How did we bail out? If my recollection serves me well Honduras, ended up as the Banana Republic because of a greedy US plantation owner. Likewise, most if not all those mentioned countries, ended up that way 'thanks' to US involvement. Corruption is rife in SA from the President down, through every level of officialdom to the door guard at the local municipality office who will not even allow you through the door to sort out a council problem unless you tip at least 20 rand. I worked in three of these countries, spending over 5 years among the families and students. The corruption is intense and exhausting. If a person comes from a more benign country, it is hard to believe how pervasive and disheartening corruption is.
