    • @prushimush
      @prushimush 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can keep the 5 speed, but you need to throw away all the auto trans stuff and run a M5OD-R2 transmission and run a flywheel, starter and clutch kit from a 96 F150 5.0. You'll get a CEL for missing trans controls unless you tune it out, as well. Other than that, it works fine.

      There is a way. M5OD-R2 from 97-03 F150 V6(has correct shifter placement), 96 F150 5.0 flywheel, starter & clutch kit. This whole setup will fit with your stock aluminum driveshaft and trans crossmember, and the clutch line plugs into the M5OD-R2. I did this to my '98 Ranger(formerly 2.5/5 speed, now 5.0/5 speed). • @prushimush
      @prushimush 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@redskies0004 97-03 M5OD-R2 from a 4.2 V6 F150, flywheel, clutch & starter from 94-96 5.0 V8 F150 are what you want. Finally, hammer the firewall to cab seam flat when you have the engine out of your Ranger and slot your trans crossmember bolt holes. Use your stock driveshaft and clutch line. This will get you a 5 speed 5.0 Ranger, I did it with my 98 2.5/5 speed to 5.0 and it works fine. You will get a bunch of transmission CEL codes unless you have it tuned out of the ECU, but you can run it with the auto trans 5.0 ECU.

    • @redskies0004
      @redskies0004 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      prushimush that is doable, thanks man I appreciate the info, now all that’s left Is to source these parts 👌🏼, but tell me... how badass is it. I have a 3.0 5 speed ranger and while it’s got some balls it’s slow. And you said using the auto Ecu would just throw codes? Are you referring to the auto ecu from the explorer? Just to clarify. All n all tho, sounds like an awesome project.

    • @prushimush
      @prushimush 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@redskies0004 It moves out pretty good. It's kinda like a 5.0 Foxbody Mustang if you've ever driven one, and you can do a lot of the same mods to it to make it faster. The light Ranger chassis and 5.0 torque is a good match and you can light the tires up easily. It sounds like a Foxbody as well. I need an exhaust on mine.
      Yeah, you'll get ECU codes only if you don't tune automatic trans control out of the auto Explorer ECU(which you will use on a swap) You can do this with a SCT tuner or send your ECU out to someone to have it done. TheEFIGuy & Drag Radial Performance(ebay) will do it. Once you get it tuned, you won't get any CEL codes and it'll run great.
      It's a good project and totally doable in your backyard/driveway if you need to do it that way. The 98-00 chassis is a perfect match for it too, since the engine harness plugs right in.

    I’m new to all this stuff. I’m not stupid but I’ve never done a swap and just started working on big vehicles always been on atvs and once an outback. So could you redirect me to a forum or tutorial on how to do a 3.0 to 5.0 swap, I have a 95 ranger xl and I could find a vehicle with a 5.0 or build the engine from scratch. Just need to know what to do for the swap, interior, mounts, etc.

    I'm planning an upgrade to 5.0 in my 2002 Ranger; how hard would you rate the project overall? I think you showed you needed to widen the transmission tunnel, but was that because the manual was smaller than the automatic? It looks like there is enough room for the 4WD transfer case under there... any thoughts?

    • @brevanhansen5084
      @brevanhansen5084 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably depends on what year of ranger, if you have a 98 and up (4wd) then it is the same front frame as the explorer, all the others (98 and up 2wd, and the older rangers) need adaptors that I assume bring the engine to a height that clears

    • @shadetreemechanic1790
      @shadetreemechanic1790  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oil pan clearance is good with factory explorer oil pan.

      I've seen a 7.3l turbo diesel and a duelly swap on a ranger. You can fit whatever you'd like in it, just how much work do you want to do? The 95 should be a direct bolt in swap from an explorer if you use the 302 engine.
