    Excellent video . You guys should be getting paid by the Irish tourist board. You really promote the water ways. Fair play to you

      Thanks for that Colin we're delighted that you enjoy the videos. Unless you're a director of the Irish tourist board I don't hold out much hope!!! But it's a very complimentary comment and thanks to you. 👍

    Thank you so much for the memory. My wife and I did this trip with another couple about 4 years ago. We went as far as Portumna with a small side trip to Ballinasloe. We are from Canada and this was probably the best vacation of our lives. We loved the pubs and the people.

    We only made it as far as Athlone last year so it's been lovely to see what we missed. Loving the drone footage as well, we got told off by another boater for using one in Athlone Marina. Excellent viewing, thanks Harry & Marion.

      Hi Chris, Ye there's loads more to see. We had to get special permission from the Army to film the marina by drone. Can't blame them, after all, they need to fly the helicopters in and out of that barracks and I wouldn't want to be responsible for bringing one of them down! Glad you enjoyed the video 👍

    I cant believe it. I live near Shannonbridge and I was there when you were mooring up. My car was the white estate park alongside you. Unfortunately it was before I discovered your channel, if so I would have came and said hello. Great videos guys keep up the great work.

    Another great video, and was great to meet you both that day and get lots of useful tips from you both. I have taken your advice and got myself a tent to bring on the boat and we had an amazing weekend 👍👍 many more to follow.

      Ah, I'm glad you enjoyed the tent bit. There is nothing quite as good as waking up in a tent especially on the river bank. Hope to bump into you again soon and glad you enjoyed the video. 👍

    You 2 are famous at this stage. You're editing is becoming top notch harry, I bet its the river suck, you're right, I've yet to cruise it, i will do in September.

    • @DriftwoodBoatBlog
      @DriftwoodBoatBlog  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you CTW I'll be feeling the pressure now to keep the editing up to standards! It's not the River Suck, it's a lovely forgotten about mooring that's not marked on any chart (least not as a mooring). And it has a bit of history to go with it as well 👍 You'll enjoy it, I hope.

    The Emerald Star 6 berth is the same as the last hire boat I was on, called the "Brosna" quite nice to sail and got as far as banagher from Portumna I think, stopped in Clonmacnoise about 3 times on different boats and just really like the river, especially around tarmonbarrow and down from the lock there.

      Yes, I've heard quite a few people speak quite highly about them and how well they handle. It is a lovely waterway, there's no doubt about that. Thanks for watching 👍

    Hello guys, really enjoy your vlogs, we are considering renting a canal boat on the Shannon river. Most rentals are single engine, do you see a challenge docking with the current in some of the marinas?

    • @DriftwoodBoatBlog
      @DriftwoodBoatBlog  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jenn, you won't have any worries about current on the Shannon navigation during the summer. The river is over 360 Km long with only six locks in its length. It's very slow flowing, especially during the summer months. As for docking, well that's always a challenge! Just approach slowly against the wind or current (whichever is the stronger). Remember any docking where no one is killed or seriously injured is a good docking! Hope you have a great holiday and enjoy the experience.

    Did I miss the video on the solar install? Thinking of doing that as a winter project myself!

      Hi Doug, those were just old ones that I had taken off to do a bit of painting and took a long time to get around to refitting them! As it turns out they're not working, so just yesterday I ordered a replacement for one of them and a new charge controller. I hope to fit it as soon as it arrives so I'll certainly video it. That should go up a few weeks after that.
