This is Beethoven played the way it was played in his time. No gigantic cast of thousands orchestra. Love the period appropriate instruments too. The Second Movement gave me chills up and down my spine just like it did when I first heard it when I was 13 years old. Thank you for making this available to enjoy. Jordi Savall is without a doubt my very favorite musician and conductor. He is such a treasure! ❤️🎵
@@DWClassicalMusicmay I try with the assistant of a talented trained conductor? That's my problem. I am self taught and conducted Ai my entire life by accident
Some critics at the time Beethoven composed this symphony wrote that he must have been drunk when he wrote the final movement. A pity then that he wasn't drunk more often - a more glorious , riotous , uplifting piece of music i have rarely heard.
Something special here! Easy to get cynical as in Beethoven...again. But when it's played like this, with fire and passion , it's just irresistible! Thankyou Jordi and the orchestra ,thankyou Ludwig , and thankyou for posting !
Gently putting to one side - momentarily - the performance, I'm very impressed with way Maestro Savall so generously includes the whole orchestra in the ovation. That said, I think it's one of the best renditions of this piece I have ever heard. My thanks to whoever posted this!
Isn’t this fun to see? As a professional musician (cellist) I’m frankly leery of orchestras that look super serious throughout a performance. The musicians should be encouraged to enjoy themselves as they’re playing. When they look like they’re having a good time playing the audience picks up on that positive energy which in turn makes listening to the music more enjoyable. It’s a win-win experience for everyone!😊🎵
Thanks DW for this wonderful Beethoven piece, I been playing piano when i was six and I always love the Beethoven symphony 7 mvmt ii and I played it when i was like 10 and now I’m a advanced piano player, I also play the Bb clarinet since 4th grade and I just wanna give a round of applause for Jordi Savall and his group for playing this symphony of Beethoven and in the future when I grow up I wanna play in a famous orchestra like this one.
This performance is superb. Modern interpretations of Beethoven seem to rush with ridiculous tempi through his compositions but Savall's interpretation is absolutely perfect!
Very fast rendition, and awesome recording. There are so many audible detaisl I never heard bevore. And this so refreshing to watch. Look at all these happy faces, everybody is smiling, maestro is on point, and concertmaster goes heavy metal. Great, just great.
I listen to this music, and I suddenly fell me into an atmosphere of faith and joy. And Savall can lead equally a baroque settlement as a romantic orchestra: the lone he needs is a genial partiture.
Savall has branched out into the early romantic works. Check out his recording of Mendelssohn’s incidental music to “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. I can’t help but think that Mendelssohn would be thrilled to have such a spectacular interpretation of his wonderful music available to listeners everywhere.
La grandeza de Beethoven en su expresión musical es lograr plasmar una composición que denota momentos de dificultad, reflexión y encuentro con manifestación de alegría por comprender y superar esa dificultad.
There is a beautiful melody beginning at 6:20 of the 1st movement which is best for a dance . May choreographers listen and compose a beautiful dance on it .
❤ This is by far my favourite Beethoven's symph The Apotheose of Dance I first heard it on the film Isadora with Vanessa Redgrave And that was it Thank you ❤
as a classical music lover among all these bul•••t plays in my generation specifically living in Afghanistan, this Beethoven play enjoys me alot specially this one which i find something unique.
Jordi Savall’s interpretation of Beethoven's symphony aimed to bring out a more lyrical and expressive dimension of the work. He employed rubato to add nuanced emotional depth, allowing the music to breathe and flow naturally. Through legato phrasing, Savall ensured that the lines were smooth and connected, providing the symphony with a singing quality. His focus on dynamic shading, with subtle crescendi and diminuendi, sought to convey the wide range of emotions inherent in Beethoven's composition. In key lyrical passages, Savall emphasized cantabile playing, incorporating vibrato to add warmth, while carefully adjusting the timbre across orchestral sections to create an intimate atmosphere. His attention to phrasing shaped the musical narrative effectively, and his meticulous balancing of the orchestral forces ensured that the key motifs emerged poignantly. While interpretations can certainly be subjective, Savall’s approach aimed for an interpretation that embraced both technical precision and emotional engagement, true to the spirit of Beethoven’s expressive genius.
Is that Steve King the author wearing the glasses playing the Violin,it would not be surprising that he would possess that capable of filling the seat as well.

I am sorry to have to write this message but the first comment here is the only one that differs from all others. Does he really enjoy classic music? Would he do it better?
PS to what I wrote below. I knew the first horn player of the Scottish National Orchestra and he said he preferred the purer tone of the valveless horn to the modern ones, though complex horn parts made the valves often necessary.
This sounds much light, warm and soft to me. Feminine rather than masculine, and I feel like I’m in the binary digital world. During listening around 8minutes. I don’t know why.
The performance is not as bad as you say. By the way, the strings are modern because they haven’t changed since Beethoven’s day-when was Stradivarius producing his masterpieces? But the whole idea of trying to reproduce “authentic” period performances is flawed to the core, especially the use of little or no tremolo in the strings. But I quite enjoyed this rendition.

You are right! This is a discreet secret concert. May I have a chance in an orchestra like this? I can drive a string in strange ways.

Mostly on period instruments, too! Gives a completely different feel to this symphony. Sounds excellent!

Un bel modo di eseguire Beethoven senza esagerazioni ritmiche dinamiche.

I had only listened to Jordi Savall conducting older music (which he is great at), I wasn't aware how good he is with "newer" stuff.

I have never seen a wood color clarinet in A and a fagott (bassoon) before but now I seen it in this video
Because they are period instrument.

Great performance especially with period instruments. Also at 34:10 a stunningly beautiful violist in the back!
It's not Spanish-Catalan, a combination of nationalities, as read in your description. It's Spanish (Catalan), a clarification.

He looks a lot like Leonardo di Caprio !

The rhythm in the first movement is played incorrectly (as is the case most of the time in this piece).

String section is really bothering. Unstable tempo and orchestra is definitely not playing together. It’s hard to finish listening.
