Fun Fact: the K in K desktop Environment originally stood for Kool, but people thought it was kringe so they shortened it to K the first KDE mascott's name was Kandalf, he is a wizard that helps you configure your system through wizards.
Kandalf reminded me a lot of 90s Windows mascots, and the office assistants in Office 98. Early Konqi reminds me of the assistants / mascots in Office XP, though Konqi and Katie our my favourite Linux mascots, theyre so cute :)
It is actually fine, the system uses 41 MB of RAM and the rest is disk cache which gets unallocated as soon as programs need RAM -- but yeah, I've always thought that this was confusing for everyone haha
I downloaded the first version on day one and have found solutions for all it's problems. I am happy with Mint and wish everyone supports it. Mint 22 is bug free as you can get. I'm loving it!
Mint 22 with mate deskto is my go to disprove for old or weak pc, or for people who want to try something else then win or Mac. No complain so far from my friends a,d family ! Awesome OS!
I remember spending ages trying to get my usb modem to work on Ubuntu, and there were often other hardware problems. To be honest, the improvement in drivers has been so useful for Linux popularity.
18:31 would've been neat to see how badly it would break if you hit the "upgrade" button, assuming that's just as semi-automated like it is today. Wouldn't have survived it, but would've been funny. "hmmm yes today I will jump 5 distro releases, what's the worst that could happen?"
I have a old Dell Inspiron 1440 with a Pentium Dual Core T4400 2.2 Ghz and 4 GB of 800 mhz DDR2, Tossed Bodhi linux on it, and it's pretty snappy with it
wow another old Toshiba Unit - very similar to like mine -a 12 volt unit . I've been trying to find a 32 bit distro of Linux to put on it But its becoming harder and harder to find older versions of Ubuntu

Kandalf is also seen in Image Magick
@@JessicaFEREM KDE devs when they point out that kernel starts with a K.
3:07 you just know you're gonna have a great time when the computer only has 3 MB RAM free at idle

Watching this on Mint 22 👍
In this old limitated hardware: please install Antix or Puppy for a modern user experience. Will the laptop still be useable?
you just be linux
Bejeweled music? Nice 💎😎

The Old Executables were probably hotlinks and they just aren't there anymore
Lol gotta love mechanical hard drives!
I think you have to manually mount the floppy prior to accessing it. There was a Mount option in the context menu I think.
If you like the startup sounds from that you would love the ones from Zorin Os They might have a 32bit Version too
There's no 32 bit Ubuntu from 18.04 release.. only Debian/LMDE support it and other architectures.
you ought to give mandriva a try
What is the music in the background? On 5:00, 18:15 and in all places
the linux version is old but linux can be installed in any machine even the modern once the updated once kde/ gnome are the interface
You could drop in a Pentium III-M for a lot more zip.
16:37 It worked, through coercion.
9:07 if it was an IBM ThinkPad it would be in better condition, if it was a Sony Vaio it would have a nicer screen presumably.
Install Gentoo.
