EDIT: Realizing at the end that you're part of a business promoting your services, I have to say, you must be a Gary Vaynerchuk fan. THIS is how you do business. HELP people with a problem. I had no idea you were a real estate agent until the end. No asking for likes, no asking for subs, no pounding your services down my throat... touche my friend. Great job on the video being super helpful, caring, and genuinely wanting people to do well when they come here, with a bit of "I am a real-estate agent" sprinkled in at the end. Just a fantastic job with this video! Thanks. Hello! I got laid off from my job in Canmore last month and am flying back there on the 15th. Seems the people in Ottawa and the job market stability are two major plus points for Ottawa. Cheers.
Thanks Mike for your feedback. I appreciate your comments and openness. I am a real estate broker who has a network of agents across Canada that I work with. I was hesitant starting this channel for the negativity that is out there towards Realtors. And having sold several homes prior to becoming an agent I can see why there is such negativity. If you are out to take advantage of people, not work hard for your clients and generally saying whatever to get a deal done then your career will be short lived. That would go for any career. That's why when I started out in building my business I was very clear and true to myself of what and how I wanted to build. I am happy to say that my business is now 95% by referral. Meaning all my business comes from past clients and warm great referrals to awesome people I enjoy working with. No cold calling - no door knocking - no mailers - simply deliver value and take great care of those people. What you see on these videos is me - laid back, easy going but consistent and hard working. Because, if I sell you on the idea of moving to Ottawa and you hate Ottawa my future business won't do so well - I am more interested in building relationships for the long term with the right people and adding value along the way. And that's what is at the core of what Gary Vee says. Yup - I watch his stuff. To answer your question - I am doing some research on Ottawa vs Calgary in the next few weeks to do a video about that. It's a tough call between the two because they are very similar in a lot of ways. It really comes down to your personal preference. If job stability, housing equity growth, access to major cities like Montreal, Toronto and US Eastern Seaboard is important Ottawa is a great base of operations. If you are in the Energy occupation, enjoy the West coast lifestyle and access to Mountains then Calgary is a great bet. Once I get through he research and shoot/edit the video I am hoping you will be able to see it but you may already be on and off a plane by then. All the best!

Ive lived in Ottawa 24 years. Pretty accurate. I only wish Ottawa didn't keep growing; I know every major city grows over time, but the Ottawa I saw in 1997 was more manageable in terms of traffic. Plus, I think there's a general correlation between the size of a city and the rudeness and craziness of its drivers.

Agreed. Love that it is a small town feel with great quality of life such as access to natural trails and culture (museums) and yet it's becoming a big city. (I'm not bilingual either).
Hope this doesn't come across bad to any canadians. I'm due to apply for an IEC soon and strongly debating between Montreal (a city I've visited over 4 times and have a good connection of friends and an affinity for its French culture and language) and Ottawa, a place I only did one day trip to see and tour parliament hill and the senate and the natural history museum. I want to stay past my IEC and given how likely I am to be accepted past my temporary stay would be significantly easier in Ottawa than in Montreal due to my developing but limited French. I have a couple of questions for you if you don't mind me asking: 1. How required is advanced bilingualism in Ottawa for job opportunities in general? 2. How easy would it be for a primarily anglophone to advance his French in Ottawa 3. I've heard about OCTranspo's problems, particularly with the tram/trains - is having a car an absolute must in Ottawa? 4. What's the nightlife/primary areas of entertainment/shopping in Ottawa Really love this series and its showcase of the city I saw only so briefly! Subsribed for more until I ultimately decide between the two great cities.
Tq so much for the info. Came across your channel as i am looking info how is Ottawa like. Moving there soon for work so kinda anxious a bit . Gonna be first time to that part of the world. So used to Asia and European countries. Canada will be new to me. Hope im able to explore despite the new norm pandemic . Tq again.
Welcome Safinaz! Ottawa has low numbers during the pandemic compared to similar sized cities although that comes with a pretty accepted rules of ensuring masks, social distancing and various pickup/drive through/public processes. It's paying off but you should have no obstacles moving around the city.
I was first introduced to Ottawa in the 1970s as I was a student there. Then, I worked in that city for 30 years while I lived in another city close by. I love Ottawa, it is such a beautiful place. There is so much to do and the nature surrounding Ottawa is fantastic. I hope you will enjoy that beautiful city as much as I have.
I from the Bahamas 🇧🇸 wasn't sure which place in Canada I wanna live but to be honest I'll love to experience Ottawa for myself when I move to Canada In 2023 by God's grace
Looks great! If and when I have a family, Ottawa is definitely on the list. It seems like a great place to raise kids. Also, "Quiet" and conservative is a good thing, I remember the days when random people used knock on our door singing Christmas Carols. Real great sense of community. Oh, and it can't be that boring, you've got 3 professional sports teams with the Senators and a growing soccer community with your new MLS team.
How diverse is Ottawa? How can you imagine the life of an immigrant in Ottawa who has lived in Vancouver for 5 years? Vancouver is amazing but you barely can afford anything here.
Ottawa is very diverse and multilingual city. Approximately 50% of people speak English, 32% French and the rest a mix of other languages including Chinese, Arabic, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. In fact, around 25% of residents in Ottawa were born outside of Canada. With a large population of international students, representing embassies and high commissions from all over the World as well as being the Nations Capital it attracts a large amount of immigrating families annually.
I lived in Vancouver since 2008 and moved to Ottawa 4 years ago. The big difference is weather....winter is sooooo long. The first year I was excited to see snow. Then I hate it because I need to shovel snow or ice everyday. The restaurant here is really bad comparing to Vancouver . You need to learn how to cook XDDD
@Roshane Stephenson Thank you Roshane. Much appreciated. Getting a second chance at life is a beautiful thing. I came across it when I went through some difficult times and transitioned to Real Estate. It provided a great opportunity to work harder on myself and be able to become the man I envisioned myself being. A diamond is only created when placed under consistent pressure and is only polished through friction. These changes and obstacles are what shape us! The other thing about second chances - I heard from a good friend whom worked in a hospice - was that there was a distinct difference of the seniors she worked with - ones that seemed much happier and fulfilled by life and at peace generally had gone through some serious hardship and were afforded a second chance at life and became more energized and fulfilled by that new passion. Your second chance is a gift!
Loved your video. Very informative. My husband, teenage daughter and I are looking to relocate from Toronto. Unfortunately, we don't speak french. My husband works from home but I would need to find a position as a PSW at a hospital. I know the french issue will always be a barrier so we have been contemplating moving to Kingston instead. We have visited Ottawa many times for holidays and you have a very lovely city. We have always enjoyed our times there!
Thank you Andrea for the kind words and support. I don’t speak French either. Born and raised in Ottawa. Kingston is beautiful as well and a nice location between Toronto and Ottawa!
My husband's current in the us military and whenever he finishes college and his enlistment we want to make the jump and move to Ottawa and become Canadian citizens:)
Hi Page! Thank you for your and your husbands service and support of each other! Let us know when the time comes and we can connect you to some helpful resources to make for a smooth transition. Best!
Winters in the last 10 years are mild. It was a green Christmas this year and still barely any snow on a ground. Zero to minus 4 every day now in January! Due to the global warming, Ottawa enjoys Toronto weather from 10 years ago every year now. Time to grow those grapes in Ottawa, which I started doing. And they progress nicely!!
Thanks for all the insights. I am planning to move to Canada... I'm seriously considering Ottawa. My family and I will be applying in September 2022. I'm a sales trainer; any thoughts?
Such an honest review. I've been living in Ottawa for 16 years. The top con for me is the unbearable housing price. Back to 15 years ago, a single house was worth $200~300k, but now are all around $1 million and still rising. In some hot neighborhood, $1.5 million becomes norm.
Yawntario! Been to Ottawa for a long weekend once and was bored as hell. They say it has a population of 1 million but certainly doesn’t feel that way. Couldn’t wait to get back to Vancouver!
Hello. PLEASE PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION. I live in Saskatoon (Canada) the air here is awful. SO many diesel cars with no filter on the roads, it's very unpleasant to be here because of that. IS there the same problem in Ottawa????? Do you also have these old diesel pickup trucks??? What is the air quality in Ottawa???
Hello ABC! Sorry to hear that. Ottawa is an extremely clean city both from air quality and the city itself. In fact, it has been ranked several times usually in the top for one of the cleanest cities. Cheers.
I'm actually between 3 cities: Moncton, Calgary and Ottawa. I'm Brazilian and looking for a city for immigration purposes and settlement. I found this video very informative, thank you and keep the good work :)
Thank you Samuel. Much appreciated. Tough choice as all those cities offer their own set of pros and cons. Are you looking for cultural diversity when you say immigration purposes?
@@LivingInOttawa Not really, the most attractive features of a city, for me, would be quality of life; the possibility to develop a career in data (Data/Database Analyst) because I currently work in this area and I love doing so; obviously high chances of immigration. The definite important feature is quality of life. I've never been to a cold place before (I live in São Paulo, so the minimum I've experienced was 9º), but since I prefer colder weather, I think I can adapt pretty well.
I am looking forward to go Ottawa for college, I’m from America and I am trying to do all the research I can before considering to move there if I get accepted to become an Canadian citizen. One thing I am trying to do the most research on is for ASD (autism spectrums disorder). I am a young adult with high functioning autism. When doing the research too, they don’t have the answers I’m looking for sadly and I am hearing there are a lot of mixed emotions on how Canadians are treating autistic people here in Canada of them treating them poorly? I’m not too sure if I should believe it or not because the internet likes to push out negative more than positive. If you know, what do they do for young autistic adults and how do they help them continue to succeed to live on their own? I always thought Canadian people would be understanding and kind with all disabilities, because you guys are the #1 educated country in the world. Since you are from here and I rather hear it from a person who lives here, do you know anything on what they do for people with ASD? And if not, can you please help me or send me links to websites that I should look into? I would really appreciate it if you did because I’m so interested in doing this, please and thank you. :3 (if that’s also okay with you and I hope I am not asking for much).
Hi Caitlin and thank you for your comment. One of my boys is on the autism spectrum and we had some experiences working through his relatively minor situation. We worked with CHEO Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario and they were a great service. We had very minimal issues and never experienced any prejudice or judgement from anyone we ran into. I don't know fully the public opinion at large but in general everyday life, social media, client interactions, business associates I have never personally seen discrimination or judgement towards the autism spectrum. I would check out: www.autismontario.com/chapters/ottawa to learn more. Cheers.
Thanks Zizzy! Vancouver is beautiful - love Kitsilano area! The Ottawa market will continue to climb but no where near Vancouver. If you need anything - let me know! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for very informative the video. I am an international student who is looking for english language school in canada or elsewhere. As a knowledge people for that matter, which canadian city do you recommend? I am thinking of spending a whole year in english language school. Thank you in advance.
On the education side of things, the University of Ottawa is bilingual. And not mentioned in the video is La Cité. a French language college. Also, St. Paul Uiverosity, is a bilingual theological institution affiliated with the University of Ottawa.
Hello, thank you for the very informative video, I am from Algeria I live in China, I am preparing a doctoral thesis in the field of artificial intelligence, I intend to come and settle in Ottawa after my graduation, I love this city and all of Canada, but I always ask myself the question, will my degree be recognized there, would I find my place in the university as a teacher and work for a position that corresponds to my level of study?
Hello Zahia. Tricky question - there is a large university and college area here in Ottawa. Although I am unsure what kind of a turn over or opportunities there are for new professors. I would recommend reaching out directly to University of Ottawa, Carleton University and Algonquin College to learn more. If you wish to remain in AI development I know there are a few high tech companies in Kanata and other areas of the city that focus on this. Best!
If your young, single and fit plus you are on good terms with a strong support network of rich parents and or relatives to support your college and university experience and in addition you have a car or copious amounts money for a taxi service and finally most importantly you have extremely progressive sensibilities then it's an ideal place until your a bit older.
Living in Ottawa Great! Thanks. I am looking forward to move to Ottawa pretty soon and to give my first steps in the Real Estate market. It’s burning now in Ottawa! Thanks for this pristine videos!
@@SaveGoldenMedia Thats great news. Getting on the property ladder sooner than later is key as the 60 year history in Ottawa has proven it is a solid investment to make. If you are considering buying, feel free to connect as I would be happy to help you on your journey.
Ottawa friendly??? Nah, bro. I live in Ottawa and like it, but Ottawans are not as friendly as people in other places I've lived in Canada like Toronto or St. John's.
When I went to Ottawa with my mom and aunt we asked a random lady for directions and she ended up giving us a tour of her city for the rest of the day 😂 We were amazed by the Ottawa friendliness, especially coming from NYC/just out of NYC
You said 20 to 30k people move into Ottawa each year. Can you list where you got that information? Are you talking greater ottawa area or just City of Ottawa? I was more under the impression that population only goes up about 10K a year in the City of Ottawa.
I read two conflicting stats recently - 1 saying the general populace grew 20k to 30k annually and that we are on target for a 1.6M population by 2040. I also read another stating Ottawa was potentially hitting 2M by 2030 but I find that very very hard to believe. I'll search for the information and post if I can find it again. Thanks.
Thanks Romeir. Would love to edit them after the fact but I believe revising the video (i.e. taking it down and reloading) has some large implications to the TH-cam algorithm. Thanks for the feedback!
I love Ottawa videos, hardly any tourist vids about it, it’s all Toronto or Van... no wedding ring...? I’m in Stittsville haha.... you’re losing me halfway thru tho...thx
You have some highlighted points. But, comparing globally, Is Ottawa a true international player when It comes to cutting-edge innovation? You mentioned Ottawa is a silicon valley in north. However, I haven't seen a lot of technologies that impact my daily life coming from Ottawa.
There are some unbelievably beautiful cities out there with cutting edge technology and start-up hubs that would certainly place well above Ottawa. No doubt. We are simply pointing out some of the great benefits of Living in Ottawa - and in the past as well as today there is a strong tech environment and employment sector here for the people that pursue careers or choose to live, work and play here.
Sounds good Reuben. It will be a kitties difficult with the pandemic and the current lockdown in place in Ottawa but will keep it on the radar. Cheers.
Hi, I wanted to ask if there is any legal obligations for restaurants and coffee shops in ottawa to serve there french speaking customers in French. thank you
As a life long resident I think you covered things nicely. You forgot one big pro which is healthcare. With CHEO, Ottawa Heart Institute, cancer care, and the main hospitals you are in good (maybe some of the best) hands no matter what the health issue.
You're absolutely correct. We really are blessed to have not only these world class institutions but also the awesome support staff that work there as well.
Hello Team, first of all thx for the video ! I've been travelling across Canada a lot (Montréal, Halifax, Vancouver and more...) beautiful. And now my fiance and I are planning to move in Ottawa in October. We would love to settle here for good. Do you have any recommandations for Appartment or location we should focus on or avoid ? Thx so much :)
Hi Cedric. Thanks you reaching out. The city has an extremely high vacancy rate meaning it is difficult to find and secure good rentals. The majority of rentals are offered privately through sites such as Kijiji and FaceBook Marketplace. You can also search through Rentals.ca, Padfinder.com and others. There are some rentals in the MLS system offered by agents such as myself but they tend to be less of these. I would suggest starting your research on those sites first. I would avoid certain streets in the city but depends on your budget and needs. If you have questions about the process or the contractual obligations feel free to reach out. We are here to help.
Thank you for your useful video I enjoyed watch it. However, I had a question, in fact you spoke about being bilingual, for me I'm native french speaker and my english is intermediate, shall I face some difficulties to live and work in Ottawa?
Oh its iced all right. Many a night with the garden hose attached to the sink in the basement. I have been down it. Its a little rough on this 51 year old body! More than one person has gone over the side for sure.
Arrived in Canada 🇨🇦 on the 2nd of October, 2010. My original plan was Toronto , Van City or MTL. When I landed in O-town, I said to myself :” I’ll try this city for a year then maybe move out”. 2021: moved 2x, still on the same street in Ottawa South. LOVE ❤️ this city!!!!
@@vimalcurio Well, I'm SUPER BIASED,....Ottawa is MY HOME. I've only been to Vancouver for 3 hours (airport). Ottawa is a medium sized city with "semi cities' or towns connected to it, like Kanata, Barrhaven and Orleans, etc.
Hello Romeir. The East Indian community is strong in Ottawa. Their are parts of Barrhaven which would be a great fit. I have helped Ramandeep, Dilpreet and Sarabjit recently relocate and they love the area and community connections
Your videos are really helpful..can u plz highlight of areas like Nepean ( As the station is near to go to Montreal which I have to for work twice a week atleast)..r they good enough for Indian family of 4 ..walking distance school with after school activities in the same school.Planning to buy a 3 or a 4 bedroom detached house preferably New ( 2010 types). Any leads?
Ottawa in a nutshell...aggressive drivers, traffic congestion, bland atmosphere, unending construction projects, cost of living, bureaucracy and volatile and mentally ill homeless people. It used to be a great place several decades ago, now it's just a miserable cesspool.
Hello Mohit! And welcome to the channel! French is not a requirement for the legal profession in Ottawa. It helps to have it by expanding your network and clientele but certainly not a requirement. It is also not a requirement for obtaining permanent status in Canada. Thanks for the subscribe!

Have i a good approche. What's yours advice for an immigrant like me
Hello Merovagain. Architects are in demand in Ottawa. The city is growing and certainly opportunities can be found. As you integrate into the city you will find using English regularly will improve in time. Best.
Hi next year am planning to go to Ottawa as a international student is it easy to find part time jobs and is it true that rent is very expensive?. Btw love your vids keep going man🙌🙌🙌

I've had a few experiences of overt racism since moving to Ottawa from Toronto in 2009, but overall it's been a good experience. I don't feel being a person of colour has hindered me professionally in Ottawa. Even when I go through rich neighbourhoods people are nice.

3. I've heard about OCTranspo's problems, particularly with the tram/trains - is having a car an absolute must in Ottawa?

Ottawa has low numbers during the pandemic compared to similar sized cities although that comes with a pretty accepted rules of ensuring masks, social distancing and various pickup/drive through/public processes. It's paying off but you should have no obstacles moving around the city.

I agree! It's been a wonderful city to grow up in and now raise my own children.
I'm moving to Ottawa in a month! Your video is really helpful, honest and informational. Can't wait to see it for myself!
That’s great news. Happy to help!

@@coat2018 true but certainly a lot less rain than Vancouver and sunnier days throughout Winter.
Boring as hell though, dead after 5pm

Such an honest review. I've been living in Ottawa for 16 years. The top con for me is the unbearable housing price. Back to 15 years ago, a single house was worth $200~300k, but now are all around $1 million and still rising. In some hot neighborhood, $1.5 million becomes norm.
Hi dear Peter,
Could you tell me what a good income is in ottawa(monthly)
And how much money is needed for a 4-person family(monthly)
The average annual household income in Ottawa is $106,000 before taxes. After taxes $86,000.

Yawntario! Been to Ottawa for a long weekend once and was bored as hell. They say it has a population of 1 million but certainly doesn’t feel that way. Couldn’t wait to get back to Vancouver!

Cheers.

On the education side of things, the University of Ottawa is bilingual. And not mentioned in the video is La Cité. a French language college. Also, St. Paul Uiverosity, is a bilingual theological institution affiliated with the University of Ottawa.
It seems that there is really no cons. The things you said are common in capital city of every country.

Ottawa friendly??? Nah, bro. I live in Ottawa and like it, but Ottawans are not as friendly as people in other places I've lived in Canada like Toronto or St. John's.
I would say people in Toronto are way friendlier. People in Ottawa are polite, but wouldn't describe them as overly friendly or warm, myself included.

Thanks.
