I love this! I had to learn this lesson the hard way last year.
I am 29 with 4 kids. Last year I worked two part time jobs, was doing online school and I signed up with a personal training. I was so scattered, I was doing a poor job in every aspect in my life. I also gained weight. I got in a car accident and cause a back injuring, so I had to quite working. Now I focus on my kids more and I am going to like my husband work this year so I can finish my school and lose the weight.

For an example let’s say a 25-year-old had chronic illness and let’s say we take teaspoons away for showering and paying the bills. then it’s one spoon for medication and four spoons for house cleaning etc. I’m saying this because this was based around helping people with chronic illnesses because if you take a 25 year-old who does not have any health problems should have enough energy where they have lots of spoons, even though they may have kids and her husband, etc. I’m not saying that they Never run out of energy because they probably do but I just wanted to emphasise that this is the case for people with chronic illness and that’s why it was developed for.

Spoon Theory is a metaphor first coined by Christine Miserandino to illustrate the energy limitations that can result from living with a chronic illness. You should not misappropriate it for other contexts.

I understand where you are coming from but, as someone who has struggled with chronic illness for over 15 years, I disagree that it has been misappropriated here. By showing spoon theory in use from an able-bodied viewpoint I think it helps healthy people understand the issues less able people face. If they can associate "2 spoons" with a full-time work week, in terms of energy and mental load, then it helps them relate to me when I am having a flare up. Getting out of bed and making sure I eat at least once a day can easily take 2 spoons, some weeks. The ideal behind the theory is to foster understanding. It seems to me that we won't do that if we say able-bodied people can't apply spoon theory to their lives 🤷‍♂️

I think spoon method applies to everyone. It's more relevant and or helpfully for people people that deal with health conditions, but either way still applies to all.

It’s for everyone. 🤫 all she was saying it her illness makes things take more time/energy than they do for someone without said illness. Kids also
Make tasks take more time energy and money so the way he is using it here is fine.
