    I would never buy that simply because I have no use for it. That being said, $120 US isn't all that bad considering the absolute BLOCK of metal that you are getting. It looks pretty much indestructible. Also the fit and finish looks quite nice. You'll just have to maintain the blade a lot.

  • @j.savage1228

    AUS-8 really isn't bad steel when it's ran at the high end of it's hardness range. Katsu has a 15% discount if you take some emails from them so the final price for this is about right for that tank of a blade.

  • @JacobE-23

    Honestly, I dont think 120 is a bad price for that. Decent steel and nice quality, fit and finish. Nice sheath. Nice modern interpretation of a cool old japanese style knife (which i still like the old style better). It looks like a good multi-tasking camp knife.

    Based on Joe-X's testing, him and his fans nicknamed AUS-8 a "super steel", because it is the steel that takes his style of abuse better than anything else, including AUS-10. So, it actually might be a desirable steel in a "bush" knife like this.

    • @acid6urns

      well… obviously it takes abuse better than aus10. aus10 is a higher carbon and higher chromium steel that is a modified 440c, it’s not meant to be a tough steel

    Like most of the other comments have said 120 bucks for this is a pretty fair price. Not a killer deal but not unreasonable for thick slab of AUS8 and pretty good fit and finish

  • @ix8750

    I saw them when I ordered my first katsu folder but I had to pass since im pretty good on fixed blades. 120$ seems fine to me as long as it can preform, my 5.5 inch fixed cold steel was like 260$

    I bought one for $90 shipped. Waiting for it to arrive.

  • @bornonthebattlefront4883

    With Katsu’s fit and finish
    I’d say 120$ is competitive
    The next closest thing from like Civivi or others would be around 150$
    Yeah it’s made of 9cr18 or nitro V, both of which are better then AUS 8 (at least IMO, and are more premium for sure)
    But this is still a good throngler

  • @hificat101

    I dont think 120 is bad for a knife in more budget steel of that size and fit and finish. But like you, fixies arent my jam (but that new Quiet Carry MARQ is pretty sweet).

    • @ix8750
      @ix8750 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My brother owns a Marq he loves it and carries it in a sheathe on his backpack everywhere.

    It’s 2024, my man. You can’t get much for under $100 these days. Thats certainly not a crazy expensive price for this. The fit and finish alone look great. Also, looks really comfortable.

    • @GBall_Vision
      @GBall_Vision หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You can go get extremely solid fixed blades from Ruike, Eafengrow, Off Grid, Joker and more for under $100 in better steels. The knife is nice looking though

    I’ve got the Katsu vg10 folder with a zero convex blade, it’s very well done, I wish it had a pocket clip, but it comes with a high quality leather sheath, I’m thinking about ordering the titanium frame lock with layered zdp-189 convex blade, it’s $250 after discount code, it’s like a budget Rockstead.

  • @loganmurphy3374

    Ya know, you can call every blade shape a modified sheepsfoot if you put enough emphasis on "modified"

  • @realbroggo

    Love everything about it, except the price. Like MC I accept that it appears to have an amount of hand finishing & is well made but in 2024 that cannot make up for the steel choice of AUS-8 (which is approx. 8CR & 440B in terms of performance). It's not that AUS-8 is a 'bad' steel - as long as the price is right. Unlike MC I would probably be prepared to pay up to US$100 (although I would like to see some use testing first), over that sorry there's too much else out there offering much better. Sharp blades all.

    fit and finish low quality production if you cant get the bolster pins to blend with the bolsters.

  • @larrycampbell7442

    You made me look. I stopped some time ago because so much of yours specifically is unreal $$$’s so I had to see what kind of brick and how many digits to the left of the decimal point. At least it was a fixed blade instead of another $500+ folder that looks like two dozen others

  • @fopdoodle777

    That thing looks pretty big.. and the blade stock is chunky... and the fit and finish looks pretty good. 119 might be a bit high, but I definitely would expect it to be more than 50 dollars... probably would have guessed 89-99.

    I don’t know if I can bring myself to pay $120 for AUS8. Even if the size and manufacturing costs make it worth that, I just couldn’t do it. I’d rather pay $200 for the same thing in a slightly better steel. Probably cause every knife I’ve owned in AUS8 has managed to piss me off lol. but that is a huge chunk of metal, so the price doesn’t actually seem that bad.

      Japanese designed, China made. Some knives of better premium steels are heat treated in Japan, finished in China. From what I could gather from a quick Google search.
