We have an antique garden tractor that we lift one rear wheel off the ground and then tie the tank to the wheel and put the sharpest grannet gravel pieces that can be found in it. Let it run in different gears and in reverse changing speed and direction often for several hours or until it's shiny again inside. Just keep an eye on it often so the whole tank doesn't work away from the tire and wheel. If it starts to get a little loose it'll work sloppy lose in short order.

Why don't you use muriatic acid? Have you tried it or had a bad result from it? Thanks.....

Water in a gas tank? Doesn't that encourage rust? Why not just gas or Seafoam?

You can certainly use those things. But if you're shaking up a bunch of gas inside the tank with metal on metal contact inside I'd hate to see a spark ignite. I recommend water with an abrasive, and then rinsing with clean gasoline to get rid of any residual water.
