      Hello!! I have a 2016 Scion ia! A couple of years ago I got a random scratch on my touch screen display. (My friend has the same model and she also developed a scratch on the same spot. Top left of the screen) I didn’t hit it or anything. I also can’t feel the scratch, its like behind the screen or something. We just had some really cold/snowy weather this week and I haven’t driven my car. I just took it out today and I now have 2 more cracks on the right and left bottom part of my screen. Has this happened to your screen?
      I’m assuming its weather related.
      Thank you!☺️

    When I bought my iA you should have seen my husband laughing at my confusion when I lifted up the hood only to see a Toyota badge, a Mazda badge on the door, and Scion badges on everything else! 😂 I wouldn't trade my iA for the world now

    I work at a car dealership, when I first saw a 2017 Toyota Yaris, I was parking it next to a Mazda 2. I was a little confused, and started asking questions about it. I had no idea there was a merger. And now you tell me there’s a Sion of the same model... whoe!! mind blowing. Great review.

    I have a 2016 and it's a great little car. 40+ mpg. and rides smooth and steady at highway speeds. Fun to drive, good size trunk. 40k on the odometer and no problems. I will be checking the brakes soon. I did one mod on it. I added in a Pedal Commander and that made a world of difference with pep and pedal response. Engine is only 106 hp so this mod is the way to go.

    I just purchased a 2017 one and it's a cute little car. The first acceleration is slow, but it improves. EXCELLENT on gas. it took $9.97 to fill up from the half way mark with gas prices at $1.93... Can't beat 32/40 gas mileage👌🏽. I didn't know how to feel about the car at first because it's so tiny, but I really like it. Be sure to have some type of radio subscription on your phone and link it via Bluetooth because the Aha radio sorta sucks. Cute car for teens/young adults, but I'm 43 and still keeping it 😁. I'm used to a larger vehicle, but I'm trying to save money on gas, especially living in expensive Austin, TX...geesh. An armrest would be nice, but oh well. I have a 2016 Scion IA and with just me in the car, the acceleration is acceptable. With 2 adults, well it's a different story. And something else that hasn't been mentioned is in the summer when I accelerate I turn off the air conditioning or it is super slow. I do think my original 2008 Toyota Yaris sedan was a much better car. But at the time it was getting tired and I gave it to my daughter. I bought the IA used for $10,000 with 26k miles on it. So overall I have been pretty happy. I especially like the music system for playing mp3 files in the USB port. It is better than the one in my wife's 2015 Camry.

    I have a 2017 yaris iA and one of the only things I didn't like about it when I first got it was the handling of the highway. It was hard to keep it on track in a straight line and it was due to the stock tires. I had 195 55 16 Firestone Firehawk AS tires installed soon after I bought the car, and it has greatly improved all aspects of the cars handling. Get rid of the stock tires if you enjoy driving slow cars fast.

    The Yaris is a Mazda2, so it is completely designed by Mazda and has a Mazda engine and Mazda's infotainment system. Simply, it's a Mazda with a Toyota badge. Mazda does not sell the 2 in the US. But they sell the Mazda3, which is bigger than the Yaris but similar styled. Like Toyota, Mazda does not offer Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, but Mazda just started offering upgrades on 2014-2018 models. The Yaris is a little smaller then the Toyota Corolla and doesn't have all the same features as the Corolla. Notice the IIHS rates the Yaris headlights poor as they halogen and not LEDs. I find in interesting that the smart key/push to start is standard on Yaris yet optional on Corolla. Also, the Yaris does not have all the safety sense features that the Corolla has.

This has made shifts almost seamless. if you hold the clutch and let off the gas, the computer will perfectly rev match your next gear. Shifting like this, and doing non aggressive 1st gear starts should mean a lifetime clutch. Although, I would say long road trips are not fun in this car, I use my Tacoma for that.

I was also a bit annoyed when I took my car to the dealership for the 6 month service. The guy at the service center first claimed that there was no need to do an oil change at 5000 miles since this car runs full synthetic. I had them do it anyway but they told me at the end that I would only get three free services. I'm not too happy about that but it is what it is.

    I barely drive 4000 miles a year, less kept 3000. Does that mean I need some sort of service so often? The iA is the only traditional gas powered car I liked test driving. I might get a Chevy Spark EV. The Corolla is my second fave. But the iA with a stick shift reminds me of an early 90’s Miata in its graceful moves, feel, and slick shifter. The cockpit is awesome. I mean, it’s NOT Miata, but for a practical 4 door compact with great MPG, it sure is a surprise.

    • @djkenny1202

      I only have 3400 miles on my 2017 iA, have only had 1 oil change/service so far and my second is due within the next month. You'll need to take the iA in for service every 6 months if you don't hit the mileage interval before that so expect twice a year service for the iA. First 2 years are free service at Toyota dealership. The car is fun in automatic with sport mode and I'm sure it's even more fun with a manual transmission. With "only" 106hp I do enjoy driving the iA the same way I drove the car I traded in which was a 200hp VW GTI. The iA is so light that the power it does have feels more than 106hp.

    • @djkenny1202
      @djkenny1202 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why are the requiring a 3k mile oil change? And then another so soon after? It’s syntheric too boot? I’d wait a year on synthetic if it wasn’t hitting 6000 miles at a minimum. But I guess until the warranty is up you stuck with wasting oil. I like these cars. Still not sure if I want an EV Used instead. I’m waiting due to just buying a 2nd house. Got to get the first rented out for at least a year before I’m buying a new car.

      @@DanKidsYouNot It was almost four years old, and I never keep a car more than that. I liked the car, it had good features, and bad ones. My mom is 89 and stopped driving so she gave me her 2013 Corolla with hardly any mileage. I loved driving the Yaris, because it had a zoom zoom Madza feeling, and I loved the steering wheel feeling . I loved the 6 speed automatic, making it great on the highway, low RPM, quiet ride, smooth ride as well. The down side was in the Winter, where I had to drive 20 minutes before feeling adequate heating, also when I had to change the front brake pads at 48,000 km, I didn,t go to the dealership, so they installed brakes that squealed constantly, although they even chnaged the disk. There isn't enough space in the back seat and the headrest is all wrong like described in the video. I had to change the link kits after less than a year and that's not normal. The back door rubber fell apart after 2 years and got that fixed at the dealership, they simply put a tie wrap to hold it in place.....If you don't make a complete stop, the car won't start in 1st gear, making it a very slow start in 2nd gear. With a 4 speed automatic like the Corolla, I can make a stop at 5 mph and still will start in 1st gear, but not this car. You have to really make a dead stop, then you get the power to start quickly in 1st gear.... I had also problems with the fan. Often in the summertime when I set the position to recycled air, I could hear the fan spinning and at every rotation, it made a tick tick tick sound, as if it was touching something and when I'd put it into outside air intake, the sound went away. I guess that the back and forth mechanism had a problem. I endured this every summer for four years. This was also an intermittent problem, so when I went to the dealership to show them, the wound went away. When I finally sold the car, I was sad to part with a car I liked, but relieved to get rid of all these problems. When I bought the car I was expecting Toyota quality throughout, and didn't get it. Other brands may be good, but they aren't 100% Toyota' quality throughout.

      sport mode / manual shifting for overtaking. Down-shift properly by getting to a higher rpm and THEN down-shifting.
      You could also just press the accelerator more and the engine will downshift for you even when you're not in sport-mode giving you plenty of power already.
      If you want to maintain good gas mileage on the highway and you no longer need to overtake or switch lanes quick, disengage sport mode. I have no issues cruising in its regular state. It will happily shift all the way up to 6th gear for maximum gas mileage.

      If you're considering purchasing a used one, I don't think there are enough differences between the 2017 and 2018 to definitely say go with one over the other. I believe the 2018 came with fog lights as standard equipment, but that's a minor bonus. It would really come down to mileage and overall condition, in my opinion... Hope my video helps a bit though, @Daniela!

    Unfortunately, i bought mine unexpectedly without doing my homework and not realizing I had just bought a Mazda. It's a great little car, but definitely not a Toyota. At only 45k i already have to replace the brakes vs my 2012 Yaris with 250k and i have yet to replace the brakes, all I've done to it is regular maintenance. Same with my Prius at 140k i haven't done anything except regular oil changes. Im disappointed in Toyota, if i wanted to buy a Mazda i would have gone to a Mazda dealership.

      So far I've had mostly good things to say about my Yaris iA. Although I also had to replace my front brake pads and rotors at just 18,500 miles! The lack of driving due to the pandemic didn't help, but I was surprised that the front right pad crumbled so quickly...

    • @DanKidsYouNot
      @DanKidsYouNot  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well to be fair, 106 is only the HP number. The differences in engine build and transmission are night and day between Toyota and Mazda. Plus the Mazda engine has a higher compression ratio, I believe--makes the iA's "pick up and go" a little peppier!

    • @mikemorales1725
      @mikemorales1725 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'll take the reliability and durability of the Toyota engine over the little peppier Mazda one any day! Higher compression has to take a toll on the engine in the long run.

    I don’t know why they keep calling this a Toyota Yaris when in reality it is a Mazda 2 with a Toyota label, a model that is over 5 years old. Toyota is trying to trick ppl telling them it’s a new Yaris. Meanwhile the UK gets the real Toyota Yaris 2020. I don’t know why Toyota is doing this with Mazda and the new Supra BMW.
