Just throwing it out there. 6:00 Are the CP0 member the deadly sins? - The Bowler hat was talking about feeling *Envy,* when hopping of X-drake's sword. - The member still in the reception hall has done nothing, he rather remains in the fire then to go after Luffy or Robin, so he's rather *slothfull.* - Stussy is easy, she uses her beauty to manipulate, so *Lust.* - Rob Lucci killed all the guards, because being captured was shamefull, so *pride.* - Spandam has been hammered in the face by Tom, Franky, Nico robin and still *glutton* for more punishment. - Bit of a stretch, but Kaku got too *greedy* and lost his friends (like Pauly), as Zoro got to pass on the message that Kaku was fired and Kaku indeed thought it was a shame. Also had to one-up Zoro a bit by using 4-sword style. - Sadly we know next to nothing about Maha and another masked CP0 members, but there is still Wraith and Izo did take out Maha who went at Izo first, so maybe Maha was wraith.
One thing About the Fruit and Joyboy, I like to think that Joyboys Willpower is so strong that he influenced the fruit so much that the fruit just bounces away from the Hands of the World Government so even after numerous users over hundreds of years they just couldnt get it.
Someone correct me But I think the order of events were: - Gorosei knowing the strawhats are in Wano. Order the capture of Nico Robin. Ignoring the other crew - Zunesha arrives near Wano - It’s possible that the Gorosei got a report that Zunesha arrived there - They order CP0 to deal with Luffy We know that Joy Boy and Zunesha knew each other. And from what I can see there is some relation between Luffy and Zunesha as well. So I agree with Tekking here. Joyboy’s must likely had the same fruit as Luffy. And the Gorosei are trying to stop Luffy from meeting/getting more info from Zunesha
Gorosei never know what happened to their stolen fruits.. Shanks talk to gorosei certain pirate on chapter 907, right before wano start.. I believe there is a connection between shanks conversation with gorosei, and what happens now
It’s not cheap if it’s both. Those without an iron will cannot full make use of the Gomu Gomu no mi is pretty awesome because it means that being a powerful user of the fruit is PROOF of your will, unlike something like the light logia that one of the admirals has which you can easily attain power with. Actually I think it’s better if the fruit explains the specifically super human aspect of Luffy ability to bounce back (so long as he has the will to do so) because otherwise he’s just has that super human power from birth like Superman and anyone in the story could just be born with that superpower of bouncing back in the exact same way Luffy does.
When the characters realize Luffy doesn't have the Gomu Gomu no mi, I think Luffy's reaction will be the same as when they realized Garp was his grand pa. He'll just pick his nose and be like yeah I knew I had the OP OP fruit, but Shanks told me to call it the Gomu Gomu to mi.

I always enjoy moments when a person or group underestimates someone and see them as no threat, only for said person to become the very threat they were trying to prevent. Real self fulfilling prophecy moments.
What really sticks out to me as "self fulfilling prophecy" is when the World Government feared Luffy and the Straw Hats causing problems for them, only to later give them reason to do just that after what happened at Eneis Lobby. And that was after they acted on their fear of Ohara turning forbidden knowledge against them by laying waste to Ohara and giving the sole survivor reason to use forbidden knowledge against them.
That's not at all what "self-fulfilling prophecy" means, or it's one of the most fringe instances one can imagine... It usually requires an active influence and not "not taking obsessive precautions in all places" or "not being paranoid". After all, it has to be "self-fulfilled", clearly referring to an active role or decision. What's more: it has to be non-contradictory, otherwise it's not a "prophecy", i.e. what one was talking about in the past... Like: "I'm sure we won't do it, so I won't help - see, it didn't work" or "you're no good, don't try too hard - see, that's what I told you". Rather than "He can't do it, OMG he can do it!" Only through angles can one look at it as the same thing. Therefore a fringe case.

Why Luffy wasn't hunted down immediately after finding he had the D in his name or sending an admiral post destorying one of thier major locations against cp 9 and punching the celestial dragon without a care goes to show they really didn't take immediate action over him. Especially after getting robin back who is basically a walking system dismantler with her knowledge on ancient Weapons and the void century. Just so many things that should have gotten Luffy a bigger bounty or more direct hunting. Rip cp0 member. Wasn't that around when Teach handed Ace over and set in motions for the "War of the Best"? Between that and rebuilding Eneis Lobby, I would not be surprised if other factors got in the way of sending more men after the Straw Hat Pirates.
The government has sent a huge amount of force to hunt down the straw hats, especially considering their relative strength and the need to keep Admirals ready to deal with major threats, they just keep escaping through insane luck. Directly after Alabasta the straw hats go to skypeia, where they can’t be chased. The moment they land, the government sends an admiral. Luffy’s bounty is only 100 million, and they send an admiral. Aokiji let’s them go. They don’t attack them at water 7 due to a deal with robin. Then after Enies Lobby, they send the freaking hero of the marines to bring them in along with an admiral. Garp lets them go. They then send Kuma to support Moria, Kuma lets the straw hats go. Once Luffy punches Charlos, they send another admiral, Kuma, and their top secret weapons. They get helped by the goddamn right hand of the pirate King, and Kuma gets them to safety. Then during the paramount war saga, the government has no idea where Luffy is until he breaks into impel down. Then Magellan guarantees his death and throws him into level 5, only for Luffy to trigger a mass breakout. It’s not like the marines can mobilise in force to prevent the breakout, they’re getting ready for war with whitebeard. Then during the war, the marines are fighting whitebeard, so Luffy is at best third priority. The marines, especially Akainu, still try their hardest to kill Luffy, but he gets protected by half the new world. Luffy gets away and disappears for two years. The straw hats return, but it isn’t confirmed until, like, 10 minutes before they leave, so no time to send an admiral (remember marine hq is now on the other side of the red line). Fishman island is Big Mom’s territory, so the marines can’t risk it. Same goes for Whole Cake Island and Wano. The government has no way to find Zou. So the only island they could send major force to try and bring in the straw hats is Dressrosa. And it just so happens they sent another admiral to bring them in. Fujitora lets them go. So yeah, the government has exercised extreme force to bring in the straw hats, more than we’ve seen for any other pirate save Whitebeard. It’s just that they keep escaping.
What if Luffy devil fruit is a actually an artificial fruit made by Vegapunk. Maybe it was the first one that didn't have negative drawbacks, and the final test was to see if it could reincarnate. However for whatever reason it reincarnated in the east, which is why they sent Who's who to retrieve it and why they were so pissed when he lost it. This would also explain why everyone says Luffys fruit is so weird at first reaction. The whole thing with changing the name may be referencing Vega being able to alter the fruit so it tells the user what he wants it to be called.
I guess thats possible but a few things. one: Luffy's fruit still has negative drawbacks, we've seen him almost drown a bunch of times and when he overexerts himself, his techniques leave him vulnerable for a while. Secondly, I don't see why vegapunk's first artificial dragonfruit would be "flawless" but his later attempts would then end in failure. We dont know much about Vegapunk but I doubt he'd first succeed and then later fail instead of improve.. unless of course he does so on purpose

@@Vraii25 In the CP9 they tell the fruit tells you it's powes, not the name. For example Kaku, ate the fruit, and he understood, oh now i can turn into a giraffe. But he didn't think "Ox ox fruit model Giraffe" that's a human classification. Probably you know how the fruits are named cause you have tales in the world talking about fruit users.
You mentioned "no one else went into gear 2nd or gear 4th". I don't think those abilities are inherent to the fruit itself. I would say most named abilities, stances, etc are the mind of the consumer manipulating what their ability allows them to do. All the Gomu Gomu does is give you the ability of rubber. But maybe some previous user just used it stretch like Luffy does but never thought about inflating it, using it as a blood pump, hardening it, etc. There are some things you can do just because you eat it and become obvious. I think Ace's fruit is a great example- you become fire, you can shoot fire. But how many eaters thought to contain that fire in small slow moving balls which erupt around the opponent like the Firefly technique? How many thought to make a pillar of fire? To use it as a form of propulsion? Its all about how much an eater really practices and experiments with their powers which dictate what they can do and actually try to do with it
Devil fruits uses are at the end of the day besides the basic abilities and properties of the substance like a canvas and your mind is the paintbrush you basically make your own techniques with your substance and how to apply said techniques and material
Aside from thinking that luffy’s extra power doesn’t really line up with what we’ve seen (similar to how people think many superhuman feats the crew does before the timeskip is haki) it also seriously detracts from luffy’s feats where all his perseverance and tenacity becomes simply an effect if his devil fruit.
Except we have proof otherwise. Luffy had all those traits before he ever ate the fruit. He basically hasn't changed since he made a cut under his eye to prove how serious he was.
The crux of how the community reacts to this comes down to two things: the line about knowing the name of the devil fruit once you eat it, and the fight with Eneru. I thought once someone eats a fruit, they automatically know the name and ability of the fruit. So the possibility of the gorosei changing the name doesn’t make sense for the existing fruits that we’ve seen throughout the story so far.
It was also confirmed by black beard that there is a book with the fruits names so it’s either some of them already know the names from that like Blackbeard or they make up the names
My two off the wall theories about "that fruit" Luffy's fruit is not based off rubber, but the concept of early western cartoons prime example is Looney Toons. The characters can stretch, blow into themselves to expand their body, they are never hurt from being crushed or shot, they can heal incredibly quickly and general defy all laws of nature. The second theory is that they were actually talking about Sabo, he was captured but awakened the mera-mera no mi and escaped, however it's not the flame flame fruit, it's the sun sun fruit, and by awakening it he can bring the dawn literally.

Another idea I had was it being kid's fruit. Instead of the magn-magn fruit, it's the pose pose fruit, which allows the user to manipulate the magnetic fields of the islands, and it would awaken to controlling the planet. This would cause the "blues" to be in the correct directions, and would form an X on the end of the new world, the sign of treasure.

The bowler hat CP0 dude's comment regarding being envious of Drake for having free will really highlighted the theme of freedom vs loss of free will in One Piece. It got me thinking about all the situations where a character's free will is taken away through various means. -Sugar turning people into obedient toys -Doffy controlling people with his parasite -Otama with her chibidango controlling animals and smile users -Judge controlling Germa soldiers -Moria controlling people by manipulating their shadows -Kuma completely losing his free will to his master I also wonder if the following are also situations where a character is controlling others: -Zunesha's punishment -Im controlling the Gorosei -some members of CP0
Joy Boy might be the name of Luffy's awakened form. The previous owner of this fruit who awakened it lived 800 years ago, was the Joy Boy. We already got Bound man and Snake man, which are made of armament haki and fruit capacities. The awakened form might require royal haki, and Luffy's is getting good with it..
I think the true ability or awakening of luffy's devil fruit is energy storage. Like how you can stretch an elastic band, hitting luffy allows him to take that force, and fire it back with his own attack. So luffy can survive this final clash with kaido because he can absorb the force kaido used against him

I had a thought that popped into my head recently. So when a devil fruit user dies and the fruit is reincarnated what would happen to it if the fruit itself was somehow destroyed? Would it somehow still come back?
I would think so. Surely in the history of the world there has been more than one case of a devil fruit being destroyed instead of consumed. Unless the ssumption is that Devil Fruits used to be alot more common and the number was thinned down to what we have in the current story. But I feel like that doesnt really gel well with the reincarnation idea.

This is my personal guess from my own understanding of the story thus far. Please feel free to point out any parts I had understood wrongly. It does make sense to me as to why the gorosei did not make direct attempts to kill luffy until recently. Perhaps the unawakened nature of the unique devil fruit was not known even by the gorosei who only knows of the unique fruit's awakened ability. With exception of Im (within the navy) who knows the true nature (both awakened and unawakened) of this fruit, no one else knows about the unawaken nature of the fruit, not even the gorosei. To make this fruit as "unassuming" or "normal" as possible, the fruit was renamed to its closest unawakened form, the gum gum fruit. The rest of the navy from past to present had no idea of the true power of the fruit but, since centuries ago, the marines were tasked that in the event this "gum gum fruit" was ever found, it shall be heavily protected and brought to pangaea castle immediately. Shanks knowing the truth of the fruit & it's true symbolism (I'm guessing Roger told him), went ahead to retrieve the fruit once he knew the marines had found it. Shanks knew that Roger was too early in reaching laughtale and that all the pieces had not yet fallen in place. Roger also shared with Shanks on the conditions that were to fall in place should it happen to occur during Shank's time. The first indicator that the pieces were falling in place was when the *gum gum" fruit was found. Though the fruit was eaten by luffy, there was no guarantee that joyboy was back or that the other pieces would fall in place. The only way to be sure was if the other conditions needed were met. All the remaining conditions to be met were all in the grand line that's why shanks told luffy that he would be waiting for him in the grand line. As shanks watched the different pieces fall in place as luffy travelled, the latest one being luffy meeting zunesha, joyboy's nakama, & zunesha actually making its way to wano, he knew 100% that indeed all the pieces had fallen in place, luffy was joyboy / luffy had the will of joyboy. He knew that luffy was ready and the next piece needed was the right conditions for the "gum gum" fruit to be awakened and also for luffy to realised the truth of the fruit. As part of the necessary steps for the fruit to be truly awakened, Shanks went to pangaea castle and informed the gorosei the true nature of the "gum gum" fruit. That's all I got so far.

The real question is, why did the Gorosei wait so long to target Luffy? If he had all these traits that they considered a potential threat, why not simply eliminate him the moment that he even had half those traits? It's not like most people would even notice if some up-and-comer got merced early in his pirate career.
How early are we talking. I doubt a pirate with a 30 million beri bounty reaches the gorosei’s ears, so probably Alabasta. In which case, the government has literally sent admirals to eliminate them no fewer than three times, and also sent in the literal hero of the marines. It’s not their fault the people they send keep letting Luffy go.
They probably thought that he would be taken out at some point, without their interference. Mind you, at Marineford Akainu scorched his chest, and after that he was nowhere to be found for 2 years. Then with the resurfacing of the Strawhats at Sabaody, sure they got informed, but the crew was halfway to Fishman Island at that point. The Ryugu Kingdom was under Big Mom at the time, so the Gorosei couldn't really do anything there. The situation is the same with Punk Hazard, it was considered a wasteland, and Caesar cut off all communications, hence why Smoker couldn't report back. Again for Dressrosa, it happened in the span of a day or two, and for the half of it's entire run, we were in a birdcage. WCI is Yonko Territory, and it wasn't wrong for the Gorosei to think that Luffy would be killed then and there, but the fucker somehow managed to live. After seeing all of this, Imu himself probably had enough and just ordered for the hit on Wano.
@@agrios5018 which makes it even crazier when it's Kaido that's involved. He's been called the strongest creature and all that so the fact that they said hey take him out tells you a lot about how dangerous they think luffy is when they don't even think that kaido can take him out without help
You actually raised a good point. At the start of the story, none of the yonkos are D's. We don't know Shanks' full name so he might be one, but otherwise it's just Blackbeard. A D becoming a yonko is probably the worst case scenario for the celestial dragons.

My thoughts exactly, i think Shanks told them ablut Luffy. But i don‘t necessarily think Shanks must be a villain because of that. Since we don‘t really know anything about the man, it‘s hard to guess his motives. IIRC, Shanks knows what the One Piece is, right. Roger and his crew were too early, for whatever it is. Maybe the Gorosei being aware of Luffy is necessary for the One Piece to happen (or any other adjective you want to use).

If Luffy's fruit is a mythical zoan, I think it would have to be a human human fruit. Like the human human fruit model Budda, the hybrid form would just look human. If Luffy has the human human fruit model wisdom king or etc, then being rubber might be the hybrid form, gear 4th might be the wisdom king form, and Luffy might still be learning how to awaken the fruit and unlock the mythical special abilities. We love Luffy and he's not stupid, but he is a bit of a lunk head. I could buy that he just doesn't understand his fruit. "Oh, I get it, it's a mystery power." I could also buy the idea that Imu has some ability to silence the devil fruit so it can't say what it's true nature is to it's user, literally renaming the fruit. Oda is a lot better of a writer than I am, so no doubt that he can spin this well.
18:40 Tekking may want to convey clearly that luffy's fruit is the manifestation of the concept of "bouncing" back from circumtances, like other MC's power, but in a form of devil fruit. Like he's example of the human's concept of laundry that became a devil fruit.
To go further into the "concept" of rubber and the ability to "always bounce back" is that, say, a rubber ball will bounce back with proportional force. The harder you throw down the bouncy ball, the harder its going to come back at you. This could be tied to Luffy's explosive growth throughout the series

Well the five elders don't seem like they always knew about this info, it's possible that Im ordered it's retrieval and never explained why Then years later When luffy's bounty got over a billion, Im was notified and then Im made the connection, proceeding to explain everything to the five elders

Commented previously that I'm betting Luffy has the monkey king devil fruit, stretching is the power of the staff, lightning resistance is from the thunder cloud. I stand by that, and want to add that if we are dealing with a Journey to the West reference in one piece we could also see parallels to the cast of the book in the original five crew members, and with the supernovas and clan of D being a reference to the "D"emon kings that teamed up with the monkey king to fight against the celestial beauracracy in the original story iirc

A few things I want to write down but don't know where to write down. Question: How many Conquerers we have of the D clan? Just Monkey D. Luffy and potentially Marshall D. Teach? (Also Portgas D. Ace and Gol D. Roger, but both are deceased.) Another Question: There is an unknown island. A pirate crew visits that last lost island. How did Morgans know for sure that Roger had reached an unknown island..? I theorize: 1. Shanks is Im's son. That's why only he cried when learning the true history. While the rest of the crew only laughed. 2. All of Rogers crew became conquerers. Just Buggy is left to awaken to the power. 3. The straw hat (on Shank's head) not disembarking on Laugh tale is going to become an important plot point. It will make it to the island first time on Luffy's head after 800 years. 4. Whitebeard's line of Teach 'not being the man Roger was waiting for' is going to become another important plot point. Because of Luffy opening the way for him, Blackbeard will make it to Laughtale first and claim to be the new Joy Boy and king of the pirates. Teach's luck is like that. Until Luffy defeats this king of pirates to claim the title for himself, Whitebeard's line will be the only hope in-universe people will have. 5. Monkey D. Dragon was part of Roger pirates. 6. The sea kings were told by previous Poseidon to create calm belts. This Poseidon will be used by Shiki to undo the calm belts, making the weather of grandline stable again. Unleashing all the hidden islands in the place. (Like Amazon Lily - But they had a lucky method of transversing the calm belt). This will be the start of the great war. Rescuing Posedon will somehow involve a straw hat wearing 'Luffy' destroying Fishman island. 7. Maybe the lost kingdom had magic and immortalized some by trapping powers inside reincarnatable fruits. 8. Punk hazard was named after vega"Punk"'s dragon experiments turned into a hazard. With that power, vegapunk should by now, have an army of dragons and other mythical creatures doing his lab assistant work. Along with a variety of robots and automatons.
I’m curious if the Gorosei’s sudden interest in having Luffy killed has anything to do with their meeting with Shanks? I’ve never believed in the whole “Shanks is a villian” theory, but now I’m starting to wonder. I stil doubt he’s evil, but maybe he is trying to unlock Luffy’s full potential by force, pitting the WG directly against him.
I also don't want shanks to be evil but I definitely think that the gorosei could have something on him that's serious enough to make him go against Luffy.

To add to tekking point I can see how a character other then Luffy who ate his devil fruit would come to different conclusions. Luffys fight against Boas giant pet panther shocked everyone by how much damage he did with mere brute force and no Haki. During his flashback we see Luffy can intially stretch very little, I think that's due to him having weaker arm muscles at the time, through training his whole childhood (with additional help from garp no less) Luffy is strength enough to throw his first back so hard and stretch far back enough to make gum gum pistol viable. But someone else may lack that brawn instead of for flexibility using weapons in their hands and using some of the little stretch they can do for extra reach. Or holding blades and corkscrewing their arms like blenders. Or using their limbs like whips like in some Chinese martial arts. My favourite idea I've though of pulling their fingers back with the other hand or teeth to deliver a 5 pointed shigan. Like doffy said "A df user is limited only by their creativity"

Sorry to tell you that if you drop a bouncy ball it will not bounce higher then you dropped it. You can through it at the ground and it will bounce higher than the hight you threw it from. When you drop the ball you will lose energy to heat and the ball deforming as it connects with the ground.
Does using iron body on someone make their whole body harder or does it depend on what the user of iron body wants to harden? Because if it does make your whole body harder, what if that’s 1 of the reasons how luffy survives the attack?
My theory is that he basically grabbed ahold of the folds of Luffy’s compressing his arm, hardened his body to attempt to simply delay him being able to fire it off.
no luffy is yonko level... we saw kaido tank direct attacks... so it makes sense that Luffy can tank attacks. He will never be yonko if ya just come up with a reason why Luffy survived because of this or that.

Luffy might know it’s called something different but since Shanks called it something different just went with that and never questioned the name. So Shanks planning a War with Blackbeard, Luffy's fruit might awaken and Shanks knew this so he planned a distraction to get to Blackbeard plus Shanks said something before Wano when Luffy "Became an Emperor" that was very interesting.
I also believe it is paramecia (or special), Zoan is too far-fetched. If Oda will change his own already established ideas just for his own convenience then he will definitely lose a lot of credibility among OP community including me.

Theory time : I like the way you said how one peice's plot isn't a simple straight line. This made me think about kanjuros fruit, the fude fude no mi or the ink ink fruit. I wonder if his recent manifestation of the fire blob monster could be considered an awakening and is what the gorosei were talking about. Since this is also a fruit that has stayed in concealment for a long long time and that cp0 actually confirmed its existence to the gorosei and that is the reason why they are so anxious.

My theory (spoiler for chapter 1043) . . . . . . . . . . What is melting is the straw hat, not Luffy. The straw hat have a DF (don't want to guess what it is) that can melt, separate and recover it's form. The straw hat Roger/Shanks/Luffy was holding is one piece of the giant frozen one. That's why Imu froze it, to not let it escape. Maybe the reason Imu tried to get the Gomu Gomu is because of 2 reasons: It was from Joyboy and togheter with the straw hat fruit it makes a powerful combo. Zunesha could feel the straw hat awakening, maybe the straw hat started talking, that's why she said Joyboy is returning, also the elders could tell is awakening, maybe because the giant strawhat showed some sign of this and Imu informed them.

As for the gorosei Not going after Luffy earlier: even they say it’s just a legend and they didn’t believe it or were aware of it, until just recently. So they had no reason to go after Luffy sooner.

One thing About the Fruit and Joyboy, I like to think that Joyboys Willpower is so strong that he influenced the fruit so much that the fruit just bounces away from the Hands of the World Government so even after numerous users over hundreds of years they just couldnt get it.

- Zunesha arrives near Wano
- It’s possible that the Gorosei got a report that Zunesha arrived there
- They order CP0 to deal with Luffy
We know that Joy Boy and Zunesha knew each other. And from what I can see there is some relation between Luffy and Zunesha as well.
So I agree with Tekking here. Joyboy’s must likely had the same fruit as Luffy. And the Gorosei are trying to stop Luffy from meeting/getting more info from Zunesha

It’s not cheap if it’s both. Those without an iron will cannot full make use of the Gomu Gomu no mi is pretty awesome because it means that being a powerful user of the fruit is PROOF of your will, unlike something like the light logia that one of the admirals has which you can easily attain power with.
Actually I think it’s better if the fruit explains the specifically super human aspect of Luffy ability to bounce back (so long as he has the will to do so) because otherwise he’s just has that super human power from birth like Superman and anyone in the story could just be born with that superpower of bouncing back in the exact same way Luffy does.
When the characters realize Luffy doesn't have the Gomu Gomu no mi, I think Luffy's reaction will be the same as when they realized Garp was his grand pa. He'll just pick his nose and be like yeah I knew I had the OP OP fruit, but Shanks told me to call it the Gomu Gomu to mi.

What really sticks out to me as "self fulfilling prophecy" is when the World Government feared Luffy and the Straw Hats causing problems for them, only to later give them reason to do just that after what happened at Eneis Lobby. And that was after they acted on their fear of Ohara turning forbidden knowledge against them by laying waste to Ohara and giving the sole survivor reason to use forbidden knowledge against them.

It usually requires an active influence and not "not taking obsessive precautions in all places" or "not being paranoid". What's more: it has to be non-contradictory, otherwise it's not a "prophecy", i.e. what one was talking about in the past... His chance of surviving was 0% at impel down when he was poisoned. It wasnt until he got cured that he had a 2-3% chance

Why Luffy wasn't hunted down immediately after finding he had the D in his name or sending an admiral post destorying one of thier major locations against cp 9 and punching the celestial dragon without a care goes to show they really didn't take immediate action over him. Especially after getting robin back who is basically a walking system dismantler with her knowledge on ancient Weapons and the void century. Just so many things that should have gotten Luffy a bigger bounty or more direct hunting.

Wasn't that around when Teach handed Ace over and set in motions for the "War of the Best"? Between that and rebuilding Eneis Lobby, I would not be surprised if other factors got in the way of sending more men after the Straw Hat Pirates.
The government has sent a huge amount of force to hunt down the straw hats, especially considering their relative strength and the need to keep Admirals ready to deal with major threats, they just keep escaping through insane luck.
Directly after Alabasta the straw hats go to skypeia, where they can’t be chased.
The moment they land, the government sends an admiral. Luffy’s bounty is only 100 million, and they send an admiral. Aokiji let’s them go. They don’t attack them at water 7 due to a deal with robin.
Then after Enies Lobby, they send the freaking hero of the marines to bring them in along with an admiral. Garp lets them go. They then send Kuma to support Moria, Kuma lets the straw hats go.
Once Luffy punches Charlos, they send another admiral, Kuma, and their top secret weapons. They get helped by the goddamn right hand of the pirate King, and Kuma gets them to safety.
Then during the paramount war saga, the government has no idea where Luffy is until he breaks into impel down. Then Magellan guarantees his death and throws him into level 5, only for Luffy to trigger a mass breakout. It’s not like the marines can mobilise in force to prevent the breakout, they’re getting ready for war with whitebeard.
Then during the war, the marines are fighting whitebeard, so Luffy is at best third priority. The marines, especially Akainu, still try their hardest to kill Luffy, but he gets protected by half the new world. Luffy gets away and disappears for two years.
The straw hats return, but it isn’t confirmed until, like, 10 minutes before they leave, so no time to send an admiral (remember marine hq is now on the other side of the red line). Fishman island is Big Mom’s territory, so the marines can’t risk it. Same goes for Whole Cake Island and Wano. The government has no way to find Zou. So the only island they could send major force to try and bring in the straw hats is Dressrosa. And it just so happens they sent another admiral to bring them in. Fujitora lets them go.
So yeah, the government has exercised extreme force to bring in the straw hats, more than we’ve seen for any other pirate save Whitebeard. It’s just that they keep escaping.
What if Luffy devil fruit is a actually an artificial fruit made by Vegapunk. Maybe it was the first one that didn't have negative drawbacks, and the final test was to see if it could reincarnate. However for whatever reason it reincarnated in the east, which is why they sent Who's who to retrieve it and why they were so pissed when he lost it. This would also explain why everyone says Luffys fruit is so weird at first reaction.
The whole thing with changing the name may be referencing Vega being able to alter the fruit so it tells the user what he wants it to be called.

I guess thats possible but a few things. one: Luffy's fruit still has negative drawbacks, we've seen him almost drown a bunch of times and when he overexerts himself, his techniques leave him vulnerable for a while. Secondly, I don't see why vegapunk's first artificial dragonfruit would be "flawless" but his later attempts would then end in failure. We dont know much about Vegapunk but I doubt he'd first succeed and then later fail instead of improve.. unless of course he does so on purpose

You mentioned "no one else went into gear 2nd or gear 4th". I don't think those abilities are inherent to the fruit itself. I would say most named abilities, stances, etc are the mind of the consumer manipulating what their ability allows them to do. All the Gomu Gomu does is give you the ability of rubber. But maybe some previous user just used it stretch like Luffy does but never thought about inflating it, using it as a blood pump, hardening it, etc. There are some things you can do just because you eat it and become obvious. I think Ace's fruit is a great example- you become fire, you can shoot fire. But how many eaters thought to contain that fire in small slow moving balls which erupt around the opponent like the Firefly technique? How many thought to make a pillar of fire? To use it as a form of propulsion? Its all about how much an eater really practices and experiments with their powers which dictate what they can do and actually try to do with it
Devil fruits uses are at the end of the day besides the basic abilities and properties of the substance like a canvas and your mind is the paintbrush you basically make your own techniques with your substance and how to apply said techniques and material

Aside from thinking that luffy’s extra power doesn’t really line up with what we’ve seen (similar to how people think many superhuman feats the crew does before the timeskip is haki) it also seriously detracts from luffy’s feats where all his perseverance and tenacity becomes simply an effect if his devil fruit.
Except we have proof otherwise. Luffy had all those traits before he ever ate the fruit. He basically hasn't changed since he made a cut under his eye to prove how serious he was.

I thought once someone eats a fruit, they automatically know the name and ability of the fruit. So the possibility of the gorosei changing the name doesn’t make sense for the existing fruits that we’ve seen throughout the story so far.
That was a mistranslation the official makes it more clear that users base the name of the fruit on whatever abilities they receive.

My two off the wall theories about "that fruit" Luffy's fruit is not based off rubber, but the concept of early western cartoons prime example is Looney Toons. The characters can stretch, blow into themselves to expand their body, they are never hurt from being crushed or shot, they can heal incredibly quickly and general defy all laws of nature.
The second theory is that they were actually talking about Sabo, he was captured but awakened the mera-mera no mi and escaped, however it's not the flame flame fruit, it's the sun sun fruit, and by awakening it he can bring the dawn literally.

Another idea I had was it being kid's fruit. Instead of the magn-magn fruit, it's the pose pose fruit, which allows the user to manipulate the magnetic fields of the islands, and it would awaken to controlling the planet. This would cause the "blues" to be in the correct directions, and would form an X on the end of the new world, the sign of treasure.

-Judge controlling Germa soldiers
-Moria controlling people by manipulating their shadows
-Kuma completely losing his free will to his master

Joy Boy might be the name of Luffy's awakened form. The previous owner of this fruit who awakened it lived 800 years ago, was the Joy Boy. We already got Bound man and Snake man, which are made of armament haki and fruit capacities. The awakened form might require royal haki, and Luffy's is getting good with it..

I think the true ability or awakening of luffy's devil fruit is energy storage. Like how you can stretch an elastic band, hitting luffy allows him to take that force, and fire it back with his own attack. I had a thought that popped into my head recently. So when a devil fruit user dies and the fruit is reincarnated what would happen to it if the fruit itself was somehow destroyed? Would it somehow still come back?
I would think so. Surely in the history of the world there has been more than one case of a devil fruit being destroyed instead of consumed. Unless the ssumption is that Devil Fruits used to be alot more common and the number was thinned down to what we have in the current story.
But I feel like that doesnt really gel well with the reincarnation idea.

This is my personal guess from my own understanding of the story thus far. Please feel free to point out any parts I had understood wrongly.
It does make sense to me as to why the gorosei did not make direct attempts to kill luffy until recently.
Perhaps the unawakened nature of the unique devil fruit was not known even by the gorosei who only knows of the unique fruit's awakened ability.
With exception of Im (within the navy) who knows the true nature (both awakened and unawakened) of this fruit, no one else knows about the unawaken nature of the fruit, not even the gorosei. To make this fruit as "unassuming" or "normal" as possible, the fruit was renamed to its closest unawakened form, the gum gum fruit.
The rest of the navy from past to present had no idea of the true power of the fruit but, since centuries ago, the marines were tasked that in the event this "gum gum fruit" was ever found, it shall be heavily protected and brought to pangaea castle immediately.
Shanks knowing the truth of the fruit & it's true symbolism (I'm guessing Roger told him), went ahead to retrieve the fruit once he knew the marines had found it. Shanks knew that Roger was too early in reaching laughtale and that all the pieces had not yet fallen in place. Roger also shared with Shanks on the conditions that were to fall in place should it happen to occur during Shank's time.
The first indicator that the pieces were falling in place was when the *gum gum" fruit was found.
Though the fruit was eaten by luffy, there was no guarantee that joyboy was back or that the other pieces would fall in place. The only way to be sure was if the other conditions needed were met. All the remaining conditions to be met were all in the grand line that's why shanks told luffy that he would be waiting for him in the grand line.
As shanks watched the different pieces fall in place as luffy travelled, the latest one being luffy meeting zunesha, joyboy's nakama, & zunesha actually making its way to wano, he knew 100% that indeed all the pieces had fallen in place, luffy was joyboy / luffy had the will of joyboy. He knew that luffy was ready and the next piece needed was the right conditions for the "gum gum" fruit to be awakened and also for luffy to realised the truth of the fruit.
As part of the necessary steps for the fruit to be truly awakened, Shanks went to pangaea castle and informed the gorosei the true nature of the "gum gum" fruit.
That's all I got so far.

The real question is, why did the Gorosei wait so long to target Luffy?
If he had all these traits that they considered a potential threat, why not simply eliminate him the moment that he even had half those traits?
It's not like most people would even notice if some up-and-comer got merced early in his pirate career.
How early are we talking. I doubt a pirate with a 30 million beri bounty reaches the gorosei’s ears, so probably Alabasta. In which case, the government has literally sent admirals to eliminate them no fewer than three times, and also sent in the literal hero of the marines. It’s not their fault the people they send keep letting Luffy go.
They probably thought that he would be taken out at some point, without their interference. Mind you, at Marineford Akainu scorched his chest, and after that he was nowhere to be found for 2 years.
Then with the resurfacing of the Strawhats at Sabaody, sure they got informed, but the crew was halfway to Fishman Island at that point. The Ryugu Kingdom was under Big Mom at the time, so the Gorosei couldn't really do anything there.
The situation is the same with Punk Hazard, it was considered a wasteland, and Caesar cut off all communications, hence why Smoker couldn't report back. Again for Dressrosa, it happened in the span of a day or two, and for the half of it's entire run, we were in a birdcage.
WCI is Yonko Territory, and it wasn't wrong for the Gorosei to think that Luffy would be killed then and there, but the fucker somehow managed to live. After seeing all of this, Imu himself probably had enough and just ordered for the hit on Wano.

You actually raised a good point. At the start of the story, none of the yonkos are D's. We don't know Shanks' full name so he might be one, but otherwise it's just Blackbeard. A D becoming a yonko is probably the worst case scenario for the celestial dragons.

IIRC, Shanks knows what the One Piece is, right. Roger and his crew were too early, for whatever it is. Maybe the Gorosei being aware of Luffy is necessary for the One Piece to happen (or any other adjective you want to use).

If Luffy's fruit is a mythical zoan, I think it would have to be a human human fruit. Like the human human fruit model Budda, the hybrid form would just look human. If Luffy has the human human fruit model wisdom king or etc, then being rubber might be the hybrid form, gear 4th might be the wisdom king form, and Luffy might still be learning how to awaken the fruit and unlock the mythical special abilities. We love Luffy and he's not stupid, but he is a bit of a lunk head. I could buy that he just doesn't understand his fruit. "Oh, I get it, it's a mystery power." I could also buy the idea that Imu has some ability to silence the devil fruit so it can't say what it's true nature is to it's user, literally renaming the fruit. To go further into the "concept" of rubber and the ability to "always bounce back" is that, say, a rubber ball will bounce back with proportional force. The harder you throw down the bouncy ball, the harder its going to come back at you. This could be tied to Luffy's explosive growth throughout the series

Commented previously that I'm betting Luffy has the monkey king devil fruit, stretching is the power of the staff, lightning resistance is from the thunder cloud. I stand by that, and want to add that if we are dealing with a Journey to the West reference in one piece we could also see parallels to the cast of the book in the original five crew members, and with the supernovas and clan of D being a reference to the "D"emon kings that teamed up with the monkey king to fight against the celestial beauracracy in the original story iirc

A few things I want to write down but don't know where to write down.
Question: How many Conquerers we have of the D clan?
Just Monkey D. Luffy and potentially Marshall D. Teach? (Also Portgas D. Ace and Gol D. Roger, but both are deceased.)
Another Question: There is an unknown island. A pirate crew visits that last lost island. How did Morgans know for sure that Roger had reached an unknown island..?
I theorize:
1. Shanks is Im's son. That's why only he cried when learning the true history. While the rest of the crew only laughed.
2. All of Rogers crew became conquerers. Just Buggy is left to awaken to the power.
3. The straw hat (on Shank's head) not disembarking on Laugh tale is going to become an important plot point. It will make it to the island first time on Luffy's head after 800 years.
4. Whitebeard's line of Teach 'not being the man Roger was waiting for' is going to become another important plot point. Because of Luffy opening the way for him, Blackbeard will make it to Laughtale first and claim to be the new Joy Boy and king of the pirates. Teach's luck is like that. Until Luffy defeats this king of pirates to claim the title for himself, Whitebeard's line will be the only hope in-universe people will have.
5. Monkey D. Dragon was part of Roger pirates.
6. The sea kings were told by previous Poseidon to create calm belts. This Poseidon will be used by Shiki to undo the calm belts, making the weather of grandline stable again. Unleashing all the hidden islands in the place. (Like Amazon Lily - But they had a lucky method of transversing the calm belt). This will be the start of the great war. Rescuing Posedon will somehow involve a straw hat wearing 'Luffy' destroying Fishman island.
7. Maybe the lost kingdom had magic and immortalized some by trapping powers inside reincarnatable fruits.
8. Punk hazard was named after vega"Punk"'s dragon experiments turned into a hazard. There, Vegapunk was able to recreate Kaido's fruit from his DNA. And was able to extract a dragon's DNA from that and recreate dragons. With that power, vegapunk should by now, have an army of dragons and other mythical creatures doing his lab assistant work. Along with a variety of robots and automatons.
I’m curious if the Gorosei’s sudden interest in having Luffy killed has anything to do with their meeting with Shanks? I’ve never believed in the whole “Shanks is a villian” theory, but now I’m starting to wonder. I stil doubt he’s evil, but maybe he is trying to unlock Luffy’s full potential by force, pitting the WG directly against him.

To add to tekking point I can see how a character other then Luffy who ate his devil fruit would come to different conclusions. Luffys fight against Boas giant pet panther shocked everyone by how much damage he did with mere brute force and no Haki.
During his flashback we see Luffy can intially stretch very little, I think that's due to him having weaker arm muscles at the time, through training his whole childhood (with additional help from garp no less) Luffy is strength enough to throw his first back so hard and stretch far back enough to make gum gum pistol viable.
But someone else may lack that brawn instead of for flexibility using weapons in their hands and using some of the little stretch they can do for extra reach. Or holding blades and corkscrewing their arms like blenders. Or using their limbs like whips like in some Chinese martial arts.
My favourite idea I've though of
pulling their fingers back with the other hand or teeth to deliver a 5 pointed shigan. Like doffy said "A df user is limited only by their creativity"
The fruit the 5 elders are talking about could also be Toki's fruit as she jumps ahead centuries at a time.

Sorry to tell you that if you drop a bouncy ball it will not bounce higher then you dropped it. You can through it at the ground and it will bounce higher than the hight you threw it from.
When you drop the ball you will lose energy to heat and the ball deforming as it connects with the ground.
Does using iron body on someone make their whole body harder or does it depend on what the user of iron body wants to harden? Because if it does make your whole body harder, what if that’s 1 of the reasons how luffy survives the attack?
My theory is that he basically grabbed ahold of the folds of Luffy’s compressing his arm, hardened his body to attempt to simply delay him being able to fire it off.

So Shanks planning a War with Blackbeard, Luffy's fruit might awaken and Shanks knew this so he planned a distraction to get to Blackbeard plus Shanks said something before Wano when Luffy "Became an Emperor" that was very interesting.
I also believe it is paramecia (or special), Zoan is too far-fetched. If Oda will change his own already established ideas just for his own convenience then he will definitely lose a lot of credibility among OP community including me.

Theory time : I like the way you said how one peice's plot isn't a simple straight line. This made me think about kanjuros fruit, the fude fude no mi or the ink ink fruit. I wonder if his recent manifestation of the fire blob monster could be considered an awakening and is what the gorosei were talking about. Since this is also a fruit that has stayed in concealment for a long long time and that cp0 actually confirmed its existence to the gorosei and that is the reason why they are so anxious.

What is melting is the straw hat, not Luffy. The straw hat have a DF (don't want to guess what it is) that can melt, separate and recover it's form. The straw hat Roger/Shanks/Luffy was holding is one piece of the giant frozen one. That's why Imu froze it, to not let it escape. Maybe the reason Imu tried to get the Gomu Gomu is because of 2 reasons: It was from Joyboy and togheter with the straw hat fruit it makes a powerful combo. Zunesha could feel the straw hat awakening, maybe the straw hat started talking, that's why she said Joyboy is returning, also the elders could tell is awakening, maybe because the giant strawhat showed some sign of this and Imu informed them.

I subscribe to the amber resin/oil theory, and the straw hat is melting due to his awakening turning it into whichever substance, his hair is melting in that image too, and steam/smoke is coming out of his body.

If he just inherits joyboys will and maybe has the same devil fruit then he could or could not have a higher bounty than Roger But if Joyboy literally awakens in him like some sort of Kurama to Naruto or old man zangetsu to Ichigo then I can totally see his bounty surpassing Roger's since Roger found the one piece while joyboy is the one who left it there to begin with with full knowledge of all that happened during the void century
