Thanks Alan. Skylar here. I am so mad, i normally do barefoot but I totally forgot when recording... My plan was to grab some wrestling shoes. Or use my squat shoes, but i think the heel elevation would be counter-intuative.
Long time watcher so thank you so much for taking a look!

I relate to Abdominal-Surgery guy... I have a back injury, and the paranoia tells you to just brace till you see stars in the hope that it will keep you stiff enough to avoid re-injuring something. I bet that's where it's coming from

I likw your emphasis on not resting or fidgeting. I was always overthinking foot placement on squat and adjusting. Now i take two seconds and stick with it for all reps. It helps get rid of the doubt that creeps in and ruins a set

As a scrawny boi like Jose, the bar doesn't have traps/delts to rest on, it's metal on bone. So I understand the pad, at least until he puts on a bit more mass.

  • @brianhopkins5251

Jose might try either front squats (clean it off the floor/the stands) zombie squats (start from the "pins") or zercher squats (start from the ground/pins)
i think that would be much safer than his current setup. (and all those will drive depth)

The difference in hypertrophy between a partial and full ROM squat is quite significant. Even at 33% less weight. When I stopped trying to hit the biggest number I could and went ATG, I started seeing real gains and actually feeling the workout the next day.

I’d like to see Alan make new instructional lift videos on all the big lifts , Squat, bench, deadlift, press, rows , power clean . Hell I’d be interested to see his recommendations for ab exercises for beginners and advanced lifters along with whatever els he has to say . I can appreciate this guy’s advice. He’s done a lot of different things on a competitive level and just seems like a really cool guy .

for the deadlifts (second clip) he can also put plates underneath the weights, given that the bar is still stable in that position. If so, might not need to remove those comfy shoes

  • @paoloh885
    @paoloh885 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

the 2nd guy (deadlifting, white shirt black shorts) might benefit of pointing his toes out a bit and trying to wedge his hips closer to the bar. My deadlift initially looked exactly like his and that's what made mine look more normal.

Last guy's J-hooks are set too high. He settles into retraction almost lower than the J-hooks and comes out of retraction in order to reach them again when he re-racks. That could probably account for why he likely feels the need to stay so close.

Alan, re. suggesting Jose should do free squats to reach greater depth than his supports will allow -- those supports appear adjustable, so his better option might instead be to put on a comfortably lighter weight and adjust the supports to just low enough where he doesn't contact them while squatting with good form. He can then add weight with greater safety than doing free squats. His lack of depth is the most obvious deficiency, but I greatly advocate using supports for squats at all times or at least whenever possible. My main concern isn't just failed reps from pushing one's strength limits but also accidents. I personally once had some kind of back spasm hit me out of the blue while starting my first working set and had to drop the bar, which might've been far more dangerous with no supports there to catch it. If he can just lower the supports he has to their max height without impeding his optimal depth, I think he can work his progressions more safely and with much more confidence.
I love this series of videos and have taken much that I can apply. Great content to cross the new year. Cheers!

25:09 At what point is he just doing sets of singles rather than reps? I think he could benefit from doing RDLs to focus on staying tight for the entire set.

The first guy who deadlifting ,
Clearly you can see that he's just bending over sick up his bum and have high hips
He needs to squat down and have his bum push down to the floor
then having a more straight back with high chest and shoulders back
The shoes are totally impractical for weight training as he got air in the hell
So he can not push down with heels to the floor and when toes come off the floor when come up
