sweet rig. had a few over the years myself. the last one i had i had a spring over axle in it with a nissan z24 engine and auto tranny . had big cam and would run around 200 hp with a 100 shot of nitrous. worked good. long time since i seen one that stock. think it was the 88.5 i bought new which the wife barrel rolled down the road with 54,000 km's on it
Cool to see this thing running. I met Doug on the rubicon last summer, and I picked up an engine from him a while back. I saw this Sammy while I was there. I love seeing dead rigs brought back to life.
Awesome! I'm working on it now...New coolant reservoir, some wiring repair, new headlights, fluid and filter changes, and some cleanup. I'm hauling it to central oregon this weekend...hope I've flushed out all of the bugs!
Suzuki later sold.....(in Europe - not UK) a Suzuki Jimny with a 1.5 litre Renault turbo diesel.......nice and very useful little car.....emphasis on little, the problem was you rub shoulders with your passenger. We sold it and bought a UAZ 469B that had been converted to 2.4 Litre Andoria Diesel.....another excellent 4x4.
Love this thing ! I've been driving a Samurai (in good weather) for 18 years, about 5 years ago I swapped in a 1.6 out of a Sidekick, my gawd .... 80 mph right now . There's a video on my youtube about the swap if you're interested. Have fun on your trip
Hey Mark! Yeah, I've done a handful of 1.6 swaps as well; my last Samurai had the 8 valve with the stock sidekick EFI. A worthwhile upgrade over the 1.3 for sure. I also had a sidekick I swapped a 2.3 Aerio engine into (that video is here on my channel). That kind of spoiled me for the 1.6 swaps; that thing was quick!
I had a isuzu pup i got for free and a wrecked chevy luv diesel for 500$ with no title, swapped the diesel into the pup. Great little rig, i really regret selling it. Had a toyota exhaust system laying around i through on it with a flow master, told people it was a toyota motor with a rod knock when they asked why it sounded like a diesel 😂 now i just picked up another samurai and doing something real stupid, going to put a 3 cylinder geo metro motor in it as a gas milage slow speed gravel road hunting rig
We will see how it works out this weekend! I have Thursday and Friday set aside to do some serious wrench turning. Need to fab up a pressurized coolant reservoir, finish the headlight swap, find a spare tire, do fluid and filter changes, come up with a battery tie-down, and maybe some kind of stereo system. Then, I need to pack for the trip. Those are going to be a long couple of days!
