    I moved from the US to Ottawa in 2016 and I have to say I love it so much. It's beautiful , clean, and close to so many other nice areas to visit(Montreal, Kingston, Algonquin park, Prince Edward County, etc). Not too far from the border either. The skateboard community in Ottawa is so rad too! (Although we can surely use more indoor skateparks).

    You forgot to mention that Ottawa's Property Taxes are shockingly high for the property values. Often a major reason why retirees on pensions move out of the city or downsize significantly. Property tax increases rise much faster than pension incomes.

    • @LivingInOttawa
      @LivingInOttawa  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good point PJ V. It has increased and I think with the increase in inflation and the CERB handouts I have heard rumours it might further affect the property taxes but I cannot confirm.

    I moved here as a young adult 40 years ago and I can assure you that there is NOTHING world class about our public transit system. When it's a three hour return transit ride from Carlingwood to Blair Station then something has definitely broken within the system. I tend to agree with every other observation though. Good content lad. Thanks.

    • @LivingInOttawa

      Not rude at all - wages across many industries have not increased to meet the increasing inflation. It’s a valid point.

  • @JohnQTaxpayer.

    I think the "It's boring" or "Lack of entertainment" crowd come from a background of living in a major city like Toronto, Montreal, etc.
    If you are not from those cities, then you can't really say its being "boring". I mean Ottawa would be a step up to Hamilton (where I reside). There are millions of people that live outside of Toronto, so I don't like this criticism of Ottawa as its purely based on if you live in Toronto or not.

      There is interesting people here but they are most likely disconnected from each other. Ottawa attracts a lot of introverted shy people who stay home. Having said that Ottawa does offer some cool things, and some interesting people who do like to try new things. Often times the most interesting more adventurous people are those who have moved here from Montreal, Toronto, or other parts of the world.

    If ya live in suburbs, busses can be slow. They run every 30 min out there...... However inside the city , transit is super fast and convenient. Buses run every 15-20 min. And there is usually several options at one bus top...meaning you can get a bus every 3-6 minutes. And at rush hour its even faster. With dedicated bus lanes..the rush hour traffic rarely effects our inner city bus routes

    Ottawa is horrible, high crime, rent, property taxes! I lived here for 40 years & things have become worse over time, moved to Thunder Bay & now I'm so happy!

I remember I’ve kept asking wat do u guys do here all they do is go to each other’s houses an play games n hang out, orrrr sell Dope lool foreal. The city is sooo small lool u could honestly run into the same person multiple times a day because every teenager or those in there 20’s all go to the same hang out spots shop at the same places inner city small u will see the same person u seen a hour ago in traffic hours later an there downtown is small with hardly any tall buildings but overall great skools literally i kidd u not there skools are great.

    Mexico City has a great Metro system, so does Montreal. Ottawa PTS is caca for a G7 country. 417 highway is like a plugged drainage. Claridge Homes who is in cahoots with the mafia that runs CH makes ugly buildings, like the one at 00:35. Streets all over have been mutilated creating congestion all over! Construction never ends in here! It is a mad city!

    Canada itself is the issue....
    Taxation, taxation, taxation.
    How can any country grow with such an impediment?
    There is space but how can it be developed with the overriding costs of achieving anything?
    And then there is the climate but that is to be expected.... running your furnace 24/7 in an Edmonton winter?
    I spent time in Ottawa in 2003, the day the lights went out...it was a great place back then, small and clean enough. Gatineau balloon festival, the Air Museum, but the Taxation.....wow.
    Thousand Islands, Wolf Island and Kingston......but the Taxation and I bet its worse nowadays....
    Still there is great potential and vast open spaces.....but that Taxation....sorry its no good. Eh?
    Then there is the Politics but that's the same most places.....

    I have lived all 43 years of my life living in Toronto. I have only been to Ottawa once, and yes, very, very boring city! The cost of living in Ottawa is cheaper than Toronto, so that's probably the only good thing Ottawa has going for it. I can't see myself ever going back to Ottawa, I just spend the extra 2-3 hours and go to Montreal, where I know I'll have a good time.

    Grew up in Ottawa. You must be bilingual to get hired by government esp with degree. Ottawa /Nepean Ottawa west vary spread out. Great for bikeways, green spaces, museums and parks. They could improve bus routes. Schools were great both Catholic and public. Many sports teams . Ottawa has all 4 seasons. I loved the back yard pools in summer, A/C, the fall colours, mature trees and winter canal to skate. If you work in government as manager and up your salary will be higher than private and pension great. The bad is Trudeau and his WEF destructive policies and his narcissistic corruption 😢. Gone will be freedoms under his fathers charter of rights and freedoms

    • @LivingInOttawa
      @LivingInOttawa  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct that if you want a management level position or more in GOC you will need to be bilingual but you can get on pretty well without being bilingual in Ottawa. I grew up in Nepean and have those same memories of great summers, pools, playing with kids throughout the 80s! Good times indeed!

    As for Petawawa, their Town Council has to stop their backwards attitudes, including Mayor Bob Sweet and their backwards Town Council using Resolution 11 as an excuse not to make proclamations or even fly a Gay Pride flag.
    Mayor Bob Sweet is Greater Ottawa's version of Dave Emerson, a former Springdale Mayor whom used is religious ties not have a Rainbow Crosswalk.
    Petawawa, if you want to prove to be an inclusive community, STOP making excuses for not flying the Pride flag, including that stupid Resolution 11.
    Shame on you Petawawa Town Council for going against inclusion.
    C'mon, this is Petawawa, NOT Springdale.

    America needs to start issuing visas to Canadians. The immigrant population will end up in America taking American jobs. We can't let TN visas be given to Canadians anymore. It is time to see Canada as Mexico and use the same visa requirements.

      Yes, the hospitals in Ottawa are very hospitable. The doctors and nurses are all trained chefs and they have great menus and really good wine lists. Excellent daily specials too!
