    I don`t think the average person comprehends the psychotic effort it takes to be an elite bodybuilder. It`s not just the insane painful hours in the gym, but the equally hard dieting and resting the sport demands and the food expense. And you also have to become an expert in understanding your body and how it responds to particular methods of training and pretty much conducting a scientific experiment . I see bodybuilders as painters with dumbbells creating the perfect art work with their body. I have tremendous respect for them, they sacrifice so much.

      Discipline yes, but the most selfish, lonely, egocentric, narcissistic activity ( yes as it is not a sport!) not to mention the `chemical` side of it which is a clear indication of drug addiction & not being right in the head! WOW, I so look up to these people...

      Andreas Neophytou people love to be dismissive for stuff they can't do. You're buff? Steroids. You're rich? Crook. You're beautiful? You're dumb/had surgery. It's sad. The disgusting remarks about women bodybuilders is sad. They dismiss them as ugly. Never mind how intense they work out and how disciplined they are.

      True, theres no doubt, and sometimes its illogical to yell out "STEROIDS", IFBB Pros will certainly use Anabolics. Its just those people who have zero knowledge of the bodybuilding industry that are oblivious. Phil Heath is naturally gifted in his genetics, but i bet his work ethic is beyong my imagination.

    David has a point. Look at boxing for example. According to history they have been 500 deaths due to brain trauma following a boxing bout but Boxing is still a huge business. The point is, it all comes down to how you promote your product. And as fan of Bodybuilding, they need a true promoter.

      @@VALUETAINMENT To have a "True Promoter", Bodybuilding has to get ALL parties involved actually *INVOLVED*
      Currently Bodybuilders, Nutritionists, Motivators, Trainers, Educators are all in but the key component is silent and hidden. Intentionally.
      The Medical Community & Big Pharma NEED to be as big a part of promotion as the rest or that "True Promoter" will Never become a reality. And I'm NOT talking typical Sports Medicine as it is currently involved. I'm talking A Medical Community that Recognizes the relationship and importance of Steroid and Human Growth Hormone use in the industry and how to incorporate it going forward as a professional career and lifestyle choice.

  • @Will-if7wp
    @Will-if7wp 6 ปีที่แล้ว +40

    Maybe I’m wrong, but what I took away from this interview was that I was amazed how someone can be so focused, strong, smart and disciplined in one area, but lack a bit of confidence in another. This is not a put down in any way. I feel like Pat sees a potential in the sport and in Phil that Phil doesn’t yet see. I wasn’t convinced that he realizes how powerful social media is and the potential that he has to get himself out there. He doesn’t need Arnold or Dwayne to get his name out there.... he is enough. He can self promote and do anything of the things that he was wishing for on his own.

      @johnchase4408 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      But for Phil, he can't see combining the two successfully without compromising the Training aspect of it. To him it's balls to the walls, all or nothing. And being old school I feel the same way. I have zero time for camera angle, photoshop and editing. Anything given to this portion of the popularity contest would steal quality from the End Goal. It takes a level of balance that I certainly don't have and I think Phil feels that way from watching this interview.

The spirit of gratitude Phil showed demonstrates Patick's leadership ability to evoke strong emotions & offer practical advice to take immediate action. Phil's solid understanding of diet, exercise, determination and business are all examples of why he should start documenting- video, written, or audio- his abilities and experiences to start connecting with an audience that will allow him to bring the business and social exposure he envisions for the bodybuilding industry. Because he goes out there and prompts himself. He makes, youtube, ig, and fb post. He does more guest appearances then any other body builder out at this moment. I was stationed in Bahrain and Kai had 3 guest performance shows in Bahrain and the first hour all tickets were sold out. The craziest thing is i was like i go to dubai to see Kai, but those tickets where sold out as well. These shows hold up to 1000 or more seats and first day it was sold out in Bahrain, Dubai, Pakistan, Kuwait, and India online i was like wow thats something special.

This sport is 24/7 and thank you to the guy interviewing because he really helps by having this video. Very smart and educated and this video also, shows that we bodybuilders are not just meat heads. I think this was a GREAT interview, HOWEVER...Phil circle-jerking around the conversation about the steroid side of the game is unfortunate. He tried so hard to NOT expose the use & abuse of of these compounds, it was embarrassing to watch. The conversation NEEDS to be had. Its an integral side of the sport of bodybuilding. If the sport is looking to move forward and more in the publics' eye...then they better prepare.

      The conversation needs to be had in the Medical Arena. A Bodybuilder discussing it isn't going to demystify anything and it won't stop the vilification of Steroid use. The other thing about it is that 100 bodybuilders will NOT have the same effects happening within their bodies. Speaking to known, unknown, predictable and unpredictable side effects on said bodies. Unfortunately, until a Steroid is utilized and effects are tested and measured, one won't know how it will effect them. That being said the Medical community needs to study these compounds intensively and comprehensively to create the safest possible way to utilize each Steroid. Otherwise these guys would just lose sponsorships and have people getting sick and dying saying, "I did everything you did", "you said it was safe", "and I'm dying", etc, etc,.

It may be good thing for them emotionally to not be judged but how will they overcome there flaws or strengthen there self esteem but rising above all the BS this is the difference today and why these kids crumble (not all) but most under stress and criticism and failing…. Great interview Pat and Phil. I relate to much of the interview as I remember back to 6th grade. I started lifting weights and really getting into bodybuilding. It did wonders for my physical and mental health. I loved and still love what it teaches people concerning self discovery. Body building helped me grow and developed through discipline, motivation, setting goals and keeping commitments. I will be 50 in June own a company and work out 3 times per week. I owe a lot of my good health to getting involved with body building. Thank you Phil Heath for being a great leader in this industry.

    Great interview Pat, my work ethic came from bodybuilding at an early age, no shortcuts or hack as they call it today, just hard work, dedication and committed to being the best! Phil/Mr. O and the whole bodybuilding community deserve way more recognition than they’re getting, as they have so much knowledge and inspiration that they can share, yet nobody is capitalizing on it… in a meaningful way. It’s going to take some time, and the right moves for the bodybuilding industry to catch up… or fade away like blackberry to stubborn to change until it’s too late. I believe Pat you just opened the door, let’s see who walks through :) 

    Funny enough, I am called a "meathead" but studied engineering, and build stuff for fun besides being an entrepreneur. People assume athletic looking people and athletes have no brains, so they often play themselves on that false assumption. Very useful for my business, I won't discourage them.

      @enonymuz8627 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well theres no correlation between muscles tissue on your body and brain right. Very true but well nowadays nerdy-smart too much study people probably don't have as much time to build their bodies to the level of Arnold or lots of them probably really don't care about bodybuilding.

    • @TheDezminator
      @TheDezminator 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wake up early. My day starts at 6am Sunday to Sunday no one does business before 8am so you have that window to prep meals and read mails / plan out your schedule/ do sets of push ups, abs and squats before showering. You never know how your day will be so at least fix a time to close shop. Say 7pm, no more business work (unless it's worth it), try to get an hour of training per evening, more if you really have nothing else planned. Weekend mornings usually people don't get up early for business, so you have till 9-10am to train if you are going to have a meeting or something, if not train till 3pm, then go socialize/ family weekend time / relax. That's my routine.

    • @RadyoMusic
      @RadyoMusic 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Valuetainment Bodybuilders are athletes, which means it does take great self control, consistency and sacrifice to be the best. The tracking of everything food item you put into your body, making sure you get a decent sleep, self motivating yourself to go hard in the gym and on top of all that he worked at an establishment that was mentally and physically demanding (were he also went the extra mile to soak up the systems and process of how to run a business). That’s amazing. There is a bit of dishonesty when looking at Instagram which at time makes the sport look easy when in reality that is far from the truth. You need to be obsessive with your passion. I need to be obsessive with my passion!

    I do think that for bodybuilding to blow up that there needs to be more exposure for Phil. He is the champ, he’s also a great representative for the sport. Someone who’s able to showcase that there is more to bodybuilding than the average person thinks. For a sport to become prominent there needs to be that larger than life personality with the spotlight on them. Look at McGregor and what he did for the UFC. I think Phil can do the same in his own way for bodybuilding, it’s just a matter of him getting the exposure.

    Great interview, Patrick! I watched it allll. Loved the discussion on Phil leveraging his status as a TRUE ELITE ATHLETE and a celebrity to further impact on others' quality of life and to take bodybuilding to new levels. I believe that the media, for whatever reason, moved from promoting and praising the muscular build to promoting the lean look. You can even see it in the transformation of how superheroes are portrayed. Meanwhile, like Phil said, it's still burnt into our psyches. We pose like bodybuilders to demonstrate winning or conquering something or just to show how fly we are. Much love from Barbados, Phil! Hope you return!
