I'm sure these vendors all have business licenses and have complied with all local and state regulations. I'm certain that they are filing quarterly IRS withholding forms related to federal, state, and local taxes. I'm sure that all customers are paying sales tax for each item sold. I'm sure that they are withholding FICA for contributions to Medicare and Medicaid. (NOT!)

Vendors like this have been on the subway for decades. Nothing new. Back then it was young kids selling candy talking about they need to raise money for school team uniforms. Chinese people selling toy trinkets, mexican dudes selling batteries, etc. etc. What do you think immigrants from italy and other places were doing in this city way back in the day? NYC will see wave after wave of immigrants trying to do their thing. Let's not act like it's a huge problem............bigger problems are the homeless, drug addicts and straight up crazy people that have made the subway their home. And of course the robberies and muggings. Their untaxed mango sales are not going to put much of a dent on our wallet. Biden and his inflation already took care of that.

I saw one of them on a train a couple of days ago, and an old lady bought a chocolate bar from them. She was the only person on the car that bought from them.

Usually, if you’re reselling items, you buy, tax-free, and collect tax when you sell the item. So taxes were paid. We sadly have too many people in America who think this is a good thing, that giving people unrestricted access to our nation is good. In reality, this is not good, not good for anyone, you have a bunch of people coming here who we do not know who they are, what backgrounds they have, criminals, murderers, decent or not. Many lack basic education, which citizens of this nation are already punished for not having an education, you cannot get a basic job without certain level of education, but we give these people a pass. It creates not only anger and frustration amongst the citizen population, but then it creates even more anger when those same citizens are asked to pay for the wellbeing of these illegal immigrants.

Three things here. 1, there are plenty of businesses that have gone through licensing and pay taxes just to sell things to "earn money". 2, Where do they get the items to sell? 3, It's inhumane to tell these people they can come to the US, just to sleep in the cold and beg. When I first came here legally in 1991 after my immigrant visa was issued in Manila, I couldn't rent because I had no credit. I lived in motel rooms. Gotta eat? She looks very well fed. They're lucky their meals were provided for. They threw the provided meals out with lame excuses. I lived on 99 cent Hostess fruit pies from the ampm mini market because those were what I could afford. I would have been lucky to have meals like those that were provided to them! They are provided with healthcare. I lived without health insurance for years. Bare minimum? Yeah, I didn't even get that when I first moved here legally, so I can speak against what they're doing. In Manila, candy vendors sell inside a bus only while it is stopped and waiting for passengers. Once it starts, they're out. Let them sell their wares in Venezuela. Stop trying to turn this country into the one that they left. I don't see the Africans, Chinese, Turks or Middle Easterners doing that in the subways.
I remember a time when this woman got inside the subway with her churros cart and her daughter. She wasn't selling the churros inside the subway. She just stood there quietly with her daughter until she got off at the next major station. Very well behaved mother and daughter, so I didn't mind the inconvenience of her cart taking up the space. And she was definitely skinny compared to the leche leche woman who was too wide to fit into the narrow spaces between passengers. That's why she was annoying. She and her young son kept bumping into those of us who were standing.
