It’s not always easy to choose the right Toto Drake Toilet. Especially when Toto has over 70 different variations on the model. In this video I break down the three main categories and several sub categories of each version of the toilet. As usual below are my top picks in each category.
TOTO CST744E#01 Eco Drake Two-Piece Elongated 1.28 GPF Toilet, Cotton White

TOTO CST454CUFG#01 Drake II 1G Two-Piece Elongated 1.0 GPF Universal Height Toilet with CEFIONTECT, Cotton White

TOTO CST746CEMFG#01 Drake Two-Piece Elongated Dual Flush 1.28 and 0.8 GPF Universal Height DYNAMAX TORNADO FLUSH Toilet with CEFIONTECT, Cotton White

We remodeled and got our first Toto toilets with the Acquia models that have the duel flush button. BOTH toilets had broken buttons within the first year. So it's only a one flush system anyway because the button that's smaller is depressed in. At least the 1.6 gallon button works.
I agree with the other duel flush annoyances. I'll stick with a handle next time.

I just bought the Toto Drake 2 with a 1.6 flush. Because 2 of our Toilets are fairly far to the sewer drain. There for need more water to get to the sewer. As a plumber. Some of these 1 Gal. Per flush toilets. Are not enough water to flush all the waste and carry it to the sewer.
So people have to know about this before. Thinking only about water savings. Plus not enough water from a single flush. By not having enough water for a single flush of TP and waste. Can cause a clog down the drain line.
And now your paying for a plumber.
    Something to think about.

Great info! Just found out Home Depot lists 319 different models of Toto toilet, egads! From the reviews, these are items people find important, that I would never have thought of: rim height (15" is old standard, 17" new 'ADA'), elongated vs round, size of water pool in toilet (i.e. does poop hit water or sides). I have an old Toto Drake that I would like to buy again, but now the models are different it seems.

I tell you, I love Toto, but was not real happy with the flush on my 15-year old or so Toto Drake with the old power gravity until I switched the flapper from the Korky to Fluidmaster adjustable (with the holes on the side and a ring you rotate to adjust how much of the hole is exposed). I know Totos come with Korky/Lavelle flappers and Toto recommends them but there was a dramatic increase in the flush power.

FWIW, Since the first Governor Brown governorship, I still practice the "If it's yellow, let it mellow, If it's brown, flush it down." When I'm home alone, I generally only flush #1 every 3rd or 4th time anyway.

As part of a total master bath remodel (doing it all myself) I just replaced our 30 year old Briggs, which probably used 4 gallons per flush (or more) with a new Toto Drake ii 1.28 gal single flush with elongated seat. I put a Toto Soft Close seat on it. I thought about getting a 1.0 gal but decided to go for slightly bigger capacity, which is still less than half the value our old Briggs had so I expect we will save enough $$ after about 3 years to pay for the Toto. When I first saw how much water was in the bowl I though "no way this is going to flush solids", but I was wrong. I've been amazed at how efficient this thing is. I'm loving this tornado flush system, and love the idea that I likely won't need to replace a stupid flapper valve every year or two.
By the way, I did not use a wax ring for the install. Instead a friend told be about the Fluidmaster seal and that's what I used - it was so much easier and you can remove and reposition the toilet after the install, which is really nice.

Thank you for your videos. I need a new tank for an old TOTO Bowl CST704, I believe the tank is an ST703, both are discontinued now, I believe the tank was replaced with ST706. I wish I had kept the cracked tank and try to fix it because I am having a hard time finding a replacement. Are there any other tanks that fit this bowl and work... ? is an 1.6pf... thanks again.

    • @RemodelMedia
      @RemodelMedia  ปีที่แล้ว

There are no other tanks that fit this bowl unfortunately. Your best bet is to find a local Toto dealer, preferably a small family run business/hardware store that's been in business for a long time and see if you luck out on them having a matching tank. If you're in Southern California try RSSA Home Improvement on Brookhurst in Anaheim.

I recorded a response on TikTok which will be available on TH-cam later this week. Basically the height I've found to be a non-issue for children. My 8 year old uses the taller toilets with zero difficulty. But there are some design differences you need to be aware of when it comes to cleanability and longevity. See the links below for my response on TikTok as well as links to the products discussed in the video.

Looking for a new toilet - I’ve read reviews on the Drake II (elongated) about how they have cleanse issues with ‘man parts’ - like the bowl is shallow. Has anyone had a similar experience? I really want a TOTO - but not this ‘feature’...can anyone confirm or deny?
Do the Drake II and Ultra Max II (both elongated) have the same bowl ‘profile’? Thanks for any advice.

However if you want a toilet with all the same features you need to look at the Vespin II and order the accessory 10 inch rough in kit. I’ve never had that problem nor has any of my family. We’ve all owned Toto‘s. Nor have I heard of that problem with any of my clients over the course of 16 years. The trouble with online reviews as people can write whatever they want and there’s no way to ask them follow-up questions to determine if it’s possible that it was an installation error. I’ve seen a lot of reviews that are negative on the product when it’s pretty clear the problem was the installation.

Hi I have something called multiple chemical sensitivities disorder where I react to chemicals and I am noticing that all brands of toilets are putting anti microbial coating in their toilets and I am trying to find one without that added toxicity. I noticed some Toto toilets don’t have this but I do notice that ALL Toto toilets have a California 65 warning that the toilet contains lead and other materials that can cause cancer and birth defects. This makes me nervous. No other brands has the California 65 warning except Toto and I would like to know what is it about Toto toilets that makes them have to list that warning? I called Toto several times and got transferred around for 2 hours always getting conflicting answers. Some saying yes there are cancerous chemicals in it but you are fine if you don’t expose your skin. But you have to sit on the thing....and it’s not just the toilet SEAT I’m talking about because it’s listed for all the toilets that don’t even include the seat. With my compromised health I want to make sure I am getting a safe toilet and shouldn’t have to pick between two poisons, the anti microbial coating or cancerous issues. Thank you so much for your response.

The flappers only need to be replaced “every year” because people put those blue or chlorine tabs in the tank. These destroy rubber.
