Yakuza is the one of the few series from SEGA's post console era that has that distinct SEGA vibe, from things like the Music to UI to the various minigames and side activities you do in between the story it feels like something that you would play on one of SEGA's consoles like the Dreamcast back in the 1990's. Seriously this is one of the better things SEGA makes these days especially when you considered that the only other franchise, they have outside of Yakuza is Sonic which while he SEGA's main mascot he has mostly been a laughingstock for the past couple of years whereas the Yakuza series has been held in high regard over the past couple of years to the point where SEGA puts Kiryu and Majima in more Mainstream media compared to Sonic.
Yakuza is a life changing experience that everyone should try at least once, and Kiryu is easily one of my favorite characters ever. For most of my life, I tried to do what everyone expected of me HOPING it would lead me to figuring out the "optimal" path, but just like kiryu you learn that people will interalize the hells they faced and project onto others. What I loved about kiryu is he always tried to see people who did him dirty as a person with a dream and goal FIRST. Powered through them without an ounce of burnout or boredom (aside from that one Saejima segment in Y5). Fantastic work, I swear this series is extremely underrated, and I’m still wishing for Kiwami 3. The depth and breadth this series span is truly under appreciated
After playing the start of Ishin, I could see totally perfect quality upgrades from the older games to the Unreal Engine, I’m really shocked at how close to Y0 gameplay it manages to replicate, I could totally see future Kiwami titles on this
Yakuz 0 and like a dragon are my favorites because kiryu is my hero, he didn't try to be anyone but himself. Ichiban could have easily be an asshole and hypocrite, yet all he did was try his best for himself and others. I used to think if i don't figure out my life by my current age 25, I "failed" but seeing ichiban and kiryu do their thing is really inspiring.
You know that a game franchise is great when after playing through more than 7+ games at are literary the same you are still so excited for the next entry.
I was at a gaming burnout. All my friends weren’t on as much and apex legends ,our game of choice, was also losing my interest. Then I stumble across yakuza 0 because it was free on game pass thinking it would be cool. I’ve been addicted to the series since
I love how sub counts don't mean quality anymore. Really everyone is so talented and makes very enjoyable videos. I am glad to have laid my eyes on this cause it's right up my alley. Can't wait to see you grow as a content creator.
This may have been the best video I have seen on youtube in a long time, just the way how you executed this video is perfect, the editing the music even down to the way you explain the characters and story really just has me interested in the whole franchise, its surprising to see a content creator as passionate and interested as @pumpo really makes me look forward to your future uploads, keep up this great content. 11/10 video i love this.
There are so many things this series does exceptionally well. One of the things I like the most is the switch between serious crime drama and crazy side content. Whenever I feel like I need a break from the seriousness of the main story I can do side content. And whenever I feel like I need a break from the craziness of the side content, I can continue with the main story. The pacing is just great. Other games throw too much side content at you to the point where you just get fed up of it. But in Yakuza the proportion of side content to main story content feels perfect to me. Plus the side content is actually fun and not some copy and paste content like "kill 3 rats" or "collect 900 korok seeds".
Top 10 greatest game series if not too 5. We need an akiyama spinoff especially if judgment is done. Could even have some investigation stuff in there Akiyama did his fair share of snooping around.
Broooooo I'm so in love with this game. I'm only just finishing my first playthrough of yakuza 0 and it got me hooked. The gameplay, the vivid world, the funny npc characters and substories you encounter, the references to Japan culture and a great persiflage at that, all combined in a humoristic package. I found myself laughing genuinely more than once or twice when failing a telephone club game or seeing what mr libido is up to. The balance between a dark and gritty yakuza story and the lightheartedness of all the things you do between missions is a golden combo that just makes you return for more. I'm already over 80h in yakuza 0, and since this universe just revealed itself to me, I'll have plenty of catching up to do after I finish this one. I might not go straight into kiwami, but rather play judgment instead, just to change things up. But it's a great feeling having so many games to dive into from 0 to 6. Definitely a game that takes some grinding, but there's always a fun hook right around the corner. Side note, I would love to have been in this developing team, because their humor is on point and I can imagine them having fun making up characters like Miracle Johnson etc, or the shooreh peepee sect. I feel like the goofy atmosphere in the dev team found its way into the game, as the product of capturing their souls into it.
This video might just be what I need to convince my pals to finally give the series a proper shot! On a real note, this is some fantastic work. Good job, dude! ❤👍
Litterly Yakuza games and then judgment and inshi are seriously the best fuckin stories of any games ever made they have such well written dialogue and litterly every game has Soo many twists that you actually don't see comming until like RIGHT before it happens I fell in love with this series the moment I played it I can't wait for the future of games they give us
Yakuza 0 was my first introduction to the Yakuza games and I've been obsessed with the games since. I love how instead of being a huge, empty "open world" game it is a contained area that's completely packed with detail and things to do. The story is so incredible, I rarely cry at fictional things but it had me nearly sobbing at some points. The characters are amazing, obviously, and Kiryu is easily my favorite character from any sort of media since discovering him. He just literally radiates coolness and masculinity, in the best way I've ever seen . And the contrast of the "goofy silly minigame substory" side vs the "serious criminal jp mafia game with heartbreaking cutscenes" side is something I cannot get enough of. Seeing Kiryu's (and Majima's) more intimate side when running around and simply doing anything, learning about them, their past, seeing how they would act in different situations is so well done, and makes you feel for them that much more when they experience something drastic in the story, and I don't think another game could ever replicate how this game makes me feel. Of course, the map design is so rich and vibrant, the music, the voice acting, the atmosphere is just perfect and so well done. My only complaint is how much you have to gamble or grind to 100% the games but that's literally it. (If I could talk about this game all day I probably would lmao) I love the other Yakuza games as well, but Yakuza 0 will always have a special place in my heart.
They can literally turn this gaming series into a Netflix series or a movie series if they really wanted to. Some of the best storytelling in a video game I’ve ever seen!
I loved this video I find it hard to find Yakuza videos that don’t just drop spoilers for the entire franchise with no warning, I truly felt safe watching this in contrast though lol.
I had a hard time getting into Yakuza 0 because of the way the narrative was delivered (especially silent dialogs). I'm absolutely glad I got into it. I literally devoured the whole series (from Y0 to Y7) in the span of a few month, not playing anything else until I finished. I'm so excited for Like a Dragon Ishin and what's in store, with Gaiden and Lad8... Speaking of 0, I'm sad we never got to see Kuze ever again. He was by far my favorite character of the whole game. And by the way, it's Kiryu Kazuma, not Kazama.
Another 10/10 king on another fabulous game, I didn't know much about the yakuza franchise till about a year ago but like after I found it I realized just how much of a gem it is.
I try and I try and I try and yet I cannot explain in words why this series is the greatest game series of all time (and it’s not even close) in my eyes. There’s nothing else like it. It’s a crime drama, yet it’s unlike any other. It’s an action series, yet it’s unlike any other. It’s story heavy, yet it’s unlike any other. It takes a bunch of standard every day concepts and just adds so much depth and charm to them. It takes a bunch of things that should never work together and manages to make it not only work but excel. The story, the writing, the characters, the graphics, the cities, the combat, the drama, the action, the nonsense, the hilarity, the morals, the criminal underworld, the slices of life, the humbleness, etc, I could go on and on…it’s just portrayed so perfectly and beautifully. I know how to describe it in words now… Imperfectly perfect.
this series has taught me to not give a shit about what anyone thinks of me and always be true to myself, even if i do care i will act like i dont and eventually it will become another thing i won't care about.
great video. yakuza is one of the most chaotic and random game series but it always retains a serious attitude. It's an enigma but hell, if it keeps doing what its doing, i dont want to solve that enigma.
I think the memes played a huge role, yes, memes, i for once played yakuza 1 on ps2 as a kid and finish only to never touch it again for some reason i was always avoiding it, it's thanks to that baka mitai meme that was like "I've seen this gane before" and it kicked in lol
DAMN. That ending gave me goosebumps. Such a great video, man. 🔥🔥🔥 I only played Y0 YK1 and I'm currently playing Yakuza K2 and I'm loving every freaking minute of this franchise. Also the fandom is just so wonderful ❤️
I got into yakuza right before dame dame meme because of kiryu coco. I have played and bought every game even though almost all are on game pass. By far the best gaming franchise currently.
This series is genuinely the best I’ve ever played in my life. I played yakuza 0 to 6 in one month, then played 7 for the plat trophy. Now im trying to 100% all games (except 3 and 5 cuz they take too long)
I think the thing that makes this series so beautiful and wonderful is the wackiness. From the karaoke to the substories it just it’s awesome. This series doesn’t take itself seriously. It isn’t afraid to be completely ridiculous and nonsensical even in its main story. To put it simply, ot’s not afraid to be a game. Maybe it’s because it is a soap opera, but I have never seen these kinds of personalities before either. And that’s just it, they give their characters so much personality. They let their characters feel real by giving them so much emotion. I love that. The world, the characters, the story…it just all feels so alive and action packed and familiar and intense. Each game is it’s own high octane, intense, emotional, soap opera like, thrilling, mysterious, hilarious, nonsensical, stupid, chaotic, amazing, unique, odd, heavily exaggerated crime drama. From the mini games, to the characters, to the substories, to the side stories, to the stores, to the clubs, to the mechanics, to the combat…it’s all so heavily exaggerated, strange, wacky, and not something you’d normally see in a game. There is so much immersion breaking shit but they made it to where immersion breaking is good rather than bad. It’s one of those “You can’t make this shit up” kind of things. No one would believe you if you told them most of the stuff you’ve seen or done in these games. They’d say that’s stupid, or crazy, or just straight up weird as hell. But it’s all real. And that’s the amazing thing about it. The exaggerated dramatics of fights. Kiryu befriending a chicken and having that chicken work at his real estate business. It’s like you are sick and had a fever dream but you also took psychedelic drugs and the strongest 100% proof alcohol on the planet before getting poisoned by the deadliest thing on the planet and having hallucinations form lack of water before hand. So the Yakuza series is basically a psychedelic, hallucinogenic, drunken, mentally poisoned fever dream.
I really like how there's not a lit of spoilers only a fee i only played yakuza 0 and kiwami 1 sofar ibplan on playing the other games too this video is pretty good and it's nice thank you for not spoiling to mutch
What i love about yakuza series feels like a saga, it touches on things like loyalty, betrayal and touches on stuff like the lost decade of Japan in the 1980s, kiryu is one of the best characters
Last year i was really having a rough time and by then i purchased yakuza 0 out of curiosity and it made me feel so much better. It was ages ago when a game was able to make me so invested in its story.
I’m 45, and can confidently say that this franchise has the best character development consistency in the whole industry. It’s these kind of experiences where you don’t want it to become a distant memory after finishing it
FYI: The reason that Kiwami 2 had no style switching because of the use of dragon engine. They more or less copy and pasted his move set from Yakuza 6. The engine was still brand new at that point and they hadn't created multiple styles for it. Dragon Engine wouldn't get a style switch combat system til Judgment.

in kiwami 1, if you drink the pill juice, you can actually go back to the bar and beat them up
Can we appreciate how canonically Kiryu beat up 2 tigers by hand?
I bought Yakuza 0 after baka mitai was trending in 2020 I believe. Now I own every main story game. Safe to say I really enjoyed it. Peak gaming
I just finished the video and I'm surprised that this video doesn't have more views, it's a love letter to a franchise that defined my last couple of years, and man, the editing it's just gorgeous, you just earned a new subscriber, kudos to you for such an amazing work, I'll be here cheering for you :)
First few hours of Yakuza 0: "Hehe, funny dame dame guy."
Last few hours of Yakuza 6: "Why are we still here.....just to suffer?"
Fantastic work, I swear this series is extremely underrated, and I’m still wishing for Kiwami 3. The depth and breadth this series span is truly under appreciated
If they made a kiwami 3 I would actually be so excited. I really loved the story of that game and would love to see it on the dragon engine.
You’re gonna have to settle for Kenzan Kiwami
After playing the start of Ishin, I could see totally perfect quality upgrades from the older games to the Unreal Engine, I’m really shocked at how close to Y0 gameplay it manages to replicate, I could totally see future Kiwami titles on this
@@Underestimated37 yeah! i wonder if in the distant future, k3 is going to use unreal 4...
watching this while playing Ishin, a game I never thought I'd be able to play in English
Can't wait to see you grow as a content creator.
thanks for translating all my emotions for this amazing franchise into a video
2:16 ah yes, a fellow speed star fan, great vid btw
Every akiyama theme slaps, thanks man
This may have been the best video I have seen on youtube in a long time, just the way how you executed this video is perfect, the editing the music even down to the way you explain the characters and story really just has me interested in the whole franchise, its surprising to see a content creator as passionate and interested as @pumpo really makes me look forward to your future uploads, keep up this great content. 11/10 video i love this.
this comment just made my night, thank you man it means alot to me.
YO, whoever made that pixel art Majima that was on screen during the Kiwami 2 combat section, nice job. That looks awesome!
Nice! I've also started Judgement after I finished 0 a couple of days ago.
was on this pumpo stuff og. glad to see you growing king
A fellow kiwami 2 enjoyer? Let's fucking goooo
On top of everything you said, the series has an amazing rogue’s gallery and a soundtrack that’s insanely good.
Can we just agree dod style in zero has the hardest theme ever?
0 cap💯💯💯
This video might just be what I need to convince my pals to finally give the series a proper shot!
On a real note, this is some fantastic work. Good job, dude! ❤👍
Ending the video with a music video of recieve you goes hard
Litterly Yakuza games and then judgment and inshi are seriously the best fuckin stories of any games ever made they have such well written dialogue and litterly every game has Soo many twists that you actually don't see comming until like RIGHT before it happens I fell in love with this series the moment I played it I can't wait for the future of games they give us
You put into words exactly how much i love this game HOLYYY im so glad I found this account I love this series so much
I also love the fact the actual, real world Yakuza, approved of this game series... Hell, even praising it for it's accuracy.
Yakuza 3 underrated imo
Really digging the Yakuza-wave/dnb/jungle soundtrack you use. So vibey
I loved kuze's appearance and entire character in 0, he was definitely the best antagonist for me.
Well he’s back in Ishin Kiwami (even tho it’s an alternate version of him).
Yakuza 6 is peak when it comes to voiced dialogue
Kuze is the best
wtf why do you only have 600 subs??? you are goated man
Another 10/10 king on another fabulous game, I didn't know much about the yakuza franchise till about a year ago but like after I found it I realized just how much of a gem it is.
I know how to describe it in words now…
Imperfectly perfect.
Absolutely adore this series. Currently grinding for true final millennium tower or yk7
amazing franchise
this series has taught me to not give a shit about what anyone thinks of me and always be true to myself, even if i do care i will act like i dont and eventually it will become another thing i won't care about.
great video. yakuza is one of the most chaotic and random game series but it always retains a serious attitude. It's an enigma but hell, if it keeps doing what its doing, i dont want to solve that enigma.
Honestly the memes did something helpful for once letting me find this beautiful gem franchise
I think the memes played a huge role, yes, memes, i for once played yakuza 1 on ps2 as a kid and finish only to never touch it again for some reason i was always avoiding it, it's thanks to that baka mitai meme that was like "I've seen this gane before" and it kicked in lol
I love the game series so much, even with its ups and downs
DAMN. That ending gave me goosebumps. Such a great video, man. 🔥🔥🔥
I only played Y0 YK1 and I'm currently playing Yakuza K2 and I'm loving every freaking minute of this franchise.
Now im trying to 100% all games (except 3 and 5 cuz they take too long)
3:44 that transition didn't have to go that hard 🐐🐐
Amazing edit dude - it realy shows how much you like the series and really captures its spirit c:
So the Yakuza series is basically a psychedelic, hallucinogenic, drunken, mentally poisoned fever dream.
honestly an extremely well-edited video, subscribed
This is my favorite game series , it has so much soul to it
this video is beautiful
Man, this video is so well made! Why do you got only 700 subs?
I really like how there's not a lit of spoilers only a fee i only played yakuza 0 and kiwami 1 sofar ibplan on playing the other games too this video is pretty good and it's nice thank you for not spoiling to mutch
But the fans are not quite beautiful when they only played Yakuza 0 and thought they know everything about the franchise.
Beat Yakuza 0 recently, cannot wait to finish the rest and catch up with y’all! Literally took me year to finish 😭
Great video. I've been playing 8,0, Kiwami, and now Kiwami 2. I'm so excited to see more of this franchise
25:46 this f*cking still makes me smile after being crying a lot with Makoto's scene...
What i love about yakuza series feels like a saga, it touches on things like loyalty, betrayal and touches on stuff like the lost decade of Japan in the 1980s, kiryu is one of the best characters
Great content, thank you! Was surprised that you have under 100k subs. Hope you'll get big soon!
"Except blockuza 3"
Press circle.
Nice work kyodai, hope more people will watch it !
you need more subs, this is some of the highest quality content I've seen in months
Absolute banger
Me when niche youtube creator makes video essay
real
Last year i was really having a rough time and by then i purchased yakuza 0 out of curiosity and it made me feel so much better. It was ages ago when a game was able to make me so invested in its story.
I just discovered this channel and I'm already glad I came across it!
Tbh great transitions between sections and great review of the series!
It's simple... This is an awesome franchise and I think everyone should give a try.
W Video! Yakuza's the coolest series ever and I loved when the music synced with the edits!🗣️
Great video man good job. Definitely subscribing and yes yakuza is one of a kind definitely my favourite franchise of all time.
Thank you so much man, it’s definitely up there for me too. Kiwami 2 and yakuza 0 are highlights of the series
Great video, will look forward more like this from u my man
appreciated bro
Yakuza 6 fishing is so cool, because it gives a dynamic intro to a shark.
I’m 45, and can confidently say that this franchise has the best character development consistency in the whole industry. It’s these kind of experiences where you don’t want it to become a distant memory after finishing it
Criminally underrated channel!
This filled my soul with light and joy.
I FUCKING LOVE YAKUZA
ME TOOOOO
3:38 It's more Hokuto no ken's 100 cracked fist
FYI: The reason that Kiwami 2 had no style switching because of the use of dragon engine. They more or less copy and pasted his move set from Yakuza 6. The engine was still brand new at that point and they hadn't created multiple styles for it. Dragon Engine wouldn't get a style switch combat system til Judgment.
Great video man, this needs wayyy more traction
COVID got me into this series and I’ve gone through it all even platinuming zero
I always like creator share their yakuza experience
this video is so awesome, great work!
