Jordan and I both went to the Art Institute in Ft. Laud and we met for the first time when he approached me in the parking lot after hearing me pull in blasting Avail. He took me to a local music store, Uncle Sams, and showed me tons of bands I had never heard of. Got me into Saves the Day, Cave In, and Hot Water Music that day. I started doing the label with John shortly after that time. Great band and great people.
I saw NFG open for Less Than Jake WAY before they got big. My buddy was a HUGE HUGE fan and was up front singing the entire time. After their set they went out of their way to find him and thank him for knowing the words. They actually hung out with us for a while talking music. When Chad found out I was into hardcore he 1) thanked me for not shouting out "play a Shain Hulud Song!" Because apparently it was happening at almost every show and 2) Started talking to me about new hardcore bands he was into and asking who I was listening to. They were the nicest guys and it was so amazing for us because we kind of saw them as this big untouchable band and they wanted to stand around and talk to us.
Im 32 and ive enjoyed this band all my life! I remember being a kid and i was asleep, there was my friends over you playing on tv and it bled into my dream and i was going around telling people how much i like this song XD
Just iconic. Being a hardcore kid from that era they showed me that there was something out there like this. NFG changed my life (or rather music taste) Better said, they expanded it.
Small correction-they formed in Coral Springs not Coral Gables. I went to high school with Jordan, Steve, and was friends with Joe Marino. This video brought back memories man. I still have pictures from their first show ever. I "dated" Jordans sister Ydra for about 5 minutes.
May be an unpopular opinion but Coming Home was a banger straight out the gate! Great songwriting on that album. Although I must admit, I couldn't have known how they were gonna move forward for the long run with that sound, but I guess I'm glad I get to have it as a standout and standalone album of that sound - It stands as my favourite album of theirs!
maybe my favourite pop punk band of all time. Sticks and Stones is a certified classic! Reminds me of high school and university summers, just partying and chasing girls. Love this
Hearing Hit or Miss for the first time in 2000 was a life changer. Jordan also sounds the same as he always has despite doing this for so long and always being on tour. I just saw them last month on the Wet Hot All American tour along with The Get Up Kids and The Starting Line. I felt like I was 14 again.
Hit or miss was so simple but so good. They took a basic 4 chord progression and turned it into a classic. I was new at guitar at the time so I loved playing it.
I saw The Starting Line live last year-what a damn good show! I last saw NFG live back in high school. Another awesome experience. I'll be 35 next week soooo...yea, it's been a minute 🙃
Haha I too miss my dickies and Hurley shirts absolutely! I have never been so in fashion. I still remember getting my first ATTICUS shirt. I loved it. I never cared about clothing labels or brands. One of my first jobs was at pacific sunwear so I had all the coolest clothing. Man those were the days
NFG takes me back to high school and college. Soundtrack to staying up late with my friends, relationships, eating Taco Bell, skating, and playing beer pong. Saw them at Warped 2012 and met Ian Grushka. Hooked me and buddies up with beer(we were underage lol). Definitely one of those only at Warped Tour moments
The way you mentioned Chads departure from Shai Hulud sparks some hope for an entire episode on Shai Hulud. That would be highly appreciated. Also great that you mentioned the Tip Of The Iceberg EP on Bridge Nine, although you left out their fun Straight Edge project International Superheroes of Hardcore. Thanks
I saw NFG open for Blink on the TOYPAJ tour and didn't really know them that well yet. Sticks and Stones is still in my rotation constantly. "Sonny" is one of the best song about loss I have ever heard.
Absolutely one of the most important "bands" for this 38 year old...Mind you Satisfaction is the Death of Desire is one of the most important albums ever in my life- NFG still opened my eyes to so many very amazing and important bands to my life.
My favorite band of all time. But it’s Coral Springs, FL… right!? They definitely influenced a whole genre and I’m not always sure they get the credit that is due. Thanks for the history lesson!
Seeing them with Blink and Bodyjar in 2001 was kind of a life changing experience. I was already a big fan of NFG, but that whole show made me start my first band.
NFG is from Coral Springs, not Coral Gables (Which is about 30 miles South). It was amazing growing up here in Broward County and watching their journey unfold as a teenager myself at the time. All of us that were in the local Hardcore/Punk/Pop-punk scenes knew each other, NFG members included. They were our friends ultimately. Watching them blow up was so awesome yet became bittersweet when they stopped playing locally frequently. I remember the first time they played back here again after becoming well known. They put a show together at Coral Springs Sportsplex which was not a music venue by any means. They did so to honor where we grew up from, and it was an epic night. The fact that they're still making good music and touring is amazing as well. Thanks for making this video. I've been watching you for years now and I think this is the first time I'm commenting. Great content man.
My first concert in sixth grade was finch, something corporate, and NFG. It changed my life and I’ve seen them live about 20 times since. I still have a pick from Ian them 20 something years ago. To this day best band I’ve seen live, and favorite.
I met Gabe from Midtown while they were opening for New Found Glory, he was one of the nicest guys. This was back when bands actually rooted for each other to succeed
So cool to see this video, I was just having a conversation with one of my buddie's who was always a little more into the heavy side of the scene that NFG would probably be the band I'd pick if I was stuck on an island and could only take one band's discography. Just a fantastic era in music to be growing up in the hardcore/punk/pop era it transformed
I was a big fan of these guys in the early 2000s. I'm happy that I got to see them several times. Their live shows had great energy and their sound was just as good as the album. Nice job on this one Papa Finn! 👍
Perfect timing Finn! Just saw them for the 12th time this past weekend. Love love love NFG. They bring the energy every show. I really can't understand how they didn't get bigger when they're absolutely superior musicians to Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, etc. Anyways, I've got similar parallels to your history w/ them (and the band itself). Heard Self-Titled and it was everything I'd ever wanted musically. Bad breakups and lovey dovey at the same periods of releases. Kinda funny. Anyways, one thing I will say is I feel Coming Home is absolutely perfect and one of my faves. It's incredibly well-written and has almost a classic rock type quality to it. NFG is incredibly influential yet often overlooked. Thanks for this!
I agree. I would put them up against Good Charlotte any day. I used to have this argument back in the day because I always thought they were a much better band
So iconic and I feel like they are really underrated. I distinctly remember discovering them on a Drive Thru Records sampler CD with a bunch of new artists. Had to go back and dig up that CD. Anyone else remember "You'll Never Eat Fast Food Again"? So many classics that I've forgotten about. Allister, Fenix TX, Midtown, RX Bandits.... Man, maybe I'm just old, but I miss the days of going to the record store, and finding new artists like this, and then going to the back desk to get $10 tickets to a show that were just printed on card stock
My favorite band since 2000 when I found them on Napster, I’ve seen them live over 50 times and they still rock. Chad & Cyrus are super cool guys. And I still love Nothing Gold Can Stay. ❤
Hybrid Theory was the first CD ever gifted to me, but NFG's self titled album in 2000 was the first CD I ever purchased on my own, I was like 10 at Walmart and fascinated by the cover art (I wasn't sure if they were water balloons or colorful condoms at the time), turned out to be a great album.
New found glory's catalyst was literally the first album i bought with my own money. I was probably like 12 at the time. There will never be another album that i will have listened to more than that album. Great video again Finn. When i saw you were talking about NFG i was like no way!
Been waiting for a video on NFG. They're my personal favorite band. Grew up listening to them and still do on a regular basis. Somehow ended up being in the top 0.05% of NFG Spotify listeners last year lol. I just love that, aside from Coming Home, whenever NFG puts out an album, you generally know what you're gonna get. Some people may find that off putting, but I like it because each album has its own sound, but it's still very much NFG every time. They're just a big time comfort band for me, if that makes sense. That being said, count me as one of those fans who didn't really like Coming Home when it came out, but have come to appreciate it a lot in recent years.
You should do a video on the goo goo dolls. they started as a punk band with their bassist on vocals and then slowly shifted to alt-rock and were signed by metal blade of all record labels!
You mentioned a Snapcase poster and it triggered a memory of the 2000 Warped Tour in Jacksonville Florida when I fractured my wrist, but the other guy had a busted up nose. It was all an accident and of course I apologized to the guy and made sure he was good. 10 days later I wheeled into the emergency room with a cast on my arm and now a broken ankle that took a plate and 10 screws to fix… that was from another show, which was my best friends in a band called Order By Chaos (OBC) from Jacksonville
NFG has always been a band I loved and it always felt they fell under the radar since I didn't grow up in the haydays of pop punk. They may not be as big as blink 182 is today but they sure as hell have left the same impact on the world of pop punk as blink did and are tbh way beter musicians
Great video. That was a spot-on call on Catalyst being the start of Easycore. Plus, I think I can take credit for Finn finally making a shout-out to The Get Up Kids.
The best band to ever do it. There’s so much to their history that is worth mentioning outside of the studio releases-all of the FTSTYS releases are undeniable, ISHC RULES. Their recent history is really worth note as well. More needs to be celebrated about how much they’ve accomplished in the last 5 years. Chad’s current battle with cancer and him kicking its butt like a champ and bringing awareness to pheochromocytoma. Musically, Makes Me Sick shows them experimenting with different sounds, their Christmas album with all originals is a new classic, F+ExI is one of their greatest albums to date, and then signing with Rev for the acoustic LP is pretty iconic in and of itself and is a full circle moment for the band’s love of hardcore. This band is still super rad and doing it big on their own terms.
Hugely underrated in the UK!!! People really don’t realise their hardcore roots, Catalyst is just perfection. However Coming Home is my fave NFG Album. Just felt personal as well as super catchy chorus’ 🤘🏽🖤
That "My friends over you" almost didn´t make it is crazy! It has always been one of my favorite pop punk songs, and I can´t wait to hear it live for the first time in my life att Slam Dunk festival next year!
The Civic tour was my first show I got to go to with one of my friends in highschool and second concert ever. That lineup was perfect. New Found, Good Charlotte, MxPx, and The Movie Life.
As a huge Shai Hulud fan it blows my mind and nourishes my heart with hope and compassion to see this shit, and to see Finn cover bands he really fucks with. It's also given me a lot more appreciation for NFG, so hell yeah.
Definitely one of my top five favorite bands. 2nd next to blink. Met all five of them before a show when they toured with Eisley and Reggie and the full effect. They were all super rad! Legit were constantly played during my high school years. I still have one of their shirts I bought back in 03’.
NFG is the most down to Earth, genuinely awesome and thankful got their fans. They are in the moment where they just love life and grateful to be able to do the things they love. NFG I can honestly say made a positive impact on my life. Just by them staying together and confronting negativity in the band by kicking out Steve says something about how they deal and recognize right from wrong. Thanks Jordan, Chad, Cyrus and Ian for being true rockstars in music.
Me and my friend snuck down from our seats to the pit at the Rose Garden in Portland Oregon years ago when they played with Green Day there. We managed to make it up to front row. When they played my friends over you, he shoved the mic in my face, and I sang a line. I’ve sang for many years and been in a lot of bands, but I can tell you I sounded like absolute dogshit because I was so excited😂 so many great memories of them, love this band❤️
One of my first girlfriends in highschool introduced me to pop punk and on one of the mix cd's she gave me were 3 nfg songs. Hit or Miss, Everything I do I do it for you and That thing you do. They quickly became one of my favorite bands from highschool in '02-'05. I still love all those old tunes
ive been addicted to this band for the past month and a half, the only thing i knew about them was the release of albums and that chad got cancer, im surprised you didnt mention that tbh
One of my favorite bands ever ❤. Back in 2019 they made an appearance and guest DJ’d at EmoNite here in L.A. Within the crowd outside the venue, I saw Jordan just talking to some guy. I was too shy to ask for a pic so my husband asked for me,lol. Jordan was cool and nice enough to take a picture with me. Needless to say, that made me super happy 😅
yo this vid being released today which is my birthday is pretty fucking cool! i'm 41 nfg is one of my all time favorite bands and of the few bands where i actually still listen to their new albums, having also been a fan of hardcore for a large portion of my life it was always cool seeing nfg represent hardcore bands in subtle ways like wearing bands shirts, having posters and stickers in their vids i recall one of them having gorilla biscuits on vinyl in an mtv cribs and even low key stuff like having members of bane, madball and h20 doing backing vocals on their songs, they are one of the funnest shows i've ever seen live easycore is one of the best genres to ever exist and they set it off!
NFG are the most important band of my life. They turned me from "that spotty, awkward nerd" to "the guy who intruduces us to great music" They inspired me to take on guitar and drums and start my own band. They gave me the confidence to achieve everything I achieved in my life. Years later I was on the only gig they ever played in Czechia. It was on a relatively uncool boomer festival and they noticed I was the only one who parties and sings along the whole time. And they invited me to stage and handed me a microphone to sing Failure's not Flattering with them. It truly was the best moment of my life.
Would love to see NFG again live. Great show. Just saw Senses Fail (my all-time fave band) play live in NYC last week and let me tell you-they honestly sounded better than ever! Proud to be an "elder-emo"!! 😆🤘🏻
NFG will always have a special place in my heart. My Friends Over You still gets stuck in my head. NFG is just an overall fun band to listen to, and there's always an NFG song to fit the mood. Id make a top 5 list, but there's too many great bands to list.
I remember Not Without a Fight coming out in the era where you could upload your cds onto xbox 360 and make them the custom soundtracks for your games. I played so many hours of nhl 09 with that album playing in the menus.
Seeing them tomorrow in LA with my brother who’s a huge fan, I love this band. They have plenty of memorable songs that have stood the test of time, NFG forever
I love don't let her pull you down also. I wasn't event that much into pop punk at the time but I stumbled upon it while going through a really tough time and it always cheered me up when I listened to it. Hadn't heard it in years, still a belter of a song!
I remember a summer of listening to Sticks and Stones CD over and over again in my DiscMan - every time i listen i get transported back to that summer!
I was really hoping you would mention Superheroes of Hardcore. That is the jokey hardcore band that NFG did where chad was on vocals and Jordan was on guitar. Really fun stuff like Madball's Got Your Back. Also, probably my favorite NFG influenced band is Set Your Goals.
Crucial video, man. They remain one of my favorite bands of all time. I'm about to be 40 next month and a lot of these clips take me back. Much love from TX, and I still wear Dickies cuz fug it!
Well said, NFG is a hardcore band through and through I met Chad at Warped Tour in like 03. There was a sticker on his amp for a super small Wisconsin hardcore band (I’m from Wi, so it NFG’s sound guy). We spent like 20 minutes talking about Midwest hardcore and he asked what bands he should check out.
I’ve heard of New Found Glory when I was younger, but I didn’t really start getting into them until late 2018 early 2019, then I started listening to them a lot more in the middle of the pandemic and started learning a lot of their songs on guitar and bass, I got to see them live in 2021 and 20,22 respectively, and I even got to play guitar with them on stage during their VIP Soundcheck
NFG were my first live concert when I was like 15- 37 now, fell off after sticks and stones, but still listen to Self Titled often. Loved them, influenced my taste a lot. Shout out to them for bring TSL and finch along too, didn't get a lot of gigs like that at the time (UK)
Saw them at the Minneapolis warped tour in 2000 and then everytime they came to Mpls, always super humble and cordial dudes, chat with people at the merch tables etc. Saw them with Alkaline Trio, then on the pop disaster tour. Some great shows back in the day.
Back in 2002-2004, I was in a band named Drivethrujedi. I took inspiration from Chad doing a scream during a breakdown. This was off the " Nothing Gold can stay" album. My lead guitarist didn't want any of it. Low and behold, if we kept going, we would be an Easycore icon possibly.
They are 100% better than ever. And it feels like they've abandoned trying to go for a certain sound to appease fans, and really writing songs from the heart. They were my favorite band through the first 3. And despite ADHFH being probably my favorite song by them, I thought the catalyst album was a letdown and assumed that they just fell off after that. I went probably 15 years without listening to them except in passing. Until very recently, I just rediscovered them and realized they NEVER fell off and have dozens of amazing songs I've never heard. Absolutely on the Mount Rushmore of pop punk. Anyway all that to say thanks for the video 😂
As a guy who grew up on Metallica, I started playing drums when I was about 12 because of Lars. I love playing that type of stuff. But to this day, when I sit behind the kit and put headphones on to just rock out to music I love, there's easily over a dozen songs from Sticks and Stones and Catalyst on my drum playlist that I'll go through. It's just so fun to play. It's not even necessarily the drums are that unique to play to as much as the music is just so fun in itself I guess.
Forever + Ever x Infinity has some the best songs they've written in my opinion. Greatest of All Time and Himalaya are right up there with their golden era songs IMO.
I always will remember seeing nfg at the blue note record store and jordan was singing the songs while reading a lyrics sheet. And I Remember after seeing them that one time having nfg melodies stuck in my head knew they were gona do so much more. I've seen them play all over the country and to this day will go to any show they are playing near me. They never disappoint live.
New Found Glory was actually formed in Coral SPRINGS...not Coral Gables. They also went to Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL. I remember seeing them back in the day and when they were a cover band.
Top most influential punk bands in the early 2000's. They led me to listening to hard core and wanting to make music with breakdown and having screams and gang vocals in my bands songs. My musical songwriting have matured from then but I still want that in music I listen to. And still some of my favorite music I wrote with my bands then incorporating those ascetics.
Just a heads up, they’re from Coral Springs, Florida. A western suburb in Broward country. Coral Gables is a posh neighborhood in Miami where the University of Miami is located.
My all time favorite band. Blink and Sublime are up there, but I first caught a snip of Hot or Miss on the 411VM tape and loeve what I heard. Never could find it anywhere, but when TH-cam started getting big, finally found it and it's still my favorite song.
I think that Coming Home has some of their catchiest and most timeless songs. Oxygen is still probably my favourite NFG song of all time. Make It Right is a banger and the whole album as a whole is just really pleasant to listen to.
I have very fond memories of faceplanting into the concrete trying to crowd surf for my very first time at warped tour at NFG back in the day. And later on when I was in a local band, doing a cover of my friends over you and just fricken loving life.
New Found Glory does a festival in Franklin Tennessee right up the road. It's called BreakFest. It's called that because it's a breakfast festival being that it starts at 9 a.m. and they serve all kinds of breakfast/coffee there. I've gotten the chance to meet them several times at this festival and they are some of the coolest people ever. This recent festival had: NFG, Further Seems Forever, Four Year Strong, Derek Sanders (the singer of Mayday Parade), Cassadee Pope and a few others.

eulogy had some dope AF h.c. bands man!
I miss Uncle Sam’s! I’d be there every weekend
I used to go to Uncle Sam’s all the time. Nowadays, there’s a cool record store a few doors down from it.
I grew up listening to them in SoFL too! My older brother went to high school with some of them.
Eulogy signed my favorite local St. Louis band Calico System. They were so good.
Thanks, Finn. ❤
i want to see you guys so bad! Hope you can comeback to the Philippines soon!
Or SLC again@@paoloesguerra3443
"At least I'm known for something" is one of my favorite pop punk songs ever
Easy core roots
It was also featured in Burnout 3. That game and this song in particular is what turned me on to New Found Glory 👍
I saw NFG open for Less Than Jake WAY before they got big. My buddy was a HUGE HUGE fan and was up front singing the entire time. That tour was around 1999-2000. I saw them on Long Island - what seems like a lifetime a go
Yep. They opened for F2F in dirty Philly when know one who they were. Slug

Agreed. The back end of that album is banger after banger.
I love that album. I saw them play the album in its entirety and I nearly cried.
'Coming Home' was amazing - track to track. Even all of the bonus tracks from the various world releases.
@@fenix182 I forgot about those! Dang
I liked it a lot when it came out. It felt like they took the vibe from "I Don't Wanna Know" and made a whole album out of it.
maybe my favourite pop punk band of all time. Sticks and Stones is a certified classic! Reminds me of high school and university summers, just partying and chasing girls.
Love this
I like that their music is fun without being too corny. Not many bands can do that.
The only ones I can think of are Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish

Are you kidding me the guitar tone on coming home is incredible... That whole album is a masterpiece of sound
I will never get tired of these guys. One of the best pop punk bands to ever do it
Just saw them on tour last week. They still put on a great show. Takes me back to freshman year and finding out who I was and who I wanted to become.

You’re not alone
My favorite band since 2000 when I found them on Napster, I’ve seen them live over 50 times and they still rock. Chad & Cyrus are super cool guys. And I still love Nothing Gold Can Stay. ❤
I listen to NFG every day without fail and have done for years, the best of the best
Thank you, Finn, for posting this just in time for my lunch break.
I remember reading somewhere that Chad described NFG as the "super mario of music", which is exactly how I see it, their tracks are timeless joy
They perfected pop punk by combining 90’s emo and hardcore. One of my all time favorite bands.
Long time NFG fan since my teens, this video almost brought me to tears. Bc they really are so influential to my youth and even now 🖤
Hybrid Theory was the first CD ever gifted to me, but NFG's self titled album in 2000 was the first CD I ever purchased on my own, I was like 10 at Walmart and fascinated by the cover art (I wasn't sure if they were water balloons or colorful condoms at the time), turned out to be a great album.
The Dickies and Hurley shirt era really was a good one. I second that notion. 🙏🏻🙌🏻
Time sure flies, 20 years! Geez! 🤯
New found glory's catalyst was literally the first album i bought with my own money. I was probably like 12 at the time. There will never be another album that i will have listened to more than that album. Great video again Finn. When i saw you were talking about NFG i was like no way!
2024 20 year anniversary of catalyst think I tour is coming??? Of so I am there!!!! 😅😅😅😅 love the NFG for 23 years and 23 more to come.
Comfort band... yes exactly 💯
@@MO-bo2du I'm glad someone understood what I meant by that lol. Had no better way of phrasing it and just hoped it made sense.
You should do a video on the goo goo dolls. they started as a punk band with their bassist on vocals and then slowly shifted to alt-rock and were signed by metal blade of all record labels!
I just saw them over the weekend with MCS. Both bands are can't miss concerts. Excellent energy; excellent crowd work; excellent band.
Foundational band for me. Love that self titled album. I’d wait for My Friends Over You on MTV all day!!
Oh hell yeah. Been waiting for this video. Felt like they've been under represented in your pop punk videos inadvertently.
NFG still sound great live all these years later!
The ‘Sticks and Stones’ era was the best, although ‘Sincerely Me’ is my favourite NFG song 🤟🏾
Same here. Sticks and stones is the best, although Dressed to Kill is my fave NFG song
Finn you did it again AND THATS AN UNDERSTATEMENT WOH OHHHHH
I LOOOVE NFG. They’ll always be one of my top 5
They turned me from "that spotty, awkward nerd" to "the guy who intruduces us to great music"
They inspired me to take on guitar and drums and start my own band.
Freaking love New Found Glory
Seeing them tomorrow in LA with my brother who’s a huge fan, I love this band. They have plenty of memorable songs that have stood the test of time, NFG forever
I love don't let her pull you down also. I wasn't event that much into pop punk at the time but I stumbled upon it while going through a really tough time and it always cheered me up when I listened to it. Hadn't heard it in years, still a belter of a song!
Whenever I think of pop punk this is the first band that comes to mind every single time.
I remember a summer of listening to Sticks and Stones CD over and over again in my DiscMan - every time i listen i get transported back to that summer!
Saw them a few weeks ago chad has cancer and is still rocking out i hope he has a speedy and healthy recovery
NFG are hugely underrated in my opinion. The kids today aren't as familiar with them, and it makes me sad.
Hoping to gift my children the love of NFG and this era of music. So far so good.
Underrated. Nothing underrated about mainstream play.
Well said, NFG is a hardcore band through and through
I met Chad at Warped Tour in like 03. There was a sticker on his amp for a super small Wisconsin hardcore band (I’m from Wi, so it NFG’s sound guy). We spent like 20 minutes talking about Midwest hardcore and he asked what bands he should check out.
The greatest pop punk band hands down ill forever love new found glory.
Coming Home has always been my favorite album. NFG has been my favorite band for the past 20 years.
You goober Finn you didnt even mention International Superheroes of Hardcore!
Loved this one. Absolute legends.
Coming Home is such a nice change of pace. Has some amazing bangers.
Anyway all that to say thanks for the video 😂
thank u for this. they r my all time favorite. watched multiple concerts
It really is one of their best albums!
Coming Home is my fave album of theirs. And I've been a fan since the start.
I'm glad that I subscribed to this channel. I don't always agree with him, but his opinion is ALWAYS worth listening to.
