I had that same experience with Q5s on my S1000 at the track. I was a little concerned after the first session because I was running warmers too. My tires were absolutely torched after just 4, 15 min sessions to the point I didn't want to ride on them anymore. and for as expensive as they are I think I am just going to stick with supercorsas as I can usually get about 4 days out of them.
I went through 2 sets and had the exact same experience. Regardless of what pressure I used, the tearing and wear was terrible. I’ve seen countless posts on Facebook describing the same symptoms. Switched to the supercorsa v4, which are also cheaper and they have lasted way longer with similar levels of grip. Dunlop messed up getting rid of the Q3s…
I'm on my 2nd set of Q5S's on the street on a CBR 1000RR. I ride it hard from digs but don't really go above 120, and if so it's just for a blip. My tires held up really well for just about 10 months. Not getting that clumping on rubber. IDK we'll see how this 2nd set goes.
Wow that's wild. Love that it gives a ton of grip so that'll be great since I'm a novice but it sucks how fast it wears out. What pressures did you find best to keep it at?

So is this a diff size/diameter over the q3’s? And looks more like rebound or geometry issues. Also the q5s is the street version and the q5 is the track version.

The front is doing great and I was thinking about running one more rear until the front is gone. Not gonna run these ever again after that. Probably go back to cup 2s.
It's not super easy to tell from the video but it does look like hot tear. It also looks like it could be inconsistent, so along with your pressures, I'd check the suspension setup. You probably need a rebound adjustment at the very least.
I'd agree with you, but in my case same track, same rider, same settings, same temps and a Q3+ will go right to the cords and look as smooth as a baby's bottom, usually in about 2 full track days at our abrasive track. Q5S is destroyed in 1 hour of riding.
I strongly suggest sending this to dave moss and getting his opinion. Clearly pressure should have been a bit higher rather than lower like your friend suggested at that specific point in the video. Did you have your rebound and compression set correctly? Change it between sessions?
I did my second and third sessions at 36/36 hot as recommended by the Dunlop website and local rep. When the tearing did not improve I tried a lower pressure 26 hot for the rear, as suggested by two separate MotoAmerica crew chief mechanics. This obviously did not imrove the wear pattern.
The Q5 seems to be softer compound, might be better for cooler track days and hot days it’ll shred tires, v4, power GP, metzeler racetec, Q3, 9RR, power 5, power cup they all good tires too I wonder if any of y’all tried em any info would help. Tried Q4 and good grip but I didn’t like the feedback during fast switchbacks due to circumference of the tires. Thanks for review I was thinking bout getting the Q5.
I think this is consistent with other Q5S experiences, just wears out too quick. I like S22's but I"m a tick (or few) slower than your pace. I'd be keen to try Rosso Corsa's as they seem to have consistent tire wear every bike I've seen them on. Or just stock up on Q3+'s lol

I am no pro … but in my opinion, it looks like the surface of the tire gets hot, but the carcass is not up to temperature… it looks just like cold tearing I’ve seen on Ray tires that weren’t on the warmers long enough….. I bet if you had warmers it could preheat the whole tire they would wear more evenly….. you gave a very informed report I’m gonna let my buddy know about this …..
I had a Q5S on the rear of my ZX14R and 200 miles into my trip up at Deal's Gap, I was getting delaminating between the tire compounds... There were two lines going the complete circumference of the tire, where the different compounds were pulling apart and tearing... I ride the bike fairly hard and do track days on it, but I have never seen a tire split apart like that... Talked to Cycle Gear where I bought it, and they said that several people had come back with the same issue...
Same shit here, rear garbage after 5 sessions I chased every possibility including slowing down and using less throttle out of corners. VIMC on Vancouver Island Wrote Dunlop about it and they pretty much told me to run a harder compound next time "The wear you are experiencing is a direct result of the abrasive nature of the track you were using the tire on and the Q5 being too soft to cope with that type of pavement. The Q5 is ideal for less abrasive tracks, but for tracks with more abrasive surfaces (or newly repaved tracks)"
@@DannySpins That is what i do, but i want them to last. i can't justify going q3+ to these. May have to go to Corsa IV's, better price, maybe comparable to Q3+... I like made in America, I don't want to switch, but my wallet does.

I’m Not an expert but to me the 37psi looked the best. Maybe bump up a half pound from there. Your buddies advice had you cooking your tire lol. I don’t blame you tho 36psi hot sounds really high. But the wear looked the best. Plus pressures will be affected by different temps throughout the day. I’ll try these soon since I’ve been a HUGE fan of Q3+.

@@northernninja3321 It felt like there was a smaller contact patch but grip felt good. The tire is so much softer than the q3+. When it was hot it was almost gummy, which would explain the rate of wearing out.
Pressures far too high. With the hard carcass dunlops, starting the morning off at 29F/27R and then as the day goes on you have to keep removing pressure from your rear. I had the same type of wear with q3+ running those pressures.
Being from Washington I never went to the track … I regret it … just finished my 3rd track day here in Florida and glad I finally did it !!! No regrets
I just don’t understand this. Maybe it’s the Q5S tires, I don’t know. I use ONLY the Q5 tires on the track. The Q5S tires are the street tires, hence the S. The Q5 tires are the TRACK tire that’s street legal. Now that’s not to say the Q5S shouldn’t be able to handle this. I love the Q5 TRACK tire, and honestly I wouldn’t run a street tire anyway, especially if I was at any advanced level at road racing/track days. I’ve never run the S so I have no frame of reference, and being objective, this guy’s rear doesn’t look that good.
Your methodology is not consistent. Either test them with the Dunlop recommended tire pressure, or go with the settings that your friends want you to run. But don't bounce around and change it every session otherwise your variables change.
getting rid of the Q3+ was a horrible decision. I only road that tire. It was the best compromise between grip, wear & price for a trackable street tire. These q5s are garbage, now I am forced to go to a dif brand...fk Dunlope for putting out crap.
Could have been a bad batch of tires on a big scale number. I know a professional coach who got good ones and the rest of the coaches got the bad batch! Well over 300 tires.
On A side note cause I don’t like Dunlops 🤣 what do you think of the monkey grip on your tank? I’ve been looking at a new company that makes them. I have a 2012 750
The Monkey Grip is nice for hard braking and getting tucked in on the straights. It does get in the way a bit for quick left right body position changes.

The only solution is switch brands before you jack up all your settings that you’ve trusted forever as soon as you change tires all the problems go away they’re just not worth it. I’ve tried every combo tire pressure even Dave Moss commenting!! as soon as I change the brand, all my problems went away

For compression and rebound, I do have them set but did not adjust this day at all. Haven’t had this wear issue with other tires (Q3+ or Q4)

These have great grip for spirited road riding but it looks like it definitely won't have the longevity

I typically run Q3+ at 30 front/30 rear cold pressure. I have also ran the Q4.

Ran a set of Q5’s (non s) and had similar wearing but not nearly as bad as yours, I ran 34/30 hot
If your springs are too soft for your body weight, rapid wear will happen, primarily and especially on the side grip.

Its probably cause is a 2 compound, center is harder n soft on the edge, never tried the q5s, but i done q5. Never had this issue
