The Fall started me on my accent away from commercial music and focus on message. It most certainly helped that their music making was raw and full of energy. My ears have been reborn, out comes the vinyl yeah!
Reminds me of Dr. Robert by the Beatles and you're right about you never can turn this song loud enough. That was my first reaction 25 years ago and my first reaction when I heard it today!
Is there anyone who still hasn't heard 'Cheap Space Chant' ? In TH-cam, search for 'Timekode, Mark E Smith' and listen to the strangest and best MES/Fall collaboration of them all...
I used to listen a lot to that oneabout he looking for a motorbyke. I listened to Fall in John Peel showin Berlin in 1981. I don't remember what was called. Anyway this one song original : The Other Half , pioneer rock garage band 0f 1965/66.Faboulous , sligtly like Sky Saxon and The Seeds,
The thing I like about The Fall is that no matter how obscure Mark E Smith could be with his lyrics, the songs are so rhythmical you can actual dance away to them... should you wish to
I literally remember the day I saw the Mr Pharmacist video the first time. It was in the morning sometime, I was at my father's place. There was no MTV yet (where I'm from), I dont think, musta been on Sky or what was it, Super Channel.
I musta been real young, 13 perhaps?, because I remember what a revelation it was. I had literally heard nothing like this before! Mark E Smith's snarl, the guitars everything pointed. The 'fuck it all' (I hadnt heard the Sex Pistols yet). Seriously, it was an eye-opener like nothing until... years later, Public Enemy's Bring the Noise. Once every five years you hear something that hit you right onto a different level - this was one of those, for me.
following the punk rock belief of singing what you know about, mark E smith and the fall carried out years of chemical research, one way and another, to prepare them spiritually and mentally for their own manic take on this track.
RIP Mark...

Listen to the Other Half's original from the 60's, great too.
Nice to see Gene Hunt branching out.
The best thing about this video has to be the little sign on the fence that reads "It is windy". Offhand and completely random.
I see Leigh Bowery is in this as well as Cruiser's Creek (the colourfully spotted creature :) ).
RIP Mark E Smith legend 😥

@81FanVilla If you mean who I think you mean, "she" is actually the late Leigh Bowery.
