COLLABORATION With My Wife!! Tattoo Arm Rest Fabrication and Upholstery!!

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 10 ก.พ. 2025
- On this episode of Make It Kustom, Kristina and I collaborate on a custom tattoo arm rest stand for our good friend Rustie who just opened up her own private studio called Kintsugi Tattoo. I did all the metal fabrication, including cutting out the base on my CNC plasma cutter. I had a fun time figuring out this ball joint 360 degree pivot feature! My wife killed it on the Mexican blanket/metal flake upholstery!!

A wife who works with her husband in the shop, and likes to make things. Dude, you're livin' the dream!
You two work good together, a couple of artistic geniuses. Congratulations on 7 years, Happy Anniversary. My wife and I celebrate 50 years this year.
Wow congrats to you too! I have no doubt we will make it there
Congratulations
27 year's with my wife, one trouble with love time fly's past ❤️✌️🇬🇧
Dang, i skipped this video for weeks because i thought a tattoo arm rest would be boring. Now i feel like i robbed myself after watching. Your thought process on making things is so impressive. The balljoint idea will be robbed by me for an attachment im making for a bench vise. Great work guys.
Awesome project, Kristina did an amazing job and was perfect on camera!!!
Thank you so much! I’m passing on the compliments to her as I read them!
As a retired chief engineer I can say that was beautifully done sir. Lovely craftsmanship! With Fireball Tool this is the best fabrication engineering channel on TH-cam. Your wife is impressively skilled at upholstery too, what a team!
Happy anniversary! So cool that the two of you get to do this stuff together!
Thanks so much Brad! It’s a bit of a dream come true working with her
*You guys are sooo **_Crafty_** ! Can't wait until you have your own television channel and town in Texas!*
A marriage made in heaven. Two Creative Geniuses. Well done guys, top job. Cheers from Michael. Australia.
Thanks so much Michael! We make a great team
Getting in front of the camera is a hard thing to do, it feels really awkward. You both do a great job and look comfortable doing it! Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much! She’s a natural she just doesn’t know it yet
Well done , as a tattooer I can definitely respect a well done arm rest. They are hard to find
@@MakeItKustom Tony Fitzpatrick aka Fitzee is from Newfoundland not Nova Scotia. Good job on the arm / leg rest
Is it a Bernina sewing machine??
I"ve become a huge fan, You two are rad!!! This is my favorite content to watch now. Keep it up!
Oh man thank you so much!
What a great project! You two make a great team!
i simply like your work
You guys are killin it! 👍🏻
Thanks Rick!
I'm fabricator myself the ball joint was impressive but the upholstery job real impressed me! Killer stand and bitchin team work!!
The ball joint is a great idea... it's all about how you can manipulate metal in various ways and then putting it to use. Great job!
The two of you are two pea's in a pod, extremely talented, and extremely entertaining. Thanks Mick.
Karl, you have every right to be proud of your lady, caught yourself a looker!! Nice job on the stand
Kristina is delightful. Congrats on your anniversary. My wife and I are at 43 years so far and she hasn't killed me yet. Beautiful stand.
I am so glad to see so many young enthusiasts using their hands, heads and hearts to build. From an old hot rodder, thank you for keeping the passion alive!
I appreciate this very much! Hoping to do guys like yourself proud for years to come. This craft is making a come back
Cute couple, you make a great team. Really enjoying your content. Looking forward to the Caddy build as well as other car projects.
Thanks a lot Dean! I can’t wait to get back on the Caddy too!
It’s a masterpiece! And the upholstery Kristina, it’s Rolls Royce! Lucky Rustie, she’s got fine friends. Here’s wishing you all and Kintsugi Tattoo all the very best.
That came together so well, I am amazed! You two together could fabricate those and sell them world-wide.
I'm new to your channel, but now addicted to it. You are an amazing couple, multi talented. I love your filming/editing style. I am an ex fabricator/engineer and honestly I'm envious of your workshop and equipment. I get frustrated these days, because I have the skills but no space, or equipment so can't create anything with my hands. So I watch you do it for me. 😃👍
Awesome job on the Tattoo arm stand. Great collab guys. Always cool creations coming out of the shop.
You two make a great team! I know what it's like to have the support of a great woman! Keep it up!
I never knew Fitz’s name was actually Tony. 😂. I’ve learned so much from Tony, just like I’m learning from you. 👍😎👍. Both of your channels are killing it.
Yeah he’s really awesome I love watching his stuff too! Thank you 🙏
I thought his name was “cut and butt” ! . He’s one smart fella
Two of my favorite channels. Great work!
He's from Newfoundland
Need to see more of Christina in the videos! She did an awesome job. You guys work great together!
That turned out so good. Yall are a perfect team. Great job
FITZEE IS A LEGEND...... I JUST SEEN A VIDEO WHERE HE MENTIONED YOU IN IT AS WELL.... THAT WAS A KILLER SET-UP BROTHER.... AND NOICE JOB ON THE PAD KRISTINA.... YOU TWO ARE THE "SMILE-EST" PEOPLE EVER!! "PERMA-GRIN MADE KUSTOM"
You are a designer and problem solver. As much as I liked this arm stand, I also appreciate the high level of cooperation between you and your wife
Wow, Karl another piece of superb craftsmanship and engineering, fantastic and also the work that Kristina has done to finish it, it looks shop bought, brilliant. Peter from Sheffield (Steel City) England.
I love when you make something new, and I have no friggin idea what you're doing, and then, like magic, the parts start coming together and it's like: holy crap, that's insane!
Thanks for another awesome vid! Hope y'all do more collaboration projects.
Thanks man I’m glad you look at it that way! I hope to do many more collaborations with her in the future although I feel like we’re collaborating on every video since she is the woman behind the camera and all the editing! There would be no channel without her
I love how excited You are bout the ball joint!! Sweet idea!!!
love to see a video on how you made your bead roller
Definitely something I would like to do in the future is a bead roller build with measurements and plans for anyone who wants them
Congrats guys on seven years.
Great work. When using stainless fasteners the general rule is to use different grades ie; 304 bolt with 316 nut or vice versa. The difference in hardness, along with nickel anti-seize almost always prevents galling.
Great video and awesome project! You two are great together!👍😊
Love how happy you were showing off the completed ball joint assembly! It's nice when you enjoy what you do!
what an Awesome team project!.. my daughter would love one of those !
I find it most amazing that a young pup like you knows how to use a manual lathe and mill. Wow. Great skills. They don't even teach that any more, everything is CNC. Great welding also. And lots of clever fixes that I might need some day. Keep it up.
Happy anniversary.
Best fab/welding channel around.
You guys are the dream team. The work you guys do is inspirational!
Thanks a lot ! We love working together
WOW Karl that was amazing on both of your parts and your such a great helper!!! Lol. Yall make a great team and your very talented young folks which is so awsome!!! And CONGRATULATIONS ON 7YRS!!!!
Thanks Dave I love working with her!
The two of you are skilful AND adorable💚
Don't change a thing.
Great video and the two of you working on a project together shows how much you complement each other. And doing something that is not directly related to the actual car projects you normally do it’s interesting, like you said you had to do a little brain scratching to figure out what you need to do. A few years ago I was in a retraining program for auto body/mechanics, the local vendor/ supplier had a problem with walking and getting into his high bumper cube truck. So I took it on myself to fabricate a folding step ladder to help him. The project was great and when I installed it he was so excited and taken back that I would do that for him he was almost in tears. And I just wanted to help him and make his life a little easier and it was fun to do and I feel good about doing it for him.
Lots of thought went into that design, and a great execution. Happy anniversary
Thanks so much Glen! Much appreciated
I have to get a tattoo now !! Awesome build clever idea with the ball bearing !
That turned out awesome. It was great to watch you two working on a project together. it's a really cool, rare thing you two have. You both do really good work.
Thanks man I am very grateful that we have what we have together. I know many people that probably would not like to work with their wife but I can’t get enough of it
The paperclips instead of pins for sewing is genius!
Congratulations on your anniversary!
My wife and I just got our new Japhands Hoodies and T shirts! Soo awesome!!
Thanks again you guys! Enjoy the rest of your trip!
Wicked Paul thank you very much I’m glad that you got your swag! Thanks for your support cheers
AN awesome build for sure. I really love the stand, and the "off the cuff" engineering that went into it! Happy seventh anniversary guys!
Thanks so much Toby! It was a really fun project
@@MakeItKustom Most welcome Karl. I had a couple of thoughts on refinements of the ball joint construction, but they really don't matter as you did a great job.
You guys are so cute together. Glad to finally see who the real boss is. Love these videos
A super job all around, got to see more of the fantastic duel, ok son time to give that little lady a corner of the shop,
Congrats on your seventh anniversary. Thanks for the great content, and love your awesome hot rod😎. 🤙
Thank you so much!
Very cool! I think that Mexican blanket cushion would make great street rod upholstery.
You and your wife are amazing I love watching and getting ideas on the sheet metal stuff thank you from Michigan happy anniversary
I'd love some more episodes on material science. I would of never guessed about the bronze on steel.
Yeah we can definitely get more into that the more I learn. Are you silicon bronze for a lot of metals
It’s technically not welding, it’s brazing, and the terminology matters because it’s how you can look up more information about it.
Welding gives a higher strength rating when it’s done correctly, but brazing is still extremely strong, sufficient for most people’s needs when connecting two pieces of metal, and when you don’t have a TIG welder and/or are trying to bond dissimilar metals, brazing is an awesome option to have in your arsenal.
That was a very nicely designed and built stand, I can see how handy and useful it can be. It's nice to see collaboration with your wife, you both are very presentable on camera. You two look happy together.
Next level fabrication!!! Awesome!
congratulations 🥳 to you both
Mr and Miss Make it Kustom
Awesome job guys
👍💯🇦🇺🦘🦘🦘🦘
Thanks so much man! Many more to come
Great job guys. You're wife did awesome. Shes like the bob ross of upholstery! Loved this video!
Ha ha Ha I’ll tell her you said that!
What a great duo you two are! Awesome brother. I love your channel even more now. Great build as always.
Fantastic work and video, and great to finally see "Your boss" on the video ;)
And of course a belated congrats on the anniversary !!
Man I love your videos. The plasma circle cutter, the way you wire frame projects, you have raised my skill level and I thank you. Plus, you have fun doing it, which is the best part. Be well and keep going. You deserve the recognition coming your way.
You guys are adorable. It's sweet to see you both enjoy designing, fabbing and making stuff as a team. You're a rarely compatible package.
Using the lathe as a welding jig is something I have never seen before. I like. Great job!
Thanks man use what ya got!
Nice to meet both of you! And as always another fun video!
You are a killer duet. Absolutely love your work and your teaching style is great! I second the shout out for Fitzees fabrications! He does amazing work with the simplest tools, such a talent
Absolutely wicked work!! Thanks for sharing behind the scenes for both pieces!
This is a great video. Neat the two of you shared the in the project. It turned out fantastic, neat gift.
Thanks for sharing.
Cutting foam, an electric carving knife is the bomb! Thrift shop and your set. Scissors are easily sharpened, take out the screw and replicate the original bevel. 80 grit works great for heavy stuff like what you are doing here. Dot of oil and you are set till next time. Easy for you!
Thanks 🙏 fir the tip!
Awesome work!!! Turned out great!! You guys are a great team!!!!
Thanks man I think so too!
Love the video you two are good craftspeople 👍
Thanks so much I’m glad you liked it!
That's an awesome collaboration.... metal art ... and the fabric part looks awesome, the process.
Thanks so much I had a fun time on this one
Turned out awesome. You two look like you have fun working together. She really good, you make a good team.
Thanks so much Stanley I think so too!
One of my favorite episodes yet, keep up the good work and happy anniversary to both of you! Phenomenal job on the stand.
Thank you so much I’m glad it’s one of your favourite episodes we really enjoyed working on this one together
Wow !! She is not only beautiful she is a creating artist. You two are awesome together and good hearted people a very nice gesture to a friend. Love the video. Stay safe and healthy thanks 😊
Thanks so much I passed on the compliment! Glad you love the video we had a blast making this one together
Well done guy's the finished product looked great.
I'm impressed by the joint of your welting cord, Cristina. That was a difficult thing for me when learning auto upholstery. It would be cool to see you set up an old Juki, glue pot, and 8 by 8 table in the corner of the shop and do some upholstery videos on the finished cars.
Great frame design. Great upholstery work. You've been upstaged by a new master! And happy anniversary too!!!
Thank you so much Kip! I agree she should be running the shell well she kind it is lol!
A little trick, turn your cover inside out to wrap it onto the foam, you especially have to do this if your recovering car seats, much like putting a pillow case on a pillow. Happy Anniversary!
Love your channel, love Tony’s too. Great job on the arm rest, it’s nice to do some non automotive stuff sometimes.
Thanks man I like the variety as well! Fabrication is fabrication!
You never cease to amaze me Karl. By far the best YT channel I watch out of the 42 I follow. Love ya work Mate. Billy J.... Queensland, Strail 'ya
Wow man that’s quite a compliment much appreciated Billy! Thanks for supporting us
You and your wife have great taste. Love watching and learning from your videos🤘
Thank you so much I’m glad to hear it! Cheers
That stand is insane! I'm stealing that ball joint design. Thanks for sharing.
Awesome then I hope you do!
Love you guys. Well spoken, articulate and a refreshing teaching style. I am restoring a 1956 International Cab over truck. All the best from Jantheman downunder in oz
You make amazing videos that are full of great education and very enjoyable to watch thank you!
Fitzee is the best. You two are awesome because of the amount of information you share. There are no secrets with you guys. Thank you so much for doing what you do.
Our pleasure! TH-cam community deserves to know everything
I particularly liked your shout out forTony at Fritzs Fab. All that is going to come back to you multiplied many times over.
You guys should make a shop stool together. Great project, as always!
As a tattoo artist myself, and a huge fan of your channel, This looks like a very sturdy and versatile arm rest. That ball joint will give a ton of movement and adjustability. I actually found your channel looking for English Wheel tips and have been hooked every since! Great job! Also, you should sell these, Id buy one.
Thanks for the feedback Scott I appreciate it! You never know maybe I’ll do a run of those!
Your wife did great after she got going. You just have to dive right in! I didn’t understand what the white paper was that went over the clear plastic before sewing. It finally dawned on me that it was probably to make the pressure foot of the sewing machine slide easy. And keep from making marks on the clear plastic? Gave me some ideas to build a better seat for my Honda Shadow 750.
Awesome project from the problem solving to the fab and upholstery..well done!
Thanks so much!
Using a lathe to center the ball and rod is a great idea. Also, knowing you can weld stainless steel and soft metal using a TIG welder and a special welding rod is good. Thank you!
So happy I found this channel. Great project and execution. Congrats on the anniversary!
My Guy, A trick I've used to drill stainless is to put a drop of Elmer's glue on the surface. It helps the bit "bite" I guess and get it started. I bought a commercial sink and shelf for my shop and needed to drill a few holes in it to mount it to the wall. It worked well on stainless sheet metal. Not sure what would happen with a thick ball like that.
Great project you guys! Kristina, you were fine on camera, don't be so hard on yourself. Keep up the awesome videos!
Thanks man I’ll definitely pass that along to her her confidence is already building!
All of a sudden this has become my favorite channel.
Awesome stand and team work! 👏👏👏😁😁😁
You're both done very well nice job
Man, everything I've watched that you guys produce holds my attention right to the end. This vid was really interesting. Great content, editing (no wasted watching time by me, no fluff content), and a big opportunity to learn stuff. Thumbs up, guys!
Top job all round. An angle grinder with grinding or flap disc does a great job smoothing corners and mistakes on foam!!!
Awesome and happy anniversary
