Dave
Oh man, that's a headache to sort out
Keith, I think i need to bite the bullet and take it back out and refit the panel correctly. Cheers Dave
Hi Dave that's a bugger, but that one mistake may help hundreds of other mini rebuilders from making the same mistake.
Brendan, I wanted to show how easy it is to make a mistake when you convince yourself the panel is fitted the right way. Cheers Dave

Oh dear that's not the best. still at least it's on a rotisserie. best of luck sorting it.
It does make the shell much easier to work on and fit the panel in the correct way. Cheers Dave
Dave, you have back trouble? have you heard of a "Ring Dinger" please don't look it up before you reply!
Paul, I had to two prolapses in my vertebrae just before i retired from the oil patch when i was working in Baku. Cheers Dave
