I stumbled across one of the first unofficial English translations on a google docs document like 4 years ago - and I will never be the same.
I found TGCF around 2 years ago when the 2nd physical novel came out. I found it through ColeyDoesThings, then saw it at a book store. I was like "oh yeah, I've heard this is good, let me grab it." AND THEN I WAS HOOKED!! I've been buying and reading the physical copies ever since and the last book just got released. A wonderful, wonderful journey finally comes to an end... at least for the books. But now there's a donghua and a manhua and a live action all coming out! I love seeing every single version of the same story, and I'm so glad you found it too!! :)

I think one of the most fascinating things about Hualian's relationship, in my understanding, is when Xie Lian caught Hua Cheng from falling their fortunes were switched. Xie Lian was lucky and beloved and just the best thing ever and Hua Cheng was, let's say, in a really bad place. And when they meet again their places are completely reversed. And I feel like, maybe even if it's my own head canon, but part of Hua Cheng's devotion is I owe you everything. Like, anything he has , money, palaces, power, life, he feels like Xie Lian is the reason for it and so he's willing to give anything he has to Xie Lian because to him it's because of Xie Lian that he has it to begin with. And I think he's opposite to Jun Wu (obviously, what a crazy prick) in that he's in awe of the fact that Xie Lian can come out the otherside of all that horrible shit basically a good person, that really bad wobble in becoming the white clothed calamity not withstanding. Because when Hua Cheng jumped off the wall he wasn't just trying to kill himself, he was trying to curse the whole country for how badly he'd been treated and even in the present storyline he only likes Xie Lian, everyone else he has no time for. But Xie Lian still cares about people and the world and Hua Cheng's just like how? and you're really amazing :)
I had a very similar path to MXTX. Scrolling Netflix and thinking it would be funny. But hands down, the funniest thing in the whole series is that Rain Master NEVER wins the lantern contest because she wants her followers to prioritize their own food over her clout. 😅

I’ve been a danmei fan since 2018; randomly I was scrolling through social media and found a Binghe x Shen Qingqiu art (Characters from the danmei SVSSS) and from there on.. since December 2018, my danmei journey began and it’s still not over. it's so funny how our experiences reading tgcf were so different XD i actually only became obsessed with hualian on the last book (yes, i am as feral for them as you are!! my parents!!!) but while i was reading i just loved all the characters and the plots and the backstories! hua cheng and xie lian are absolutely my favorite characters of the series, but i also have he xuan and shi wudu as my favorites (i loved black water arc so much lol yeh it's sad but it was so fkn good???! if i was a little less shy i would create a yt channel just to scream for HOURS about how much i love this book series. peak literature. i was smiling so much throughout this entire video, i love to see more people as in love with hualian and tgcf as i am XD

TGCF (and by extension the other two series) is my latest and honestly most powerful obsession!! 🤩My sister introduced to be to the cartoon sometime after she introduced me to Sasaki and Miyano. She informed me it was a Chinese BL and I was excited to see what the romance would be like... I was absolutely hooked! All the precious fluffy moments between HuaLian, the cool moments when there was fighting (romantic dance-like fighting in the Sinner's Pit anyone? 🥰) I was utterly lost. I watched the series three times (English dub, Chinese dub, someones reaction) and just devoured fanfiction after fanfiction of HuaLian goodness! Some included crossovers with Grandmaster, with my favorite being that one way or another they become the adoptive fathers to Wei Ying 😊! I've even started an MXTX corner in my room!! Love Season 2 so far, and as for the books, I've actually only read the first two volumes (though I have the entire set along with the other series). I finished Scum Villain a while back, loved it there were so many comedic moments, and I am working on Grandmaster. Love James Cheek as Hua Cheng!! 😍😍

AGREE I have the same reaction as you througout the journey to finish this entire series! 😂I also randomly found tgcf on netflix and start to watch it without any expectation of what coming up... and I progressed to devour the entire book in about a week I really love the entire interaction between hua cheng and xie lian (I can't stop screaming everytime the scene come out in the book). So my intro to MXTX was actually watching the Untamed and then reading Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. I read Heaven Officials Blessing after that. I’m not really normal about either of those series. Those two and Husky and His White Cat Shizun are the ones I am not normal about. And Word of Honor. I recommend all these things if you’re in it for the romance. I also totally relate to the wattpad thing. I started it when 4 volumes were out and read the other half on wattpad. Thankfully I found a decent translation. I have all the physical copies now though :)
So I've found it randomly on some dubious page were I watch anime (sadly polish netflix doesn't have tgcf 😢) and I loved it so I decided to watch something similar and I came across mdzs and I liked it even more because I could feel in it much more that there was supposed to be romance. At 2nd sezon I found out in the coments that there is a novel and it has romance and even spice so I dropped the series , same as you read it on wattpad and became obsessed. After that I couldn't find tgcf anywhere. Finaly I found the translation, started reading it and then when i was in the middle of it it was dalated. Couple months later I became desperate, found a page to buy physical version, I didn't mind enymore that it was expensive and in my second language and i bought 6 volumes (at that time it was all). Now that I finished it I'm obsessed. It has the best description of love I've ever encounter on, the dialogues, quotes and acts, i'm speachles. Now I don't know if I ever find love 'cause my standarts ar so high thanks to Hua Chang. Also Xie Lian backstory is so tragic and heartbraking and even after all that he's been through he still is so kind. I think we all should try to be like him. So that's how I've fallen into the rabbit hole called danmei and the only thing that I regret is lack of money.
I learned of SVSSS first, but after seeing clips on youtube I wasnt interested in the 3D. Then I stumbled on a react video of tgcf and was like, oh neat, one of MXTX's books and it's 2D? Watched a few mins of the youtube vid, then watched the whole Season 1 (S2 wasnt out yet). Was immediately captured after the first episode. Was obsessed during and after finishing the season. Brain was screaming about it while I tried to focus on the finals exam in front of me. Read the books, read fanfiction, looked at art, drew fanart, downloaded songs in the donghua to listen to offline, started learning chinese with the goal of someday reading its chinese version, convinced my friend to watch it together and he loved it too. Years of me being in different fandoms, and this is actually only the second time I got obsessed with a pair! i love them so muchh
I found it through the AMV crowd. It looked interesting enough, I think it had him fighting the demon on the bridge. Started the series, found the main character endearing, and was almost immediately bulldozed by the domestic fluff. After that it was, "Yeah, I'm gonna need more of this." and proceeded to binge the rest of the book series through fan made audio books and fan translations since it wasn't officially out yet. One thing that I really love about them is that their care for one another goes both ways. HC might might be able to light up 3000 lanterns as both a romantic gesture and a middle finger to the rest of heaven but XL tries to return those gestures whenever he can. Theres the part further into the books where Heavens Eye shows up and HC is like "Don't worry, I'll lead them away since I'm not in a state to fight them. And XL puts his foot down and forces HC to allow him to protect him too.

if you like fanfiction, and don't mind LONG stories try No Paths Are Bound by cataclysmic calamity on AO3 it gives a lot more time to hua cheng's, but it also realy dives into other characters' backstories. so if you're not into that it's probably not for you. it's over a milion words long and i swallowed that thing in 2 weeks i just love it

I relate so much to everything you're saying!! TGCF (and by extension the other two series) is my latest and honestly most powerful obsession!! 🤩My sister introduced to be to the cartoon sometime after she introduced me to Sasaki and Miyano. She informed me it was a Chinese BL and I was excited to see what the romance would be like... I was absolutely hooked! All the precious fluffy moments between HuaLian, the cool moments when there was fighting (romantic dance-like fighting in the Sinner's Pit anyone? 🥰) I was utterly lost. I watched the series three times (English dub, Chinese dub, someones reaction) and just devoured fanfiction after fanfiction of HuaLian goodness! Some included crossovers with Grandmaster, with my favorite being that one way or another they become the adoptive fathers to Wei Ying 😊! I've even started an MXTX corner in my room!! Love Season 2 so far, and as for the books, I've actually only read the first two volumes (though I have the entire set along with the other series). I finished Scum Villain a while back, loved it there were so many comedic moments, and I am working on Grandmaster. Love James Cheek as Hua Cheng!! 😍😍

So my intro to MXTX was actually watching the Untamed and then reading Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. I read Heaven Officials Blessing after that. I’m not really normal about either of those series. Those two and Husky and His White Cat Shizun are the ones I am not normal about. And Word of Honor. I recommend all these things if you’re in it for the romance. I also totally relate to the wattpad thing. I started it when 4 volumes were out and read the other half on wattpad. Thankfully I found a decent translation. I have all the physical copies now though :)
I just started Grandmaster of Cultivation and I can’t wait to be Not Normal™️ about another series!

So I've found it randomly on some dubious page were I watch anime (sadly polish netflix doesn't have tgcf 😢) and I loved it so I decided to watch something similar and I came across mdzs and I liked it even more because I could feel in it much more that there was supposed to be romance. At 2nd sezon I found out in the coments that there is a novel and it has romance and even spice so I dropped the series , same as you read it on wattpad and became obsessed. After that I couldn't find tgcf anywhere. Finaly I found the translation, started reading it and then when i was in the middle of it it was dalated. Couple months later I became desperate, found a page to buy physical version, I didn't mind enymore that it was expensive and in my second language and i bought 6 volumes (at that time it was all). Now that I finished it I'm obsessed. It has the best description of love I've ever encounter on, the dialogues, quotes and acts, i'm speachles. Now I don't know if I ever find love 'cause my standarts ar so high thanks to Hua Chang. Also Xie Lian backstory is so tragic and heartbraking and even after all that he's been through he still is so kind. I think we all should try to be like him. So that's how I've fallen into the rabbit hole called danmei and the only thing that I regret is lack of money.

I learned of SVSSS first, but after seeing clips on youtube I wasnt interested in the 3D. Then I stumbled on a react video of tgcf and was like, oh neat, one of MXTX's books and it's 2D? Watched a few mins of the youtube vid, then watched the whole Season 1 (S2 wasnt out yet).
Was immediately captured after the first episode. Was obsessed during and after finishing the season. Brain was screaming about it while I tried to focus on the finals exam in front of me.
Read the books, read fanfiction, looked at art, drew fanart, downloaded songs in the donghua to listen to offline, started learning chinese with the goal of someday reading its chinese version, convinced my friend to watch it together and he loved it too.
Years of me being in different fandoms, and this is actually only the second time I got obsessed with a pair! i love them so muchh

I found it through the AMV crowd. It looked interesting enough, I think it had him fighting the demon on the bridge. Started the series, found the main character endearing, and was almost immediately bulldozed by the domestic fluff. After that it was, "Yeah, I'm gonna need more of this." and proceeded to binge the rest of the book series through fan made audio books and fan translations since it wasn't officially out yet.
One thing that I really love about them is that their care for one another goes both ways. HC might might be able to light up 3000 lanterns as both a romantic gesture and a middle finger to the rest of heaven but XL tries to return those gestures whenever he can. Theres the part further into the books where Heavens Eye shows up and HC is like "Don't worry, I'll lead them away since I'm not in a state to fight them. And XL puts his foot down and forces HC to allow him to protect him too.

girl I’m mentally ill like for real and I’ve been obsessed with TGCF for 6 months since i finished the books and the season 2 of the donghua came out😂 I have a pinterest board with Hualian and more than 500 artworks of them saved on my ipad. And i’m crazy about fanfiction about them on ao3. At this point my danmei obsession is at its peak 😅 by the way, Grandmaster of demonic cultivation is really great you will love it! and there’s a mantua and a donghua of it too

if you like fanfiction, and don't mind LONG stories try No Paths Are Bound by cataclysmic calamity on AO3 it gives a lot more time to hua cheng's, but it also realy dives into other characters' backstories. so if you're not into that it's probably not for you. it's over a milion words long and i swallowed that thing in 2 weeks i just love it

@@Manninglicious Yes, it was the difference between me thinking I was just reading some "fanon" into it and realising - "oh, this is canon!". I can no longer remember what I knew going in, so it's difficult to picture how long it would take for it to click for someone who knew nothing, given the censorship.
I found it on Netflix’s too. Then I read it all. Then I brought the last volume for special edition cuz I wanted some merch. It was to pricy to buy it all. Loved it. Then I read scum villain. Watch it too. Then watched mdzs nd the untamed. Nd will prob start too read it tomorrow. I love fanfics on them tooooo.
