  • New Zealand's South Island is a pretty incredible place, offering some of the best walking and tramping tracks in the country and the Hooker Valley track is right up the top of that list.
    The Hooker Valley track is located in the Aoraki Mt Cook National Park is often regarded as the best short walk in New Zealand. The track will take you across 3 swing bridges that cross stunning glacial rivers before arriving at the famous Hooker Lake, a glacial lake complete with icebergs!
    The walk is 10km (6.2 miles) which will take you around 3 hours to complete. It's flat and easygoing with an elevation change of about 100m.

    There is another camping ground 5 mins down the road at Glentanner. Still with views of mt cook, and great facilities plus walks, biking,fishing right at the Mt Cook end of lake Pukaki. Usually plenty of spots including powered sites for caravans etc.

    It's certainly a wonderful short walk and I'm glad you got sunny weather. Nice 'Harvey cam' up the steps too. Well done Harvey.

      Cheers! Appreciate that 😊 yeh I think it’s due to the numbers but the track was really good, toilets were clean too. There was a DOC warden wandering around too chatting to people which was great

    Next best is the Ruakuri walk at Waitomo. Through some cool caves and beautiful native bush! We did the Hooker lake walk in October during spring and were mesmerised by all the avalanches in the valleys.

    Awesome location 👍😀 We spend nearly a week there every year as part of our annual South Island Road Trip using the DoC Pass 👍 The icebergs at the Tasman Glacier are grander than Hooker one - Well worth the drive and walk to that one 👍
    Did you get to see the family of Kea come down at White Horse and the Mt. Cook Lily along the walk ❓🤔 I always miss the Mt. Cook Lily due to wrong time of the year for us 🤦🏻

    • @AdventuresWithRosy
      @AdventuresWithRosy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We didn’t see any Kea unfortunately! Have only seen them when we went to Milford. Sounds like we made a mistake not visiting Tasman Glacier, a few people have said how good it it is… will have to go back 😊

    Oh nice, I walked to the first bridge and got half way across before I turned back (I just couldn’t get my head to cross another swing bridge in the South Island (had done about 6) even though they were great bridges to cross I just couldn’t
    Fingers crossed next time we are in the South Island I will get across !
