  • The tv licence letters are annoying for many reasons, a lot of it are the threats, but a lot of it is the cost. If I paid the licence I wouldn’t be happy about this

It was done some years ago. The case was successful. But the court decision was that it was not binding for future behaviour by TV Licencing.
In other words, everyone who wants to stop this nonsense has to sue, either individually, or as a collective group, on a case by case basis. That is expensive, and you might not win.
TV Licencing flatly refuse to register a complaint on the matter. I tried. They refused to even make a note of it. Arrogance.

    • @AzguardMike
      @AzguardMike 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +26

i took a goon to court years ago for harassment, criminal damage and public disorder.
the TL:DR is i dont own a TV license. Opened door on a intruder chain latch and the goon refused to remove his foot and forced the door off the latch. When confronted by my partner who is a cop, the goon left and ragged the bin up the drive into the car and kicked the gate panels off. Was all caught on CCTV on the house, took Captcha to court and got a juicy pay out. During the weeks leading up to it, the house mysteriously got prank calls all hours of the day, a unmarked black van was parked out front and drove off whenever one of us approached it. Was later found to be the TV licencing goon stalking us and another court case was held.
Partner has since been forced to retire. The judge at the hearing ended it by saying to us, and i quote "and for gods sake, do us all a favour and buy a TV license." We refused of course.

Your faith in the judicial system is misplaced. You think they care? The only thing left this country cares about is power, and to some extent money much as this country is showing signs of being bankrupt if like me you stand to inherit quite a bit. From what I can gather, they ain’t got it!!!! They’ve spent it. Why our darling Government is over 1 trillion in debt, and they borrowed your savings, the equity in your house etc. cash it in and to me anyway, it’s pretty obvious they ain’t got it. Because they’ve spent it though they’ve made plenty out of it so really, they’ve stolen it.

I'm loving the envelope, with it's special window showing in bright red lettering "Official notice: investigation opened".. 😂 And the letter itself is very scary lol.... I've got an official warning that they are carrying out an investigation at my address blah blah blah, and if they don't hear from me, then I will be getting a visit from their enforcement team..!! 😮😮😮 And I can't wait lol.... I am so looking forward to letting them know that they are not officers, not enforcement of any kind, that they are sales people with a product I do not require, and to say goodbye politely as I shut the door 😂😂
I do like the PS at the bottom of my letter though... "P.S. If you have recently bought a licence, thank you. You do not have to reply to this letter"..!!!

Since stopping the licence I actually view more TV. I've found on demand much better and TH-cam is great viewing with channels such as yours and catching up on all the old films I love. No way going back with politics rammed down my throat with the BBC. Catch up is also great for the rest of the family.

Hi Jon, I have never regretted cancelling my tv licence in September 2022. I rang up tv licence and told them I no longer needed it, got back £80 ! I haven’t had any letters as yet or a goon visit. I enjoy watching what I want when I want, thanks for the tip about Sky News as used to watch that when had tv licence.

BBC Studios and their £B a year. And you still get screwed on the licence fee. They dont pay, alot of people in showbusiness hate them. ITV are the same, use you and dont pay.

  • @craiguk82

Two things; more households have cancelled than ever before so this cost will only ever increase. Secondly, the BBC are happy to waste this money because they will use it as a selling point to bring in a media tax on our broadband or council tax bills, by saying look what we'd save if that's brought in.
I'm going to assume they'll tax our broadband, as that will bring in the younger people such as students.
Freely has launched I believe which brings Freeview channels via the Internet and I think that's the future of TV. Makes sense to tax broadband then. Enjoy not paying while we can!

I would write - yes, _write_ as in handwrite - back, telling either 'to whom it may concern' or the signatory of the most recent letter, that as they were previously informed in December of last year, Mr J Bloggs no longer resides here at 27 Acacia Avenue.
As a consequence, this address is now legally unlicenced and will remain so.
All further correspondence for Mr Bloggs should be sent to his new address which is Plot 15, St Whoseit's Cemetery, Church Rd, Sometown and NOT to 27 Acacia Avenue.
I would ask for acknowledgement that this letter has been received and acted upon, and sign off as The Legal Occupier of 27 Acacia Avenue.
Then I would splash out and send it Recorded Delivery - and wait to see what happens.
More seriously, you could also write back asking if they have ANY IDEA how distressing it was to get this letter addressed to Mr Bloggs, your dad, when you had explicitly informed them of the reason for cancelling the licence. Their record keeping is obviously in a shambles and do they have no compassion whatsoever? Again tell them you expect a response on this, and send it off by registered post.
Make them face up to the consequences of their heartless, incompetent actions.
Remember these are the people who gave a lady with Downs Syndrome, no competency to manage her own money and no real understanding or awareness of TV licences, a _criminal record_ for not being able to produce one on a visit by their disgraceful goons.

  • @rayro999

You do still get the sh!tty letters if you call them up to cancel the licence.
I phoned up in March 2023. I was polite and the lady on the phone was helpful and it was cancelled.
August/Sept 2023 i started getting the harrassing letters to 'the occupier'.
Before Christmas 2023 I had Five, the last one the threatening one saying they will visit in December - day or evening, weekday or weekend.
These letters only made me MORE Determined that they will not get one penny from me.
So far, no visit and one more letter a month ago.
They remind me of the Mafia running a protection racket.
    STUFF 'EM

Not addressed to me the "legal occupier" isn't me or variations on a theme, when I did have a TV licence they sent me threat-o-grams with my actual name on, because they cocked up. I stopped watching television all together a few years later I don't even bother with catch-up or any of the other things that would be legal to do. Buildings mail is downstairs anything from them I throw out as I leave the building unopened we used to have a rubbish shut, I look forward to just throwing away their next letter!

If they shifted to the same model ITVX uses, they'd get more money out of me on occasion than they do now, which is nothing. I might just buy a subscription for a month to watch a few things that I want to, I won't with the current model as their behaviour is shameful.

Haven't had a TV license in well over a decade and don't miss terrestrial television at all! The one thing that worries me is the probability that the license fee will eventually be replaced with an internet tax. The double whammy will be after the tax has been imposed the Beeb will then do ads anyway to raise revenue!

I am not a "licence fee dodger". I just don't legally require one. But keep the letters rolling - keeps Royal Mail in business and gives me plenty of paper to make firelighters. I do pay for whatever streaming service I'm using at the time and sometimes that includes Britbox via ITVX. I'm legal and can't be harassed into something I don't need.

Its like so many government tax payer funded departments (believe it or not, there are some who are self funded and actually give money back to the treasury, like the Patent Office or whatever they call it this week), its not their money and they are not really needing to make a profit, they don't answer to shareholders and they don't need to worry about the money to keep them going, so they care nothing for wasting it. They aren't the only ones, as every government and tax payer funded job I have had has had the same level of waste, be it spending on things that loose money, wasting supplies or the most annoying when you work there, management that have so little to do that they spend half the time just wandering about chatting while telling staff they aren't doing enough work and could do more (four different ones I have worked in have all been the same).
You can see why so many government departments like the BBC would benefit from being privately owned or at least managed, as it would make them more financially efficient. That said, many ex government run things like utilities that make their owners money hand over fist, prove that if state owned an run well (so a impossibility as for one, to many politicians and their backers make money from how it currently is, plus they would instantly start to loose money as 3rd party contracts to siphon off cash at inflated prices would be the first thing that would happen if they were state run) they could pay into the treasury as well on top of allowing for easier price regulation. But as with all things, its about how much profit politicians and their backers can make, not how much they can help us.

  • @meh78336
    @meh78336 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

They should be privatised with only the news at a basic level and parliamentary services retained. Privatisation requires accountability and maximisation of profit, so Its unlikely that would ever happen.

  • @AnythingForSouls

they would probably save money by scrapping it if you take into account the paper and printing cost which will all be automated so they have to pay for the service for that as well on an industrial scale and the royal mail delivery costs and the capita enforcement wages than actually spending all that to enforce it they would lose the income from the licence but it probably evens out with enforcement fees.
