Hi Paul, there is a SI4732-Plus version out. Will you make a video of this explaining the features? I am very grateful for your videos which are very informative.
You can see at only the static nois, that the moded version has better recieve if the S-meter is correct. The best to you Paul, from LB1NH Arild, now living 50km north of Oslo. I will soon be at HF as well Paul and we will have a chat some day again. 🙂
And no serial to usb cable link for those stations . Would like to know which cable you use. I got Baofeng cable , and my quansheng k5/8 its not recognized by any software , while cable itself is recognized as CH340 serial to usb adapter. Fun where when I made compliant about station to Banggood , they responded as neither baofeng cable or new SI4732 Chip and Crystal Oscillator Component Modification Module for Quansheng UVK5/K6 are compatible with uv k5 (8) . but look at the name of new board modification I just copy paste that name from banggood . Now case is up on paypal to see as banggood fooling me around.
@@m7frs272 What? Are you kidding me? I ordered this mod thinking it would retain the walkie talkie functionality.... So it only serves as a radio to listen, but not to talk?
Can the v.2 mod pcb be fitted to the older radio ( uk5 8) running the cec firmware? , it seems likely to work considering the only real change is the addition of an extra audio amp to the top of the board.
Both different radios, besides, there is now much confusion with all these mod boards now. Version 2 with amp, and without, version 2.1 with amp, and without, some coming with the 'choke' and cap, some not? UK-K5 (8), and no one knows what to do now??? Utter confusion. Personally, I'm not interested in a second antenna, but even that is confusing. I received the brown board yesterday, without pre amp (not that I knew about this in first place), comes with choke and caps (only 3 this time), as version 1 came with 5, and a little bit of jumper wire. No instructions, but site says to not bother with choke, nor replace cap, but why do they give you them then? - UV-K5 (8). I guess I'll bin it, and order pre-amp version now?, but as regards the UV-K5 (8), does one need the choke and have to replace the cap?
Do you know if I can install the v2.1 board into the k5 (8) using exactly the same method as the k5 (99) ie, does it have the same motherboard inside, or will I have to buy a (99)? I have a k5(8) Thanks very much.
I see you already answered this in another of my questions, sorry. And thank you very much for your help! You are helping a lot of people here! I'm sure Karma will visit you very soon. In a good way!
So. I just got a Baofeng / Quansheng UV-K6 wannabe... watched all the utube videos I could find to update, upgrade, unlock or mod... but nothing yet 😕 But Maybe....I've found out a back door! I tried all the button combinations, and have found...Something. There seems to be a special sequence that got me there. Now if somebody can pick it up and run more deep research, we can get to the next step.
@@Touchatout59 Thank you Bro! So, are you saying, it doesn't worth (new PCB board, soldering + new firmware)? Maybe just a new firmware, and that's it? Thnx
@@PureAwareness76 ah no sorry, I thought it was the video with the modified antenna. I confirm that this modification (on the video) is essential for good reception. I was talking about putting the second antenna; it improves reception but not significantly (I'm talking about my tests)
I can't help but wonder why anyone would want to buy a Transceiver...pay out more cash...then mod it so you can no longer use it as a Transceiver. Remember cheap though it may be you are still paying extra for features you will render useless....there's gotta be a better alternative than paying twice to wreck a rig surely. Anyone agree ?
The modification only replaced the chip that was originally used for FM reception with a chip that can receive shortwave and FM. After the modification, the VHF/UHF transceiver function and FM reception function are still valid, and the FM sensitivity is also improved. This modification is absolutely worth the money.

There is also CEC firmware for unmodified hw - I wonder if that makes any difference vs IJV firmware?
Always enjoy your videos Paul. Thanks for putting out such great content. 73 from Missouri, USA
Excellent effort, thank you, Professor Paul👍👍👍

did we watch the same video? lol there was much more data and dynamic range of audio (read "full" audio") in the modded version
What do you think about that it is not filtered? Would it be legal to use as an Amateur operator?
As always, good stuff!
For HF ,definitely HW moded CEC works better - For UHF/VHF IJV is superb.
Well worth modding. Wish it had a usb c port for better more stable firmware upload.
I have the last firmware from IVJ but I dont have this RX level. I dont hear anything in CB band
Depends on antenna or current radio propagations
How is 40m and 80m reception
Why disconnect the original antenna instead of just modifying the sma to a Bnc?

Good demonstration Paul, Hopefully the mod board with the amplifier I've ordered should arrive tomorrow 🤞 Keep up the great videos 👍 73

What bands can you transmit on with the mod amplifier board?
@@cloudstrife5209 None, it's a receive only modification.

@@alvarogvdltgarcia52 The mod uses the FM receiver part of the radio so you can still transmit & receive on VHF & UHF as normal.
What model of hand held radio can I buy " off the shelf" that's as good as the modified one ?

Yes, it can. I have just done it exactly as you have described and it works really well.
what is the antenna used for HF on the modded radio?

Please look for the recent video on my channel about this mod. and instructions "how to"
Does it have PMR ? is air band a lot better ? and is the already modded one from ali xpress as good as yours ? thankyou
The ATT was showing on the screen. Was the attenuator on for the nodded radio?
What would it imply?

What is the best " general antenna?
Can you add the Cec firmware without having to solder anything or replace electronics inside the phone ?
Yes, but radio will freeze after you long press the "0" button.
I have found the unmodified version very disappointing in reception. Plus it picks up a lot of the FM broadcast band.
Does the mod allow you to transmit on hf?
No, RX only
definitely a better mod, thanks Paul 73'
Not much! 😂

It still functions as a VHF/UHF transceiver unless you bork the install.

Good but uneven comparison between modified and genuine HW
It’s a comparison to show the difference when you mod it.

How is it "uneven?"
Nice job!Congrats!73 de ik1bqd Silvio
