They sounded great. Saw them in 1987 on the Door to Door tour. They didn't move around much and didn't talk to the audience which I thought was odd at the time but apparently that's how they were.

@@JTRocks4Ever Yeah, I saw them in Denver on the Heartbeat City tour (1984) and it was the same. The music was really, really good - just awesome -- but talking to the crowd was just something they weren't interested in doing. I thing Ric said 3 things all show -- "Hello" and "Goodbye" plus a solitary "Great crowd" halfway through.

They broke the mold when they made that amazing man. I was reading a bunch of these comments and I want to thank everyone who keeps our beautiful Benjamin and his legacy alive. Such an incredible Band! Ben and Rick will be missed but definitely left such a legacy. They were my Beatles. They were my growing memories. They captured and showed how to do it. With using piano/organ/synthesizer, guitar, drums, horns, base. Hmm.. I see it now with some jam bands. Y’all check out Goose( out of Connecticut )music isn’t dead. There just not on mainstream. And I don’t want them to be. It’s already tuff enough to get tics. But they have a great vocal sharing like Ric and Ben. This is GOLD!!!!

I was born in the 90s so the Cars were way before my time, but one reason I admire them so much is how incredibly talented each member is. Ric and Ben are both great singers and own each song they sing. Those basslines Ben is playing are not simply root notes on the kick, he’s flying around the neck. Greg’s work on the keys is really the heart and soul of their overall sound. Elliot Easton’s guitar is the balls of the Cars. Precise, in your face, raw rock ‘n roll Les Paul tone.

When you think of it, the Cars came out the same year that Van Halen did, and Elliot would have gotten a lot more recognition and credit if Eddie Van Halen hadn't been as brilliant as he was. Factor in other dominant guitarists and huge bands of the late 70s, like Alex Lifeson and Neal Schon (Rush and Journey). There was just such an overload of talent and good music in that era.

Elliot Easton is so effin cool because of how much of himself he gives his performance.
When the lead breaks come for Bye Bye Love he confronts the audience with a cocky rock n roll bravado that is irresistible, stepping out front, holding up his guitar as he plays his spirited licks asking the audience 'What do you think of that? Is that good enough for ya? Is it enough for your teenage love?' There's a certain machismo about him that makes you smile and excites you. Its deeply satisfying to watch because he delivers the goods. He's the real deal.
And when you see him reach down with lighting speed to turn up or down a tone or volume knob in the space of a millisecond you see how attuned to the music he is. He gives himself to it. And that's all any of us wants to see: authenticity. Someone playing it how they feel it. Long live Elliot Easton.

The thing that makes Benjamin fantastic & often underrated as just a pretty boy with good vocals is his ability to sing lead vocals brilliantly and play bass. I've read & friends in bands have told me that it is extremely challenging to do both because the bassist has to listen for the drum kicks & bassline of the drums which often has it's own type of melody. He seems to have no issue with it ...does it as easily as chewing gum & to top it off he can play lead guitar, keyboards, drums as well. Electric Angel Rock and Roller...

I played it everyday on my way from gunnison colorado, driving up to ski Crested Butte, all day long with a season ski pass, and I'd work at the three thieves steak house in crested butte every night. I thought I would wear that tape out, but it just kept on going. Then candy-o came out and that marked a whole new era in my life. But both albums were all time classics, because it was like both albums were perfectly engineered to listen to all the way through. And each song fed into the next as one whole masterpiece. Two of the greatest albums of all time, hands down, second to almost none.

There's no debate that it was a threat, but was it obvious or subtle? It's evident Benjamin channeled his anger into his vocals for the rest of the song. Yes, well said. Orr handled that so well...loved his side glance at Ric. Dude is so chill. How in the world can you throw a beer at Handsome Ben?! @@ellab8897

So cool! Interesting this was the same year the Van Halen had their debut album, noticed the finger tapping on the guitar solo 👍

Wow. The crowd. How ignorance raised it's head at this place. I mean, these terrific humble guys really were treated like such shit by the"so-called" proper people. Being the Fine guys Ric, Ben, Greg, David and Elliot were and are ....any less of men would have exited that stage and rightly so. Who needs that kind of crap???? Being the true American gentlemen that they were and are....They continued to play, and play extremely well.....Despite the ill behaved unappreciative pompous English men /women. What a performance. Hats off to Ric ,Ben, Greg,, David, Elliott . Now more than ever after seeing the behavior of the Britt"s....Happy 4th of July!

In 1980, i used to sit on the steps of our apartment complex in Mesa, Arizona and jam out to the Cars on a cassette player I had, that was fairly loud and I used to listen to all their albums', damn''' I never realized how much I liked them back then and still do today, very phenomenal''''''''''

Never did see these guys in concert. This provides an opportunity to see what I missed. Great stuff! That whole first album (and second) were amazing. Still listen to them all the time. Thanks for the upload!

One of the greatest live bands ever to tour. They're better live and sound like the record. And nobody sounds like them. Great musicians all around, the best of the bunch in their era.😊

Such a charismatic band......from a time when beards, shortpants , sneakers and baseball caps weren't yet the norm.
Ben Or was a fascinating performer ; they all were, but he was very special. Ironic that during his last year on this planet he regained his cool looks.

Ben Orr was just great! What a voice. Don't miss his solo album, The Lace. Elliot Easton plays on it, too. So that is 2/5 of The Cars right there.

I’m remembering now being in High School. My boyfriend’s best friend used to walk me home from school (we lived just a couple blocks away from each other). One day, he asked if I knew The Cars band and the song ‘My Best Friend’s Girl’ then proceeded to tell me that the song was about me and that he’d had a crush on me the whole year. I was flattered but was hopelessly devoted to my boyfriend, so I told him to go home and promised not to tell my boyfriend what he said... and I never did. Lol Ah memories. We are still friends to this day, though he finally found his own girl to marry and have kids with and, in retrospect, he’d have probably been a much better boyfriend. Hindsight really is 20/20. Lol
I’m still so in love with The Cars and Ben Orr! RIP Benjamin Orr and Ric Ocasek. The world is at a loss without you guys. Thank you for sharing this gem! I still listen to The Cars in my car often.
