Yeah all this talk of his beastly strength and speed is not the whole story. I see that point. I see intelligence that gave him the platform to terrorise the opposition, like for example, he knows what he’s doing when he drives the man back to the point he can cut in and take the QB at ninety degrees to the line of scrimmage. The blocker loses track of how far back he’s getting driven then he cuts straight in and the QB thinks “oh shit, how did he get there and come at me from that angle”, then he uses strength and speed to get over any cover there and get the sack, that’s brains not just brute force. He looks like the way he plays disrupts the opposition, like the Larry Bird of football. You can’t stop him. No body stopped him from doing anything he wanted and if you won the game you still had a great respect and fear of #56... You kind of felt sorry for the poor tackle he faced that day, because deep down you knew he'd be destroyed...
So true… And I’ll never forget the night that he tackled Joe Thiesmann. He immediately leapt up I motioning to the trainers from Washington to get over. He knew right away that and Joe was in excruciating pain after the hit. That showed me that as intimidating and ferocious he was a player, he was concerned about the men as people behind the facemask.
Angela - I watched that game on tv live as it happened. Yes. LT was beside himself... He was so upset. And he was not the same in that game after Theismann got hurt.
I'd feel more sorry for the quarterbacks and running backs. LT would get a step to accelerate against a lineman, but against QBs or RBs, he'd have several, maybe more and he'd hit them with more velocity differential and therefore more force. It's no coincidence that Joe Theismann suffered a compound fracture of his leg (ended his career) after getting crushed by LT.
LT was so damn good that Joe Gibbs, former Head Coach of the then Washington Redskins created the H-Back position to try and help the TE and Left Tackle block # 56! And they still couldn’t block him! In my view, That’s all that needs to be said!
I have been a Giants fan since Taylor played, over 30 years. I'm sure he is the greatest defensive player ever. I wouldn't say player overall. Best defensive player and best offensive player is probably the best way to look at it He destroyed offenses. Like an Avenger. His superpower was offensive destruction
Great LT Story (relating to what Schlereth said) - People use to wonder how LT could anticipate plays so well. LT said, I would watch the linemen when they break the huddle. the one that would look at me, I knew he was the one assigned to block me; (C, LG, RG meant run play).
And what’s missing from the conversations is the fact that Taylor’s play elevated the play of the entire team. That is how true greatness is determined. Look at his determination, it rubbed off.
Loved the story about LT catches and striping ball carrier down field. He did the same thing to save a win vs Philly back then. LT was slot more than a pass rusher. Best tackler I ever saw, by far.
Best ever? I don't know. But Belichick knows a shit ton more about players then you, me, or anybody, so I'm good with thinking LT is on a mountain all by himself.
Lt was absolutely the most dominant player on either side of the ball and if you know football at all defense is the most important side I was fortunate to watch Lt play his whole career I’m not a giants fan but Lt was absolutely the most dominating player I have ever seen he was damn near unstoppable
Just a beast Mount Rushmore of defensive players Lawrence Taylor Derrick Thomas Reggie white ray Lewis and the rest is up for grabs lot of good players
One thing you also have to remember team's feared LT but they also feared Harry,Garry and Carl all 4 intimated teams because you can't concentrate on one player you had to worry about all 4
I’ve watch football my whole life I can’t tell you who is the best at what but I know one thing when I was watching Lawrence Taylor play he completely stood out And I don’t see a single player nowadays that stands out like he did from 1980s on I think there’s no one better the guy truly was unbelievable
He’s the greatest player I’ve ever seen. Better than Brady, Rice, Unitas, Lewis or White. He was completely ridiculous. Fast, strong, smart, mean and insane.
LT wasn't out there smiling and having fun. He wanted to dominate and hurt everyone not wearing a Giants jersey. He was mean and tough as hell. Modern players just don't play like that anymore.
Chris Newman Bill Parcells tried to take Reggie in the '85 Supplemental Draft but Ex-Giants GM George Young took LT Gary Zimmerman instead imagine if Parcells got his way it would have been the equivalent of seeing Lucifer&Jesus as teammates if one didn't get you the other would have.
@@dwightlove3704, IF the Giants had drafted Reggie White instead of Gary Zimmerman, you have to ask if the 1985 divisional playoff game vs the Bears goes down the same way.
Nick Wright shouldn't open his mouth in this conversation. Let the two players who played against the guy talk about him. Why does this guy even have a platform?
If anyone doubts Lawrence Taylor’s greatness, watch the Bowl Games that North Carolina, Chapel Hill played in from 1977-1980. These Bowl Games are on TH-cam.
Comparing Lawrence Taylor to Khalil Mack is like comparing Mohammed Ali to Butterbean. LT is by FAR the best defensive player to EVER play, PERIOD. He was so good, that in the original Techmo Bowl, not only was it IMPOSSIBLE to even get off an extra point attempt, let alone a field goal, because LT blocked 100% of the attempts. But, when he didn’t sack the opposing team’s QB (which he did 50% of the time), and the QB somehow managed to get a pass off, then LT would run 20, 30, 40 yards back, intercept the pass, then take it to the house! Khalil Mack? Give me a fucking break. Yes, he is awesome and one of, if not thee best in the current NFL. But, Ray Lewis is the next best defensive player to ever play the game after LT. Before Khalil, JJ Watt was the next huge thing. And before him it was Urlacher. There have been many awesome, game-altering defenders in their prime before that.... DeMarcus Ware, Darrel Revis, Jason Taylor, Warren Sapp, Reggie White, Deion Sanders, Bruce Smith, Mike Singletary, Ronnie Lott. But there most likely NEVER be a defensive player as dominant as Lawrence Taylor. It’s only a matter of time before Mack isn’t even on top of the NFL, let alone even NEAR LT!
Im taking Belichick's word more than anyone in this conversation. He coached the Giant's 80s defense and knew LT well.
He coached LT for most of the games of his entire career first as linebacker coach then defensive coordinator so yep right on!

He coached him of course
Carl. Didn't he coach LT in New York as a defensive assistant?
@@jeremyjames1659 you are correct brother!
@@jeremyjames1659 Bill was the defensive coordinator from 1985 to 1991. Brady is very lucky.
If LT isn’t best ever then who is?
None of those LT highlights would have been a call now... he was clean as hell. DOMINATION.
LT greatest player of all time! Period.
Defensive. Jerry Rice the best to me.. But I totally get why you say that.
Lawrence Taylor is Honestly a Legend...........Bill Parcels and Lawrence Taylor truly put the New York "Football" Giants on the Map 🏈🇺🇲✝️🙏❤️ 🏆🏆🏆🏆💍💍💍💍
When you watched LT, he made it seemed like he was a man playing amongst boys.
They are absolutely correct! LT greatest ever. I grew up a giants fan and was very young but I remember him. He was a beast
Bill's comments stood the test of time
Lt was absolutely the most dominant player on either side of the ball and if you know football at all defense is the most important side I was fortunate to watch Lt play his whole career I’m not a giants fan but Lt was absolutely the most dominating player I have ever seen he was damn near unstoppable
Just a beast Mount Rushmore of defensive players Lawrence Taylor Derrick Thomas Reggie white ray Lewis and the rest is up for grabs lot of good players
There is no player ever to play with as much fire as LT!
Lawrence( comment of Bellichek' comment)
" What he said" !
One thing you also have to remember team's feared LT but they also feared Harry,Garry and Carl all 4 intimated teams because you can't concentrate on one player you had to worry about all 4
My fave on that team #64 Jim Burt. I loved the 80's where 260lb nose tackles where the norm.
Not right, none of them got double and triple teamed like lt did!!!
The first and only linebacker that I have ever seen that could consistently drive a lineman back to the quarter back
I’ve watch football my whole life I can’t tell you who is the best at what but I know one thing when I was watching Lawrence Taylor play he completely stood out And I don’t see a single player nowadays that stands out like he did from 1980s on I think there’s no one better the guy truly was unbelievable
Interesting fact I found out the other day Lt
didnt play organized football till he was a junior in high school
Every left tackle in the NFL should send LT a check and a thank you for their contracts 😁
He’s the greatest player I’ve ever seen. Better than Brady, Rice, Unitas, Lewis or White. He was completely ridiculous. Fast, strong, smart, mean and insane.
Athletic, fast, and violent...
LT could TAKE OVER A GAME like no one before or since. The single GREATEST football player I EVER saw!
LT wasn't out there smiling and having fun. He wanted to dominate and hurt everyone not wearing a Giants jersey. He was mean and tough as hell. Modern players just don't play like that anymore.
LT elevated the play of his team..i swear his own players were more scared of him than the opponent...
LT might be the greatest player in my lifetime and I’m 48. Lifelong Cowboys fan and I loved LT!
Little LT I used to coach him back in the day when was the All-Star coach before I transfer over to the NFL
When great players talk about a dude like that. You can only imagine how great he really was.
Just imagined if Reggie White went to the Giants instead of the usfl cause the giants drafted him
LT and Leonard Marshall was bad enough. LT and Reggie would have been downright unfair.
White or Taylor. .best ever
@@xaviervega468 As stated before picture LUCIFER&JESUS as teammates the entire league would have been on lockdown!!!!!!!!!
@@dwightlove3704, IF the Giants had drafted Reggie White instead of Gary Zimmerman, you have to ask if the 1985 divisional playoff game vs the Bears goes down the same way.
It's amazing how so many people try to compare other players like mack or even watt to LT. It's a total disrespect to him.
Greatest defensive player to ever play the game and top 3 player to ever play the game regardless of position.
A reminder of the days when Cris Carter didnt let anybody talk...
He’s right. I’d argue that LT is the greatest player ever. Not only defensive player but player in general
Two classes;
1. LT
2. Everyone else
"We're talking about Lawrence Taylor here?" Trying desperately not to die laughing
Everyone hates when Nick talks. He probably never even watched LT play.
LT is in his own class! Just ask them opposing QBs 🤷♂️
"Were talking about Lawrence Taylor now" - Dam right!!!
It should be just Chris Cater on the panel. All he does is interrupt overtime anyway
3 speakers in a row Chris cut off in mid-sentence...watch Schlereth's face the 2nd time.
Chris Carter you were supposed to talk about LT not how many times you beat him lol
Nick Wright shouldn't open his mouth in this conversation. Let the two players who played against the guy talk about him. Why does this guy even have a platform?
Tell CC to shut up and let other ppl talk,
LT was a game changer and the man was truly feared on Sundays.
LT is arguably the best player to ever put on pads, definitely the best defensive player PERIOD. No shit Mack’s not on LT’s level wtf
Yet the trophy for LT's position is named after Butkus..........
justafanintexas what does that have to do with anything?
Butkus was way before taylor.he was great also but did not take over games like Taylor did
Jerry Rice> Lawrence Taylor
Jim Brown> Lawrence Taylor
Walter Payton> Lawrence Taylor
If anyone doubts Lawrence Taylor’s greatness, watch the Bowl Games that North Carolina, Chapel Hill played in from 1977-1980. These Bowl Games are on TH-cam.
best defensive player? please! LT BEST NFL PLAYER EVER
Belichick wasn’t personally disrespecting Mack. He was saying NO ONE will be in the same class as Taylor.
Unequivocally LT was the greatest football player I've ever seen!
Imagine being so great that people are talking about you like this and they are nearly speechless
Lawrence Taylor and Deon sanders are the two best players I've ever seen
Jim Brown was pretty good too...
Combined, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Walsh, and Joe Gibbs won 8 superbowls. They couldn't find a way to block LT.
Love Nick chiming in when 2 men who played are talking.
Cris let Mark talk!!!! Damn!!!
