    What a sweet dog. She was quietly standing on the table and barely moved a muscle during the entire grooming process. Let's also give compliments and credit to the groomer for doing and excellent job.

    this is a really great example of what goes into dematting a dog, and why it's usually more expensive - dematting a dog like this takes more work, more time, more tools, and therefore it's going to cost more money. like she said, you literally can't even start the haircut until they're completely brushed out and dematted asdfghjkl it's so much WORK

    • @roxystarlite4106
      @roxystarlite4106 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      The customers that act like it's a crime to charge a reasonable rate for a dematting process AND haircut.... But I take a lot of effort to educate my clients on the in between home care. And also on the process I have to go through. Most people don't even think their dogs are matted so I bring them over and ask them to comb through the dog's coat to show them why I can't give them the length they want without a tedious demat service. They usually understand with a hands on demonstration.☺️

    I have a silver merle doodle. He is not a fan of grooming at all. He's four years old now and we tried the full coat with regular grooming routine. But it was a pain. So i gave the shaved short coat a try. He is way more relaxed now, more playful, and the big plus is he sleeps through the night without getting up every ten minutes to find another cool spot to lie down. And he isn't a dust mop anymore bringing in a ton dirt and grass and what ever else sticks to him when he goes outside.

      @roxystarlite4106 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      It's really important to do what's best for your pup, and your family! I think every doodle owner we have at our shop tries to leave their pup full coated at first. Most don't realize how very easily these coats mat and that it can become very expensive to demat a dog. I'm glad you gave it a try. Most doodles we groom don't even get shaved (not what I consider shaved at least) a # 3 blade leaves them with a little bit of fluff still but is usually wore manageable for an everyday family pet!

      I have an Australian Silky Terrier (see photo….the love of my life!) and my experience is similar to yours. Her hair is so fine, it knots and mats so easily, even with regular brushing. After a short time I switched to getting a groomer to shave her. She is so much more content and comfortable with a short cut……very short for most of the year, and just a bit more length in winter for some warmth. Everyone should do what’s best for their dog and sometimes a longer haired, fancy haircut isn’t the most practical or suitable option.

      I actually don't mind taking my time to dematt as gently as possible. The problem is the booking... Corporate doesn't let us have control of our schedule so there are always other appointments we have to rush to get to 😢
      If I was booked appropriately, and the pet parents booked the extra hour (or two, whatever is necessary) I would be happy to dematt as long as the dog can tolerate it.
      The other appointments needing to get out on time is why we usually can't spend all day dematting.
      If you need this service, book extra time with your groomer.

    This channel is soooo much better and more comforting than another dog groomer channel with a female groomer working with her child sometimes in the back ground. She comes across as regularly irritated with the animals and she tends to ridicule the owners. Always made me feel slightly uncomfortable with the well being of the animals when the camera is off.

      Well it's fine if you don't like her style, but she has a packed schedule and needs to make the most of her time to make sure the dog doesn't stay there for so long. She comfort grooms, she doesn't do any sort of show grooms. She isn't really abrupt or rough with the dogs, the dogs themselves tend to be nervous before they even get to the shop so they tend to misbehave slightly. She's been grooming over 10 years and she knows what she's doing and how to run her business. If it's the commentary on the dog's coat status or owners, she literally tells her audience to not judge an owner because they don't know their circumstances. She even did free February, where she gave out free grooms for dogs that need it because she can compensate for her loss with youtube revenue.

      @@stickshiftstarshipHow dare you! You're an absolute liar. You should be ashamed of yourself for creating such lies about her children and her care. You're probably the kind of people who falsely called CPS on her that one time. Guess what? They found no evidence of abuse as you claim she has done. She has medications for a reason and that's because Kelbee has IBS and not drinking enough water and supplements really hurts her tummy. That's the only medication that Marybeth has seeked out for her, she has not seeked any other medicine for her and she seeked out any other less intense option before she ever tried seeking medicine for her. Any other medication Kelbee may be taking is probably because of her restlessness due to her Autism, she tended to not sleep enough and wouldn't feel well the next morning because she lacked rest.

    Thank you so much for this video. This past week has been my first time in an intensive practical dog grooming course, where we mostly work with toy poodles. And I really struggle with the dematting issue, I mean, I even have nightmares 😂 The problem comes when such a small poodle twists and turns as if its life depends on it, (the blow dryer is the major trigger of most dogs) and in the grooming salon where I’m learning, they don’t use harnesses on the table-the dogs have to stay loose. It’s an expensive grooming salon that places a lot of importance on the cut and doing a good job, but it seems too risky to have a dog that struggles so much and wants to jump off the table. I try to stay calm and hold them gently but firmly (finding the balance is very difficult, and I hate holding dogs tightly, especially when they’re small), but it was impossible, especially since I had to work on the poodle’s coat with the blow dryer on my shoulder, a slicker brush in one hand, and holding the dog with the other. And working on the face is just impossible. I had to take a moment to cry. Another problem is when you’ve already straightened the poodle’s hair, and you try to pass the metal comb through to detangle it. When it doesn’t go through easily, I find it hard to gauge the right amount of force needed to detangle since it’s impossible not to tug, and almost all the poodles end up snapping, sometimes biting, or screaming due to the discomfort or pain. I know they can be very dramatic, but I also know the comb can hurt when it pulls (I would scream too, lol). In this salon they dont use conditioner before dematting, thing I can't understand. They rush me and tell me to do it faster and more harsh, when they do it, the dog usually snaps, but they don't even flinch, they keep going, and honestly I dont know how to do that yet.
    Additionally, they have a hectic pace and work with a considerable number of dogs, so you have to be fast, efficient, and do it right, without a single knot. Every time a dog screams or snaps, it’s like a jumpscare for me; I reflexively pull my hands away, and my heart races. It’s my first week, and that’s normal, but I feel the pressure to get used to it as soon as possible. I know the key is to stay calm since dogs are extremely sensitive to our emotions, but I can’t seem to do it. Any advice?

      In my experience I have found this method to be the best way. I used to demat first based on what I was told, and since changing my routine it has made a world of a difference.

      That is what happens if you can't dry the dog with a HV Dryer. The force of the high velocity dryer pushes the matting away from the skin, allowing you to dematt safely in a lot of cases.
      If the matting is severe, of course you pre shave.

    Can you upload version where you just simply work on the dogs? Maybe another channel? Kinda like an ASMR but it’s relaxing to see dogs worked on like this lol.
