- Rare footage of Tyroleans' Dash 7 landing at Courchevel. This aerodrome is so demanding that it does not have a go-around procedure. Courchevel is a ski resort in the French Alps. The Altiport (LFLJ) is famous for its sloping runway up to 18.5º. The runway is 1755 ft (535 m) long and elevation of 6580 ft.
Amazing Airplane! 😎I love Dash 7⃣ ❤️
I simply LOVE footage like this. Ex cabin crew here but i would love to sir in a prop jumpseat.
Old VIDEOS ARE MY FAVOURITE
Landing- and T/O-Distance - Calculation without errors required......Big impression !
Looks like fun
Don't need brakes on landing, get a boost of acceleration on take off!
Brilliant aircraft & skilled crew.
That's not an airport...it's a ski-jump.
Dash 7 has great short take-off and landing capability! ...superior to Dash 8.
Probably thanks to the “wing blown” effect by the additional engines 😉
Good ol' Canadian aircraft getting the job done, and done well.
Where from did you get this excellent footage? ORF? Great!
From a Tyrolean captain that came to the Azores to qualify SATA pilots on the Dash 8.
Good lord. You call that a runway!?
With which airplane courchevelle is been reached now? Dash 7 and 8 from Austria Airways are out of order since two months.
It's a shame these planes are being scraped. At least one should be displayed in a museum. It would be cool to see Tyrolean schedule flights between Courchavel and another airport. I wanted to travel to Greenland to fly around on Air Greenland because they had the biggest operating fleet of still active Dash-7s but they traded them for Dash-8-300s. I believe there are now only 4 or 5 Dash-7s still in operation. 2 of them are still operating with Canadian (I live in Canada) operator Air Tindi in the NWT but only flies charters. Hopefully I can maybe I can get on somehow...
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) still has one Dash-7 in operation in Antartica.
Hatte der Kameramann einen Damenstrumpf über die Optik gestülpt?
The question in my mind concerning both Courchevel and Lukla (Nepal) is how much ground speed is lost due solely to the runway elevation change from theshhold to far retaining wall?
Based on my really basic calculations ignoring both drag and lift, a landing with about 70knots would lead to a standstill at the top without any additional breaking
@@philippderbauer I have only played Microsoft Flightsimulator 2020 but when landing at Courchevel, I often give a bit of thrust so I can safely reach the top of the runway.
"The coffee is waiting"? XD
superb vid!
@AlmeidaTiberio is it possibly to see the complete video?
beeing an airline pilot doesn´t have to be nothing more than an overgloryfied bus driver as this vid proves... awesome!!!
Och.. arme Tyrolean Air ;(
Greetings from Austria :)
Amazing!
at least there is isnt trees right in front of the runway unlike FSX
Is the Dash 7 considered a high performance airplane? Meaning, does it have a lot of power compared to it's weight due to having 4 turbo prop engines?
No, the total power is about the same as the Dash-8-300 but in case of an engine failure you still have 75% power left (one engine has 1120hp). Next to this the Dash-7 has a special wing profile combined with several high lift devices which in return allow very low t/o and ldg speeds.
But it´s all traded in with significantly lower cruise speed compared to the Dash-8-300 and higher maintenance costs due to 4 engines instead of 2. That´s why very few operators use the Dash-7 nowadays.
Except in very few extreme environments the STOL performance of the Dash-7 is not needed anymore.
I read somewhere that it is not the amount of engines you have, it's the amount of horsepower you have. I guess 75% power, if you lose 1 of 4 engines is better than 50% power,. if you lose 1 of 2 engines.
MHG1023 Could a DHC8 make it, too?
No way. Not even with empty tanks and w/o payload ...
Which airliners are able to land in Couchevel except the DHC7?
Thanks for the great video. Where can I get the rest?
The start applyin beta just before touchdown.
sound?
Austrian pilots doing their best ;-)
Very cool Canadian airplane. My only question is, why do they wear their jackets when they fly?
Look outside… it’s cold!
Is the plane a Canadian Product? The Airline is Austrian. :-)
I’m 9 years late but yes the plane is canadian
Think the upslope may help with its landing distance ha!
70 KNOTS TAKEOFF !!!
Nice
I fly at this airport in Flight Simulator!
No it is Austrian German - a little difference. Germans can´t land in Mountains! Where should they train? In the hills of Bavaria. :-D
No just joking!
The Airline is Austrian
came here from wikipedia
That Tajo
all I do in fsx
I look like it for C-130
Yikes!!!
@theMagicMan555 Österreichisch ;)
Here hold my beer.... I can do that.
Ahead of the curve with the ”hold my beer” meme
Fake! It’s a game
Nice
