  • Rebellion leads to sin which can lead to destruction and death
We will see that today in Numbers 14-15
But first, welcome to Experiencing God 365 days through the Bible, Day 60
    Numbers 14-15 Psalm 90
    Numbers 14-15
    psalm 90
In Chapter 14 we see the people complain again and they turn rebellious
    14:1-4
Moses and Aaron fell to their face and Joshua and Caleb tore their clothes
But Joshua and Caleb, 2 of the 12 spies who are left, encourage the people and tell them not to rebel against the Lord
    14:9
Do not rebel against the Lord, and don’t be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the Lord is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!”
They had faith for what God said
But the people didn’t listen and began to talk about stoning Joshua and Caleb .. but God hears them and the Lord appears to Moses ..
    vs11-12
And the Lord said to Moses, “How long will these people treat me with contempt? Will they never believe me, even after all the miraculous signs I have done among them? 12 I will disown them and destroy them with a plague. Then I will make you into a nation greater and mightier than they are!”
But Moses intercedes for the people and asked that the Lord not destroy them and keep them from the promised land.
He recounts what the Lord said about himself 14:17-19
The Lord agrees to pardon the people but tells Moses that the people who treated him with contempt will never see the Land he promised to them.
    BUT 14:24
But my servant Caleb has a different attitude than the others have. He has remained loyal to me, so I will bring him into the land he explored. His descendants will possess their full share of that land
And with that, God turns them around from the promised Land and sends them into the wilderness in the direction of the Red Sea.
The people continue to complain, and the Lord is angered even more
    14:28-30
The Lord speaks, The complainers will get what they have complained about. Anyone over 20 will drop dead and their children will be like shepherds wandering in the wilderness for 40 years.
40 years in the wilderness is the price of continual complaining and rebelling against the Lord.
Then the 10 spies who rebelled against the lord were struck dead with a plague before the Lord
Only Caled and Joshua remained alive.
When Moses reported to the people of Israel what had happened, they were full of grief - and in hearing this the people decided they would go into the promise land instead of into the wilderness like the Lord had said. But Moses gives very wise advice and says hey God is not with you in this, don’t go.
But they didn’t listen and they pushed ahead and were attached and chased back.
In chapter 15 God gives further instructions on the Law concerning Offerings.
He goes through the different offerings like we have seen and what is pleasing to him.
He also talked about the first fruits and setting it aside for the Lord.
The Lord also covers unintentional failure to carry out the law and unintentional sin and how to give sacrifices and offerings for those things.
But if it is intentional .. Numbers 15:30-31
    Vs. 39-41
When you see the tassels, you will remember and obey all the commands of the Lord instead of following your own desires and defiling yourselves, as you are prone to do. 40 The tassels will help you remember that you must obey all my commands and be holy to your God. 41 I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt that I might be your God. I am the Lord your God!”
Psalm 90 - this is Moses’ prayer.
I’ll just share my favorite verse, verse 14 - but you should go read it - Moses understood how short life was and how insignificant man is compared to God.
Vs 14: Satisfy us each morning with your unfailing love,
so we may sing for joy to the end of our lives.
What stood out to you today?
Lack of faith comes complaining which leads to disobedience and destruction.
What if we looked at our complaining as a lack of faith. And we already know God does not like complaining. So stop it!
