The tragedy of Windows 7 is that it was truly the most consistent version of Windows. Even the "old" 9x era Windows components still felt like they belonged as a part of the UI in 7. If they offered a version of Windows 11 that was just Windows 7 with modern components, I would install it in an instant. Still perfect to this day.

@@TrizziEhgan There is a transformation pack that turns Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC into Windows 7, and it's pretty damn accurate, the problem is that Windows Update can break it because even though Windows 10's support is about to end, Microsoft keeps fiddling with explorer.exe and making changes :(

I still used Windows 7 all the way up until the beginning of this year, when I discovered that some of the steam games I wanted to play were updated with a new engine and wouldn't work on Windows 7. It was actually quite a pain to get Windows 10 to work on this decade old computer, but I think that was partly down to 2 problems.
    1. The decade old install of Windows 7 must be corrupt somewhere in there, so the update failed.
    2. I was trying to perform the update while I had a dying PSU, so it often BSOD for no reason. The computer wouldn't post if a USB boot device was plugged in, and even trying to boot the Windows 10 installer from a DVD result in a BSOD.
Eventually I did get Windows 10 installed, but there were quite a few drivers missing. I did eventually manage to get all the drivers installed after replacing the PSU.

Near the end of the video, you mentioned that the 7th gen processors don't support Windows 7. I never even connected the dots until, well, just a few minutes ago. Those 7th gen CPUs only officially support _ONE_ version of Windows, and that's Win10!

I refurbished my old laptop that came with Vista Home premium. It had a hinge broken and was crying in a wardrobe for years, not sure what to do with it and nobody wanted it for spare parts, despite being otherwise good. After reinstalling the OS for sale, it lost connectivity to the wifi, I didn't know why but now I think I know: drivers. This year I got my hands on Linux and experimented with a few distros on this little old buddy, also cleaned it inside, upgraded RAM and ssd drive and replaced the broken hinge (both of them as I got the spare parts in a pair). All I can say is that this little old thing is running like new on Wilma distro, 64 bit. I am not getting rid of it now.
There I have also another desktop that came with Win7 and I very unhappily had to put it aside for Win10 which I didn't like at all and I skipped Win8 completely. Now Win10 is going to lose support and Microsoft making hundreds of millions still good to go computers just e-waste, toxic at that. I resist. Linux is a great alternative for the majority Windows user who don't rely on specific software, and even with a few tweaks this specific software can run on a computer with Linux, hardware permitting.
Nice reminders of the past. Vista was bloated with unnecessary bells and whistles but I got on with it quite fine, not having much to compare it to, except of the previous XP that was the very first of my onw laptop back then. I loved my Win7, never needed to reinstall it. But I had to do with with my current Win10, for the blunders of Microsoft themselves. And those struggles actually braved me to try Linus. So MS can only blame themselves for losing another user next year.

windows POSready 7 received updates until Oct. 8th this year, and some specific installs of windows server 2008 r2 will keep getting updates until 2026. 7 is an OS that just keep on going no matter how much it goes against modern microsoft's core philosophy of you will own nothing, not even your OS and you will be happy

Happy 15th anniversary, Windows 7! I remember back in 2010 when my dad got himself a Toshiba Satelite which used to be his first Windows 7 machine, second was my parents got are Sony VAIO laptops and then 2 of Vizio laptops which is their finale machine they got that's running 7. Also I have a Dell laptop that was pre-installed with Windows 10. Back in 2017, the computer was now running Windows 7 since the computer guy fixed it due to a virus because I was downloading too many files on the machine. I'm going to miss Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 & Windows 10 (when it's support ends at October 2025) so much. It brings back memories.

I lived on 7 from shortly after release day until last year when I bought my roommates old gaming PC and jumped to Windows 11. I'm still mad about it too because I had to use Rufus to disable all the telemetry and MS account requirement and the Copilot nonsense and after that I had to install a bunch of UI tweaks to make it look like something my brain understands. I would do anything to have a version of 7 that still gets developer support and security updates. I'm about ready to dive head first into Linux at this point.

Windows 7 will suffer the same fate as Windows XP; most software won't be supported, drivers not available for newer hardware etc. Also installing in native EFI mode (non CSM) is a nightmare. And if Microsoft decides to release a 'Windows 12', then the same cycle may repeat. Hopefully 11 is the last and hence 10 forever.

If 10 years of updates slows down that much, I'll suggest you to compare Windows 10 1507 and 22H2, and there you'll get the real definition of "slowing down due to updates".
With that comparison, you'll also see how much resource-hungry Windows 10 became in the span of 7 years from 2015 to 2022.
