    That's a very nice job of magic knurling at 2:49 - you should do a slow motion of that.

      hahaha.. good point. I also noticed that miracle.

    Great video. I've bought a few stamps I had to have at 30 bucks that are near impossible to make because of the detail. Making simpler ones this is indispensable. Showing how this can be done simply and easily is fantastic.

    Hola, lindo video. Lo que no entiendo es porque comenzó con un tornillo con rosca y cuando lo llevó a la lijadora tenía un serigranado. Lo hizo usted o cambio el tornillo por otro material para hacer el burel?

    Good Video, but how did you get the GRIP PATTERN on the bolt?

    Enjoyed your videos. Are you still on here? Have you made textured bevelers or pear shaders? Thanks for sharing.

    I've looking for a while about how to do this. Keep it up.
    I would like to know how do you get the tooling pattern on the shaft of the bolt. The video doesn't show that.

      The knurling is done on a metal lathe. There are hand knurlers availiable but they will not do a continuous knurl and they are relatively expensive. Thanks for watching.

      Wait, your using only hand tools, but off camera you use a metal lathe ?

      There are a few videos on YT about knurling without a lathe (Though only three made by the same guy). Look for the videos titled "without a lathe knurled screw" 1-3.

    hello, first of all a big thank you for these two videos! I'm trying to do stamping tools for a while and your videos are a great help! I am surprised comments below that do not even bother to say thank you!!!!
    I wanted to ask you what was the grain of the paper on your belt sander? is the paper special? it seems to heat little and I do not notice any spark

    Hey Joshua, Nice video. Really like it. But, can you make more other tools? I think we all can make a pear shape one. We need to see better ones? Cause there are other tools. We want to know?
    Thanks againS

    very nice ... but I bet getting that electrical grinder will be more expensive than buying all the tools I need :/

      @shaginrtn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really appreciate it.
      At this time the grinder is about $45 at our favorite discount tool store :) so I guess it depends on how many tools you need and where you are getting them. Thanks for watching!

    2:44 no knurling on the bolt shank. 3:09 the shank is knurled! Where did the knurling come from? No sign of a lathe! 🙄

    You can buy a handheld knurling tool. Not expensive.

      Where ? I have looked for a handheld knurling tool and they cost a fortune and are not that good, they barely scratch the metal

    Excellent video! Can you temper these stamps and and use for metal work also?

    • @shaginrtn
      @shaginrtn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure if they can be tempered. I think they work harden a bit as you make them. Might be enough to work on softer metals. Thanks for watching.

    What kind of stainless are you using? 304? 316?

    • @shaginrtn
      @shaginrtn  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bolts I use are common off the shelf type so I believe it is an 18-8 type 304. The 316 is for more corrosive environments and would be a more specialized and expensive bolt. Thanks for watching.

    • @TheBootneck
      @TheBootneck 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi,
      I don't know if this helps but 303 is supposed to be free cutting or free machining. I'm not a metal expert - this is just someting I picked up in my travels thru the net. I don't even know if there are bolts made in 303. What I heard was that 303 has a higher sulfur content and that makes it easier to work but at the expense of corrosion resistance, which for what we want would not really matter.
      Kind regards, John

    The knurling?

    • @shaginrtn
      @shaginrtn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The knurling is the checked grip on the handle. I hope this answers your question and thanks for watching.

    • @tomanderson3007
      @tomanderson3007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I know what the knurling is. LOL I was asking how you did it? Sorry I wasn't more clear.

    • @shaginrtn
      @shaginrtn  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha. No problem. The knurling is done on a metal lathe. There are hand knurlers available but they will not do a continuous knurl. There are a bunch of lathe knurling videos on youtube that show how it is done.

    • @tomanderson3007
      @tomanderson3007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      10-4. So it doesn't appear to be something that one could do without a lathe.

    • @shaginrtn

      Correct

  • @Waveluth
    @Waveluth 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you not telling us how you did the knurled surface on the bolt. It sort of just appeared????
    Nice video but unless you show the entire story how do we know the bolt you started with is the same as the finished tool. I'm not trying to be a jerk but the kneeling is a pretty major part of the finished tool and you didn't show that part.
    Am I the only curious one??
    Thanks anyway though, it came out nice either way.
    Knurling PLEASE??????
    😃

      Waveluth, he used a metal cutting lathe. Said so in a reply to a previous comment. Hope this helps you.
