My good sir, after watching 10 DIY videos on stringing a b&d grasshog, you are the ONLY person to show a clear view of what you are doing GOD BLESS YOU. * LIKED AND SUBBED*
You have CLEARLY explained in a few minutes what the manufacturer’s diagram and instructions, as well as various TH-cam videos could not. A thousand thank you’s could never be enough.😇👏🏻
Thank you. Now I know where I went wrong. And thanks for respecting your viewers' time and keeping this video short, sweet, and to-the-point. Somebody else has a *14-minute* video on the same topic, which is ridiculous.
I've been putting the string way different and have always had trouble. I decided to check out the right way to do it because I recently got 2 houses paying me to cut their lawn and I think this will help save me some time, thanks!
Hi! 😃 It appears I've been refilling my spool correctly; but thanks so VERY MUCH for making this tutorial. At least this way I know that this isn't the issue with my Trimmer Trauma I am alwayz experiencing. 😄🤷🏼♀️😰 Unfortunately I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but live and learn right. 😁 I'm ready to pitch it across the lawn! 🤪
My trimmer line is always getting jammed. It's getting better as I have followed your suggestions and kept the line tight and layer after layer. I'm using three or four corner cut lines so it still gets jammed a little bit but it's much better than it used to. Thank you very much.
Frank Crawford Glad to know this video helped you out. I know some of these can be frustrating, once you understand it makes it a lot easier. Thanks for stopping by and posting.
WorkMateGuy. Thank you very much, my husband used to replace the trimming string even tho I did the trimming. (I actually liked to) This is the first year in 5 that I've had to replace it (no instructions book) and to show a 75 year old you made it very easy. Also subscribed in case I need help with something in the future. Thank you again. Hope you have the best life ever.
Thank you for speaking clearly and at an understandable point....My question if I may...What are the 2 holes fot that are on each side at the edge of the spool?
Steven Johnson You are certainly welcome and glad to know it helped you out. I know how frustrating this can be, that's why I made this video. Thanks for stopping by.
I don't know if you answer questions about older videos, but here goes. I have had no trouble in the past loading new line onto my trimmer. Yesterday, however, the line just kept feeding out, continously, creating a whirling line of death that left me with a cut leg. What position does the black doohickey (the technical term) need to be in when I push the spool back into position? I don't think I've lost or broken a piece of it. It doesn't have a spring, correct? Any insight you can give will be appreciated both by myself and my legs. Thanks.
John Steward It sounds like to me that you did not have the spool completely seated in the receiving part of the head. It should snap into place and when you try to twist it, there is just very little play, if you can turn it more then a few degrees it is not seated correctly. Also, make sure that you have the correct side facing you when it's seated. If you see the jagged notches you have it in backwards. I hope this helps.
I got the 900-watt corded version today I didn't snap the line in to place at the end and it just unwinded and ended up finishing the entire spool after hour
Thank you for posting this video!! I was desperately trying to figure out how to restring my trimmer/edger and I couldn't wrap my head around the pictures in the diagram. Much appreciated!!!!!
thanks for the explanation. i was wondering if you knew why the trimmer would auto feed so much that the string would get wrapped around itself? is it that the auto trimmer lock is broke?
@@WorkMateGuy It's not so small, and I can clearly see it, but what's its function, how it works? i'm assuming the little pole it swivels around is damaged on mine. THANKS A LOT..
There's a little plastic rocker arm (or whatever you call it) underneath the spool. I found a video where it fell out allowing the spool to spin. He found the piece in his grass, re-installed it, and it worked. th-cam.com/video/Ohj_2C2GW7E/w-d-xo.html
Very useful. However I don't manage to remove the black spool from the orange part. It's very difficult and if I use a screwdriver or sthg like that to remove it, I'm afraid to break something... How do you do that??
Hi Gerald - I have experienced the same thing and have your concerns as well. I alternate between twisting back and forth and wobbling it in place till I can feel it coming loose and then pull it out. I hope this helps. Cheers.
@@WorkMateGuy Same problem. I've owned this for 2 years and haven't needed to restring until now. Has worked great. But for the life of me, can't separate the spool from the orange cap. Tried tapping it and wiggling it. It just seems locked into place. It has wiggle room but won't come out. I may need to buy a whole new cap and spool unit, which seems silly. Never had issues with previous weed wackers.
Patricia Bird Sometime this can be tough as it is on mine. I am thinking that some gentle tapping with the handle of a small screw driver might just shake it loose. Gently tap, tap, tap... Also gently prying around the edges carefully might help. Just be sure to not use too much force. Thanks for stopping by, and good luck.
You've confirmed I am winding it correctly and everything snaps back into place but it does not advance the line once it gets too short to trim. Any ideas?
before putting the unit back together what position does the little finger have to be in .towards the outer cover OR inward..This wasn't explained and can effect the auto feed IF in wrong position
I do it just like that, and it refuses to automatically feed, I am constantly having to take the spool off and manually unwind the line, then reassemble. Line is tight and smooth on the spool, it just wears away till there is no line sticking out. I have tried OEM line, braided line, twisted line, two layer line that is supposed to feed better, and both larger and smaller diameter than the recommended .080" (2mm) line. Nothing has made any difference. I can also see no damage to the notches on the spool or damage to the pall, which moves smoothly. Might a little spray silicone lube on the pall or notches help?
Sounds like you are winding it correctly. Getting the spool seated in the housing is another issue. Once you have pressed it into the housing there should be a little play a few degrees in either direction. This indicated that the mechanisms are in alignment. Sometimes I have to reseat a few times to get it right. Let me know how it goes.

bjtsven 2015 You should be able to pull it directly out, be careful using force or you many break the spool. Tap Tap Tap the spool gently if It doesn't come loose right away. Also make sure the head is clean before you put the spool back on, Thanks for posting your question and welcome to my channel.
Hi I'm having trouble keeping the spool from spinning it the locking mechanism, it turns side to side, you said it shouldn't turn it. How do I do this?
It can be tricky but watch the video again and you will see that you can make it click into place with some wiggling. Also, feed the line thru the hole as you go to snap it into place.
You have to wind it tight and thread thru the hole in the orange cap. It will come loose just a little. But, should stay in place one you snap it into place.
brown roc Good question. There are several possible causes. Make sure the line is wrapped correctly around the spool, the entire assembly is clean, and the spool is snapped into place and has some play in it. Let me know if any of these suggestions work for you.

Kelly W I suspect it has to do with how well the spool is seated inside the trimmer head. At least that is my guess.
Can you elaborate on the LEVER INSIDE THE HEAD???....I'm unsure mine is displaced. Thanks.
There is a small thin black plastic part inside the orange head that swivels which you can see briefly at 2:45 in the video.

I'm having a problem with the automatic feed. what's causing this problem?
before putting the unit back together what position does the little finger have to be in .towards the outer cover OR inward..This wasn't explained and can effect the auto feed IF in wrong position
The notches on the spool need to be facing into the mechanism away from the cap.
Is it better to use a round line vs a twisted shaped trimmer line?
