Really enjoying these videos. I have followed along and modded my K5 (8) as you have shown. Please could compare the 3 software mods available after the v2 mod?
Hi, thanks for the great video and the comparison with the Tecsun. You gave us the opportunity to realize how powerful can be after the mod This quansheng in HF mode is performing exactly like the Tecsun, very impressive. I'm ready to install the v2 modification, with the second antenna, and I need to know what exactly is your final hardware modification setup inside the radio before I il proceed. A clear picture of the board and a list of the steps for the final result one by one would be great. For example: For the second antenna setup Only. What exactly components we remove Do we remove or replace a capacitor ? And where exactly do we solder antenna terminal, positive and negative/ground cable. Thanks !
That was so cool when you showed the frequency on there and asked people to call in and actually had someone call in! You took live streaming to a whole new level. Did you look up his calling to see where he was calling from?
Thanks for the video. Do you know if I can put the v2.1 chip with preamp in my UV k5 (8)? Are these different versions of Quanshengs the same internally?
I'm still totally confused about this mod, specifically when choosing to NOT add the second antenna connector. In this scenario, what is the problem (if anything) with just screwing on a different antenna to listen to the HF bands? Is the choke and capacitor used with the V1 unnecessary with the V2 in all scenarios? Are there any written instructions on installing the V2 mod? I don't see any mention of it on the Hamskey pages. Is this an "unofficial" remix? BTW, all these radios must be approved by the FCC to be sold in the USA. Pre-hacked radios likely won't be importable from China.
I compared signals reception trough the original SMA connector and from new BNC connector which is connected directly to the V.2 board. Signals from BNC were siignificantly stronger. I presume, that there is a High Pass filter in the front end circutry of this radio which naturally attenuates HF signals from SMA connector.
They are not sold being prehacked it is the end user who does that . Bought one a week ago installed custom firmware egzumer 0.22 The radio is way better. I wont be doing this mod you can not transmit. But I don't blame other for doing this mod.
There is a company selling the UV-K5 fully modded except it is a single antenna. They claimed to have also modded it for higher gain with a single antenna. Would you know anything about this?
technicaly on the mod for the quansheng. the telescopic is nice... but in reality you could use a small piece of wire connected to a bolt or nut on the top of the radio.. you would get much different results and 32 or 64 feet of wire is not hard to run to a tree quickly...
Main reason of Telescopic antenna was to keep portability as it is portable radio. If you wish to use a wire, you can wrap the end of wire around the end of telescopic whip.
@@OM0ET I was wondering if whe can put a wire on the antenna for extension it 😉👍 New subcr & liked. Im a new ham entousiast 😂. Greetings from holland the netherlands 🇳🇱
@@n1kkri yes of course, but I ment that they would add them to radios that are already produced. New version can be made pre added and for cheap but this version is as is. Maybe they can upgrade them for us (for a small amount extra).
@@LoekBerkepies They would not need the original UV-K5 unless the modified version was for some reason to expensive. This mod makes such a dramatic difference in performance and features. My only thinking would be could the radio if the mod was not done properly not meet FCC compliance. But I doubt that would be an issue because the wires that have to be added would more than likely be etch instead of wires less likely to radiate and cause a problem. Lets face it, regardless of how many different radios they make, who is going to buy the original K5 except for someone who wants to do the mod themself. The MFG could whip this mod together apply it to the board, go through FCC certification, add lets go crazy $20 to the cost and sell them like it was the last radio on the planet.
Completely pointless if you can not transmit, The Mod is to difficult to do with not enough reward, others may love to tinker with low reward but I don't.
@@OM0ET I'm not moaning, just hate yappy dogs that people leave outside all day to just yap. I've just purchased one of these Quansheng UK-K5 so interested to learn about them to make it easier to use.I also purchased the conversion board but won't put that in until I'm ready
Thank you for comparing receivers.

You have to watch the V2 Mod.video. Check my channel 😉

@@diabolo3506 I came here to ask this. Fantastic! Thank you for the response!!
Yes, it is the same radio with different box
@@OM0ET Thank you Om0et, I apologise for getting too excited and posting the same question twice! Ignore the second question.
MiniWhip antenna is the best choice

@@OM0ET Thank you. Would an SMA socket work for the additional antenna? You said you used BNC because you didn't have SMA.

The TECSUN is better on the ears but the UV-K5 is amazing with its audio and equivalent signal strength.
Hi.! UV-K5 after the V.2 Full HF Band Mod. how many watts for the transmission?

can quansheng uv 5r plus be modified like this too
Play video in 1.25 speed !
so another question is... how does the tecsun preform if you used the same antenna that you used on the quansheng...

Seems FM Radio does not work correctly with this firmware. Some sort of DTMF search or similar going on.
You can buy with software mod but not with hardware mod and 2 nd antenna, not yet at least?
May I ask, what camera are you using to record this? I'm having trouble with the UV-K5 screen showing up on my camera.
Hey ..
What do you think about icom ic r20 is it good for receiving a signal ?
I don't have it, sry
@@OM0ET OK.. thanks for answering.
Good day

It does transmit?
Hello please who is the original firmware? before the modification , tnx
Hi Paul, where did you buy the new UV-K5?
Link is in original "V.2 modification" video description.
Can I Just connect the external antenna to the normal antenna
This is what I'm currently wondering.
Trace is interrupted during the V.2 modification. So answer is, no.
@@OM0ET Thanks!
thanks🤗
I saw some pre-modded versions on AliExpress, and the cost is about $90.

Hi Pavol,
Dose the version 2 radio tx SSB & CW on VHF & UHF after the modification please?
Kind regards,
Ray, M0RAY.
Would love to buy the modified radio, any one who knows if somebody is selling them modified for hf?
I was thinking the same thing.. The radio is less than $25 how much more could it be for this mod included.
@@n1kkri maybe it’s to complicated to produce in large scale, if they have to do the mod manually I mean

Next time you do a video, do it indoors so you don't have a yappy dog or lawnmower going in the background, most annoying
Oh gosh! Indoors and receivers video... OK 🫣 really smart idea lol
