i have the feeling it is better to get all your fan's in the same direction to get a big flow. facing them in opposit directions sometimes gives me the feeling you result with 0, if you understand what I wanna say :D but super cool setup! love the 2 big screens!
We tackled assembling the bike as a family project. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxzg0clhbtRf2gGxPkVETFKJJKGqdsorQu The package is heavy, but I have 2 teen boys that were able to move it. The written instructions were great- we didn't need to watch the videos, but it was good knowing that the option was there if we needed it. After we were able to get it set up, the boys each rode 3 miles and I rode 8 and the bike stayed quiet. The display is easy to reset, and you can put it on whichever setting you are using (time, distance, calories, etc). I will say that my butt is a little sore from the seat, but that could be because I haven't rode in a while. While it is comfortable for me, it was not comfortable with the seat position for my friend (could not move the seat back far enough and he slightly looked like a kid riding a tricycle that he had outgrown). He also said that the seat hurt his manly parts. We are going to look for a different seat that will be compatible with this bike for him.I did purchase the Wahoo Cadence sensor and strapped it to the crank of one of the pedals. This will sync with my Apple Watch, iPhone and will import data in to my Health app. Wahoo does have other sensors available other than cadence. I can also keep either my phone or my iPad on the display and they both feel pretty secure.
Arrived as expected with all parts intact, also included two hex keys for assembly. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxwOUUBdw8-88Iu4QnQS7q6b2NwZkHiYVl Had to adjust mine slightly to fit my bike, this was easy enough with instructions. I bought it to train with my track bike and found it to have resistance similar to climbing a slight gradient. Takes a while to learn to balance but there is plenty of guidance to help on the internet. Edit: There was more resistance at lower speeds because of the number of contact points but at higher speeds it is much easier as you don’t have to contend with drag.
100% agree! We spend a LOT of time in these places. People can say HTFU all the want, but why should we hate it? It's a good thing to enjoy what you're doing. :)
Yeah I have to agree with you it looks so much better when the screen is low all you need now is a zwift run ultimate setup then you can have the best of both worlds!
Great setup, well done! You should consider adding a shallow shelf below the window for you to put your keyboard, phone, water, etc on during your rides.
Thanks, I sure do! Yeah, it's been a LONG time with some pretty hilariously terrible setups. Taking my trainer to the gym wasn't terrible, but running it indoors or in parking garages was pretty bad.
Very well done indeed, if you’re going to do it once then do it right after planning which you have done. Enjoy, trust this will inspire others to setup whatever they’ve been meaning to put together. I have the same core unit, kickr climb in transit to complete what I want to have. Thanks for the upload!
That has to be the best set up I've seen so far, and the best part, it's less $$ than a Peloton. I really like the way you set up the lower TV monitor to give realism to your ride. I am going to do just that. Much mahalo!!!
Thanks Tariq! I'm super happy with it. Funny enough, excluding the bike, but including the trainer, computer, and everything else, it's still way less than the cost of a Peloton. Funny how that works!
Congratulations and awesome setup! One thing that I added to my wife’s setup and then to mine as well is some Nanoleaf Canvas lights. They are great for just having the room lit for your mood or if you are playing music they can change to the beat.
Oooh those are cool! I did some research trying to find if there's an easy-ish way to incorporate some ambient lighting (like Phillips Hue) into the computer. I found a couple options but didn't pull the trigger on anything. Since I'm running a computer vs just an HDMI device I have some additional lower lost options, but haven't picked one yet. Totally agree though, love mood lighting
LOVE the aftershox bone conduction headset. My Fluid2 is kind of loud and it's the only way I can hear any tv/music while on the trainer. Best outdoor running/workout headphones too.
Hahah right?! Funny story, I actually just have super sensitive eyes. I use those safety glasses for running at dusk (lots of bugs) and then without any glasses my eyes water like crazy with the fan. 🤣
@@JustinDoesTriathlon Yeah I use my shades as well in the evenings cos of the TV brightness. Also dont underestinate the nano projectiles from the front blower. I got my eye infected once because of that.
Congrats on your Pain Cave!! I have a Road bike that I keep on the trainer all set up next to the treadmill in my Pain Cave. It makes it very easy to train whenever you want without having to take off a tire or other setup issues. Just hop on and go. If you put a treadmill in there then you should consider the Stryd foot pod/power meter as it pairs well with Zwift Running. Helps get in the bricks.
Smart! I've definitely kicked around the idea of getting a little bike just for indoor training, but I'd love duplicating my aero position. Who knows, maybe in another decade, lol! A treadmill is another good idea! That's probably the one con with this room; it's second floor. It's over the garage, but I don't know if I could get away it for noise. But yeah! That would be a great little setup.
I use a music stand directly in front of my handlebar. The stand has two small, level metal shelves attached. The top one holds my keyboard and the bottom one holds my tv remote, fan remote (to turn them on or off when I'm warmed up) and smart phone. The blank spaces on the wall has bicycle art/photos. I painted the room a bright green which energized me. My training bicycle is attached to a Neo trainer and lacks any wheels as I built a front support. This way I never have to fill up the tire. The set-up is adjacent to a wall sized window that faces a bucolic back yard on the south side, no direct sunlight. I have two screens, one for Zwift and the other for streaming music, news, whatever. I also have room for a resistance machine.
Those are all awesome ideas! No direct sunlight is huge. When I picked this room, I specifically made sure it wasn't sunlit in the afternoon when I ride. That's a great tip if you have flexibility.
I reckon you take a screwdriver or knife and poke a small hole in the mat, allowing you to cable manage the ANT+ cable even more efficiently. Great setup, currently creating a beginner setup myself.
That's a solid idea! I like it. I've moved things around a bit to get the ANT adapter higher up near the computer. It's further away, but I've had better results oddly enough. That's a great idea though
This is great, I’m trying to switch to only indoor training even tho I live in a beautiful city I can ride my bike, but I think I’ll see a lot more improvement when riding indoor
Great setup, I'm using a laptop in my room now, after a 2 hour Zwift ride room is much cooler than the desktop I had esp in summer :) wall mounted digital thermometer quite handy btw
Haha for sure! I've got a more powerful / overclocked desktop in another room, and yeah, they can really heat a room up. Thankfully the 9400f is only 65w TDP, so I'm putting out way more heat than it is lol
"People mount their displays too high" "You should mimick the outdoor position indoors" I completely disagree, it's way too easy to strain your back outdoors. I have an indoor bike and the handlebars are higher/closer, making it so I can have a straight back and look at an angle that is higher on the wall. Thanks for the fan reccomendation! The setup is sick even though it's not how I'd do it for myself!
Interesting! See to me, that reads as your outdoor position isn't dialed in all the way? My outside position needs to be comfortable for 3-5 hours, and then I try to duplicate that on the indoor side of things. If I can't hold it indoors, I can't hold it outdoors. That said, I definitely get your point, and it's good to hear the perspective. No one should be in pain, that's for sure!
@@JustinDoesTriathlon There are different subsegments of cycling and all have different positions. Additionally there rider variables to account for. so ya, cool, but not ideal for most people outside tri.
Spot on about the shelf, I use my window sil. And yeah, speakers are on the list. I'm using the TV speakers now, and they're fiiiine, but I think I'll throw a pair of Micca's in.
Dude! Looks great 👍🏽. I have my own set up that’s very similar including the choice of paint! I also have a closet where I keep ALL ancillary stuff including gear and clothing for multiple sports. I actually still had my 50 inch plasma TVs and monitors from several computer systems I’ve had over the years I am able to connect to my iPhone with a few HDMI adapters. They DO heat up a bit but that’s not really a problem with the ceiling fan and stationary fan going at the same time. My ATT phone has unlimited data and great reception so I don’t use internet via cable or satellite. It’s all through the phone. I use Quadlocks to stabilize the phone when riding. Your videos are very inspirational and you have a fantastic personality young man (I’m 60 years old). Keep up the great work! 👊🏽
That's awesome, it's funny how different people can kind of circle on to the same choices (even down to paint!) It's funny, I know that sometimes people can have an attitude of like... "Oh just harden up and deal with it." And maybe there's something to be said for dealing with adversity in training, but I've dealt with terrible setups for a LONG time, and now I'm like... "Hey if it doesn't need to be terrible, why not make it great?" We spend a lot of time training and dealing with those built environments, and I'm all for making them as enjoyable and positive an experience as possible. Thanks for the kind words! Funny enough, I don't really 'feel' like the type of personality to make videos. I don't consider myself interverted per se, but it does take a lot of effort for me to sit down and put some content out there, so I appreciate that you're enjoying it. :) Good luck with your winter hours!
Justin can you include links for the computer parts, and also the coax connector that you used to hardwire your tvs and any other parts you may have used. Thanks and great setup.
Very nice set up. New to cycling and just got the trainer for session after work. In the winter here in Texas it gets dark about 5:30pm (1700hr) so I felt it was a good way to get in at least 30min after work each day. I use a Apple TV 4K for zwift and just mounted a old tv my wife was about to sell on fb market place. Plan to tidy up the area and I really like the simple pc build and dual monitors you have.
That's an awesome setup! I moved to Portugal and we're very limited on space. But I am in the process of buying a new apartment and I'll have a room for my home office and bike. I'll definitely be copying your monitor layout and just run it all off my second laptop. Thanks for the ideas 👍🏼
Awesome, congrats! I infinitely empathize with the lack of space; literally had to deal with tiny apartments for MANY years. You still have to do the work, of course, but it's great to have a spot that you can just dedicate to your effort. I think you're really going to like the dual screens: biggest tip is to get everything as low as you can. It's less of a big deal on the road bike, but on a tri bike, it really reinforces having a super low, heads down position. Enjoy!
Big 👍🏾 on the dual TV screens. Guess what. I have the same setup as well. Dual 43" 4K TV screens on a dual vertical TV stand. Yeah Ive got the lower one low but not tilted up cos I need to put a webcam on top of the lower TV. But dual 4K is JUST GREAT man.. you can do so many multitasking. I do online video courses while on endurance ride. Also you can do with more fans to feel comfortable. It helps to vapourise ur sweat ibsteas of trickling down to ur bike components. You're right about a rear fan which many overlook but I suggest a standing fan for the rear because u need to cool ur back.
Exactly! I really like the dual screen. Online courses while on Z2 is a great use of time, lol. Yeah, I definitely want to play around with my fan choices. I'm pretty darn happy overall, but I seriously love ALL the airflow, ha. Can never have too much. And great point about Windows/primary screen. Windows has a lot of quirks like that. Also, shout out to the Manx Missile! I grew up watching Cav win.
My training room also has carpet and I found that the trainer wasn't very stable when I just had it on a trainer mat. I bought a piece of MDF the same size as the training mat and placed that under the mat. It made a world of difference to the stability of the trainer and I am also less concerned about making a hole in the mat and destroying the carpet underneath. Otherwise, your training room looks great - I like the idea of a low mounted TV - I made need to do that in the future...
The MDF is a really good idea.... My trainer is pretty stable, but more is always better. Sometime this winter I might do a rocker plate built, but honestly I'm just kinda mentally over constantly trying to do more and more. Rockers are built out of ply anyway though, so I could totally just buy some ply and put it under the mat in the meantime. That's a good idea! Oh and yeah, low tv is a BIG thing for me. I can't stand the setups that are so high. Being on aerobars probably exacerbates it vs being more upright on a roadbike, but it's super uncomfortable to me
The one thing you left out is the camera on the side so you can see yourself on the bike. Almost everyone has an awareness problem, you think you’re doing something, but you’re not, or on a tri bike you may think you’re within your range of motion, but the camera may say otherwise. The mirror on the side doesn’t work here, you need to be in riding position. One of the things I’ve grown to love about coaching on Zoom is my clients can now see themselves. What you gain buy having a view of yourself from the side is an understanding of what can improve. I would put that very high on the list, right after owning a bike, a trainer and a fan. As for the entertainment, many people find that understanding the problems and fixing them is what keeps them coming back. Unlike fitness gains, the first stages of learning technique happen quickly. I know you have a camera...
Great room I have a very similar setup. I went and used the Phillips hue or the teckin bulbs so I can dim the room so I wasn't only looking at screens at night though and you then get full RGB dimmable lighting.
Oh hell yeah! I looked into Hue and even some computer controlled RHB lighting around the screen based on what's being displayed. It's a lot cheaper than Hue for that because the computer does the processing va needing their box. Might explore more in the future. Honestly I've really just been fully dark mostly. If I leverage the dimmer I installed, it's to keep it super dark. I just don't like bring rooms haha
It's huge. Especially on those days where you aren't really in the mood, having to setup and tear down all my gear was really annoying and led to some skipped workouts. Now I have no excuses!
So you are running Zwift and TrainerRoad in like different windows like a multi monitor computer setup. Much more flexible than Apple TV or an iOS device.
Looks great Justin! I reckon a lightstrip around the screens, synced, would look great 👌🏼. Just got myself a WiFi adapter for my fan so I can turn it on from my phone once I’m warmed up as it doesn’t have a remote
Thanks Sam! Funny, I actually did get a light strip just for ambiance (lol) but I didn't go the synced route. That looks pretty cool! I saw some homebrew ones. Might hack it together when I get a weekend. And yeah, wifi adapters are excelent!
@@JustinDoesTriathlon I know Philips Hue has a software option which is free to download and super easy to setup - not used other brands but I think they are much the same
I don't really run this setup anymore, but what you want to do is have TrainerRoad connected to your pedals (ideally with bluetooth,) and then have Zwift connected via the opposite protocol, and make sure that Zwift is set to not control the trainer. Basically then TR runs the erg mode and Zwift just 'sees' the power you're making!
Nicely done. Suggest adding a desk in front of your bike for fluids, nutrition, mobile device with Zwift Companion app, .... (I built my own with a 24" monitor on a VESA boom mount and the larger display mounted above and on a back wall). Also, mounted my rear fan on the wall behind me blowing down onto my back
I definitely might, that's a good idea. Right now the window sill is doing double duty on all that; I've also kicked around the idea of mounting a few bottle cages into the wall. Smart idea with the wall fan, I'm thinking of adding another lasko above both screens on a smart plug switch. If I did the desk I'd basically have to; that's the one problem with low floor mounted fans on a tri bike--your hands in aero block a lot of the wind.
@@JustinDoesTriathlon Yes, my bike is an Aero Road, therefore, not the same problem. As mentioned, I built my own desk with a pair of waterbottle holes built into the desk plus a bluetooth soundbar immediately below the boom mount. the top of the desk is level to the dropbars, therefore, I have a top accessible deep drawer to place miscellaneous items in at any time above the front tire. Also on the desk is a power strip charging everything including USB devices.
I have! I've actually looked into building one on the linear bearings, and it doesn't look too difficult for me. Could be a fun little project. Most of my riding is relatively steady-state in aero, so I might not get as much benefit as a road bike rider doing Zwift racing, but yeah, might be a fun winter project at some point. 👍
That's a great idea. I also think I need to get an intake/exhaust fan with my window. Even with the window fully open and two fans on full, it heats up (and I'm sure humidifies) in just 60-90 min of effort.
have you changed the layout or wanted to change the layout since you made it? I'm in the middle of figuring out how I might want to set up Zwift. Never used it before but I want to start it on the right track.
Apple TV no need for a dedicated expensive gaming machine. Absolutely correct per tv angle as I have mine set a bit lower than yours and also at an angle. Apple TV is hooked up by Ethernet to a powerline adapter (no wi fi). Bluetooth and wi fi use 2.4ghz though. I was running Zwift companion via wi fi whilst having headphones also connected to my iPhone on Bluetooth. Result was that Zwift companion ran badly. Switched to 5GHZ and not much difference. Not too bothered tbh as the game/training platform runs with the wired connection via Apple TV
I'm a sucker for good graphics, and also need the PC for streaming down the road, but ApplyTV is a great plug-and-go option for sure. I've also had bluetooth/wifi problems. When my computer is controlling the trainer by BT, can't use BT headphones at all (They're super garbled and ccut in and out).
Pretty cool set up. I have been thinking abt some tiltable tv vs my laptop but still havent pull the plug. A bit jelous of your set up. A few questions: 1. What do you think abt the Kick Core? Thinking abt changing my Tacx Vortex to a drive one but still debating if its a “need” vs more of a want 2. How do you overlay TrainerRoad on Zwift. I havent been able to yet maybe Im missing something. Thanks!
I really like it quite a lot! I'm really hyper-supportive of anything that makes the experience better that increases the chances of you getting on the bike and doing the workout. 1) I like the Core quite a lot overall. I did have some minor problems with it relating to signal when I lived in an apt, but moving to a house has cleared it up. I was getting spotty performance when I was surrounded by all that wifi. Other than that, it’s quite good. I did a video a few months back called something like “are smart trainers worth it?” It’s a little less relevant to you though because you’ve already got a smart trainer. I haven’t owned a smart, wheel-on trainer, but I’ve got LOTS of hours in my old Kurt Kinetic. I’d say that you’ll have a better, quieter, smoother experience on the Core, but I understand your question about worth. It does seem like quite a lot of $$$ when you already have erg and such. I’d say: Do you have a power meter for outdoors? If not, I’d probably get one of those first (depending on the type of riding you do). I think, all around, a direct drive is ‘better’ than a wheel on, yes. 2) There’s a button in TR for it! Using the desktop, in a workout, bottom right of the screen, there are some arrows pointing to each other. Click it, and TR goes to the bottom of the screen and the workout text overlays in the middle of the screen. It’s an AWESOME feature and I use it all the time.
@@JustinDoesTriathlon wow nice! I havent seen that button for 2. For 1. I have some Favero Assioma and love them for outdoor either on my Tri or Road bike. But yeah, since my trainer is smart, the question is more about feature, worth it on the feel and usability. The main reason Im considering a change is mainly bc I have used many tyres and it gets tiring chaning tube and tyre in a regular basis. I also had. Kurt before and loved it and then got the Vortex for the Power on it but it has been very glitchy over the last 4 years and thus why last year I pulled the plug on the power pedals and got me thinking now on a direct drive, maybe for this Black Friday :) Thanks for answering. Good to see that you not only post but also take care of your viewers
@@EnriqueValenzuelaPhillips Heck yeah! I'm always happy to nerd out about it. Yeah that's funny that your experience got worse after the Kurt. Similarly, I had a good experience on the kurt; my tires always lasted a LONG time, it was quiet, etc. Sounds like your experience on the Vortex is less positive. Since you've got the pedals, I could see a DD being a nice move up!
Good call for sure. I kicked around the idea of putting down rubber gym mats everywhere, and I might still do that. Will see if I can keep my mess in one place. Looooong term I might just put down hard flooring in general (something like LVP), but I think I'd still want a rubber surface on top of that anyway, so maybe not. And yeah! The low screen is probably my favorite part.
@@JustinDoesTriathlon I put down maple floors in my house and I regret it. Even though it's tougher than oak, it still dents. The fake wood stuff is flexible and it won't dent as easily to extreme point loads caused by ignorant or non-observant occupants. I regret doing anything but tile. People think it's fancy having hardwood floors, and it feels pretty nice under foot, but I don't care about their opinions much. I care about products that last generations without needing work.
Fantastic setup! I tried TR in the past but got back on the bike again with Zwift. Didn't even realise you could run them in parallell. Great idea! Do you have a video where you talk more about that?
No video, but it's generally relatively easy. The rub sort of depends on your hardware as you need two sources of data. I connect my trainer to my computer by both bluetooth and ANT. Open Zwift first, connect your trainer, but then deselect "Controllable". Then open Trainerroad and connect. Basically Zwift thinks you've got a dumb trainer / power meter, and TR controls erg mode! It works pretty well. I then use the overlay button in tr (bottom right) to shrink it to the bottom of the screen. Another option if you have connectivity limits is to connect TR to your computer and then pair your trainer to Zwift using the companion app. There are a few ways of doing things and it depends on your setup, but you can get it going!
@@JustinDoesTriathlon Great, now I know how to do it. Will see if I sign up for TR again to up my progress a bit. Thanks again for sharing your awesome cave.
Yeah, you're right, or something to improve my KB situation in general. I usually leave it on the shelf, and it works pretty well, but not great. With my fan location, a desk would block some of the air though. I think I'll end up eventually adding yet another fan over the screens too. I am a huge proponent of having ALL the air you can.
So I've heard, but for the same money, I could get like 5 Lasko blowers. I just can't justify it. The HR control is neat, but I keep my fans at full all the time anyway, so it's a bit moot for me. I'm already fully dry as is. But yeah, people seem to like them.
@@JustinDoesTriathlon yeah, the price is ridiculous, I got lucky and got it half price. The HR control is indeed pretty neat, and another thing that is also pretty neat is that you don't have to turn it on or off. You just get on the bike, and it detects your HRM and turns on by itself.
Justin, two questions. - Can you tell me name or otherwise help me find that adjustable TV stand. Really like that. - Have you thought about Sterzo? Any thoughts on it? Gimmick or cool? Thanks.
It's in the video description! Re sterzo, not for me. I heard a lot of issues when it launched (though apparently it's better now?) But generally I just don't find it interesting. Zwift if basically background filler for me. I don't really get super into Zwift enough to care about steering etc. I could see it being neat ish for some racing, but I think it needs more work. I'd save my money for now
They're actually really cheap safety glasses. I have really sensitive eyes and if I don't have some glasses on, the wind from the fan gets super uncomfortable. Same thing outside; I can't even ride my cruiser without glasses on. They get double duty because I use them running in dusk to stop bugs in my eyes
Great setup. I've never connected a computer to a TV...is the one computer tower controlling both TV's? So both Zwift and TR running on the computer, and two HDMI cables going out to the TV's? Dual monitor setting somewhere in windows? And the one ANT sensor will provide data to both Zwift and TR at once? Thx!!!
Yeah you pretty much nailed it. Most graphics cards have multiple outputs. I have two cables from my computer, one to each TV. Windows automatically handles multiple displays. Then yeah, TR and Zwift together. Here is a great link from Tariq showing you how to run them together ( th-cam.com/video/M6L1IMuG6BI/w-d-xo.html ) I run both BT and ANT+. I open TR first, connect to my trainer, then open Zwift, and connect, and disconnect Controllable. TR controls the trainer, and the trainer also reports a wattage to Zwift. It sounds a bit convoluted, but once you get it set up, super easy
You bet! pcpartpicker.com/user/justinhorne/saved/#view=TpmFgs That PSU is fine but I bought when things were SUPER hard to get, so you might be able to do better now. I think a 1650 is the best bang for the buck, but I went 1660 Super because I needed the streaming abilities + RTX Voice. Also, I don't love the K400 keyboard. The trackpad is very meh on it, but it's good enough for what it gets used for. Overall, I'm pretty darn happy with the build. The parts I'd really encourage you to stick with (unless things have changed in the past few months) are the 9400f and mobo. Great CPU for Zwift. You can also buy a cheaper case.
@@JustinDoesTriathlon Amazing! Thanks so much for the tips! Yeah just thinking of putting something together as the old MacBook sounds like it's going to take off on morning. Thanks!
That's clever thinking and designing a 'pain cave' like in my dreams. So happy for you turning your vision and wishes into reality! Would definitely do the same it our appartment would have that one extra room... good thing is: I have something extra to dream of :-)
Very, very relatable. That was 0 exaggeration about how long I've indoor training with no space and stuff, I definitely understand. It's very frustrating and takes a lot of extra time that's for sure. It's character building, at least! 😅
Thanks! Just comes down to my needs. AppleTV isn't as high quality visually as I want, and then it also limits me too much on multitasking. I run both TrainerRoad and Zwift at the same time, as well as TH-cam and/or Spotify. And then lastly, I stream from this PC (sometimes.) But ATVs are a great plug and play all in one little solution, for sure! They're nice, just not for my needs.
Cool setup. Definitely upgrading my fan to what you mention there- thanks! Curious to know if you’re using TR plans in erg while at the same time (e.g. your power is transmitting to both apps simultaneously) riding in zwift for the scenery? Or are you riding in zwift in erg while simply seeing TR plan tick by and trying to hold the power on your own in zwift? Thanks!
Yeah more fans are always the move! And yep, you got it. TR is connected to my pedals and trainer via bluetooth, and adjusts the trainer using powermatch from the numbers reported by the pedals (so the numbers are consistent inside and outside. And then the pedals are connected via ANT to Zwift so Zwift gets the power data. Honestly, I'm always pretty meh on Zwift. I don't dislike it, I just don't care that much about it. But, it's better than staring at the wall, and I use TR for hard-ish workouts, so watching video isn't enjoyable to me either. Shrug lol. But yeah, overall I'm about as happy as can be for sitting on a hamster wheel.
@@mattfreeman2952 Yeah! It works pretty well. I use Zwift connected via ANT+ (being sure to disconnect the 'controllable trainer' part of the Zwift pairing screen) and then TR using Bluetooth in erg mode. I don't personally engage a ton with Zwift and don't really intend to do a review on it (I don't think there's anything left to be said,) but it's juuuuust engaging enough to give me something to look at during TR. But I've used TR by itself for 9+mos and it's okay. It's kinda like swimming though: lots of time staring at a line
TR user as well and very nice setup. I have a space now but moving soon and will take some stuff you have like your angled tv's setup. Can you post the parts on the description of the desktop setup? I am building a dedicated one soon.
yeah! If you're just going pc purely for TR you can get away with almost nothing really. I pushed the specs up a bit for Zwift as well as streaming. My build is an i5 9400f (Warning, this cpu requires a dedicated GPU). Zwift doesn't really care about lots of cpu cores, but rather it demands high clock speed. The 9400f turbos to 4.1ghz. GPU is an MSI 1660Super. Overkill for Zwift, but again, streaming + running two screens at 4k ultra, + the 1660 Super supports NVidia's RTX voice (streaming thing for improved audio quality from your mic.). 240gb Kingston SSD (honestly just pick the cheapest really.) The mobo is a MSI PRO Z390-A PRO LGA 1151. 16gb G.Skill Ripjaws V ram (8 is probably fine.) Don't get the power supply in the video (Corsair CX-M 450.) It ended up being faulty after two days. I exchanged it for an EVGA G3 550w. PSU prices are crazy high right now, but it is what it is. Case is a Fractal Design Meshify C; it was nice to build in. Hope that helps!
JustinDoesTriathlon thanks and built many computers in my day but been a while. I use TR and Zwift in background and dabble with flugaz every now and then as I share a yearly with with my sister in law. Was going to get the 1660 super as well. Have a microcenter in my area so will go there as it is down the street and better prices than amazon usually.
@@EricB03 Oh nice! Yeah the 1660 Super is a really nice card. I think the 1650 does very well in Zwift as well especially when paired with a good CPU. I've got two 1660Super (One MSI, one Gigabyte) and I prefer the MSI fwiw. Silent except under medium/high load. Good little card.
@@timvanmonero2720 Personally I'd go 55 or stay at 1080 43. I don't think the res change is massive, but more res + larger screen would be a nice move.
@@JustinDoesTriathlon thanks, good recommendation. i'm just not sure if i can justify 400/500 EUR for a new 55" TV. i literally just bought a 85" one. and i also bought an overpriced apartment in amsterdam. let's see what i can afford at the end of the month :D
Ooh, that's a good question. Pros and cons to both really….PC offers better graphics (though I don’t think it’s a huge deal when you’re really working out.) PC is much better for running more things at once (Spotify, TrainerRoad, TH-cam, etc.) PC offers more bluetooth / ant connections. PC if good if you want to stream, etc. Con: PC is much more expensive. ATV pros are basically all ease and reliability. It’s basically pure plug-n-play, requires no drivers, is much smaller and cheaper, and just generally a more contained all-in-one. So I don’t think one is necessarily better than the other, it just comes down to what you’re looking to get out of it.
Apple tv you are restricted to 1 app at a time. With a computer it is more versatile and can mirror more depending on the graphics card and how many video outs you have.
Wow that's all very cool, so I have a question and I've been searching Facebook for help. I have my road bike I used hooked up to a MAG trainer with the speed sensor and cadence sensor plugged onto the bike, it works okay but the fastest I go in zwift is 15 mph went out in the real world I'm doing 22 bursting to 25 any idea why? How can I improve this and what TV do you have that accepts Bluetooth equipment like this
I'm kicking around the idea of CNCing one. I haven't ever found trainers uncomfortable but it might be a fun winter project to add to the pile. Thanks!
@@JustinDoesTriathlon I agree, I’m okay for a couple hours on a trainer.. but I like the idea of strengthening my stabilizer muscles during my indoor workouts, I too wanted to make my own, so I’d be very interested in watching your build!
@@TriDaddy Mayyyyybe Ill have to then. I have to pick up some plywood for another project anyway... I'm easily persuaded 🤣I'd go the linear rod bearing route
i have the feeling it is better to get all your fan's in the same direction to get a big flow. facing them in opposit directions sometimes gives me the feeling you result with 0, if you understand what I wanna say :D but super cool setup! love the 2 big screens!
Haha, oh hey Victor! Been watching your stuff for years! I watched the hour record live. Wild stuff. Thanks for chiming in. 🙌
This is literally what I want! Simple, tidy and effective. Hopefully it doesn't take me 10 years lol.
I certainly hope it doesn't take you a decade either! I don't recommend waiting if you don't have to 😅🤣
Same 😂
Love the idea of the lower mounted TV
Nothing is overkill if it gets me on the bike in the morning. Thank you for posting this!!!
It’s not overkill, it’s great setup :)
Great setup, well done! You should consider adding a shallow shelf below the window for you to put your keyboard, phone, water, etc on during your rides.
Must feel nice after 10 years hoping for a pain cave of your own. Enjoy it man. Looks great! I agree on tv position for indoor training.
Thanks, I sure do! Yeah, it's been a LONG time with some pretty hilariously terrible setups. Taking my trainer to the gym wasn't terrible, but running it indoors or in parking garages was pretty bad.
I appreciate that! I'm super happy with it. Enjoy the core and climb!
Very well done indeed, if you’re going to do it once then do it right after planning which you have done. Enjoy, trust this will inspire others to setup whatever they’ve been meaning to put together. I have the same core unit, kickr climb in transit to complete what I want to have. Thanks for the upload!
I disagree that this is overkill, I think it's awesome.
That has to be the best set up I've seen so far, and the best part, it's less $$ than a Peloton. I really like the way you set up the lower TV monitor to give realism to your ride. I am going to do just that. Much mahalo!!!
Sweet setup! I like to have a table for snacks, remote controls, Kleenex, etc. for long rides.
Big callout for me would be the Logi touchpad / keyboard mount, that's a great idea. tri-bars look to be the perfect keyboard mount.
Don’t know why I just came into this video. Setup is so well done and not overkill at all. Well done 👍🏼
Thanks Tariq! I'm super happy with it. Funny enough, excluding the bike, but including the trainer, computer, and everything else, it's still way less than the cost of a Peloton. Funny how that works!
Love the tip on the PC build
Painted a whole room & built a CPU, along with a kick ass pain room setup. Kudos!
Thanks man!
That paint color is great! I also liked that you had to wear sunglasses, in the dark, with those two TVs. 🤣
The lower mounted tv is a good call.
I love this set up and have copied it for my own 👍🏻👍🏻
Just spectacular Justin! I have a nice little dedicated space that in functional for me, but yours is next level+!!!
Thanks Jackie, appreciate it! Lucky to have it for sure
Hook up your fans, lights & music to Alexa👍 I’ve done this and it’s awesome. I have a total of 3 fans that are all controlled separately from Alexa.
looks like its a lil private room long story short fun looking setup🤙
Could you provide a list and links to the components of the computer you built. Thanks
Cant go wrong with Battle Ship Gray . Or grey for our friends in Europe 😊
How much did the PC .build set you back? Do you have a list of the detailed specs? Thanks!
"People mount their displays too high" "You should mimick the outdoor position indoors"
I completely disagree, it's way too easy to strain your back outdoors.
Very true. I think the real takeaway is: you should be comfortable indoors and out. 👍
Love the setup. A shallow shelf next to you is a must. You should also consider a nice set of speakers for some music.
That's awesome! Yeah, up here it'll get dark ~ 1600; brutal. Enjoy!
WOW. Amazing setup. Some great tips there, especially the height of the screen and position of the fans. I’m looking to do a similar setup
Speakers would be great as I find some workouts I can't be bothered sweating all over my headphones and they can get uncomfortable on long rides
One thing about windows, the primary screen will always have better font sharpness. Primary display for zwift. Feels immersive and unreal.
Maybe you should also consider to buy mobile airco for hot summer days? It doesn't cost much but will help you a lot
Great idea with the whole set up. Love to see how much thought you put into it
Thanks Dylan! Happy with it. Now I just need a full strength and treadmill setup. Time to open a gym. 🤣
Awesome setup! Having a dedicated space is such a blessing.
It's huge. Especially on those days where you aren't really in the mood, having to setup and tear down all my gear was really annoying and led to some skipped workouts. Now I have no excuses!
@@JustinDoesTriathlon you nailed it. Having excuses makes it more difficult. No excuses here. Keep it up!
@@JustinDoesTriathlon I know Philips Hue has a software option which is free to download and super easy to setup - not used other brands but I think they are much the same
I was hoping for a build list but this is great. Plans to use a spin bike for this setup rather than my bike. Awesome stuff
I'll try to put together a PCPartPicker list tonight 👍
@@JustinDoesTriathlon nice...thanks
Thoughts on a spin bike vs peleton or wahoo or neo??
I haven't used the Wahoo or the neo bikes. In general what's your use case? I think an argument could be made for any of those.
Great job Justin! Enjoy!
Thanks Mark! I sure am! It's crazy how much more enjoyable and easy it is to just hop on for 30 minutes on a whim
Hey Justin, your setup is awesome. Could you please let me know how do you run Zwift and Trainerroad at the same time?
I don't really run this setup anymore, but what you want to do is have TrainerRoad connected to your pedals (ideally with bluetooth,) and then have Zwift connected via the opposite protocol, and make sure that Zwift is set to not control the trainer. Basically then TR runs the erg mode and Zwift just 'sees' the power you're making!
Dope setup.
That sounds awesome!

Nice job man. Love the set up. Keep it up.
Thanks Daniel! I'm really liking it.
How good is this... but what is the thing called that makes it hardwired?? Cheers
Its not for everyone but have you thought about a rockingboard? (Or sprintboard)
Absolutely love the setup!! The dual screen, with the lowest one on a tilt is perfect. I may have to steal that idea. lol
#RobbArmstrong
Do it!
Justin can you list the computer, chip and adapter you used for the hardwire connection please.
NICE setup. my own is definitely not as cool but I would definitely recommend a dehumidifier.
That's a great idea. I also think I need to get an intake/exhaust fan with my window. Even with the window fully open and two fans on full, it heats up (and I'm sure humidifies) in just 60-90 min of effort.
@@JustinDoesTriathlon If you haven't done it already, do note that air conditioners also de-humidify the air
Look very nice 💪🏼
have you changed the layout or wanted to change the layout since you made it?
I'm in the middle of figuring out how I might want to set up Zwift. Never used it before but I want to start it on the right track.
loving it!
Impressive!!!
When my computer is controlling the trainer by BT, can't use BT headphones at all (They're super garbled and ccut in and out).
nice setup
Pretty cool set up. I have been thinking abt some tiltable tv vs my laptop but still havent pull the plug. A bit jelous of your set up.
A few questions:
1. What do you think abt the Kick Core? Thinking abt changing my Tacx Vortex to a drive one but still debating if its a “need” vs more of a want
I also had. Kurt before and loved it and then got the Vortex for the Power on it but it has been very glitchy over the last 4 years and thus why last year I pulled the plug on the power pedals and got me thinking now on a direct drive, maybe for this Black Friday :)
Thanks for answering.
If you can lose carpet that wound be better I think, looks great though nice job. I love the low screen super smart most pros do that too!!!!
@@JustinDoesTriathlon Stall mats from tractor supply work great and are cheap also.
Some maple is tougher than oak. Some is much softer. - from my experience woodworking.@@JustinCrediblename
what you said at 7:45 to 8:00. spot on justindoestriathlon. something I needed to do.
100% for me too.
Looks great! 👍🏽
you need a rolling desk for that keyboard.
You should consider a wahoo fan. It’s a game changer
I'd save my money for now
Really awesome setup! Very helpful for me as in process of doing my own one...I noticed you wear glasses when training. Is it to protect from tv glow?
It sounds a bit convoluted, but once you get it set up, super easy
haha, very cool!
Hey Justin. Do you happen to have a PCPartPicker list or something similar to what you built up in the PC? Thanks!
You bet! pcpartpicker.com/user/justinhorne/saved/#view=TpmFgs
That PSU is fine but I bought when things were SUPER hard to get, so you might be able to do better now.
Thanks!
@@JustinDoesTriathlon actually parts are even harder to come by now. Video cards especially
cute puppy
He's the best!
Hey there, awesome setup !
I’m new to this game and I love how your keyboard is on the bars
What handle bars are you running on your bike? 🙏🏽
Heyo! Those are the stock Felt bars. I think it's the Bayonet 3. Fairly adjustable.
Thanks mate 🙏🏽
That's clever thinking and designing a 'pain cave' like in my dreams. So happy for you turning your vision and wishes into reality! Would definitely do the same it our appartment would have that one extra room... good thing is: I have something extra to dream of :-)
Very, very relatable. That was 0 exaggeration about how long I've indoor training with no space and stuff, I definitely understand. It's very frustrating and takes a lot of extra time that's for sure. It's character building, at least! 😅
Nice build man !
But why don't you use apple TV / Chromecast instead of PC ?
Can you do some follow up videos with workout please?
I've got a TrainerRoad video that will hopefully be up very soon. :)
@@JustinDoesTriathlon perfect! Would be interesting to see overlaying trainer road and zwift
@@JustinDoesTriathlon great setup 👍 definitely makes training easier to be motivated for
TR user as well and very nice setup.
JustinDoesTriathlon why 2 1660 supers??
@@EricB03 Sorry, wasn't clear; in another computer.
Which TV mount are you using for the lowe one?
beautiful!
Put it to good use this morning! 🙂
@@JustinDoesTriathlon i have a 1080p 43" and i'm really thinking now about getting a 4k 43" or even 55" :/
@@timvanmonero2720 Personally I'd go 55 or stay at 1080 43.
Brilliant setup. Do you recommend a PC setup instead of Apple TV?
With a computer it is more versatile and can mirror more depending on the graphics card and how many video outs you have.
how did ypu place 2 TVs on that TV stand? looks for one only, and I love the idea
Floor stand has the bottom one, standard wall mount on the second 👍
Sweet!!!
How can I improve this and what TV do you have that accepts Bluetooth equipment like this
Legit the space is the hard part for me.
Oh yeah, I had to wait a decade to make it happen. Relatable.
Yeah you have a dream setup
Nice work! I’d like a saris platform to add movement to my trainer.
I'm kicking around the idea of CNCing one. I haven't ever found trainers uncomfortable but it might be a fun winter project to add to the pile. Thanks!
@@JustinDoesTriathlon I agree, I’m okay for a couple hours on a trainer.. but I like the idea of strengthening my stabilizer muscles during my indoor workouts,
I too wanted to make my own, so I’d be very interested in watching your build!
@@TriDaddy Mayyyyybe Ill have to then. I have to pick up some plywood for another project anyway... I'm easily persuaded 🤣I'd go the linear rod bearing route
Ah hell you convinced me. I'm ordering parts tonight. 🤣
Awesome
What’s the product for the tv mount? Can’t find it
