QB sacks weren't even a statistical category until LT's 4th or 5th season in the NFL. He is, by far, the most dominant defensive player in the NFL. Ever.

That fact there a debate between brady when qbs are everyhting now to a lb in the 80's?? When linebackers barely got sacks or impacted the game to such an extent? Maybe im a bit biased tho too idk

I completely agree. Lawrence Taylor is last player to get MVP, which almost always goes to a quarterback, and he turned the Giants into a Superbowl-winning team as a ROLB. Tom Brady may be the most accomplished football player, but football is a team sport and those statistics and records he has require other players to catch the football.

Part of this is based on the idea that non QB's often don't like QB's. Pretty boys, they make the most money, they aren't in the trenches getting hit all the time and all of that. It's also a bit like trying to compare a pitcher to a left fielder. The skill sets and roles within the game are so different that they are very hard to compare in terms of impact.

Stats could never tell the story of LT. how about he was triple teamed entire games and that's the reason a lot of you think Leonard Marshall was great til this day. LT didn't care about stats just winning. doubled and tripled opening up plays for other guys causing Giants to win without putting a stat up. then LT didn't rush the qb every play, he was a linebacker who dropped back in coverage a lot of pass plays. in an Era that didn't have nearly as many pass plays in 1st place. LT still compiled a lot of stats regardless but getting superhuman effort and intensity from the most talented guy on the field every week is why the Giants were good his whole career. I watched every game the guy played in. the guy was the greatest period. changed the game in many ways.

Either Tom Brady or Jim Brown. I give the edge to Jim Brown. Brady for the reasons Dan mentioned but Jim Brown for his dominance. The man led the league in rushing every year. They could not stop him. At all. It was inevitable domination. It was like Ezekiel Eliott going against 8th graders. LT would get stopped and shut down in some games. He would not dominate 100 percent all the time. Jim would dominate 100 percent all the time. Jim Brown would destroy everything that was in front of him. He was unstoppable. He was like a created player in madden for that era. And he retired in his prime
      I got
      1.Jim Brown
      2. Brady
      3.Lawrence Taylor
      4.Montana
      5. Walter Payton
Jim Brown was a different caliber of dominant. Compared to the NBA - he was like a rich mans Wilt Chamberlain as it compares to his own era

Since the Rams won the 2022 Superbowl some people saying Aaron Donald is the best defensive player ever but no one was a dominant as Lawrence Taylor on defense. The guy played with a broken arm and forced a fumble and sacked even then. He was so dominant he made other players forgot snap counts and made players literally forget plays because they were so focused on LT out of literal fear so yeah LT was the best. At least for now.

Sports prime in the USA was the 1980's as a whole and some of the 90's. Just a fact. The best of the best ever. LT, Montana, Barry Sanders, Reggie White, Ronnie Lott, Thurman Thomas, Dan Marino (who handed the Bears only loss), Elway, Jerry Rice. Just the names of these players are rockstardom names. Then you got Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemiuex, Jordan, Bird, Magic, Shaq, Hakeem, Ewing, Don Mattingly, Daryl Strawberry, Jose Canseco, this era as a whole. Ken Griffey Jr sweetest swing ever, Cal Ripken. The names of these players were 2 cool for school. Tom Brady sounds like someone who works the Organic farmer's market guide stand in New Jersey.
