  • Coolant leaks where very common on the mk4 1.8t and Audi 1.8t TT. The composite gets weak and brittle over time and causes coolant leaks. Add on to that engine oil leaking on to the housing will make it worse. Eurowise developed an aluminum upgrade kit for your 1.8t.

    Be sure to file down the cast aluminum edges on these parts. Some of the cheaper coolant flanges have chunks of cast inside the flanges them, which easily break off.

    I have metal shavings in my coolant reservoir 😂 dealing with the coolant system in the TT 225 is such a pain. I need these flanges!

    Loving your 1.8t. I'd also like to add your rubber hoses are not a Lifetime item in your car, be it for the coolant, air (vacuum) or oil they all fail and usually, you're far home when they do. So if you are investing in your peace of mind with these aluminum parts don't short on the other wear and tear parts. Their failure will cost you more money sooner rather than later and if you own a VAG vehicle, buy quality parts from a reputable supplier, while many great things come from China, cheap low quality knock-offs are not.

    I wish they made these for the mk3 ABA motors they make all the good stuff for the vr6. Ive had the car for 5 years now and gone through atleast 5 of these. Tried a fancy water pump gasket maker on a new one last night we'll see how it lasts

    I was using a pvc delete and I had to upgrade to a catch can.. cause it leaked all over this housing on mine .. caused the seal to leak ..now i have a bullet proof system and it looks fancy..

    my distribution pipe just went out last night lol. There was about a 1" hole right on the top. Let's just say coolant is everywhere!

    I'd love to know what material the factory plastic from VW is. It does perfectly fine when it's new, but time seems to turn it into a brittle sponge. Every bit of plastic coolant pipe on my 19 year old VR6 smooshed into oblivion when I rebuilt the top end a few years back!

    3 years later, what is the situation with aluminum oxidation? Is it actually still possible to remove the coolant sensor to change it?

    FYI, the coolant flange on the drivers side will not fit properly on my 03 Jetta 1.8T with an automatic. The factory fitting exits through the side to the transmission heat exchanger while this one exits through the bottom which puts your small coolant line right on top of the shift cable mount of the starter. I did manage to make mine work but I will need to watch the hose for stress damage due to the hard bend.

    make sure your O-ring INSIDE the quick connect hose (hose with metal clip) is not flattened. I replaced a similar part on my 1.8t A4 and it leaked and i had no clue what it was.

    Hey I have an 04 golf 1.8t and I’m getting the aluminum flange but the problem is the hose at the bottom is currently cracked and coolant leaks. Would you happen to know where I can get one of the hoses or where that hose connects to so I can find it?

    How do you replace the temp sensor coolant flange on the 2.5? I can't find any info about it. I've taken off the nuts removed the metal pipe and removed the nuts behind them as well but it still won't come off

    Anyone have a problem with the coolant temperature flange connecting straight to the engine block on the TT 225 engine? This is the flange that has the sensor attachment. The piping is a bit different than the stock OEM one, and hits parts in the engine bay.

      That's why im here, did you find a fix? His kit came with bolts but mine is studded with 10mm nuts on it. The first time around the paper gasket disintegrated, just put a new one on and it's now a slow drip instead of a huge leak. Any idea what the issue could be??

    I have a mk6 jetta 1.8t se and found my two heater core tubes cracked in three places. my coolant is slowing going lower. my AC and Heater still work but when I drive the coolant leaks and makes small amounts of white smoke from the hood. I can go ahead and just replace the tubes then flush and refill the coolant right?

    My radiator just blew on my mk2 gti 1.8t swap. Has original 16 valve style radiator which is 12.5”x30” or so. Do you have any suggestions for a better radiator with dual fan. Need to order one aSAP. Please help with brand and model if possible or something decent quality with better cooling

    Will this work on a '00 New Beetle 1.8 T with Auto Transmission? I see a comment below that it didn't work on an '03 1.8 T Jetta very well and everything is soooo squished into that Beetle.

    This is the same as the one from USP Motorsports right? I just rebuilt my engine and changed the timing belt and other belts and waterpump and upon start up mine started leaking out the back, I replaced it with an OEM one though. is this better for the longterm?

    Hey man I have a question but is there anyway I can send you a video? Some coolant line broke on my 2004 Gti 1.8t and I’m having a hard time finding it. It’s hard to describe but. I’m replacing the small coolant line that’s at the bottom of the coolant flange. And the hard line that that connects too is also leaking and it’s old. I don’t have the part number or anything

    I had the same issues on my mk3, different car and engine. But same issue and plastic broke the new plastic one as well.

      Yeah I think all the plastic coolant flanges are pretty fragile

    good vid thanx.
    I'm a noob. I've never worked on a car in my life. But I have an 2001 Audi TT quattro 1.8 225HP
    i'm not going to pay Audi to do it, and I'm not going to burn 125/hr rates in CDA because they say, 'oh he owns an Audi so let's jack his labour costs'
    especially because it's an 2001 Audi TT.
    So do you have a video which walks through the removal and installation of the flange?
    i should pick one up immediately, so for now, plastic is what will happen, but of course, i am ordering a complete aluminum kit, because I don't want to have to do this again, and replacing seals is not replacing an entire unit.

    I have a 1.8t with a blown head gasket causing it to overheat. K@W permanent metallic block sealer was recommended, do you agree? And if so is removing the thermostat necessary?

      Dude do not waste the time that metal or paper head gasket is sandwiched between the head and the block no amount of magical anything will replace it, something poured in your engine will temporarily clog everything so in the end you’ll still replace that head gasket be it today or next week. With a good torque wrench, the special VW tool for head gasket bolts, a standard 12 point toolset with a long breaker bar, a new timing belt and water pump while you are in there, a proper head gasket kit and roughly 8 - 10 hours if you go really slow with no mechanical aptitude. Instructions are all over the internet. I did mine 6 weeks ago with printed instructions from online toke a few days to clean up the head and block before putting everything back together but actually it was pretty easy. Btw set all the timing marks TDC , just take your time learn your own motor or be prepared to write a fat check.

      Haven’t had to do one in a while. Those pumps weren’t too common fail. They did leak from time to time

    Charles; my 1.8T MK4 Ibiza FR idles quite high at 1200rpm when I start the engine and drops to about 800rpm after about 30 seconds. I've always waited for that rev drop before I start driving, but I was wondering why it happens. Is it something to do with oil reaching the head?

    How long should you idle your turbo motor after a cold start and before shutdown to avoid damage due to loss of lubrication? Is this time different for diesels?

      20 seconds cold start. Just to get oil in the head.. and if you push your turbo car then few mins idle (5 mins ) or 3 kilometers ride under 2000 rpm.

      +busilica123 And yeah change your oil every maximum 15000km for TDI Pumpe Duse ( Take high quality oil )... Mine got 370 000km with regular and quality maintance (/TURBO IS STILL FIRST ONE )

      +Aaron Yauger get a boost gauge (obd2 one should work.. Or a good old mechanical one).. Bad turbo will not show as much boost but low boost could also mean leak elsewhere not necessarily a bad turbo. Or you can take off some hoses and check for play in the turbo.

    The 4way flange that goes on the engine side is leaking and it costs 5eur (aftermarket) and 15eur from Audi. It has held for 19 years so replacing it with OEM, dont trust this paper gasket in the slightest.

    I have a Passat b5.5 AWM 1.8T. I have yet to see a coolant leak do you think I should possibly consider this as an upgrade in the future for my engine?.

    What if you don’t put the paper gasket on the flange will that cause problems ? I bought this set but I’m still overheating . The paper gasket ripped so I didn’t use it and steam is coming from that area but i what’s going on

      Not sure on the Audi side. There are some metal pumps for VWs. But I haven’t heard the best results from them

      For right now, it's only 1.8t. But I am sure that it could be made too.

    I replaced my coolant flange just two days ago, second time in 2 years. To be honest, the 2 screw design on a fitting like that is a flawed design. People always over torque the fitting to get it to seal deforming the plastic resulting in a crack. I installed my new one with some Dirko HT Red and just nipped the screws tight. No leaks.
    The alloy ones do look the part though ;)

    There are $35 kits on eBay that look on par.

      They may be on par. Maybe not. Sadly you only find out they arent when they fail.

      HumbleMechanic one thing I noticed was a lot of excess aluminum from the molds that needed to be removed on eBay flanges. Probably not nearly as polished.

    Does anyone make one of these for a 2003 1.8 beetle turbo S engine code AWP? My car makes 320hp after a complete APR upgrade and I want better parts.

    what does he mean by " an engine that was on the stand"? Would i need to be able to pull out the entire engine for this repair. the shop is trying to charge me $1800.00 for this repair.

      The engine he showed (the rusty one) is removed from the vehicle... it's on a stand.
      Engine does not have to be removed.
      What year model is yours? Sounds way too much for that job.

      That amount makes sense, sadly. I did the water pump on my MK4 Ibiza FR 1.8T and it's not a quick job. It is fun though.

      hey, yeah it's got about 117000 miles on it a GLS turbo manual, almost looks like a 1/8th" aluminum skid plate that doesn't look factory under the front clip(just wondering if that was factory or not), it drives good but the body is pretty rough and the interior is about par with the body, it has some sort of buzz from an electrical motor(i think) after it's been turned off under the alternator/ac compressor area(is that the water pump or something?). i'm just wondering what to look for and such besides the normal universal things? i wasn't able to get it up on a lift but from what i saw the undercarriage looks alright besides the front bumper skirt is torn off probably from the alaskan winter driving with such a low car. one owner. oil & coolant looked good. i've got photos if you got someplace i could send them.
