The English and French did fear colonies and the rest of the inhabitants of the territories they occupied DID NOT HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS as the colonizers. 😉

go tell that to the first inhabitants of Haiti who were exterminated by the Spanish, 90% of the populations in contact with the Spanish died, from exploitation, conflict, disease brought by the Europeans.
10 seconds to check on Google that you're talking crap, by the way another thing, colonization happens AFTER the conquest .... by the way the French, my people, arrived 40 years after the Spanish, if you make an effort you'll go read "Valladolid controversy" and you'll see if the natives were "Spanish like the others" lmfao

The fact that in the comments people say that Spain colonized like other European powers actually did, ignoring the fact that Spain had Viceroyalties and not colonies (totally different things) and that the term "Spanish Inquisition" is still used when in reality in any other European country many more people were burned by their own Inquisitions (fir giving an example it's like comparing 50 vs. 25.000), speaks about the devastating effect of the anti-Spain Black Legend created by its enemies (England (mainly) & Netherlands among others and now continued by USA), so much envy and fear is interesting, I advise people to really investigate in real historic files, getting out of that prefabricated bubble.

    • @tiagodacruz2484
      @tiagodacruz2484 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

True. Portugal also has Viceroys in some places.
Although, because of the lack of manpower, Portugal expanded mostly as a trading empire and only really developed more extended territorial control when France, England and Netherlands began colonizing and taking every bit of land they could for themselves.
Also, Portuguese king D. Manuel, issued a command for his men not to rape the peoples they traded with and the peoples from the lands they occupied (in some cases gifted to the crown by the native kings, now his vassals). He ordered them to marry the women and befriend the men. This was, the next generation would also be Portuguese.
Sure, there was war and abuse, as always in human history, however a deeper understanding of the context would go a long way to stop many of these foolish thoughts.

Just a note. The North African percentage that Latinos usually get does not usually come from the Muslim conquest, as that is included in the "Spanish" result which is from the modern Spanish population. Instead, it most likely comes from Guanche people from the Canary Islands. You can see that the Puerto Rican guy has Canary Islands as the first region in his Spanish result.

@@goodaimshield1115 Interestingly I am similar culturally in many ways to my Latino (mostly Mexican American) friends. Most people consider me hispanic because based on looks they usually assume I am Mexican. I think for ethnic Filipinos, many Latinos in the US first see them as Asian (so don't see them as "hispanic") but then come to learn how many similarities there are in the culture. Great example of this is my boyfriend's family and many others that are half Mexican and half Filipino, it's a common mix cuz of how similar our cultures are and the communities are very entertwined where I live. But this is of course speaking from a US perspective, maybe in Spain or in Latin America spanish speakers would see Filipinos very differently. But from my experience the cultures are similar enough to where most Mexicans don't care what I am and accept me as their own, bonus points that my Filipino side knows a little spanish 🤷‍♀️
Also for anyone interested, I am mestiza, descended both from indigenous Filipinos, Spaniards who colonized the Philippines centuries ago, and more recent Spanish immigrants who came after the Philippines belonged to the U.S. 😁😁That is why I appreciate the guy on this channel for knowing his history, because being from one of these colonized countries means you can be a mix of so many things! I think it is a deeply racist position to be unhappy or ashamed or have any other negative emotion based upon the racial element of your genetics. It's based on a belief that some race groups are better/worse than others, which is the definition of racism.
And, honestly, knowing your racial genetic makeup really shouldn't change anything in your life. You are still exactly the same you that you were before you read the results.
Edit: Also, one thing to consider regarding folks having Italian DNA as well as Spanish/Portuguese, is, well, Rome. The majority of people who have ancestry from huge chunks of Europe likely have some small amount of Italian DNA simply because of how far and wide the Roman legions traveled across Europe, establish cities, many of which still stand today.

We have a lot in common and even have a very similar world view despite the stereotypes people may have of islander caribbeans. According to 23andme and GEDMATCH, I have a mediterranean Y dna, which could possibly be related to Spanish Jews and a Canarian mtDNA. At the autosomal level I am 81% European/North African/Middle Eastern, 10% and 9% Subsaharan African and Indigenous, which could alternate depending on the test or calculator. This does not mean I am white or that I feel white. First, because I am a multiracial and multiethnic individuals. Second, because culturally I have A LOT of subsaharan influence.
However, I do admit that this neo taíno movement, composed by predominately mediterranean individuals with a relatively low native admixture, is in denial of the fact that we descend from many different ethnic groups, including Conquistadores, Colonizers, The Enslaved, The Escapees (in my case Sephardic Jews), and the Conquered (Both caribbean indigenous and Guanche Canarian Aboriginal).

With that said, these terms are U.S. designations that are based on U.S. politics for census purposes. They fail to recognize the vast cultural diversity that is Latin America.

But I fail to see what I gain from letting a past I had no hand in, dictate how I conduct myself, or value what I do or how I ought to treat people. The drive to take on pride, or have shame in, an immutable characteristic of ones self, shows how shallow and mentally deficient these kids are. It is not just Americans you can find this nonsense everywhere.
The people in Spain right now are also barely Spanish. What we call Spain today was inhabited by the Celts, then Gauls, then Phoenicians, (Greek) then Romans, then Germanic tribes, then the berbers (a mix of Celtic, Phoenicians, and northern + sub Sahara aftrica), Arab, and finally re taken by a mix of French (who are themselves a mix of just about everything I just mentioned), German (who are again a mix of just about everything I mentioned) and the local population. There is scarcely a country in Europe that doesn’t have this type of intermixing. You would be hard pressed to find just about anywhere in the world that doesn’t involve a great mixing of migrating and displaced peoples.
Everything I just listed about Spain happened in just 3 thousand years. While these test can show you certain clusters of similar dna profiles to existing populations such as Puerto Rican or Caribbean, they hardly tie you to an ethnic group, history, or culture.

Some don't understand national borders. There is a spate of people on twitter and tube saying they are from some indigenous tribe or other and I guess wanting to be recognized as such, and just insist on calling themselves Native American, which is what natives who live in the country of America call themselves. For some reason, they don't want to call themselves Native Guatemalan, Native Mexicans. They'll use the names of tribes in America as hashtags and they'll show indigenous from Central or South America. The tribes of Canada have their own name they use, First Nations. Many from anywhere south of the American border will say goofy things that don't make any sense like "we're going to get the US to recognize us and then we'll claim land so US gov can give us land and casinos. Its the government of the country they live in they need to get recognition from and the point of land claims is a tribe wants some of the same land back on the exact same spot they lived on for centuries before colonists got here. Its being in the exact same spot their ancestors were that's important. Don't care if the Empire State Building is there now. Vacate. Or, a temporary settlement in the mannered style they learned from Native Americans. Sit down be civilized. be hospitable. Have a smoke and be spiritual, be thinking and praying quietly in your mind while you do this. Shut up. Observe. Negotiate. Give us something else of equal or greater value to at least try to make it right. That's how we did it. (cannibalism?) Don't be a jerk and just walk off so you can be on time for your protest for Palestine. That's what makes people hate. For anything south of southern US border, land claims would be with The United Mexican States or another south or central american country that began as a colony of Spain. Not the United States of America. When you try to explain to them they are in a different country colonized by a different European power and would be called something else, they cry around and say you're being mean to them. How did Spain mess so many people's minds up?

Plus, tlaxcaltecs didn’t actually joined spaniards because of that, actually the tlaxcaltecs were very agressive first and even sacrificed spaniards messager. The cards and insults were constant (like xicotencatl's insults)l it was until spaniards threatened tlaxcaltecs, telling them if they don’t join them, they will go with aztecs to come back and destroy Tlaxcala. They were scared and acceptedm but there was some misunderstoods or abuses with culture transition of tlaxcaltecs, actually, many tribes joined spaniards because they defeated their leader or because of fear, then with a lot of tribes they could threaten more bigger civilizations and with those civilizations destroy aztec empire.

Spain didn’t have colonies, the territories in America were part of the nation and the political structure was of Vireinatos (something like vice kingdoms). As a matter of fact in 1898 when Cuba and Puerto Rico were lost in the Spanish-American war both Cuba and Puerto Rico were considered Provinces of Spain with the same rights and obligation as Galica or any other priovinces in the spanish mainland. SImply put considering Cuba or Puerto Rico to be colonies would be like considering the Canary Islands or the Balearic Islands to be colonies nowadays. The political figure of a Colony was used by British and French not Spanish.
