Its one of those topics that plaque off gridders at times when they are considering a rainwater system. Its easy. I showed it. Next we'll work on more of the system. I have to explain whats safe and whats not ( IMO )
Great tips Billy Joe.This is a good time to be filling the barrels. We have been getting a lot of rain here in Tn. Actually it’s raining right now. 😳 You all take care. 👍👍👍
Great tips Billy Joe, PuredCloud and you are of the same mind, his mottoe: "live by your wits, not...." dang, I forgot! lol....From a cute blonde here on TH-cam I learned how to clean the 20 gallon water jugs, with 1/2 cup popcorn and 1/2 cup white vinegar, swoosh it around a coupla times, 5 to 10 minutes, drain the contents, rinse about 2 times and you're done. I also love your way of cleaning these rain barrels, "rock n roll the barrels for a coupla minutes back and forth", but lol....your hands stained with molasses beer, what would Sharon say seeing ya like your molasses hands?!! thanks for sharing the COOL video and the bloopers, liked and keep on CRUSHIN' IT Billy Joe! :D
If it was winter I would not of even tried to get it out. Be impossible. As you saw. Hot 85F TN weather it ran watery like liquid gold/oil. So always clean them in warm/hot weather for sure.
Good as i can be at 48 and out of shape. Thanks for jumping on here. I thought the topic was relevant to the off grid life and channel we have. Plus I always search for video on this kinda thing and end up frustrated. So I made my own. =P
I don't know why but one of my fav memories with dad was going to the dumps. As an adult, I hate that chore lol. I got some molasses barrels too, and a coffee one. The coffee one smells great!
I thought they would of fermented in the heat. The sugar was watery from being so hot in the sun. Poured right out very fast. I should of included, " Best done on warm or hot days as the contents are more liquified!"
@@TheWickerShireProject I have a 10 gallon brewmaster stainless but wont be back in Tenn till fall man, I shure miss my new nieghborhood! bet my grass needs cut by now, he he talk to you soon billy blessing to you and your family.
My Grandma always kept a large galvanized wash tub next to her backdoor for the sole purpose of catching rain water to wash her hair with. The dear sweet woman lived to be 103.
Very simple and straight through. They came out clean. It was a hot day so everything flowed. I would of NOT wanted to do this in the winter. What a nightmare!
I've been wanting to get me some rain barrels, now I know the easy way to clean them, but I've got even a easier way my back yard is on a hill, so I'll start at the top and roll them down hill, they should be clean when they reach the bottom
I acquired some with molasses in them. Where are you going to clean these out? If I go to the car wash it's going to cost an arm & leg. If I do it at my home molasses will be all over my driveway or my back yard. Any advice?
Gallon or two of Hot water. Have a 5 gallon pail ready. Loosen it up. The toilet awaits your disposal. I wish you had a compose area. That kinda sugar would ignite the bioload. Just make sure you have the barrels on a platform or help to dump them. Once the bulk is out you can use the remainder to feed the lawn. As a brewer we just make a Brandy out of it. Its safe to assume its loaded with a stabilizer like potassium sorbate. Dump what you can carry into the pail. Be sure both Bungs are open and use the top one as a flush and the bottom as a drain and let the water run through it.
@@TheWickerShireProject That sounds like a great idea. So basically use 2 gallons of boiling water to get it all loosed up then dump into a 5 gallon bucket and dump down toilet or safe spot in the woods lol ? Remainder wont make a mess in my driveway with a hose?
@@bslmarketing Make sure you have a few drops of dish soap in there and roll it back and forth. You can watch the 10 day forecast. Any chance of good rain use it to your advantage to make washing everything down and out of view easy. Our wash out wasn't so bad.
Hey Neighbor! You are the solar guy. I have a question about setting up a pet safe in ground dog collar system from tractor supply and running the unit off of solar. If you have tips for me or a guide I would appreciate it. I would like to use this for goats.
do you want a goat? I recently found one! Called all the places and none have been reported missing. Call your realtor lady if you want my contact info or something. If you don't remember my info.
We both know I wanted ferment it out! I miss brewing. I was under the impression it was spoiled. 100% wasn't. I tossed about 2 gallons of it. Now it ran out like a rampaging river. It was hot and fluidy. Never clean barrels in the winder with this kinda stuff in it. Would be a sludge block. That would of been x20 harder to remove.
Great to see another video from you and also sharing how to clean the barrels an easier way. Have a wonderful evening Billy Joe! ~peace

Good enough for government work!!!! I figured it was that easy, I just wanted to confirm. Thanks for the vidya..

Sad we do not have a Garden in. I get rain x2 a week solid. TN is wonderful besides the pea soup thick humidity.
Just did a mini marathon for ya.....been mia, family stuff. Hope all is well, say HI to family. Stay safe and sending lots of 💙 and 🙏
ThankYou so much! We're good here sorta. Daily struggle but, it's to be expected. Goat rescue inc soon!

That molasses must have been tough to get out of the barrel, but it looks like you got it all! - Rick

Shake it up baby, twist and shout! I didn't know you were sporting your dance moves to clean those barrels!!

Now gutters and plumbing, filters, pumps... so much to do still.
@@TheWickerShireProject that's what I did here. One bit at a time.
good video billy!
As a home brewer I'm thinking... I could ferment in those... But, who's gonna drink 55 gallons of alcohol and not shut down their liver? =P Ha

Important topic. Since we'll be working on the system soon I show the Projects piece by piece.
good tips
We should have a few more video's up coming more on the topic as we fabricate and build the system.

We thought of that method too. Shake method only took 1 Minute wasn't bad at all. Man handling them around all day ate time.

Can I use a stainless drum that was used for kerosene to store water?
I would say no. Thats a chemical barrel not an organic. Will be impossible imo to get it cleaned out. I vote no.

Man. There's a place giving these away but they held antifreeze 🤦🏻♀️ no go.
So a no go. Don't even think about it until you 100% understand a product that will neutralize it. Reason it free!
