    The thing that always blew my mind about LT was that not just the utter and complete domination of other NFL players (the best players in the world at their sport, the upper echelon of athletes on the planet, some of the hardest working, most dedicated guys around), but the fact that he really didn't work out. Never lifted weights or any of that. He just showed up and killed people week after week. Off the charts with physical gifts coupled with unbeliebable tenacity, competitive drive, and murderous intent.
    I mean, Bo Jackson was probably the guy on the other side of the ball with the greatest athletic gifts, but at least he'd work out to develop them. LT? Nah...none of that.

    I’m 50 years old, grew up in New York, watched L.T. His entire career and to this very second I haven’t seen or heard an over all better player in terms of defense. Just the mere mention of his name anywhere not only in New York sends chills down your spine. Speechless to this day. Scary talent one in a trillion

      @johnmartin9894 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm about the same. Almost 50 and also grew up in NY watching LT.
      In an effort to create content, commentary, or whatever...people always try to break down to the lowest possible granule "the best left outside LB to come from a school in the mountain time zone..." just so they can give some kudos.
      But there is no additional descriptor necessary with him. LT is THE greatest Defensive Player ever, no matter the position. End of conversation. And in my opinion...nobody else is really even close.

    • @johnliberty3647
      @johnliberty3647 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johnmartin9894 you are posting my exact thoughts. I have posted the same. Guys who have only seen highlights but never saw Taylor play entire games/seasons will never appreciate how great Taylor was. Any great LB/DE can make a highlight reel. LT was more than that, LT took over games and shut down teams. Run, Pass rush, pass coverage. Dude was completely dominant in all aspects of the game even on special teams. I bet if they put an 80 number on him he would have been an all pro TE.

  • @anagram8
    @anagram8 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I could be wrong, but I don't think anyone had any idea of just how dominate LT would be at the next level. I remember watching him the first 2-3 seasons of his career and he was must see tv. Defenders before him; Ray Nitschke, Dick Butkus, "Night Train", "The Deacon", Jack Lambert, "Mean Joe" Green and basically the Steelers entire defense and the criminally insane Raiders defense 😂 plus the scariest defense ever in the Bears for which he played in the same era with, but LT came along when the league was primetime all the time. He was as mean and nasty as all of these dudes put together plus the best athletic on the field regardless of position on any given Sunday. LT was the first defender I ever saw consistently chase a play from the opposite side of the field. Players like Eric Dickerson, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders all hall of famers and two of which rushed for over 2,000 and Walter Payton ran for over 3,000 yards. Walter Payton, "the only man who could turn a 6 yard loss into something spectacular!" 😂He not only out ran his teammates, he had the juice to finish the play with ferocity and the Giants had a top notch defense without LT. Best LT line, "son ya'll gonna have to do better than this!"

      Uhh... Talking bout smoothest RB's in the NFL. Did you forget about the great Walter Payton who played along side these other great RB's back in the day my friend? No disrespect to Eric but there's a few good reason why Walter's nickname was "Sweetness." It wasn't only Payton's beautiful demeanor as a man that he was off the field that made people call him Sweetness. It was also the way he moved so smooth & graceful like a Russian ballerina dancing on stage. Just saying... Let's keep it a buck here, cool? 🤔😉

    Wow! A funny story. I was in the 4th grade when Dickerson joined the Rams, but I already knew who LT was (living in the DC area…the old NFC East). LT was like the Giant that ate everything in his path. I didn’t realize at the time that Eric Dickerson was actually BIGGER than LT, but it definitely didn’t matter…especially not to Dickerson!!! That’s some serious intimidation when a guy the size and with the athleticism of Eric Dickerson is goin’, “I can’t block no Lawrence Taylor!!!” Seriously, LT is THE most dominant player I’ve seen in my lifetime. No one else is close (and that includes a whole lot of EXCEPTIONAL defenders). He was the one defender in my lifetime who caused opposed teams to build their whole offensive strategy around neutralizing HIM…because he could dictate the ENTIRE ebb and flow of the game BY HIMSELF!

    Eric said it. Tenacity. LT could run from one side of the field to the other to make a tackle, then do that 50 or 60 more times in a game .He didn't always get there, but he had everyone looking out for him every play.

    The only other players I saw play with around his level of tenacity consistently at a high level was Ray Lewis, maybe Brian Dawkins with those early 2000’s philly teams. Those are just two that jump to my mind when I think defense. On offense even though he wasn’t an all time great I thought Steve Smith played WR in the same spirit LT and those other guys I mentioned played defense. All dogs

    I am 80 years old, white woman who has always, always loved/loves football. This is early 80's, no streaming, watch whatever games are being played. Giants vs who knows. I see LT for the 1st time. Never had I seen Man that big move so fast in all my years of watching football. Gotta be a one off, no one that big and strong can move that fast. LT could and did. Thank you Mr. Taylor, for all the games I watched you play in. See Joe Montana and the 9ers was number 1, cause I love Joe, watching LT was number 2. Strange thing, except for Stabler and the Raiders never was a team person. I always went for a person on a team and they were mine. Today, I love Pat Mahomes, he is just such a mover. Brady had a good arm, won a lot of Superbowls, just don't know why I don't like him.
