  • Finally, I am getting around to showing where and how I store my DVD collection after I have ripped the movie to my HTPC.
Snap-N-Store Disc Storage Box (holds 26 normal cases or about 130 with my method): www.officesupp...
Clear Plastic Sleeves with Flap (500 count): www.amazon.com...

Wow, you have a huge collection! I like how you store everything, great way to save space and still have such a large collection. I love how organized you can be with this. About how many DVDs/Blu-rays do you own? I really liked this video, I hope you do more🙂

Thanks for the huge compliment. My entire collection of almost 2.5K movies is visible here: www.blu-ray.com/community/collection.php?u=281086&action=hybrid
I plan to do another one soon with all the boxes opened spread out on a table so people can really see what this looks like and then imagine it with the normal DVD cases and how much more space it would take up.

@@dontquoteus5379, nice, I’ll keep an eye out for that video, looking forward to it🙂 And that is a massive collection! I’m jealous 🤤 I’m closing in on 500 titles but there’s still a thousand that I want lol.

I cut the front slip covers out depending if it's Lenticular, foil, or embossed. The actual DVD cover has the back art anyway so you're not missing anything. It's like those special comic book covers when you flip through through them.

Storing movies alphabetically is not scalable and will easily become more of a chore than you ever want.
Here's my suggestion as to how I store media, inventory, etc.
For storing movies, here is my suggestion:
Create a spreadsheet with the first column being a number starting with 1, second column is the name of the movie, and other columns to include actors, year, etc if desired. A location column indicates the box number that the movie resides.
Your boxes should then be labeled starting with 1.
Using the spreadsheet, you can easily find any and every movie and never have to worry about scalability.
If you happen to remove a movie from your collection, simply number the new replacement movie with that old number.
With the spreadsheet, you can easily sort the columns to find movies either alphabetically, organized by actor, year, etc.
    Don't lose the spreadsheet! 😮

That looks like it's in a garage... aren't the extreme cold temperatures of winter, or extreme hot temperatures of summer (depending what latitude you're in), really really bad for optical media?

Thanks for the compliment on the shirt. It's hard to go through your collection when it gets large and do a "refresh" or "sort". I have about 400 I need to file away now. I am soooo behind.

Those look so cool, I totally destroyed all my sleeve artwork and cut them into little squares to fit binders, sucks.

    • @dontquoteus5379
      @dontquoteus5379  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Ouch! Sorry to hear that. At least you didn't cut the discs into little squares to make them fit too. Seriously though, the sleeves work great and while they still take up some space, it is a drop in the bucket vs keeping them in cases.

You have so many films!! Do you store music CDs this way also? Thank you so much for the link. The boxes are very neat and tidy.

Yes. These boxes here: th-cam.com/video/foXchS7gOUM/w-d-xo.html work great and hold a ton of CDs, especially if you move the art and disc into CD sleeves like I linked for the actual DVD discs.

I got inspired to streamline my dvd collection in a similar way to your's. I'm currently doing a few hundred dvds and haven't decided whether I want to put blu-rays into sleeves and I'm pretty sure I won't touch the 4K UHDs. Question about your vast dvd collection, do you toss all those cases? I'm currently saving the dvd cases in the garage in case I want to restore them, but my wife is ticked off and telling me I'm only increasing the footprint if I'm sleeving my collection AND keeping the cases. What do you do? Thanks, you're an inspiration!

You can actually go cheaper and get something similar to these from Target. Much cheaper and still very nice: www.target.com/p/sterilite-15qt-clear-view-storage-bin-with-latch-purple/-/A-13794491 I would say to go to Target (or Big Lots) and grab a DVD while you are there to make sure it will fit. I think you can fit about 150 DVDs flattened in one of these, but I haven't counted. DVDs are about 7.25" x 5.75" when flat.

I have taken discs in and out and since the discs are in ones with a felt backing, I get no scratches. As with anything on disc, you just take your time when putting them in or taking them out.

doesn't count as a collection if you're getting rid of the cases, folding the artwork, and keeping them hidden in boxes. The point of a collection is putting it on display. as someone with 3,631 dvds, I know what I'm talking about.
