I’m confused because I hear that carbs like oatmeal, potatoes and certain fruits eaten alone will cause glucose spikes causing inflammation and we should add protein and fats or there will be a problem.
Its possible that improving our microbiome to very good we handle these types of carbs better but until then we can experiment with an inexpensive blood glucose meter with small amounts of these foods to find out amounts tolerated. Think microdosing lots of variety to build these microbes that one day will improve our ability to handle more variety without the huge spike. Moderate exercise before or after a high carb whole food meal (not processed) really helps my numbers. You can do your own tests with and without different amounts of fat and protein with your veg. It truly is the best way to find out as we all are at different stages of microbiome and gut healing. Hope this helps. 💕
This is excellent health advice. I have one problem with his approach in that it does not consider other organ health, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, metabolic syndrome. So his food choices might be great for gut health, but not ideal for other diseases. There are many foods in his cookbook that would not be good for me. All in all, certainly better that the SAD that most people are eating.
If you've had lots of antibiotics, lots of different kinds over the space of a year and a half, can it kill off all of the good bacteria? If some types are extinct, how can they come back and flourish by eating plants? Are the bacteria we need on food or in the environment or are probiotics needed to reintroduce the missing bacteria?
My nutritionist has me taking “prosynbiotic” by Standard Process Containing inulin, GOS, Saccharomyces boulardi, lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus paracasei, and bifidobacterium I have SIBO diagnosed by the breath test of a GI doctor Should I be taking this?!
I did Raw for 1 month because I could not eat protein... way too much animal protein in my past. Even plant protein was not good for me... I have tons of parasites though which is the real problem. Anyway since doing Raw I can now eat small amounts of protein. I'm working on getting the parasites out.
Caffeine depletes nearly every vitamin and mineral, causing adrenal fatigue, depression and anxiety, plus it over-stimulates your brain/nervous system. Coffee is also the main source of oxalates in the American diet, which are in many plants, and they bind to many minerals, like calcium, iron and zinc, plus oxalates can cause painful joints and kidney stones. Coffee is a risk factor for osteoporosis, as I found out the hard way. Also, coffee is grown in the rain forest and so can contribute to rain forest destruction. Coffee even can cause weight gain at a certain quantity! So, for these many reasons, it's best to minimize it.
Kale is lauded as a "super veggie" but I have difficulty with it as it is a "tough leaf" to chew and even after cooking it in a stew or soup, it still seems a bit tough... Is this only me? Any suggestions on how to make it more digestible? tx
I put kale in my morning smoothie. I know there are pros and cons with smoothies, but that is the easiest way for me to have kale in my diet. I eat a lot of raw and cooked greens at other times of the day, so I look at my morning smoothie as a way to get even more greens into my diet. I also agree that kale is difficult to eat in a salad, but usually I don't have a problem with it cooked into a soup. There is baby kale, which is easier to eat, especially if you massage it like the others suggested. I have also used a food processor to pulse the kale into small pieces, like parsley. You might be able to put some of that on a salad or in a soup. One final suggestion is sprouting or growing microgreens. I have only done this with broccoli seeds, but it might work for kale as well. They are highly nutritious and would be much easier to chew. Just a few suggestions. I hope you find a way to enjoy kale.
Wheatgrass juice, before chemo treatment, and home made vegetable soup after treatment helped me with the side effects .. good luck. Wishing you the best. Vitamins C, Vitamin D, CalMagZinc, and CoQ10. Tumeric/ ginger tea. Short course of Echinacea, Quercetin and Olive leaf if you get sniffles, etc and lots of water with lemon & cucumber. A pitcher of water with 1/2 lemon + 1/2 cucumber slices.🙂🇺🇸

All other organs depend on the gut ...where all nutrients are synthesized and deliver to all other parts of the body through your blood
@@albania18Excellent response. I can't imagine any fiber based recipe that would be bad for anyone except those with rare medical problems.
This Dr is wonderful. Thanks
Interstitial cystitis causes pelvic floor dysfunction as well.
My biggest dream? Talk about nutrition with dr. B, dr. Barnard, etc 😍😍
My nutritionist has me taking “prosynbiotic” by Standard Process
Containing inulin, GOS, Saccharomyces boulardi, lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus paracasei, and bifidobacterium
I have SIBO diagnosed by the breath test of a GI doctor
Should I be taking this?!
I did Raw for 1 month because I could not eat protein... way too much animal protein in my past. Even plant protein was not good for me... I have tons of parasites though which is the real problem. Anyway since doing Raw I can now eat small amounts of protein. I'm working on getting the parasites out.
How do you feel about soy
Circadian rhythm sounds enchanting follow the rhythms of light and read and eat fiber fueled ....

Should pelvic floor therapy help with LARS with constipation?
Thank you for this great information. Great podcast. Wondering about coffee??Good / bad or eh??? for the gut.
Coffee has fiber, it feeds the microbes. Unfiltered coffee has more fiber.
When is the best time to take a probiotic? Can you take a probiotic pill with other vitamins?
On an empty stomach, either before breakfast, or at bedtime.
Kale is lauded as a "super veggie" but I have difficulty with it as it is a "tough leaf" to chew and even after cooking it in a stew or soup, it still seems a bit tough... Is this only me? Any suggestions on how to make it more digestible? tx
I just rub lime or lemon juice in it.
Literally massage it into the leafs
@@anarchy7741 Thanks. I do that but still.... Not my favourite.
I cook for 3 min in the instant pot. It makes it very tender.
try massaging the raw kale in a bowl for 2-3 minutes. If the kale is fresh it makes a big difference.
Doesn’t wheat, oats and all whole grains have phyticacid in them which prevents your body from absorbing nutrients and minerals?
That's because all grains and beans should be soaked. Alot of times we don't eat foods properly
great education health

Is it true that vitamins and minerals are lost when vegetables are cooked?
Some may be lost not all. Some may depending on the heat degree. Some others are also not active if raw. So it's a question of consuming both ways.

Good topic but the interviewer kept gushing over the doctor and complimenting him excessively.
