Sunset Rider OMG that's awesome! Thanks for the feedback. Definitely a good reminder that this stuff should be done by an HVAC technician. So many things can go wrong if you don't. Thanks again!
LOL Blow torches and a little soldering isn't that bad. Actually, the hardest part is putting in the freon and making sure you have the right gauges, so that you don't put in too much!
great job. I like the way you took the time to put the contact protector fluid on before reconnecting the power, and vacuumed the interior, as well as inspecting the brazed joints.
Really appreciate you putting your time into these videos. They're done really well. I'm still learning and trying to get that first job in the field. Videos like this where i can watch an walk myself through what you're doing on video is awesome and extremely helpful!
I just got in the trade man I love youre videos barely my second week but all ready feel like I wanna get out there love how u go in to detail of things much love man keep doing you're thing from Pasadena ca
These are the best videos I've seen so far as a new guy, but it would be awesome if you slowed it down and explained a little along the way and did a close a little bit more, but this is awesome
Hello, Great video Bud..Wish I can go into the trade I love HVAC. Went to trade school for 4 years but have not found someone to give me the chance yet.
Get you a couple of 12" long 3/8 drive so can get compressor bolts out easy, believe me you will use them on residential & commercial compressor changes.
I Like Your Channel Bud i was in the field years ago learned from my Father he was a Master hvac Serviceman owned his own Business it's A'lot of Fun and Worked and Learned on Commercial Rooftop Package Units.Keep the Video's up man Really Enjoy Watching,,.
Great job. You had a little helper there and the nice lady standing by you at the end sounded very pleased too. Can't beat that with a stick. Should have used 407c even though.
I have a couple of questions: Did you do a nitrogen purge while brazing, I didn't see you set that up? Why did you put the liquid line drier inside? I would have put it on the outside, makes it easier to check to see if it is restricted (checking the temperature drop across the filter) and easier to change when it is.
Question 1 what about metal in system from old compressor. I know people use filter dryers but if they are like filter dryers in automotive systems they are nothing more than a can with condesent & a screen to catch big stuff not fine metal. I know to use silver solder but do you use flux & will same flux for low silver solder work. 3 does compressor come filled with oil & if so how to adjust for oil since system already has oil in it cause you don't want too much in system. 4 we have a scroll compressor in the automotive field scroll pumps are junk but they are made from aluminum. Want to up grade if scroll is not good to use
Well good video but I didn’t learn much . Did the new compressor already have oil in it ? Do you not have to flush the A coil anyway I’m changing one out an would like to know thanks
Are compressors interchangeable? My condenser is ssx140421cb with compressor ZP31K5E-PFV-830 which has gone bad. I bought part ZP42K5E-PFV-800 as a replacement. Will this fit without any issues or cause damage?
Nice video Greg. Very nice and clean job. My thought on that and how I approach that with clients is that it's like putting a new engine in an old car. It's a pretty engine but still an old car with crappy gas mileage. Even a cheaper unit would still get better gas mileage and have a 10 year warranty. I don't know what the conditions were but either way keep doing your thing. I hope you don't take that negative just trying to help.
The signature music (opening and closing) is way too loud. Otherwise, good video, in clear steps, and with special attention to providing the best camera view. We especially appreciate the logical analysis of the problem-- very worthwhile.
Thank you for your prompt answer in the future would you make a video about how much can we charge for doing a AC work that way we don't affect the trade by charging too low or too high, that be a excellent video that a lot people that is watching your videos would appreciate. Thanks one more time. Keep going Teacher.
I'm in the Midwest and just had new AC unit installed.... however now there is a Smell that is like metallic with oil? They came to check for leak etc and found nothing. Said to give it about 2 days.. I've had to open windows bc it's pretty strong and can feel it in my throat. Have you had this, would you be able to tell please tell me why⁉️ 🙏🏼... I have a little boy and I'm concerned.... The contractor couldn't pick up the scent until he sniffed the box part (don't know the proper name) that gets installed near the furnace where the coils are.... as though the smell is from the area of The coils ( to me it smells everywhere in the house) Thank you!
Have a good man 5 ton 11 years old that compressor just died. Getting new duel fuel installed in a few days. It's r22. Any idea why a compressor change out wouldn't work also?
I have central air condenser unit AMANA RCC60a2b, evaporator CHF48TCC which were low on R22 refrigerant (175 ounces/ 10.94 pounds total in system). How much time may it take to charge about 6 pounds of the refrigerant using suction line?
I wish I would have watched this before replacing my 12.5 year old 2 ton Central A/C R22 system. It had a locked compressor (the tech tried replacing the Start / Run Capacitor. No dice !!) Instead I paid $$$$$$$$$ for a new 410A system. I based my decision on one A/C Tech that told me I should replace the system. I should have talked to a couple more A/C Techs to get their opinion (replace / repair). These silly CAC systems should last 20 years. I don't care what anyone says. Okay so of course there will be a Big repair bill after the 10 year mark. But still should make it to the 20 year mark. Mine had a single stage compressor & a variable speed blower motor. It was a 14 SEER Straight Cool unit w/ 5KWatt electric strip heat (never used). The Condenser coil was absolutely clean. My Evaporator coil was dirty (mold / mildew). So maybe I should have changed that along w/ the Compressor. It was working FINE before the Compressor failure. I'm pissed. Now I've got one of these junky 410A blended refrigerant systems w/ higher internal pressures that are bound to shorten system life. Seek council from multiple A/C Techs before swapping out your system.
Nice work, should last another 20 years. The only thing I would of did differently would be to install the liquid line filter outside of the unit. Then it can be changed in the future by pumping down the unit.
love the videos.. im fairly new to the hvac field here in canada. i have a quick question... what is your prefered ratio of oxygen to acetylene? ive heard different techs prefer slightly different ratios..
Nice job. I have that same condensing unit. Mine is about 14years old. Although it is shot from the dog peeing on it. I put in a multi-zone Mitsubishi system last year. Kept the gas furnace for back up. I would have liked a little commentary during the video but I'm sure you have to balance video taping and getting the job done.
Thanks for watching. Yeah. I try not to be to instructional in my videos. I'm more interested in just letting you guys see what Im doing out in the field. Thanks so much for watching!
My aircondioning system has lasted almost 30 years. The only thing that's wrong with it. Is the condescending fan motor is seized because of bearings. Instead of replacing the fan, I'm thinking of replacing the whole system. The furnace was put In at the same time. Only thing, that I'm I've done to the system, is replace the blower fan in the furnace. The system was installed in 1990.
When is changing the compressor a better option than going with a new system? Just curious, I know it depends on the customer. But, in the grand scheme of things would they save more by getting a newer system? That's more efficient.
How long did it take to do that replacement? (It's currently hot and humid here in northern Illinois and I don't want to be without AC for too long. Ours is on more than it is off!) My compressor started getting noisy and I'm just trying to get an idea of how much time it takes, and would it be less time than replacing the entire unit.
Good job ! next time try to sanding before you cut dier loose easily 410 gauges ? Crankcase heater (not wired)oh yea California r22 on Liquid side ? charge are. wait to settle out. Replace entire unit only 1year warranty on a compressor cost / time 407c on a budget still not a good warranty Sell a new unit love your work u got Balls. Contractor to contractor
One more good comment. Always is nice to have a deposit of water to wash you hands. Find a space on you truck for ,is good to have including doing a repair in a empty house with not have water service,, in case of fire and you not have to say on you videos that you hands are duty. Remember we are HVAC mechanic, we not car mechanic .😎😎😎👍👍👍👌👌👌🚔🚔🚔
1) Let all the refrigerant out (what you do with it is none of my business) 2) Cut out the old compressor (seal the pipes just for luck) 3) remove and replace old drier 4) install new compressor 5) pre charge system 6) check for leaks 7) clean contacts 8) charge system Did I miss something?
Why take the new compressor out of the box, before you have the old one removed? You were dragging the new one on the ground. Could hear it snagging on rocks, digging off the paint. What does that do? Could cause it rust out on the bottom.
contractor 2 contractor I thought you did a really good job went through it like you should have done the only question I would ask knowing that you only change the compressor because of the noise did you also change the running capacitor or did it be the same size for the new one
Thought I might be able to do this myself, but when I saw the blow torch come out... fuck it I’m in over my head! Making the call!
Brazing god
Sunset Rider i said the same thing
Is that why we don't get to see Freon part?
Now that’s how it’s done!!! 💪🏻🇺🇸💪🏻🇺🇸💪🏻🇺🇸 i’m hoping a guy can come out now and change my compressor. I hope he’s good at Brazing
great job. I like the way you took the time to put the contact protector fluid on before reconnecting the power, and vacuumed the interior, as well as inspecting the brazed joints.
Your content videos are so valuable Mr Fox! Even if I am from Mexico, your english videos help a lot, I'm an HVAC technician here in Mexico! Greetings
Thank you!
Really appreciate you putting your time into these videos. They're done really well. I'm still learning and trying to get that first job in the field. Videos like this where i can watch an walk myself through what you're doing on video is awesome and extremely helpful!
Dale Thompson that's why I do it for guys like you!
I just got in the trade man I love youre videos barely my second week but all ready feel like I wanna get out there love how u go in to detail of things much love man keep doing you're thing from Pasadena ca
Thank you for the clear instructions. I am trying to be a service tech with almost NO handson experience. Thanks again Fox Family Jim
It's such an insignificant part, but that vacuuming was so satisfying. Stuff trapped under there forever, now marginally more clean...mmmm, good stuff
Love those York's. Easy compressor change out on those units
Excellent video. Guy knows his stuff.
I appreciate it!
I could never get one in in just 15 minutes as you did. Good job brother.
Thanks for watching!
that would be at least an 1/2 hour
These are the best videos I've seen so far as a new guy, but it would be awesome if you slowed it down and explained a little along the way and did a close a little bit more, but this is awesome
just watch one of ur videos....u the man....thanks for your time!!!
victor guerra thanks for watching. I enjoy doing what I do!

TH-cam PILOT thanks for sharing. I'm glad your liking the videos!
Yes Sir Kinda Brings Back A'lot of Memories.Welcome Bro,,
I DO like your brazing skills. Looked nice on camera. I would of used stabrite 8 though.
I am not gonna bash you lol, that was an awesome video with a clear procedure. Very Helpful!
not clean the pipe?before change the compressor?
Really enjoy your videos. Even though I'm a service tech also. It relaxes me watching the videos
First time Iso you video and it is refreshing to see honest wor...
Great job. You had a little helper there and the nice lady standing by you at the end sounded very pleased too. Can't beat that with a stick. Should have used 407c even though.
Your right. I try to use it whenever I can. Thanks for watching!!!!

Mike Spain thanks so much!
Well good video but I didn’t learn much . Did the new compressor already have oil in it ? Do you not have to flush the A coil anyway I’m changing one out an would like to know thanks
Hi Greg, mine has been loud for awhile but it is now overheating and tripping the breaker. What did this job cost the customer to do? Thanks
Greg, very well done sir!🎉 F the haters and secure that hand truck 😂 🇺🇸
Excellent work doing the changeout though!!!!👍👍
Can you do a video on brazing. What pressures you do
Are compressors interchangeable? My condenser is ssx140421cb with compressor ZP31K5E-PFV-830 which has gone bad. I bought part ZP42K5E-PFV-800 as a replacement. Will this fit without any issues or cause damage?
Awesome job brother. You made it look easy.
Nice video Greg. Very nice and clean job. My thought on that and how I approach that with clients is that it's like putting a new engine in an old car. I understand. I always leave it their hands. i just do the work
hey man got to do the same thing in a two year old American standard good times☺. great video.
thanks!
The signature music (opening and closing) is way too loud. Otherwise, good video, in clear steps, and with special attention to providing the best camera view. We especially appreciate the logical analysis of the problem-- very worthwhile.
I love YOU YOU ARE PERFECT TECHNICIAN
Thanks!
Can we reuses the air? Or it will damage the ? New compresor?

sounds like a good idea

How much does this job cost? I'm having mine done soon.
You didn't have to purge with nitrogen while brazing?
Have a good man 5 ton 11 years old that compressor just died. Getting new duel fuel installed in a few days. It's r22. Any idea why a compressor change out wouldn't work also?
Great job. You did a textbook changeout. Very through.
Nice work BUT dude drop the ring..any time u r working with high voltages..be safe.
Great work Greg! I have to ask, did you purge w/ nitrogen while you were brazing? I couldn’t tell. That’s an important step to show the newbies!
The nitrogen tank is literally sitting right there front and center at 8:40
great video , just a question what did u put inside the compressor plug . thank you
HVAC/R junkee oh I always like to put a deoxidant gel on the lugs. for prevention.
I was wondering that too 👍
I have central air condenser unit AMANA RCC60a2b, evaporator CHF48TCC which were low on R22 refrigerant (175 ounces/ 10.94 pounds total in system). How much time may it take to charge about 6 pounds of the refrigerant using suction line?
For the compressor bolts I use a long 3/8 extension 1/2 socket and a 3/8 adapter for my zip gun.
Good job well done Greg.
Great video , love the sound track as well ...
Great stuff here.... Keep them coming!
Nice clean job man!!
Looks like a job well done! Why do the compressors become so noisy? Bad bearings?

Hi, do you vacuum the whole system with both service valves open? If so wouldn't the vacuum pump sucked out compressor oil? Thanks

Check this video out from Bryan Orr. Great teacher!
I'm new. Thank you for the lesson!
Good stuff!
like watching your videos normally don't say much when brazing in the filter were the nitrogen lol but like your videos keep them coming
thanks for watching. Yeah everyone has something to say about every video I put out. I fully admit I am not a perfect technician. never will be 😂
+Fox Family Heating and Air Conditioning neither am I by far working on it though learn from you guys everyday
+john rule right on brother!
Nice work, should last another 20 years. The only thing I would of did differently would be to install the liquid line filter outside of the unit. Then it can be changed in the future by pumping down the unit.
That unit is so old it wont ever need a new filter drier. hahaha. Thanks for watching!
In real time. How long did it take you to change the compressor?
Awesome work Greg. How many air evacuating microns did the Supernova register before you recharged the refrigerant?
Awesome video. Thanks for posting!
Thanks so much!
great job Greg keep em coming
Thanks Derrick!
love the videos.. im fairly new to the hvac field here in canada. i have a quick question... what is your prefered ratio of oxygen to acetylene? ive heard different techs prefer slightly different ratios..
Great job Greg !!!!👍🏽
Woo hoo!
LOVE THE COWBELL! MORE COWBELL!!
Why do you charge r22 in liquid form?
Scroll compressor can handle liquid much better that piston type compressors
Nice work boss
That was a beauty Greg! Great video!
thanks Lex!

wow man you look like the the great American cycling hero Greg lemond
I will definitely take that as a compliment. I love to ride too!

Why double disconnects on the high-side hose? looks like a seal-rite & ball valve?
Good Work . What size torch tip are you using ?
Good work. Was the blue thing you added a filter?
nice job Greg, although i was surprised that you didn't convert the new compressor to 407c.
True. I did give him the option. He chose the r22. Thanks for watching!
did you flush that line set?
What did you put in the compressor plug?
Great work Greg!
Thanks HVAC
Great job
Did you recover the refrigerant before or after you removed the old compressor? I couldn't tell from the video
does the whole family work as fast as this guy? lol
Great Job, thanks for sharing
nice and clean
Good work Greg.
thanks!
Was that dielectric grease on the compressor connections? If so BRAVO sir. Nothing better than clean copper to flow some amps. NICE!!!!
One more good comment.
Always is nice to have a deposit of water to wash you hands.
Find a space on you truck for ,is good to have including doing a repair in a empty house with not have water service,, in case of fire and you not have to say on you videos that you hands are duty.
Remember we are HVAC mechanic, we not car mechanic .😎😎😎👍👍👍👌👌👌🚔🚔🚔
what was that stuff you put on the compressor terminals?
Change compressor . does it need to clean liquid line and vapor line.
we will clean them out with acid away on burnouts.
1) Let all the refrigerant out (what you do with it is none of my business)
2) Cut out the old compressor (seal the pipes just for luck)
3) remove and replace old drier
4) install new compressor
5) pre charge system
6) check for leaks
7) clean contacts
8) charge system
Did I miss something?
you don't have to put a little oil in that for a comp change out?
thank you for your videos help alot
Why take the new compressor out of the box, before you have the old one removed? You were dragging the new one on the ground. Could hear it snagging on rocks, digging off the paint. What does that do? Could cause it rust out on the bottom.
nice work !
Good video, Good Job.
Great video thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching!
Good video greg, what is the brand of you pans¿ look like are protect.. Thanks for a good video
my pants are Reed Flex. they are great!
Now That's The Way To Make A Video 👍
contractor 2 contractor I thought you did a really good job went through it like you should have done the only question I would ask knowing that you only change the compressor because of the noise did you also change the running capacitor or did it be the same size for the new one
John Deschenes yeah I changed it out. always.
